Ever boycott a show or a network (and for how long)?

Moonlight_l After reading the comments on my post mourning CBS' cancellation of Moonlight (pictured), in which some viewers vow to boycott the network, and those on Abby West's Bones season finale preview and postmortem, in which a handful of fans threaten to abandon the Fox drama after its rushed resolution to the Gormogon case, I'm wondering how often people actually follow through on such promises.

So, tell me: Have you ever boycotted an entire network? Or gone cold turkey on a show because you felt it did you wrong? And how long did you hold out? I'm fascinated.

P.S. While I'm the "obsessed colleague" who wouldn't stop complaining to Abby about Booth's beer helmet — (a) he had a tub caddy that could've held his cans and (b) I know he's a "dude," but he still shops at Spencer's? — I'll be back.

P.P.S. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moonlight is still being shopped to cable networks, including TNT. Hmmm. While TNT has Angel repeats in the morning, I'm not sure I see vamps fitting into its primetime lineup. Angel alums on the other hand, yes: I went to the Turner upfronts last week, and saw that J. August Richards (Gunn) has a role in Steven Bochco's upcoming TNT legal drama, Raising the Bar, while Christian Kane (Lindsey) will be seen opposite Timothy Hutton in the net's Leverage. Of course, TNT already has a double dose of Boreanaz, with Tuesday night Bones repeats.

I boycotted NBC (and still am) when they cancelled Las Vegas. Why start watching another NBC series when they ended that one the way they did? Also, I'm about to give up on CBS. Canceling Moonlight, and killing off hottie husbands on series like Close to Home and Ghost Whisperer. I watch TV to get my mind off my stressful life. Not to be disappointed by my favorite network TV shows.

latingirl Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 11:51 PM EST

My brother is in the movie buisness, and was working on moonlight. He says that the show was canceled because the funds for its production were mismanaged.

Ron Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 09:41 PM EST

I would like to boycott all (cbs-nbc-abc) for their lousy reporting on the campaign..

Pat Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 12:24 PM EST

They really did it this time. I'm still hoping they'll bring Moonlight back to replace some of the shows they've cancelled. IT WAS THE GREATEST SHOW ON THE AIR. How stupid are these stations for cancelling good shows and keeping rotten ones. You need to listen to the viewers more often or no one will be watching your channel.

Mel Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 01:19 PM EST

How stupid is CBS? They cancel a PCA winner for best new drama, put garbage in it's place, and then act all surprised when it does badly. After 4 episodes they pulled The Ex-List. Can't say I'm shocked. Honestly Nina, did you really think that through? I don't think you did.

Tanialee Bowman Wed, Nov 5, 2008 at 02:16 PM EST

How does one boycott a show?
I am disgusted that my favorite daytime soap opera, "All My Children"
on ABC tv network has let down all guards. For a daytime show where there may be small children (who may not be taking their noon time nap) it is appalling that AMC lets out with profanity, lesbianism love scenes (all kinds of love scenes should not be shown in daytime shows), and advocates drinking. It seems that every scene in Pine Valley shows someone having a drink.
It is a shame because I have had to turn off my favorite show, one that I've watched from its' onset in the early 1970's. I want to boycott ABC but don't know how to do it. At least until they change what they show in the daytime.

Joy Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 10:10 PM EST

I've said all I could on why I was so upset, crushed and disappointed CBS canceled Moonlight - a really good show. Although I was hurt no one was listening to the millions of fans of the show, I still watch certain shows on that network but ... still refuse to watch its replacement or even give it a chance. From the previews that overloaded the network viewing of the replacement show, I could see it couldn't even begin to come up to the standards of Moonlight. What a waste of talent and great new stories they could have created to continue on with the Mick & Beth saga.

eydie Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 03:40 PM EST

i've been boycotting kentucky fried chicken since 1978 (long story.) i haven't watched american idol since constantine got booted. once i'm through with something, i'm through. i will forever boycott any show appearing in "moonlight's" time slot. cbs and nina tassler are idiots. moonlight was like crack for me and i am ANGRY that it was cancelled especially for dreck like the ex-list.

lauren Sat, Aug 9, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST

I've never boycotted a tv station. But if I were to boycott a channel it would be Fox. If it wasn't for 24, I'd never watch Fox.

Ken Wood Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

This is the first I've heard that CBS has definitely canceled Moonlight. It has been the only show of theirs we watch After winning an popularity award already. If they don't bring it back, that's it No more CBS and their advertisers for us.

air-max Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 02:07 PM EST

I Started boycott network since FOX and their stupid cancellations (Fastlane, Dark Angel, Tru Calling, Firefly). but i'm really sad after the cancellation of the amazing creation of Shaun Cassidy, "Invasion" by ABC. They sucks !!!
Cancelling "Invasion", "Jericho" and "Moonlight' is a stupid decision, a big mistake. This show is so incredible, these shows (especially for my fan favorite "invasion") are so incredible and awesmome.

Please reconsider and help us to ressurect them.

kera Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 12:00 PM EST

I haven't watched FOX since the year they cancelled Dark Angel.
it's really easy to ignore the network the shows on it seem like they'd be bad anyways.
now I have one more network to add to my ignore list, how could they cancel Moonlight!

PS_Too many sticks in the woods for me to ever put my marshmallow on CBS again!!!

moonlightr1 Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 06:23 PM EST

Will I boycott? Yes!!! Haven't watched CBS since the final episode and don't plan on it unless they bring Moonlight back. I have told everyone in my house, DO NOT turn any tv on CBS, PERIOD!!! I can't believe that they actually cancelled the Peoples Choice Award winner for best new drama. Can you imagine how upset over 8 million people are? Go to one of the rallies scheduled all over the US and in other countries, you will see first hand.

KW Mon, Jun 9, 2008 at 02:32 PM EST

Have I ever boycotted before? Yes - I did a complete boycott of NBC from 1998 to 2005 (7 years plus or minus a few months). It started because of a cancelled show, but likely would have finished sooner except someone close to me got screwed by The Mother Ship (a.k.a. GE).

The cancellation of Moonlight is enough to make me boycott CBS for the forseeable future. I've already informed them via snail mail that they've lost one of the few 18-39 female viewers they still had. I previously watched CSI, CSI:NY, NCIS, and Without a Trace in addition to Moonlight, but frankly, I won't really miss any of them other than Moonlight. Here's hoping SciFi (or one of the other nets) picks up the show (fingers crossed).

Carmen Sat, Jun 7, 2008 at 07:19 PM EST

I am still in shock that CBS canceled Monnlight. I am one of the millions who voted for the show as the PCA. It counts for nothing to CBS and therefore Nina and friends can watch their Friday night lineup go down in flames. Orgies and silly women who must have a man and go to a card reader to find one? This is not what women want! At least not the ones who want to spend Friday night with eye candy, romance, humor and good acting as well as a story that speaks to the condition of "outsiders" in society. I guess that is too much for CBS to handle in one show like Moonlight. Boycott CBS is a no brainer. Just turn TV off on Friday nights!

Tina Fri, Jun 6, 2008 at 10:47 AM EST

I'll have to say that I am a passionate boycotter, not just with T.V. When Wendy's kept changing their menu I stopped eating there- 8 years ago. Haven't been back once. The only other show I was interested in was the original CSI, and let's all be honest they totally jumped the shark this season. Green blood...come on! So I've taken the advice or removing the channel from our T.V. I've also convinced my husband to do the same, my mother, my mother in law and my sister in law. I'm working on my best friend at the moment. You've heard that bad press travels three times faster than positive press. I'm living proof of that fact. I'm spreading the word and convincing others not to watch CBS. Really, whats the point.

Casey Fri, Jun 6, 2008 at 06:44 AM EST

I was an avid fan of Desperate Housewives until the writers had Bree's son Andrew falsely accuse her of molesting him, because he wanted money. I thought about all of the teens out there watching the show, and I was disgusted that the writers would stoop so low. I have never watched the show since.

Now I am going to boycott CBS over the new series about Swingers and Orgies that is coming out on regular channels. Yes I could turn the channel. But once again, I think about the millions of kids and teenagers with televisions in their rooms, and I believe television/music has a tremendous influence on our culture, and society at large. They are taking a very alternative lifestyle and bringing it into the norm. I will boycott CBS all together for this lapse in judgment.

Rylanda Thu, Jun 5, 2008 at 09:21 PM EST

CBS who? Of course I'm going to boycott CBS - they make no sound business decisions, don't listen to what the viewers want (we buy the products the advertisers show therefore we pay the wages of those at CBS) - and I will boycott any and all products that were shown on CBS. I will sit back, watch their stock plummet and enjoy watching Nina Tassler lose her job (she seems to think "women" want to watch bimbos on TV or orgies - we want our vampire back)

Kathy Wed, Jun 4, 2008 at 12:46 PM EST

Watched two DVR'ed episodes of MOONLIGHT last night because the networks are not offering anything now. Reruns of "really boring shows". Really would be nice if TV land listened to viewers. MOONLIGHT NEEDS SEASON 2. Give us more shows like this drama/romance/humor.

MLCRAZY Tue, Jun 3, 2008 at 11:28 PM EST

Cancelling Moonlight is the last straw for me. Stupid, spiteful TV execs'decision. Ratings? A lie! Check the stats. More women viewers? Huh?Women of all ages were the linchpin of this show. Another lie! Can you say Alex O? The truth is Nina T. & Co. wanted ML CSI. CSIs will get old soon and what will they have then? CBS is afraid to do different and fresh. Can't handle quality. Ignores fans. Joan of Arcadia and Close to Home, both quality shows! Cancelled, but at least had 2 seasons each. I hesitantly gave in this season and tried ML. Became addicted from the get go because the premise was interesting and had promise.Gone!I'm taking my broken heart and $$ to follow ML wherever it lands. CBS has nothing new to offer. I'm done. Not interested in any of the new shows. If they become popular they will just be cancelled. Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice, shame on me. No 3rd fooling here. Learned my lesson. I'll check out USA and FX. Looks good.

moonlightlover2 Tue, Jun 3, 2008 at 07:44 PM EST

Me too! The only thing about CBS I'm watching is their stock dropping daily. Such ignoramusses! Moonlight will live on!

Robin W. Tue, Jun 3, 2008 at 02:38 PM EST

Count me in. "Moonlight" was the only show that I watched on CBS. The show instantly hooked me from episode one, and the love affair continued. I am still stunned and angry by the show's undeserved cancellation. It is well worth my time, effort, and money to find a new network for this special series, and thousands of other "Moonlight" fans feel the same way. CBS, I hate you.

Kathy C Tue, Jun 3, 2008 at 09:09 AM EST

Add my name to the list of fans who will not be watching CBS. Not news, not sports, not primetime. I am supporting MOONLIGHT and the network and advertisers that put this show back on the air for Season Two.

scoripo18 Tue, Jun 3, 2008 at 02:42 AM EST

I loved Jericho and that wasn't really given much of a chance. It was yanked around and not put on for a full season. I just am not going to get involved in anything new again with CBS. I so looked forward to Friday nights to watch the CBS line up with MOONLIGHT. It was my favorite. Now I'll go back to my cable news channels and the Sci Fi channel.

Lisa Stevens Tue, Jun 3, 2008 at 12:43 AM EST

CBS is no longer allowed ro be viewed in my home because of CBS & Nina Tassler's decision to cancel Moonlight. Moonlight was the only reason I even returned to watching CBS after 12 years. I really resent Nina Tasler's remarks and total lack of respect towards Moonlight Fans. Moonlight is a quality show that appeals to everyone, it has mystery, action, adventure, romance, the vampire lore with a modern day twist and even deals with the human condition. Moonlight has it all and that is what makes it so unique. Moonlight goes to a time and place where we as fans can escape for just a little while. That is quality television at it's best especially in this post 9/11 era where there are news headlines that talk of world disaters and the war in Iraq, reality tv shows, comedies, procedural dramsa like CSI and their spin offs. We need shows quality like Moonlight in order to leave real life behind. Like many other Moonlight Fans I won't give up the fight to bring Moonlight back.

fedrich519 Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 11:01 PM EST

I've just made it a point over the years to try and not watch any freshman shows. I might watch the first couple of eps of a new show if it really peaks my interest, but I always take a step back and keep an eye on the show in the ratings to see if the numbers look promising. If the show gets picked up for a second season, THEN I start watching. Case it point for this season was Journeyman. I watched the first three episodes, decided it looked like a show I could get hooked on, and then took a step back and stopped watching. I kept an eye on the ratings and could see the writing on the wall that it was going to get axed. I wasn't at all disappointed when it got canceled because I didn't get into it. We are kidding ourselves if we think the Networks care one bit about us or care about television as an art form. Its all about making money. In the age of reality programming when they can yank and swap shows for cheap reality, why bother to give a new drama a chance?

Gina Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 09:32 PM EST

I boycotted the CW when they cancelled Veronica Mars, and again after Gilmore Girls got cancelled. I stopped watching CBS when they cancelled Joan of Arcadia. I was told about Moonlight from my sister in law after the first show. So I figured that I would watch it and give them a chance again. Now they have cancelled Moonlight. I am so tired of the shows I like being removed. I don't have cable so I don't have a whole lot of options on my channels, but I just delete them from my programed channels and say BYE BYE. I love watching Moonlight and I just hope that if they get picked up by a cable channel or Direct Tv that they would still put it online so that the truely devoted will still be able to watch. I mean between Alex O'Loughlin's make you melt looks, and Jason Dohring (you can bite me anytime) what woman wouldn't want to watch it. Sophia Myles keeps my husband watching too!!

TalulaKim Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 09:25 PM EST

I watch very few shows on tv (I cant stomach reality stuff) so for me, it was really hard to hear that CBS would get rid of such a gem as Moonlight. This is the first time I have actually done this, but I have actually removed CBS from my TV channels. Its easy, all I did was manually delete the channel from my list on one tv, and put a block on the other tv.

No Moonlight? No CBS. It's that easy for me. Why would I want to watch a channel that would take their People's Choice Award winning show away? Helloo????

Moonglow Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 09:03 PM EST

Hi, I loved Moonlight too, why not join us at WWW.Forums.Moonlightline.com and join
us in our fight for another season !

elljaybee Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 08:50 PM EST

I wouldn't call it a boycott, I am just making a conscious decision not to watch CBS anymore. And since I won't be seeing the commercials on that network, I won't be purchasing their products either. I hope some other network will pick up Moonlight as I would love to see it continue.

Andrea Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 07:03 PM EST

I have boycotted three times in my life:
1. USA when they cancelled "Peacemaker" (It was like a Wild West version of "CSI" with Tom Berenger)
2. Does any remember the FOX series "Jonny Zero" that was on several years ago? I was into the show from day 1 and couldn't wait to see what happened to the characters each week. I was SO MAD when they cancelled it IN MIDSEASON! I did not watch FOX for years (until I became a "Family Guy" fan).
3. I almost boycotted CBS after "Cane" was cancelled AND Sara left "CSI." I have permanently boycotted "CSI Miami" because the plots have become SO ridiculous and far-fetched.

Edgar Hernandez Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 10:20 AM EST

I stopped watching anything on CBS a long time ago. I lost interest on all their shows. Moonlight was the only show in last year's fall lineup that made me interested in going back. Now that it's gone, so am I. I didn't know that The CW was considering picking this up for next fall. If they do, then I'm there!!

Aileen May Nepomuceno Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 10:14 AM EST

I agree with Paula. It will be easy to boycott this network because Moonlight was the only show on CBS that I watched. It was the ONLY thing that brought me back to that station. I had never been interested in anything else they offered. The same goes with about 5-6 of my friends. We loved Moonlight. As a sci-fi fan who attends conventions, I can tell you that a lot of fans love this show and would follow it anywhere. Hopefully The CW will be smart enough to pick it up!

Paula Sat, May 31, 2008 at 09:44 AM EST

This boycott will be too easy as MOONLIGHT was the only show I watched because my 18 yr old daughter turned me on to it.She and I have no reason to even explore any of CBS' fall line up...so I will definately be boycotting. They are truly in for a surprise....they will surely feel the wrath of the MOONLIGHT fans. Can't wait.

Sophie C. Fri, May 30, 2008 at 10:00 PM EST

I am still stunned that CBS cancelled MY Moonlight. My Fridays were specials, I would not go anywhere before 10 pm, would not answer the phone, would not accept any invitations from anyone, even if I taped every single episode... I just had to watch it. Now I feel betrayed and angry. I have NOT watched CBS since I heard the news and I WON'T anymore. They just lost another female viewer. Isn't it ironic? Mrs Tassler cancelled Moonlight because she wanted to attract more female viewers! HELLO!!?? Sorry, you have just lost millions of us.

Ann Fri, May 30, 2008 at 06:06 PM EST

Cancel Moonlight; what is wrong with you, CBS? I thought "CBS cares". Obviously you only care about yourself and not what the viewers want.

caroline2525 Fri, May 30, 2008 at 12:22 PM EST

I have never boycotted a network before, but I am boycotting CBS now. I don't watch a lot of TV and really don't like anything on CBS, but I started watching GW, Numbers and the Monday comedies b/c of Moonlight. I have yet to hear a justifiable reason for canceling Moonlight and I am furious about it. I am also angry at the way CBS treated the fans of Moonlight. One week its canceled, the next its not, and the next it is, do they think its funny? I mean a lot of their fans gave blood to save actual lives for Moonlight and they deserved to be treated better than that. I am in the demographic they love so much and I will be taking my dollars to other networks.

Debbie Camp Fri, May 30, 2008 at 12:04 AM EST

I stay so busy, but always sat down to Moonlight. The decision makers at CBS are foolish indeed. What the Hell were they thinking? I'm 49 and a family breadwinner. Plus I do the shopping for the household. Sponsers beware!

VLM Thu, May 29, 2008 at 09:08 PM EST

CBS needs a smack in the face with the
"Sacred Ass Paddle". Moonlight Fans feel me on this one.

You won't see me watching CBS again. I hadn't watched for years because I was so bored with their staid and uninspired programming. Now I'm not only BORED with CBS, but I'm mad to boot.

I'm the target demographic and I WILL SUPPORT any network and advertiser who is inspired enough to bring smart, niche programming to the boring line-up of CSIs and Reality t.v. That won't be CBS.

drea268 Thu, May 29, 2008 at 08:35 PM EST

I have stopped watching CBS since they cancelled Moonlight....they totally screwed up on this one -- BIG TIME. Moonlight was a goldmine...great actors, storylines, music, sets etc. They cut this show down right when it was really hitting its stride. Plus, the way they did it was cold hearted to the fans. If winning a People's Choice Award and having a huge army of passionate fans does not save a show, then what show is safe? Sorry CBS you messed up one time too many with me.

Sumaire Thu, May 29, 2008 at 08:15 PM EST

Moonlight is a once in a lifetime show. CBS was asleep at the with the cancellation of this one. But at least they are consistent. They did the same thing with Forever Knight. Does anyone remember where it ended up? On the SCI FI channel. Guess who's interested again? Yep, the SCI FI channel. I'm a moderator on MoonlightVampireSociety.org, come on over check us out.

While I've never outright avoided any network completely, I have given up on shows when they've switched nights or changed writers or changed the show direction to the point of stupidity. I don't watch much on CBS, but I sure loved my Friday nights with Ghost Whisperer and Moonlight this season. CBS blew it by cancelling this show and I may just DVR anything in the future that I might want to watch from them, giving my viewing time to other networks. If another network like SciFi, FX or CW picks up Moonlight I will support them, their other programming and their advertisers. I have not been this upset about a show's cancellation in over a decade.

Barbara Thu, May 29, 2008 at 12:25 PM EST

Magnificent Seven. Cancelled. I stopped watching CBS.

They lured me back with Joan of Arcadia. Cancelled. I stopped watching CBS.

YEARS later, Moonlight comes along. Cancelled. I am totally, no matter what, done with CBS.

The only show I made it a point to watch on any of the big three was Moonlight. Otherwise, movies, cable, etc.

The big 3 keep losing viewers b/c they don't give "niche" programming a chance.

For the love of intelligence, why not cancel big 3 shows that have been around WAY TOO LONG: Ghost Whisperer, Cold Case, ER, a slew of comedies with people I've never heard of and don't care about.

We had 10 years of Friends, Seinfeld and any number of shows that (believe it or not) everyone did NOT watch.

Moonlight really should have been on SciFi, USA or the CW anyway...those stations know how to keep niche viewers.

I am so done.

Heather Thu, May 29, 2008 at 12:07 PM EST

I'm done with CBS. No Moonlight! No CBS! Why would I give another new CBS show a chance? They will just cancel it! I have never been so disappointed in a network in my entire life. All they have are procedural shows...so do all the rest of the networks. I'll just watch ABC, NBC, Fox...or better yet cable. Save Moonlight!!!

I have never boycotted a network before and especially CBS, it has been a mainstay on our television for many years. I HAD a lot of favorite shows there. I have not and will not watch it anymore, I will avoid buying products that advertise there. They have no empathy for the very viewers that have kept their ratings on top. They have basically thumbed their nose and told us that we will watch whatever they think we should watch. Well guess what??? We aren't going to take it anymore. CBS and Nina Tassler, you have lost credibility with millions of viewers. Not everybody is named Neilson, so get out of the 20th cntury and join the 21st. Shame on you!! Moonlight was so beloved to us, not a chance we will watch you now. There are plenty more just like me. Just check the boards. Moonlightline.com has links, come over and see what you can do about this. This is worldwide. Boycott of CBS. We are tired of being treated badly. You have stepped over the line this time. Boo Hiss!

mntngrl Thu, May 29, 2008 at 11:25 AM EST

Boycott CBS - No problem - No MOONLIGHT - No CBS

Rockshell Thu, May 29, 2008 at 10:11 AM EST

No, I have never boycotted a network before. But this time CBS has gone too far. My whole family loved watching this show together. With some hard work and a little luck, we'll be watching it again on another network. CBS who?

JennyP Thu, May 29, 2008 at 10:02 AM EST

I have not only boycotted CBS, but the advertisers as well! If they can cancel a beloved show like Moonlight which was the ONLY reason I tuned in to watch CBS with all their crappy reality and CSI shows, then I hope they suffer where it mostly counts - in their pocketbook!

skyeeblue Thu, May 29, 2008 at 09:40 AM EST

I love Moonlight and I am fighting to keep it... for more information go to www.moonlightline.com

Lisa Thu, May 29, 2008 at 08:03 AM EST

It will not be difficult for me to give up CBS all together. The only reason I returned to watching network tv again was because of Moonlight. I prefer movies, pbs, or cable channels to network television. CBS had a shot to keep me as a loyal viewer as long Moonlight was in their line up and they blew it, big time!!! Power to the tribe! Vampire Solidarity!!

mmarn Thu, May 29, 2008 at 07:46 AM EST

Between myself, my husband and my teenager we watched nine CBS shows in addition to Moonlight. We now watch zero and I've written to several advertisers explaining why. How long can I (and my disposable income) stay angry? Tick... tick...tick......

Leeser Thu, May 29, 2008 at 12:39 AM EST

Well, an effective strategy would be to not only boycott the network, but to boycott the advertisers, after first writing them to thank them for their fine products, and then telling them WHY you will no longer be buying them.

While CBS may poo-poo a network boycott, their advertisers won't be happy about reduced sales.

Don't mess with the Tribe. We have a very long reach.

CBS made a COLLOSSAL error in cancelling Moonlight. I am not a TV viewer, preferring movies and cable shows over network TV. I returned to network TV because of the EXCELLENCE OF MOONLIGHT. Now that they have cancelled it, I'll never return again. I can't wait to hear that their new shows are tanking and bombing. They deserve so much worse!!! MOONLIGHT FOREVER!!!

Susanna Wed, May 28, 2008 at 10:11 PM EST

I am very disappointed with CBS for not picking up Moonlight for a second season. It is a fabulous show, gripping storylines and a wonderful cast. I will certainly not be watching CBS after this cancellation.

Jozac Wed, May 28, 2008 at 09:24 PM EST

I am very upset about The cancellation of Moonlight. I loved the show and believed it deserverd a 2nd season. I am not a regular viewer of any of CBS shows except Moonlight, so yes to a major extent I will boycott CBS. I will without a doubt NOT watch anything On Friday nights on this station. At 9pm I will wath infomertials rather than channel 2 just on principle.

GiJi55 Wed, May 28, 2008 at 09:08 PM EST

I consider myself an average fan. Don't usually get involved, but this time, CBS went too far. They took a new show whose viewership was steadily increasing. a show that was getting better every week, and WON THE PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD!!!!!!!
Is that crazy? For the first time I am going to stop watching CBS. I will find out as many sponsors of CBS as I can and I will let them know why I am no longer going to buy their products. Don't care if they think I am nuts. they will be losing my $$'s.

CBS Who? No Moonlight ... No CBS Ever!
I'll go back to cable. If CBS thinks there dealing with a bunch of teenagers there wrong, not this time!
And there sponsers will find that my money will be spent else where also.
Ms Tassler needs to be hit with the Sacred Ass Paddle for her poor judgement.

nicole thurmond Tue, May 27, 2008 at 02:44 PM EST

Since CBS has officially cancelled the best show that I have ever seen in my 30 years of watching T.V. I have cancelled them!!!! I wrote a letter to CBS officials in California and told them that I used my cable remote to block all programs on channel 2. I told them since they took away "MOONLIGHT" they have lost me as a viewer. I also stressed to them that I remembered a time when the networks cared about their viewers and their opinons, but now it's based on some outdated ratings system and money!!!!! I don't care about their fall line-up if theres no "MOONLIGHT" there will be no channel 2 in my home!!!!!!!!!

GyngerT Tue, May 27, 2008 at 01:00 PM EST

Oh, and one more thing...I have plenty of those professional consumer dollars too. When I told Lifetime I would take them elsewhere, their answer was basically "don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out." So the answer to the question, "Do the CBS suits give (if I may borrow from some other commenter) a rat's posterior?" the answer is a definite No. Just look at the evidence.

GyngerT Tue, May 27, 2008 at 12:43 PM EST

I hardly ever watched CBS before Moonlight came on the air. Basically, after they canceled Forever Knight, I knew the network had no head for genre television and I didn't watch the network again until Moonlight came on. I wouldn't have even known about the show if it wasn't for the online buzz the show generated. I remember thing, "CBS?" Seriously, what appeal do any of their shows have for a tech professional 40+ lady from NY (I am really sick unto death of the many incarnations of CSI you can see all over cable)? So now that Moonlight is gone from the CBS line-up, the network will drop back into obscurity for me. Not really a boycott so much as the network not offering anything I like. When Lifetime canceled Blood Ties, and emailed me some ridiculous reasons for the cancellation, I stopped watching. Haven't been on that network since. I guess you can call that a boycott. Is it effective? Not really, IMO. There's always another person to take your place.

Vamp_fan Tue, May 27, 2008 at 11:57 AM EST

When Fox cancelled Dark Angel after the second season, I boycotted them for 3 years. The only reason I went back was because they brought back Family Guy after they cancelled that a few years before. I'm for sure not watching CBS or their programming anymore.

dee Tue, May 27, 2008 at 11:13 AM EST

I have in the past boycotted channels I still have not fully returned to Scifi after the Farscape and Invisible Man cancelations ... thou I do watch BSG. Buts its been what 8 years and I only watch BSG.
As for CBS besides Moonlight( which I loved) I watched 3 of there shows on mondays Not anymore I love them but I will not give my time to the network as they will not give shows a chance first Jericho now moonlight.
The networks have got to learn that the neilsons are severally out dated in this age, the fact there are fans in countrys where the show does not air says a lot about how outdated the ratings are.

erinn Tue, May 27, 2008 at 10:48 AM EST

I don't understand CBS. Can you not see that you made a stupid decision. Don't you see the articles and fans who are slamming you. No CBS before Moonlight...no CBS now. I even watched GW a bit before this because it was on before but gack it's awful and I don't feel like coming back..N Tassler get your head checked.

Beth Tue, May 27, 2008 at 09:07 AM EST

If no Moonlight, then no CBS for me!
Hell hath no fury like a Vamp Lover scorned!

Terry Tue, May 27, 2008 at 08:42 AM EST

I have no problem boycotting CBS permanently. Never has a television program had me waiting for Friday and not answering the phone or leaving even during commercials (good for advertisers) because I didn't want to miss one minute (no Tivo). I won't forgive and forget what CBS has done to my favorite hour of each week. They gave it to us and then with no thought to their watchers, took it away. No CBS in my home - ever.

Linn Tue, May 27, 2008 at 07:20 AM EST

Deciding to no longer watch CBS was really not a difficult decision. The powers that be really have no concern for that the viewers want.
For the first time in years something creative and imaginative comes on the air that people can become vested in and CBS pulls their usual "look people like this show...let's cancel it" mentality.
All I have to say is CBwho??? I won't bother investing in any energy into this network and I will encourage everyone I know not to either. We are not valued by CBS - that is clear.

diane31 Tue, May 27, 2008 at 05:00 AM EST

Hello fellow Moonlighters!
I just wanted to make sure that you know about the latest info because we really need to hurry up with this.
We all need to write to the Sci-fi channel asap while we still have a chance.
Sci-fi is very interested, Moonlight would fit perfectly there, but it is very expensive for them, so they need all the incentive we can give them to pick it up!!!!
For more info on what to do either go to my site:

I have personally decided to boycott CBS...I don't think it will be difficult at all considering that the only show that made me tune in is now cancelled...I'm pretty sure that whatever show they show next won't be as good as moonlight...I wish them luck...

Heartsick Tue, May 27, 2008 at 12:51 AM EST

I dont find it a problem to avoid CBS. What I did find was the strangeness of "having" to be in front of my tv every Fri at 9pm. I was a loyal MOONLIGHT viewer and will be once again to whichever network picks up this fantastic series. That network will have earned my heart and their advertisers will have earned my $$$. I have no box so you wont know I am there, but I will be. It is time the industry looks into a more accurate means to determine viewers.

Debi Tue, May 27, 2008 at 12:36 AM EST

I've never boycotted a network before, but no show has ever affected me this way. CBS Execs are fools for cancelling Moonlight. Quite a few CBS shows used to be watched here...all 3 CSIs, NCIS, Numb3rs, Cold Case...but we feel betrayed by their decision to cancel Moonlight so WE are cancelling CBS. I've banned CBS from our house!

Christy Mon, May 26, 2008 at 11:53 PM EST

I just got home from the Moonlight Convention in Los Angeles. Cancelling Moonlight was the stupidest network decision ever made. The show was gaining viewers like crazy and every day, more people join the army of fans. I didn't watch anything on CBS except Moonlight and Craig Ferguson. I will no longer be watching CBS. If they can't realize that Moonlight was a fantastic show with AMAZING fans, they don't need us. We'll take our eyeballs and wallets elsewhere.

Kay Mon, May 26, 2008 at 11:45 PM EST

We won't stop working to get MOONLIGHT picked up elsewhere . . . because the show and cast are just too good. CBS really did make a mistake letting this one go - and it's becoming quite clear that that belief is shared by the great majority! If you'd like to join our campaign check out www.moonlight-united.com
We're hoping SciFi will pick us up. There are many millions of us and our money who will follow MOONLIGHT. Guaranteed.

Amber Mon, May 26, 2008 at 11:40 PM EST

Although I watch many other shows on CBS besides Moonlight. if CBS goes through with canceling Moonlight I will completely boycott the network.

Lynn Mon, May 26, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

CBS is off my radar for good! Too bad, I like NCIS but will wait for the DVD.

Loved the smartness, the romance, the darkness, the uniqueness that was Moonlight. I will follow it wherever it goes - Hey SCIFI are you listening?

And by the way, demographics are insulting to me as well. So I guess my $$ are devaluated because I am over 50!

Angela M. Mon, May 26, 2008 at 11:14 PM EST

Hello there MOONLIGHT fans. Thought you would like to know there is a website centered on getting our Moonlight back. It's called moonlightline.com. Feel free to check it out. We fans would love to hear your thoughts.

Missy Mon, May 26, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

I too am a loyal Moonlight fan. This is the best show currently on TV and for CBS to cancel it shows a serious lack of good judgement on their part. I will no longer watch anything on CBS. I will however follow Moonlight to whatever network picks it up (think positive people!!) so SciFi, USA, TNT, FX, or whatever network picks up Moonlight, get ready for some new fans!

shelly k Mon, May 26, 2008 at 03:26 PM EST

I also feel backstabbed..I always looked forward to watching MOONLIGHT on friday nights...and now CBS cancelled it..and Im still not sure why..MOONLIGHT has MILLIONS OF DEDICATED FANS..loyal followers...and they won peoples choice awards for crying OUTLOUD! I usually watch csi...but not im boycotting..NO MORE CBS.. And let the advertisers know that "we, millions of fans" will go to whatever station picks up MOONLIGHT. CBS you suck!

Cheri Sun, May 25, 2008 at 09:04 PM EST

I accept shows come and go. But CBS made a big mistake cancelling Moonlight on Friday. If another network picks Moonlight up, I'll follow. Regardless of what CBS puts in Moonlights place. And usually once I settle on a channel thats it for the night. I don't flip around much. So no worries Moonlight, I'm crossing my fingers I see you in Season 2. Truely my fav new show, and fav new actors. See a petetion to save show, please do it. CBS has an e-mail address you can send somments to as well.

Debbie Sun, May 25, 2008 at 05:03 PM EST

As has been previously stated, I have never been so invested in a program before to care if it had been cancelled. Sure, I had other programs I missed when they were cancelled. But none of them touched me in so many levels. I used to watch both GW & Numb3rs as well, but have now LOCK CBS so it does not even appear as available. So, you can definitely add me to the growing list of those whowill not watch CBS under any circumstances.
I would like to add a slightly different take on why I feel MOONLIGHT should be pick up for next season. I have a tendancy to look beyond obvious meanings in TV programs and movies. In MOONLIGHT, you can draw a parallel between Mortals & Immortals learning to co-exist, and the current situation in our society. Mortals & Immortals have as little in common as any group of people. Yet, those that take the time to learn about the other, find common ground. It is a prime example of what is needed in our society today.

Kate Sun, May 25, 2008 at 04:08 PM EST

While I was disappointed that NBC canceled Journeyman, I won't boycott them because they are giving Life a chance (more eye candy and great acting in Damian Lewis).

However, CBS has not given Moonlight a fair chance. It should at least have given it a second season. In addition, they have nothing comparable or better to offer viewers.

I am sure that CBS ratings will feel the negative effects of their decision. Moonlight fans are angry and want CBS blood - which they will draw through reduced ratings. Boycott CBS - undoubtedly!

Kate Sun, May 25, 2008 at 03:58 PM EST

I have never boycotted a network before but I will boycott CBS now.

I am so insulted by their view that the 49+ demo doesn't count. They are so out of touch with the viewing public, they should go back to the drawing board. Soon shows like CSI, Criminal Intent, NCIS and Cold Case (all of which I am giving up now!!), will get stale. They have already been on the air for a while and viewers need change. That's why Moonlight was such a great show!

Boycott CBS - Your darn straight I will as will everyone in my family!!

Faye Sun, May 25, 2008 at 12:07 PM EST

I never boycotted a network for cancelling a show before because I never cared for a show worth boycotting for before. I was an avid CSI[Las Vegas], NCIS viewer. I thought 2 1/2 Men was hilarious. I watched Numb3rs at times also But if I missed them..no biggie. Then I saw Moonlight. I was bitten.. we NEVER missed it. Yes I will boycott for THIS one...Bye Bye CBS...

Julie Sun, May 25, 2008 at 10:42 AM EST

I have completely given up on CBS and watch cable. I wasn't pleased with the CBS lineup to begin with and was totally hooked on Moonlight so I even watched GW once. I didn't care for it. I liked Numbers, but it was getting stale along with the CSI's. The only one I liked was CSI LV anyway.

I think the biggest reason I will boycott the station is that I'm outside the demo's and was very insulted by the insinuation that I didn't count. I feel they handled that very poorly. The negative comments from Nina Tassler were offensive and very poor marketing.

I think their programming philosophy is outdated and out of touch with the viewing population as a whole.

Add me to the rapidly-growing list who have PERMANENTLY deleted CBS from the viewing channels in our home! I was IN the frickin' coveted "18-49" demographic, and what did it matter? I loved Moonlight and it's gone. Proof positive that a)the Nielsen ratings system is a dead, outdated horse and b)TV execs are only out to make a buck and don't give a rat's posterior about the viewing public. Have I ever boycotted a network before? Yes. It's now 34 years and counting for one un-named network. Make that two. Will it last? Oh you betcha.

Jackie Sat, May 24, 2008 at 09:26 PM EST

I wasn't watching CBS before Moonlight came on and now that it has been canceled I don't have any reason to ever go back to that network again. As for dropping a show cold turkey, I have only ever done that once with Angel. After the episode where they killed Cordelia and her ghost came to say goodbye to Angel, that was it, I never watched it again. I heard it got weird after that though so no great loss I suppose.

Amanda Sat, May 24, 2008 at 06:34 PM EST

I will boycott CBS by not watching it on TV but I will watch episodes of shows I like online

Jane Sat, May 24, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

I just found out Moonlight won't be on CBS's schedule next fall. Can't believe it!!!!! I was captured by Moonlight from the first episode and looked forward to this show every week, and I'm 63 yrs. old. I don't feel CBS even gave it a chance. I can't say I will never watch CBS again, but there wasn't much on there I watched anyway so won't have too much trouble going to other channels, especially the smart channel that picks up Moonlight.

Valerie, Bob Jilian & Alexis Sat, May 24, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

I'm not sure I'd call it a boycott. Just a quiet statement that we have so many entertainment options and tv is at the bottom of the list. We got hooked on Moonlight, voted in Peoples Choice, and lots of other polls, gave blood and sort of got invested in keeping Moonlight viable. It worked! Lots of fans, decent ratings, web chatter and then we get told thanks for all that but please watch more of the same stuff we had tuned into before and tuned off. So will we watch CBS, NO! We don't need to get invested into another show only to have it cancelled and we don't like your other offerings. Your sitcoms and csi shows bore us! So with our limited time we'll find another outlet to amuse us. It will definately not be CBS. If another network picks up Moonlight, We'll follow. But CBS, yawn!!! no way. Want stats? one 55 yr old female, one 23 yr old female, one 25 yr old female and one 60 yr old male.

Bob Sat, May 24, 2008 at 12:33 PM EST

My family and I have never been invested in any show previously to boycott a network, however we have done so with CBS.

My wife, kids and I loved Moonlight. When CBS cancelled it, they took away our Friday-night-family-time-at-home.

Network TV has been going down the toilet for years now. Once in a while they surprise us with a new show that people tend to get hooked on, but before you know it, they go and cancel it.

It's disheartening and upsetting to know that Network executives are not listening to the viewers!

I wish the advertisers would get a clue and send a strong message to the networks so things can change!

KellyH Sat, May 24, 2008 at 12:23 PM EST

CBS channel has been deleted from my household. So yes, I can certainly boycott a network!

By cancelling Moonlight, the only favorite show my family and I actually watch together, we want to send a strong message to the network and the advertisers that viewers pay TV to watch what WE want - not what some executive things we want to see!

PaulaF Sat, May 24, 2008 at 12:05 PM EST

Yes,I boycotted CW 10 years ago and haven't tuned in to the channel since then.

Since CBS cancelled my only favorite show on network TV - Moonlight, I have since deleted the channel completely!

What's the point of watching something that once in a while you actually like and invest emotionally in, only to have a network pull the rug on it?

CBS in particular screwed up big time with Moonlight! They had the coveted women demographics that all networks seem to want now, loyal fans, stable & consistent ratings (not bad 7-8 million viewers for a brand new show on air of less then 5 months with no marketing or promotional dollars) and a storyline that kept getting better and better with each episode.

So yes, unless I hear CBS bringing Moonlight back or Networks finally listening to what VIEWERS want to see and not what THEY think we want to see, I will stick with cable and home shopping channels.

Rosemary Sat, May 24, 2008 at 10:38 AM EST

Having never boycotted a station previously, I have gone cold turkey with CBS. No one in our household will ever watch CBS again (unless they have a change of heart with Moonlight). I wish I could delete CBS from appearing as an option on our television settings. I am looking into it.

Spaz Sat, May 24, 2008 at 07:13 AM EST

Did you know there is 274 comments about boycotting CBS here in just 3 days!! How many of us were part of the Nielsen ratings for Moonlight? How many of the loyal Moonlight fans counted? Think about this CBS! Does this tell the powers to be anything? Ditto to CJ, am also a 40 something professional with purchasing power. Along with moving our TV loyalty elsewhere, the MILLIONS of Moonlight fans should continue to focus on CW, USA and other networks to pick up the show and our $$.
