Trailer Encendedor: 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'

Well, this is a little ridiculous (just the way I like it): If you went to see Indy this weekend, you saw the official trailer for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. But the only trailer we can find online is in Spanish. Ha! Watch it anyway! Eerie, tinkling piano music and Brad Pitt cruising by on a hot bike need no translation.

I'm so psyched for this movie, in large part, I admit, because for once, I've actually read the piece of literature a movie is based on: F. Scott Fitzgerald's intriguing short story about a man who ages backwards. We should all age backwards, by the way. Tell me you wouldn't rather retire at the point at which you look exactly 18 years old instead of 65. Hey, science: Get on this!

Although the music in the trailer is the "Aquarium" movement from The Carnival of the Animals suite by Camille Saint-Saƫns.

I thought I would point out that the voices you hear singing in the middle of the piece is
a choir called Libera singing Lacrymosa.

Music is "The Aquarium" from Carnival of the Animals by French composer Camille Sainte-Saens. Beautiful! http://www.imeem.com/sademarq/music/1n8eEXv7/saintsaens_camille_aquarium/

I did see this trailer last weekend, right before my two hour Indy nap. It was the best part of the night. I thought for sure they had just changed Max Tivoli's name to Benjamin Button because it sounds cuter - two awfully similar pieces of fiction, I guess.

I wanted to see this movie, but not after watching the trailer. It basically tells the entire story.

The baby he's holding on his lap is Shiloh.

This looks awesome! Does anyone know who's doing the music on this film? IMDb doesn't say. It sounds like Philip Glass maybe.

It also made me think of the book "Confessions of Max Tivoli" by Andrew Sean Greer, also about a man who ages backwards. This looks great!

Thanks, Annie! I was already familiar with the story and the ending, but it is really beautiful and we don't want to spoil it for anyone!

I really love this trailer, it is so beautiful and haunting. *off to read short story*

Annie Barrett Tue, May 27, 2008 at 04:53 PM EST

Sorry all. I removed that part. I'm the worst. That's tricky, with the literature...

mscisluv Tue, May 27, 2008 at 04:37 PM EST

Good point - why did you give away the ending?

Tue, May 27, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

why would you give away the ending for those who don't know the story??

Stephanie Tue, May 27, 2008 at 03:03 PM EST

Sounds exactly like something Karl Pilkington (of The Ricky Gervais Show fame) would dream up.

My fear is that this will continue the trend of only "liking" a fincher movie after having "loved" the last fincher movie. (Liked Alien3, loved Se7en, liked The Game, loved Fight Club, liked Panic Room, loved Zodiac)

Lorlor Tue, May 27, 2008 at 02:22 PM EST

Haven't I already seen this? Wasn't it called Mork and Mindy?

I love everything about this: the music, the tone, the color, the time period, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Fincher and Pitt united again...LOVE.IT.
