Spot Inspection: Your latest YouTube obsession

What's your latest YouTube obsession? Thanks to the Mamma Mia! trailer, and the fact that I saw the Broadway show for the first time recently, I'm all about ABBA videos at the moment.

My favorite clip (because this one of "Honey Honey" is not embeddable) could be "Take a Chance on Me." Every moment is awesomely bad.

After the jump, a few more of the contenders...

"Knowing Me, Knowing You"... Knowing a giant Slinky?

"Does Your Mother Know" ... That you stand that way, Agnetha?

"Waterloo": Now that's a production number.

"The Winner Takes It All" ... Including some blue eye shadow!

"Chiquitita": I'm sure there was a reason for them to be singing in front of a large snowman.

ABBA, Olivia Newton-John, and Andy Gibb covering the Beach Boys? Why not?

Jesus People eps 1 thru 6 has been my latest obsession since 'the office' went off the air last week. I find myself laughing out-loud and forwarding it on to my friends who like that kind of humor.

Peter Anderson Thu, May 22, 2008 at 06:17 PM EST

Abba is the greatest band that is revered the world over and I'm so sick of American media mocking them. Why can't you just accept that this music makes millions of people happy?

ang knee Thu, May 22, 2008 at 01:04 AM EST

Some of ABBA's videos and TV spots look hilarious, sorry, "awesome," today, but they worked wonders at the time. Then as now, I prefer the songs audio-only. Pop of the highest order. ABBA: The Movie, Lasse Hallestrom's first feature, is the best place to see the group in action.

I don't have a YouTube obsession, but it sounds like Jesus People could be it.

Sarah Kouba Wed, May 21, 2008 at 10:41 PM EST

I agree. As a Christian woman JESUS PEOPLE is a bit unsettling... but awkward comedy like EXTRAS or the LARRY SANDERS SHOW has always made me squirm... and I guess that's why I watch. JP reminds me a lot of those shows.

Rachel Wed, May 21, 2008 at 03:54 PM EST

I can’t believe other ew’ers have discovered my little obsession. Thought I was the only one who knew about jesus people. Love the kate flannery (Meredith from The Office) episode… think it’s 3

Julie Wed, May 21, 2008 at 02:43 PM EST

Has anyone seen the fifth and sixth episode of JESUS PEOPLE on youtube? The guy from Will and Grace and Knocked Up is f'ing hilarious as Jesus.

Jessica Wed, May 21, 2008 at 01:40 PM EST

I agree with Andrew. I saw Jesus People when it was on the front page of youtube two weeks ago. For the first time, I've actually tuned in every Monday TO A WEBSERIES. That must be a good thing.

Andrew Wed, May 21, 2008 at 01:34 PM EST

My latest youtube obsession is episodes 1-6 of Jesus People. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve seen with some of my favorite cast members from The Office and Chrisopher Guest films.

I can't get enough of Muhammad Ali on Youtube! The site's got "When we were kings" In 10 minute snippets (but the whole movie is there for free mi gente!), the interview Ali did with Mike Tyson on the Arsenio Hall show, old clips of Ali rapping, highlights of his best fights, and recaps of his career. What could be better? ALI CUMBAYE indeed.

aps Wed, May 21, 2008 at 12:59 PM EST

i like how absolutely none of them knew the verses of help he rhonda.

cranky Wed, May 21, 2008 at 11:40 AM EST

Thanks for the "Take A Chance" video..it made my freakin' day. The Vaseline-smeared camera lenses, the horrifying fair-isle sweaters, the split screen (SO high tech!) and especially the 'sexy' winks. Awesome!!!

wildecat Wed, May 21, 2008 at 11:16 AM EST

My husband and I are in an Irish band and he was searching youtube for some new tunes for us to perform when he came upon this band from Serbia (yes, Serbia) who play traditional Irish music, called Orthodox Celts! We love them!

monica Wed, May 21, 2008 at 11:16 AM EST

1. Babies falling asleep while eating (it used to be babies laughing)
2. The Numa Numa guy, after Chris Evans mentioned it.
3. The Junior Paso Doble that you guys showed in your Dancing with the Stars slideshow (last slide). I usually watch all DWTS clips on youtube.
4. And always KevJumba. He's just a funny guy.

Jay Wed, May 21, 2008 at 10:03 AM EST

I'm obsessed watching dancehall moves on youtube. But I found this one http://youtube.com/watch?v=JqgUhD59DWI
that has me in tears. You can forward to 0:58min if you don't have 1:35mins to spare. Just hilarious.

Jason Wed, May 21, 2008 at 09:27 AM EST

I am totally hooked on the Davey Dance Blog. His great framings of iconic locations and the way he just makes dance happen in the middle of everyone is hypnotic.

My kids are loving the manualist skills of Gerry Phillips, especially the Benny Hill Theme. Dude can rock the hand toots.

Tink in Cali Wed, May 21, 2008 at 09:16 AM EST

As embarrassing as it may be, David Cook's performances on Amercian Idol are my obsession. I watch at least 3-4 of them a day. I can't help it!

Cristina Wed, May 21, 2008 at 09:00 AM EST

Many years ago, my ABBA Greatest Hits CD got stuck in my car stereo. Actually, the stereo broke because for I could either listen to ABBA or nothing at all. I was in school and had no money to get it fixed. I soon HATED ABBA. It is good to know that I can watch these videos and once again appreciate the pure gold of them. :)

aymzer Wed, May 21, 2008 at 08:44 AM EST

btw, "boylicious" music is NSFW

aymzer Wed, May 21, 2008 at 08:43 AM EST

i have been watching a lot of old performances from so you think you can dance in preparation for the new season starting thursday. Also, search "boylicious"...you will not be sorry!

RayT Wed, May 21, 2008 at 08:29 AM EST

I can't stop watching "Charlie Bit Me."

Celimene Wed, May 21, 2008 at 08:07 AM EST

I am immune to YouTube's charms since South Park Studios started broadcasting every episode online. I'm hooked, I say. And I've become fully convinced that Butters is the best character ever. The Butters-Cartman relationship is priceless.

Kathleen Wed, May 21, 2008 at 07:57 AM EST

Well now Andy Gibb is going to be my youtube obsession. Dear gawd, how I loved him.

mjade27 Wed, May 21, 2008 at 05:58 AM EST

That's great! Probably my favorite ABBA song and a cheese-tastic video.
The latest youtube obsession in our house is the FOTCs new video for "Ladies of the World" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLJ5a6aJOb8,
- mad skating skills, jumpsuits, porn 'staches - what more could you want?

K Tue, May 20, 2008 at 11:36 PM EST

Australia's Next Top Model fully trumps our stateside version. Child of the corn Alamela (who I thought was Ella Miller until today) and her brutal bullies IS the best, but the drunkenness, stupidity, and cursing certainly helps. Australians don't know who Winston Churchill is? Fantastic. Britain's Next Top Model's pretty great too.

sari Tue, May 20, 2008 at 09:12 PM EST

I have two obsessions and they are both old. But you know the saying...OLDIES BUT GOODIES.

The Home Shopping Channel man calling a moth a horse:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3QVNmkSivlw

and Manchester Orchestra Podcasts (There are 70 of them so I'll post my fav): http://youtube.com/watch?v=KkOg80a4NKY

Jeff Tue, May 20, 2008 at 07:33 PM EST

totally into a web series found on youtube called "Roommating." it's hilarious, trust me.

Melissa Tue, May 20, 2008 at 07:25 PM EST

I cannot hear "Take a Chance on Me" without hearing andy singing it to angela on "The Office"

actingup Tue, May 20, 2008 at 07:19 PM EST

LOVE LOVE LOVE Abba. Some of the best pop bubble gum music EVER. I challenge you to listen and not dance around your living room. Whenever I am blue- I pop in ABBA GOLD and I instantly feel better.

Cece Tue, May 20, 2008 at 07:08 PM EST

Funny you should mention it because I just finished watching my two youtube obsessions: EJami and Liason clips (that's EJ and Sami and Liz and Jason for the uninitiated). I miss my soaps during the day and, frankly, they suck for the most part. But there are others like myself who would like to fast forward through all the scenes that have nothting to do with their couples and watch the juicy stuff. Today I got a heartbreaking good-bye kiss from Liason on General Hospital (bring those two back together NOW!!!!) and the steamiest love scene on daytime EVA!!! (You go, Days of Our Lives.)

Martha Tue, May 20, 2008 at 06:37 PM EST

Current YouTube obsession: watching old Electric Company videos with my daughter while waiting to get the DVDs from Netflix.
Liking the ABBA videos too, especially since I finally caught Mamma Mia on Broadway last month. If you like Abba songs and snow, check out this wicked awesome French & Saunders parody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eidyrlSdKcE

Heather Tue, May 20, 2008 at 06:36 PM EST

I have a nasty obsession of watching songs I like on YouTube, whether it be the music video, live performance, or a Heroes-liked video of it.

Snarf Tue, May 20, 2008 at 06:02 PM EST

Credits & theme songs from bad cartoons I used to watch as a kid. Birdman, Rocket Robin Hood, Scooby-Doo Where Are You, and Josie and The Pussycats among others.
(Aw hell. I just dated myself again)

Maun Tue, May 20, 2008 at 05:07 PM EST

Opening credits from old TV shows. I could watch these all day. I wish more shows still had theme songs!

Broadway Baby Tue, May 20, 2008 at 04:59 PM EST

The 'mind sticker' TAB commercial - from the early 70s I'd guess by the clothes. I play it at least once a day and I still giggle long after it's over.

Heather Tue, May 20, 2008 at 04:56 PM EST

Sesame Street clips are definitely my obsession. I recently rediscovered Momix's same/different clip - it is absolutely hilarious!

Caitlin Tue, May 20, 2008 at 04:48 PM EST

episodes of cute with chris (also at cutewithchris.com) and the "what am i? what am i?" video. hilarious.

Eric Friedmann Tue, May 20, 2008 at 04:46 PM EST

Lately, I have been recalling my childhood of the 1970s by watching YouTube videos of things like vintage Sesame Street, TV commercial ads, TV promo ads for the ABC Sunday Night Movie, the 4:30 Movie and the like. Fun stuff!

Laura Tue, May 20, 2008 at 04:38 PM EST

Search 'powerthirst' on youtube. It's seriously an addiction. After you watch the first one, watch the second. They're both equally amazing.

Heather Tue, May 20, 2008 at 04:29 PM EST

My sister turned me onto "The Count Song" from Sesame Street with the word "count" bleeped as if it were a dirty word. Pure comic gold!

David Tue, May 20, 2008 at 04:23 PM EST

This is a great Abba vid too:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKr0gDNUn-U

Deb Tue, May 20, 2008 at 04:18 PM EST

I skipped the PBS version of Mansfield Park when it aired because I am not a fan of Billie Piper. But the DVD was available at the library one day so I watched it and, what do you know, there is Malachi from BBC's Hex (playing Mr. Crawford). Which led me to Amazon to see if Hex S2 is available on DVD (no) which led me to YouTube where I now stop daily for a Hex fanvid or episode viewing. How did we ever do without it?

Tue, May 20, 2008 at 04:17 PM EST

abba is awesome- always has been- always will be.
