Your Must List suggestions, please

Categories: Mom Blog, Must List

Diablocody_l Normally I don't fall for the latest Internet hipster fad, but my friend sent me a link to the website Postcards From Yo Momma, and, well, the rest of my (productive) day was history. Its genius lies in its simplicity: e-mails submitted by sons and daughters from their mommas (most are sent in anonymously — see one notable exception below). Two of my favorites:

Look who finally learned the computer. Dad set me up email ACCOUNT AND ALSO SHOWED ME HOW TO GO ONLINE.I DON’T KNOW WHY EVERYTHING IS SUDDENLY WRITING BIG LIKE THIS, SO JUST IGNORE IT. SO HOW WAS THE CONCERT YOU WENT TO WITH FRIENDS/ CALL ME SOON. THIS WRITING IS WEIRD SORRY, LOVE MOM.

And this one Diablo Cody (pictured) sent in from her mom, posted here.

Honest to blob, it's hours of your life you will never, ever get back.

How about you, PopWatchers? Which current TV shows/movies/music/books/games/websites make your Must List this week? In the comments below, list up to three, and include your e-mail address so we can contact you if we decide to use your submission in the magazine. Deadline is tomorrow, Thursday, April 3, at 10 a.m. ET.

Garen Inboden Sun, Apr 13, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

Upright Citizens Brigade: ASSSSCAT! DVD - Brilliant improv comedy. Hilarious! Matt, Amy, Ian, and Matt are great!

Frank Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 04:18 PM EST

The Ron and Fez Show on XM Satellite Radio, with hosts Ron Bennington and Fez Whatley - weekdays 12-3pm ET on XM Channel 202.
The best-kept - and funniest - secret in radio!

PHTadd Sun, Apr 6, 2008 at 09:58 PM EST

"Rock of Love II." This last episode, I found myself thinking both "Daisy looks pretty" and "Wow, so sweet of Bret to remove his bandanna out of respect for the contestants' parents" -- two sentiments I never, ever thought I'd express about these people! I'm hooked...

Habiba Fri, Apr 4, 2008 at 05:23 PM EST

I love the celebrity photos and quirky article on thecheappop.com

Anjeliki Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 04:09 PM EST

OK, I know I'm too late for the deadline, but tedmosbyisajerk.com is a must, for the song alone.

Michael Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 02:29 PM EST

"Small Favor" by Jim Butcher. Forget the short lived "Dresden Files" TV show (though I loved it). Go to the source for the latest in this quirky detective/fantasy series. The wise cracking main character is a detective that advertises in the phone book under "Wizard." Enough said.

Anonymous Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 01:29 PM EST

How about writing better, more interesting blogs? Some of the stuff y'all blog about is really boring.

Shira Sha-nee-nee Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 01:25 PM EST

I was at Rockefeller Center Tuesday to see REM and some dude gave me a fake stick-on mustache and a copy of "The Book of Bert." I went home and nearly peed my pants while reading it - it was so freakin funny!

Mike Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 01:05 PM EST

I flipped through a little bit of the Book of Bert yesterday and it was awesome. Saw some folks all over the city wearing fake mustaches. Glad to see the stache coming back!

oren Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 12:34 PM EST

The Book of Bert: High Class Stars with some High Class Stache ... a great book about celeb mustaches HILARIOUS!

Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 12:25 PM EST

Britney Spears on How I met your mother- now that she's making a comeback is it safe to start making fun of her again?

Katee Sackoff- her recent interview with EW and the return of Starbuck have got my knees trembling

video game- Bully:Championship edition for the xbox 360. Dissecting frogs, kissing cute girls and skipping class. It's like all the best of high school without the screaming hormones to screw up your judgement....Sweet!

LisaMama Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 11:10 AM EST

Oh, and I second Todd's nomination of Idolatry -- KLC as a giant lizard robot = genius!

LisaMama Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 11:07 AM EST

Postcards From Your Momma is so hilarious, I just had to post my favorite comment from a mom to her daughter: "please bring hose appropriate for church - I know Jesus went barefoot/sandals, but ladies wear hose in church if nowhere else." LOL!

My Must List is Eli Stone, a good lawyer show similar to Boston Legal without having to put up with William Shatner's annoying character. It's more like Ali McBeal, when that was a good show.

Matt Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 07:56 AM EST

Only one thing I can recommend this time of year -- the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament on CBS and the Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament on ESPN. Not only have both been filled with great games, they are the pinnacle of sports broadcasting every year. Come on, EW. Finally acknowledge that sports broadcasting plays a huge role on television.

MGM Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 07:44 AM EST

How could you do this to me? I can't get off of the yo mamma postcard site...its gonna be a wasted day

My must list includes the dailypuppy.com and woot.com

white person Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 07:12 AM EST

I'll second Bob with www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com. As relayed by a friend, they drove up in their Toyota Prius (#60) and showed us a picture on their iPhone (#40) of them at a Barack Obama (#8) event in the valley. Bonus points if you can beat that in one sentence.

Elizabeth Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 07:04 AM EST

The First 48 on A&E... I'm going to submit it until its included!

MyMomisYourMom Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 05:26 AM EST

Oh my goodness, I read the site, and that is TOTALLY my mom. Writing to all those people. This is unbelievable. What is it about cyberspace that makes our moms turn into the same person?
Dear __________
How are you! Hope you are not working too hard! We are good but miss you and wish you would come home more often!
Did you remember to pay your car insurance bill? Have a letter here from them...hope it is not overdue.
When is your next time off? Hope you can come visit and I will actually get to SEE you this time!
XOXO,
Mom

B Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 01:10 AM EST

BSG, BSG, and BSG, in no particular order. ANd yeah, totally the 8-minute review. Frakking hilarious!!

Dan Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 12:55 AM EST

I don't just want to recommend Battlestar Galactica, seeing as the season hasn't officially begun. What I'd like to recommend is the 8 minute "What the Frak is Going On With BSG?" recap video. It's hysterically dry, it's accessible, and, oh yeah, it actually recaps the entire 3 previous seasons well!

Shaun Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 10:40 PM EST

P.S. Ditto on "The Torchwood"!

Shaun Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 10:38 PM EST

BATTLESTAR GALATICA! It's fourth and final season premieres this week! It's a definite MUST!

Chris Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 10:33 PM EST

Madonna's new single "4 Minutes" proves what we've always known: the lady knows how to create dance songs that are classic and yet oh-so-new at the same time.

Chris Richards Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 10:28 PM EST

I have been reading a delightful little book, 'The English American,' by Alison Larkin. It's a touching exploration of roots and where you come from with heart and humor.

Nix Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 10:22 PM EST

"The Good Life" -- debut album of Justin Townes Earle, Steve's son. Who needs a reality TV show if you actually have the chops?

Matt Hughes Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 10:18 PM EST

Rockferry by Duffy. She sounds modern and retro at the exact same time. I could listen to "Mercy" all damn day long.

'Vid Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 10:01 PM EST

a) if you can't get enough of making the band -- "Welcome to the Dollhouse" is a nice fix for DK junkies. Maybe not hip enough to include, but c'mon! We all need a little mindless fun now and again.
b) Bad Girls Club... keeps getting better and better. Trashtastic. I challenge anyone to watch a single episode and not be hooked.
c) THE GOOD NIGHT. Directed by Gwyneth's bro, featuring Penelope Cruz, Martin Freeman (from original UK office fame), Simon Pegg (stretching his acting muscles), Danny DeVito, and yes, Gwyneth Paltrow. Totally kicks ass. A diamond in the ruff, if you will.

"Belong to Me"- new book out this week by Marisa de los Santos. I've been looking forward to the next work by this author since reading her first, "Love Walked In." Beautiful writer

Kelly Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 09:16 PM EST

The Itunes Studio Version of David Cook's "Billie Jean"- David's sultry voice shines during this song complete with a guitar solo that makes me practice my air guitar moves every time i hear it.

cimagato Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 08:47 PM EST

Have you guys recommended Torchwood yet? It's funny, silly, sexy, strange and scary. Pretty much anything you'd want from TV. (Even though your Ken Tucker didn't much care for it.)

Aaron Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 08:33 PM EST

The Black Keys - a new album out, produced by Danger Mouse, and a tour that's stripped down but still very hard-rockin'. Saw them last night in LA and was reminded how much sound can come from but two instruments.

Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 07:26 PM EST

The Doogie Howser reference at the end of this week's How I Met Your Mother was priceless.

Sunshine Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 07:18 PM EST

1. Postcards From Yo Momma -- I got into it a couple of days ago and haven't been able to stop reading.
2. Justin Townes Earle's "The Good Life" -- just awesome, old-timey country music. This is real country music - forget that crap on the radio.
3. "Rock The Cradle" -- OK, it hasn't aired yet, but the concept amuses me. It could be awesome or it could be awesomely bad. Either way, I'll be watching.

Charlee Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 06:51 PM EST

"Twilight" just got on the bandwagon, read it in 3 days, can't wait till the movie with Robert Pattinson!
"Sweeney Todd" 2-disc special ed., A-MAZING.
"How I Met Your Mother" yeah I'm slow on the bandwagon jumping.

Michael Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 06:42 PM EST

"Piano Song" by Meiko - Catchy, light, and easy to listen to. If I had a TV show this would be the theme song.
Torchwood - Just discovered this sexy British sci-fi show and I'm already addicted!

Rose Tyler Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 06:38 PM EST

1. Cappy on Greek- A modern day Bluto.
2. Dan in Real Life soundtrack- How it got lost in all the hub bub of the Juno and Once soundtracks I do not know.

Nathaniel Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 06:35 PM EST

just kidding, the movie is called forgetting sarah marshall, not i hate sarah marshall.

Nathaniel Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 06:33 PM EST

www.ihatesarahmarshall.com is a blog written by Peter Bretter (aka Jason Segal's character from I Hate Sarah Marshall. Complete with charts, youtube clips, and photoshopped pictures, it is the funniest thing I've read in months. As my friend Molly put it, "Gotta love that viral marketing."

Bob Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 06:24 PM EST

1) stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com - a hilarious website looking at the stereotypes/obsessions associated with your everyday white person (80s theme parties, organic food, majoring in things with no real purpose)

2) America's Next Top Doll! Will Thursday's boyfriend still love her without her hair? I honestly can't wait until Slezak shows that phone call confessional.

Daniel Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 06:15 PM EST

-- "Kick-Ass" by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. - issue 2 of this raucous spin on the superhero story - already being made into a film! - hit stores today with a blurb from Ken Tucker and EW on the back (his grade: A). But I'm confused; his review never appeared in the magazine OR on EW.com, so was this an advance blurb, or what?
-- "Sweeney Todd" 2-Disc Collectors Edition - Great movie, even greater features; what's not to love?
-- www.southparkstudios.com - You can now watch every single 'South Park' episode ever, legally and for free. But beware: if you visit the site, be prepared to stick around for hours because you WILL get hooked.

Catherine Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 05:51 PM EST

Can we please stop invoking Diablo Cody? I'm sick to death of her.

Amelia Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 05:44 PM EST

Joel McHale. He is always awesome on "The Soup" every week. AND with his casting in "The Informant", he should definitly make it on the must list.

NineDaves Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 05:23 PM EST

1) High School Confidental on WE. A powerful program following 12 girls through 4 years of high school, as they deal with alcohol, sex, depression, pregnancy, and more. High school never looked so good.

2) The Degrassi Spring Break movie. Airing on friday, it'll be the High School Musical without the musical.

3) tedmosbyisajerk.com. HIMYM once again brilliantly connects their show with a laugh-out-loud online component worthy of your double click.

Silv Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 04:38 PM EST

Regarding the postcards site -- had no idea I sounded this bad.

Todd Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 04:27 PM EST

My Must List includes watching "Idolatry" -- everytime you depict contestant Kristy Lee Cook as a robot it makes me laugh out loud. I found the Mechagodzilla clips to be particularly hilarious. I do feel just a little bit bad for her though...
