Trailer Blazer: 'War, Inc.'

Apr 8, 2008, 01:51 PM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: Film, Movie Trailers

You know when you're at the movies, and after each trailer you see, you turn to the friend sitting next to you and say either yes, no, or maybe? (Or, is that just my movie buddy Karen and I?) War, Inc. is a definite yes. You've got John Cusack playing a comically morose hitman, a scene-stealing Joan Cusack yelling at him, and a story looking like it delivers: John Cusack, who co-wrote the script, is hired by a private corporation — run by a former U.S. Vice President (Dan Aykroyd) — that has occupied the country of Turaqistan and needs a Middle East oil minister to disappear. Somehow, his cover involves planning the wedding of Yonica Babyyeah (Hilary Duff), a Middle Eastern pop star who isn't afraid to put a scorpion down her pants (young-starlet-grows-up alert!), and wooing a journalist (Marisa Tomei).

Yes, no, or maybe?

I love John and Joan Cusack...but Hillarie Duff? UGH! Who keeps putting her in movies?? She can't act or sing. You can get away with that apparently when you are 14 - but now she is just embarrassing.

Mozz Wed, Apr 9, 2008 at 12:26 PM EST

1. It doesn't look like hit, but i do want to see it. 2. I think Hillary Duff's cool quotient just went up.

PA_Bill Wed, Apr 9, 2008 at 09:31 AM EST

Absolutely Not!! John & Joan Cusack can take their anti-war loving a**es to France for all I care. I used to like John Cusack, but he needs to realize he is an actor; not a philosopher, or a politician.

kristie Wed, Apr 9, 2008 at 08:43 AM EST

I'll watch anything with John Cusack.

cookiemac Wed, Apr 9, 2008 at 08:21 AM EST

cebellos, dan akroyd was in grosse point blank as on of the rival hitmen sent to finish the job

dma69 Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:23 PM EST

This movie has bomb written all over it. And why is that Lizzie Macguire chick getting second billing over much more talented actors like Joan Cusack, Marisa Tomei, Dan Ackroyd, and Ben Kingsley? She's dressed like Britney and her accent is awful. Ugh.

Diana Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 10:17 PM EST

I want my brother and I to be the Cusack siblings when we're older :)

noodles Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 08:57 PM EST

Hells No! This looks abysmal. Anything with Hilary Duff can't be good.

Valerie Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 08:36 PM EST

Oh, definitely. Mandy... you had me at "John Cusack" ! : )

Tom from NJ Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 07:56 PM EST

Surprisingly awesome trailer. I heard Cusack talking about it on Bill Maher and had no idea it was so comically tongue-in-cheek.

CYmtl Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 06:11 PM EST

I want to see it precisely because I love Grosse Pointe Blank so much. Come on, it's John Cusack!

Benjh Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 04:22 PM EST

Hell yes. That Lebron James joke was huge, if they have anything else of the same caliber it's gonna be worth it.

Matthew Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 03:57 PM EST

John Cusack
Joan Cusack
Dan Aykroyd
and a actress / songstress...

Yeah, I liked it better when it was Gross Pointe Blank... same movie, snappier soundtrack

Benny Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

Looks good. So I'll say yeah but since the movie is released by First Look, which is not a very big movie studio, means I'll probably have to catch it on DVD.

Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 03:10 PM EST

I love Hilary Duff uses the same accent in this movie that she used when she was being "Italian" in the Lizzie McGuire Movie.

Cece Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 02:53 PM EST

Haven't watched the trailer yet, but it sounds like Gross Pointe Blank: Taking it to the Mideast.

Anna Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 02:24 PM EST

I vote no for now. The movie looks like a mess although that just may be the trailer.

As for the made up name. It's not just Hollywood. People have been making up names of countries that don't exist forever (e.g. Middle Earth). In this case the reasons for doing so may be political since no one wants to anger another Middle Eastern nation at the moment.

Ceballos Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 02:20 PM EST

Actually, I think they can get away with making up a ridiculous name for a Third World nation because...it's a COMEDY.

My personal favorite is Kerplakistan from "Austin Powers."

To evie Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 02:14 PM EST

Hollywood can get away with make up names of Third world nations because Americans don't know Geography. I wouldn't be surprised that less than 10% of the population knew that Afganistan existed (I did, but that's because I read newspapers). Hollywood use to do this for Europe too. Check out "The Mouse that Roared" with Peter Sellers.

evie Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 02:08 PM EST

This isn’t an original thought, because I remember reading this about the fictional African nation in “The Interpreter,” but does anyone else find it funny that Hollywood can just make up names of third world nations? If there was a movie about a European country called Irely or Swance people would think it was ridiculous!

But yes, I will totally go see the movie anyway. It's the Cusacks!

monica Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 02:01 PM EST

i think john cusack is funny and i'm tickled to see what hilary duff looks like when she's trying to be sexy, BUT..i'll watch it on dvd. I would hate for a theater-goer to interrupt my fun with their talking, snoring, crying baby, or making out. *rolls eyes*

P.S. Me and whoever i go to the movies with always do the "yes, no, maybe" game. This is technically a maybe.

Maggs Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:52 PM EST

Oh yes! You had me at John and Joan Cusack. Was it wrong that I laughed at all the inappropriate scenes which then made me feel a little guilty? Meh, who cares I'm so watching this!

E Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:36 PM EST

Grosse Point Blank 2.0. LOVE IT!

Heather Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:32 PM EST

I may be an odd duck, but I was more excited for a movie with Joan Cusack and Ben Kingsley. (Although I'd never spit at Marissa or John. Or Dan.)

paige Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:29 PM EST

is it me or is it weird that 1) Hilary Duff looks like she will finally be in a good movie and 2)she is billed before marisa tomei?

Stan Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:28 PM EST

Cusack ROCKS!!!!!!!

Yomou Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:27 PM EST

Cusack is THE most underrated actor of his day. Cant wait see this

Looking forward to the Lucious Gong Li and Cusack in "Shanghai" as well

Ryan Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:20 PM EST

Joan Cusack and Marisa Tomei are two of the most criminally underused actors in Hollywood today. That they're both in a movie that looks great is awesome news.

jcarla Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:15 PM EST

I reminds me of 'Grosse Point Blank'. Like an older version of that character. Still I give it a yes, I'll go.

Ceballos Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:15 PM EST

"You've got John Cusack playing a comically morose hitman, a scene-stealing Joan Cusack yelling at him, and a story looking like it delivers."

...so basically, (with the added presence of Dan Aykroyd) what we have is "Grosse Point Blank"? Oh wait, I LOVE "Grosse Point Blank! So I say "Yes!", especially given my ginormous crush on Marisa Tomei, who is sorta stepping in for Minnie Driver as the love interest.

Elizabeth Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:06 PM EST

I'll check "yes": Love the Cusacks! And it will be nice to see Hillary Duff in something not with "Dozen" in the title :)

Sportof theFuture Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:03 PM EST

no

Snarf Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:02 PM EST

Actaully with my friend it's "Hmmmmmm!" (usually reserved for blockbusters, wicked satires and movies with hotties), "Meh", or "Craaaaaap"
This is definately "Hmmmmm!" territory.
