'The Bachelor' recap: Chelsea slips into something more comfortable

Apr 29, 2008, 11:58 AM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: 'The Bachelor', Mini TV Watch, Reality TV, Television

Bachelorchelsea_l There was so much goodness (read: awesome badness) in this episode, that I don't know where to begin. So before we get into ousted Amanda calling Matt a "douchebag" (you go, girl!), I'm gonna pretend I'm a Bachelor cameraman and go where the skin is.

Can you believe Chelsea let them film her slipping into something more comfortable at the end of her overnight date with Matt in Barbados? You didn't see anything, other than her slipping off her panties with a bedazzled "pretty" on them, but still. Ewww. That said, that long black (mesh? crochet? lace?) dress worked its charm on Matt, who needed to see that Chelsea could, indeed, stomach romance after she kept her distance from him on their afternoon dive with sea turtles. "The turtle was closer to me physically than Chelsea," Matt said. "I had better eye contact with the turtle underwater, with goggles and a mask thing on, than I did with Chelsea. I was gutted." At dinner, Chelsea explained to Matt that she was distancing herself from him because the other women, and the fear of not knowing how she'd handle rejection, were overwhelming her. And I totally get that. But I think he's totally gonna choose her. As he noted, he's almost said too much to her in regards to his feelings: we know his parents will love her, that he considers her one of his best friends, that he loves her sense of humor and believes they'd make a great couple who have a lot of fun together. And he really did look upset in his confessional, when he was dissecting what started out as the most awkward overnight date in Bachelor history. ("Matt: I think about you a lot." Chelsea: "Good.") If she does get along with Matt's parents, the ring is hers.

After the jump, Shayne enjoys being blond (since she was 12 or 13) and Amanda needs Matt to say he's just not that into her.

Shayne was Matt's first date in Barbados, and since he's no longer worried that she's on the show just to become Paris Hilton, he was able to focus his attention on what really matters: Shayne doing split jumps on a trampoline. Canoodling in the ocean, in the sand, and in the swimming pool. Figuring out if Shayne's dumb blond act is, as he suspects, just an act. Does she just ask stupid questions — e.g. "Do they have palm trees in London?" and "I'm intellectual — is that how you say that word?" — because  she thinks it's cute, and not because she doesn't know the answer. I can't decide what annoyed me more: That Shayne thinks playing dumb is a good way to keep a relationship "spicy," or that apparently, it works. (Matt said he "loves it." And that he could easily seem himself with Shayne, his "little monkey.") I do believe Shayne is smart, and knows when she's being entertaining (schooling Matt on the art of the tongue-less actor kiss) and giving a good sound bite: "To be honest with you, I love being blond. I love it. I've been blond since I was 12, maybe 13." I'd like to say that her fate will depend on whether she knows when to cut the act (meaning, when meeting Matt's parents), but I don't think Matt really considers her a potential life partner. Telling the camera that he was "seriously touched" by Shayne expressing that she's falling in love with him, to me, seemed like a nice way of saying, "I'm flattered. I didn't think my little monkey had it in her." I could be totally wrong. Am I?

Last and, well, least, we get to Amanda. I feel like something had to have happened on one of their earlier dates, that we didn't get to see, to explain why Amanda was sooo worried that Matt wouldn't  have offered her the fantasy suite. What was that about? (I hope Chris Harrison gets to the bottom of it in next week's bachelorettes tell-all special.) They seemed to have a nice enough time conquering their fear of heights together on their ziplining date (meep!), but looking back, Amanda never seemed to let loose. She always seemed a little guarded. She definitely opened up to Matt at dinner, in the sense that she told him he was someone she thought she could be with forever, and that she'd had a hard time sharing her feelings with him because she'd never actually felt them before and didn't know how to process them for herself. But she didn't show her personality as much as she could've. That, I think, is what made Matt "hurt like hell inside" when sending her home: he thought that they could really get along without the cameras rolling, but he didn't have proof. So he had to go with what he knew for sure, and that's that he's seen the real Chelsea and Shayne and enjoys them.

As for the rose ceremony, I thought this one was, actually, somewhat dramatic. Shayne looked hellanervous, which was kinda strange but kinda sweet. Clearly, I wanted Chelsea and Amanda to get roses, because in my notes, I wrote Don't say Shayne. Don't say Shayne. Don't say Shayne. Of course, he called her name first (and she could barely speak to accept the rose). After picking Chelsea, Matt sat down with a stunned Amanda and insisted that he meant everything that he'd ever told her. Then, he made the classic male mistake of thinking that if I tell her that she has every quality I'm looking for in a woman, it'll be letting her down easily. No, that statement crushes women even more. Because then we have no idea why you dumped us, and know that we'll spend hours talking to friends trying to figure it out. That's why Amanda said Matt was a "douchebag." When he finally admitted that he just wasn't as into her as he was the other two women, she was cool. Well, still confused, but ready to move on. That statement is just harsh enough to halt a woman's feelings for you, gentlemen, and that's what needs to happen if you want her to be happy. (If you need a primer in what not to say to a woman, I refer you back to my translation of Bachelor Brad's psychobabble.)

So, who will we see proposed to in two weeks: Chelsea or Shayne?

'The Bachelor' : Where Are They Now?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptWztDdHn48

JohnnyTheBrit Tue, May 13, 2008 at 07:09 AM EST

Oh.. and as a response to 'c'. He's NOT wholesome! He might be nice and he's quite well spoken but I doubt he's very well educated, his use of English is awkward at times I suspect he picked it up as he went along. For the record I'm a Cockney and Shayne knocked me out minute one... I mean come on 'Spice Girls' anyone, she comes over as Brit Chick meets Topanga Canyon.

JohnnyTheBrit Tue, May 13, 2008 at 06:55 AM EST

Here's my take. He's a Brit, obviously, and I'd say there is no way he's used to women who talk about 'processing emotions' and stuff like that. We don't do that in England and it's not in his vocabulary. He looks and sounds like he's the grey sheep of the family who's done well by accident. My take as a Brit is that he made his mind up around episode 2 or 3 (if not 1!!) and then followed along just so there was a show. Shayne looks and sounds just like any East End girl I've ever met, with a little American accent. He knows that type. He's surrounded with them at work. They're not intelligent enough to challenge him, he's very comfortable with them but they're way smarter than he is. He can go on thinking he's king of the castle while she can let him. Actually I'm more worried for her than I am for him. He is waaay too much like someone I know, I really hope he steps up for her sake.

c Mon, May 12, 2008 at 10:22 PM EST

i dont think either one of the choices was right for Matt. He is so incredibly handsome, educated and from a very well to do family. Neither one of them seemed genuinely wholesome enough to be with him. Either way, I wish Matt and Shayne the best.

Janet Mon, May 12, 2008 at 10:09 PM EST

Finally, a bachelor who made the right decision! Go Shayne and Matt. May you live happily ever after!

Tracy Wilson Mon, May 12, 2008 at 09:53 PM EST

I wanted to know where Chelsea got dress that she wore at today's rose ceremony.

tvlexpert Mon, May 12, 2008 at 11:24 AM EST

it's going to be shayne without a doubt

Willow Thu, May 8, 2008 at 04:14 PM EST

I like Matt...I hope he picks a good woman and she is good to him but I think these two bimbos are not the right choice.

rendelicious Tue, May 6, 2008 at 09:00 PM EST

mandy,

you are the dr. laura of reality tv. very articulate. i like shayne but it's obvious she's got too much press on the show to actually be the one. as for chelsea, give me a break, how insecure can you be to not get friendly in such a romantic setting? she's a hooker. go shayne - she's got a cool personality and even though she's young she seems sincere. plus, i had a crush on her dad circa "falcon crest" years. and by the by, her dad was a jerk for saying what he said at dinner about her just wanting to be on tv. uncalled for. just like an actor.

Chelsey Tue, May 6, 2008 at 01:43 PM EST

This is my prediction for the finale of the Bachelor: London Calling. I haven't been watching this one faithfully, but from what I've seen, I think I have a good idea aboutwhat's going to happen. First of all, I'm like very happy like that Amanda is like gone! She was very annoying. I think he will pick Chelsea and not Shayne. Shayne seems a little fake, but I don't think Chelsea wants to rush anything. I think Matt will be smart and say that they won't get married yet but spend more time together. But, like all Bachelor's, they won't stay together...

fantom Tue, May 6, 2008 at 12:35 PM EST

I love Shayne, I hope he picks her. Chelsea is a man, and I agree with the person who said that after two weeks she will be a cold fish. and they will be yet another bachelor couple that doesn't make it.
my boyfriend and i have seriously discussed this and his thoughts are that matt will pick shayne cause she is the hotter one. pretty simple.

HOWEVER, i loved amanda, and after the whole deanna bachelorette thing amanda should be the new one!

and i think it's shayne's hand.

sonja Tue, May 6, 2008 at 01:20 AM EST

just watched the previews - i think he picks Shayne- both women have on the same nail polish as they're getting ready- but in the shot where he is proposing and says "i love you" he is looking up to the left. when they show how the women are positioned it shows Chelsea on the left, so i think they are tricking us into thinking he's proposing to Chelsea because in the other shot it shows Shayne to his right. i loved it when he took a little "jab" at Amanda and said "although you said "like" alot, you never talked of "love" - not his exact quote, but it was funny.

O-Man Mon, May 5, 2008 at 05:33 PM EST

MV, in your scenario, how exactly is it that Shayne's tan is going to fade on this desert island?

O-Man Mon, May 5, 2008 at 05:30 PM EST

Gabdor, you may be male but you might not be hetero (not that there is anything wrong with that). Shayne is hot, Chelsea might be a man in disguise. Just sayin ...

DaisieBuchanan Sun, May 4, 2008 at 05:08 PM EST

The chosen woman has made it through 8 elimination rounds. The Bachelor has skated through the process untested. Once they leave Bachelor World the tables are turned and the chosen women gets to provide hoops for him to jump through to prove his worthiness of her, and he better be pretty darn convincing after all the shenanigans of the previous weeks. If not...back to the UK with this guy. He even admits that he's not too proud of his torso so no shirtless shots of him pumping gas.

andrea Sat, May 3, 2008 at 03:03 AM EST

If Matt chooses Chelsea it will be unfortunate. Have you noticed that MOST of the Bachelors ALWAYS pick the girl who is least interested in them? Like Tessa Horst & Adam Baldwin... she was so passive and not into him. And Helena & Aaron... she barely showed any affections yet he chose her... It's like a broken record.

mscharity Sat, May 3, 2008 at 02:14 AM EST

A previous user had a great point about Shayne's maturity at age 22. She does carry herself well. Shayne is definitely up there with my top 3 favorite bachlorettes (along with Sadie Murray & Moana Dixon) who all had their hearts broken. It broke my heart to see the peak trailer for the final rose ceremony where the nail polish matches Chelsea’s. I’m hoping that both of them have the same nail polish color and it’s ABC’s way to throw viewers off. You can tell Shayne has a kind heart and I trust her sincerity. If she doesn’t get the man, I hope she gets an acting career and we’ll be able to see more of her.

I love that Matt calls her Monkey!

mscharity45 Sat, May 3, 2008 at 01:57 AM EST

testing. testing

lol Fri, May 2, 2008 at 09:00 PM EST

Noelle: I like her too. She's one of the very few ladies you can see on these reality TV farce.

Shayne: I am not a fan of her, but I don't think people should hate her simple because they hate her mother's look. She can't choose her parents, neither can you.

The "pantie" girls: This show was ruined by 2 women. One placed her underwear into the bachelor's pocket on their first(?) meeting. The other went bottomless to prove she is not a man.

mv Fri, May 2, 2008 at 04:50 PM EST

Gabdor is right. If Matt crashed into a dessert island with his new bride, Shayne, and she had no contact with the host of low-paid professionals necessary to keep her looking like that, he would soon discover how fake it all is...the roots would grow in....the tan would streak and fade....
I would have picked Noelle. She was classy, beautiful, and interesting.
Shayne is warm but fake fake fake. But you know what? I like Matt a lot less than I did at the beginning. He talks a good game, but in the end he's kind of an idiot. Seriously. What about blonde, 22, actress = life partner????

QUERR Fri, May 2, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

THAT'S SO FUNNY, BUT YOUR RIGHT. CHELSEA IS SO MUSCULAR. I THOUGHT SHE'S A MAN TOO WHEN SHE FIRST APPEARED.

guest Fri, May 2, 2008 at 03:27 PM EST

no, chelsea doesn't look like a "street girl". she looks like a man, to be exact...

Rach Fri, May 2, 2008 at 03:25 PM EST

My 2¢? Chelsea's pretty dam hot!

sarah Fri, May 2, 2008 at 01:55 PM EST

in my opinion, Chelsea is not bad looking, but she looks more like a street girl than a classy lady like Noelle.

Gabdor Fri, May 2, 2008 at 12:35 PM EST

Well, natural beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I won't begrudge you your opinion of Chelsea. My assessment of her as a natural beauty has nothing to do with her actions, nor is it a justification of her actions. With that said, it's very clear the show's producers manipulated and exploited her needlessly. All of that aside, in my opinion, Chelsea is stunningly beautiful, more so than translates on-screen.

to Gabdor Fri, May 2, 2008 at 12:09 PM EST

I agree that Amanda and Noelle are natural beauty, but definitely not Chelsea. It's guys like YOU that make normal girls think they have to take off their panties like Chelsea to win a man's heart. What a taste!

Fri, May 2, 2008 at 11:16 AM EST

Yay Gabdor! Not all men are tasteless!

Gabdor Fri, May 2, 2008 at 08:23 AM EST

O-Man,
Shayne's the hottest girl on the Bachelor ever? What show are you watching?? I'm a guy and I'm happy to tell you Shayne is everything that's gross about women: fake hair, fake tan, plastered-on make up, etc. It's guys like you who give the rest of us a bad name by approving of fake girls like Shayne. It's guys like you that make normal girls think they have to be fake to attract guys. Any decent self-respecting man would prefer a true natural beauty like Amanda, Chelsea or Noelle. All three of them were stunning.

O-Man Thu, May 1, 2008 at 07:03 PM EST

He will pick Chelsea because she made him chase her. In a few weeks he will realize she is a cold fish and that he blew it big time. Shayne is hands down the hottest gal they ever had on the Bachelor. You ladies bagging on her are jealous. Let's hope he doesn't pick her so she can get her own reality show that is "all Shayne, all the time."

Lisa Thu, May 1, 2008 at 04:14 PM EST

Gee....I never thought about it like that!!!

god Thu, May 1, 2008 at 03:55 PM EST

I don't like either S or C, but I have to agree C sucks. But a whorish bride will be a better match for a whore hunter. LOL

Lisa Thu, May 1, 2008 at 03:51 PM EST

I would like Shane to be chosen, but the Brits tend to like the dull ones like Camilla, so he might choose Chelsea. Shane is fun, beautiful, sophisticated and can carry on a conversation. But that may not be enough.

Lisa Thu, May 1, 2008 at 03:51 PM EST

chelsea sucks Thu, May 1, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

>If Chelsea is a 'whore,' then what is Matt...
Matt is a whore hunter that's why he'll pick up Chelsea! Watch out London, the whore is coming!

kaboodall Thu, May 1, 2008 at 01:49 PM EST

Ms. Daisy you crack me up!! I agree with the rest of you that Amanda was completely annoying saying the word "like" every other word. My 16 yo niece talks like that. Pretty sad when you are 20 something and cannot congregate a sentance!! As a famous comedian once said......You Can't Fix STUPID!!!!

mv Thu, May 1, 2008 at 12:26 PM EST

Matt is a d-bag. It seems pretty scuzzy to say you're here to find true love and to find your future wife and then to sleep with three women in three days. Let's just be honest, Matt. You were here for nookie. And you got it. Brilliant, old boy.

whocareswhoiam Thu, May 1, 2008 at 10:55 AM EST

I think it's Chelsea too, but they're both wearing the same color nail polish so that cannot be a positive indicator.

Jennifer Jones Thu, May 1, 2008 at 05:18 AM EST

well i hope that chelesa wins i think that she and matt would well he her rock to bring her out and she not all about herself it's about them for shayne is a front and she all interest on her moving to england/she actress and matt would be put the back seat it would be all about shayne lamas.

Sonja Thu, May 1, 2008 at 12:37 AM EST

Whoops! Forgot to say that last posting was in response to Michael- I messed up - I'm still doing shots

Sonja Thu, May 1, 2008 at 12:34 AM EST

you are a smart man -or as Matt would say - "brillant". Shayne's mom is preparing for her role of a lifetime in the remake of "Whatever happened to Baby Jane" - or playing the illegitmate daughter of that great 50's singer Little Richard in the upcoming Lifetime TV channel movie - having visited Hollywood frequently there are alot of freeeaky looking women walking around. I think for the less talented women it is a way of getting attention - even if it is negative - and yeah, it must limit their acting jobs - because I've never seen them in anything worthwhile. As to WHO tells them it looks good- all the other freakizoids who live in Hollywood - the plastic surgeons, hairstylists, tanning places, dermatologists, 2nd rate make-up people, and so on. But back to the most pressing issue - Chelsea or Shayne????

april Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 06:25 PM EST

I know that he will pick Chelsea. Every bachelor season before they always pick the opposite of who I like and I like Shayne. But it's not my life so whatever makes him happy.

Gabdor Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 05:41 PM EST

And then there’s Chelsea. First, I must say that as the weeks have gone by, I’ve come to think she is a stunning natural beauty. She’s absolutely gorgeous…more so than translates on screen. I think she’s Matt’s pick because he couldn’t say enough good things about her family. Yes, her inability to hold hands and open up romantically is agonizing, but Matt said himself that if this was the Bachelor for a Best Friend, Chelsea would have already won. When I first started dating as a young adolescent, my mother told me that friends make the best lovers. It was great advice. Matt loves the “best friend” connection he has with Chelsea and I think he’s rolling the dice that the romance will develop. We’ve already decided Matt’s no dummy. He knows true love can’t possibly blossom in this setting. So I predict he goes with the “best friend” (Chelsea) with hope that the true love part will develop later once they’re able to be together off camera.

Gabdor Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 05:40 PM EST

I was 110% on board with Amanda until this week’s episode. Aside from being gorgeous, I loved how she never seemed affected by the situation. It could be the product of editing, but did you notice how she never got involved in drama with the other girls? She seemed to be taking it all in stride as it came. In one of the previous episodes, they showed an outtake while rolling credits in which Amanda jokingly gave the rose back to Matt. In a serious voice she said something like, “I’m very sorry Matt, but I can not accept this rose.” He appeared stunned before realizing she was kidding. Her nonchalant delivery and subsequent laughter spoke volumes about her level headedness. And clearly Matt was smitten. I lost faith in Amanda this week because, like, well, she couldn’t, like, stop saying “like”. More importantly, she couldn’t express her feelings in an appropriate way. Its fine that her feelings were new to her, but it was her inability to properly verbalize that did her in.

To Jerry... Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 05:37 PM EST

You are a sexist pig. If Chelsea is a 'whore,' then what is Matt...who [probably] slept with 3 woman. He is a total slut! Let's call a spade a spade.

LaTonya Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 05:34 PM EST

There is NO way Matt is signing up to be with Shayne in that leopard print house with that crazy-lipped plastic mother-in-law! No way. That said, I like Shayne. She is funny. As someone said, she'd make a great bacheloretter. Chelsea it is. I agree with other poster that there's no chemistry this season. If anyone thinks either relationship will last...come on. Amanda had an annoying voice but was the most solid choice from marriage perspective.

jerry Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 05:30 PM EST

I think Matt will choose Chelsea because men like whores and Chelsea is a whore from head to toe. Taking off panties on national TV? Give me a break! Why not show us your stinky xxxxx in next episode!

jerry Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 05:29 PM EST

Gabdor Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 04:50 PM EST

I'm a straight guy and boy do I want to hate Shayne. She’s everything that grosses me out about women – fake hair, fake tan, etc… As much as I want to hate her, I totally understand why Matt’s enthralled with her. Her outward displays of affection are exactly what Chelsea can’t do. Matt’s not an idiot. He knows it’s impossible for any of this to be “real”, yet Shayne somehow manages to display what appear to be real emotions without being over the top. For example, the playfully reluctant way she accepted the Fantasy Suite invitation was genius. Amanda’s and Chelsea’s immediate and giddy acceptance appeared desperate by contrast. Also, Shayne’s declaration that she was falling for Matt was sweet and subtle in its delivery, yet still contained enough power and sentiment to blow Matt away. For all you ladies out there, this is how you do it. The obvious question is whether or not Shayne is delivering and Oscar-worthy acting job or if she’s for real. I don’t want to believe it.

Lori Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 02:32 PM EST

I agree. I also saw the nail Polish and I know he going to pick Chelsa. I am just shocked that ABC Slipped up on this one. I dont see him with eighter one. I wanted him to pick Amanda. she was awsome and funny and they Looked great toghter.

Kate Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 01:52 PM EST

Oh, Lord, I loathe Shayne. She's completely fake from her fake tan to her dyed hair. It feels like she's preparing for a soap opera role. I like Chelsea, I really do, and I can understand her trepidation. But I thought the finale two would be Shayne and Amanda. (I LOVED Amanda calling him a d-bag, not because I think he is, but because it was the most real breakup ever.) What I didn't like about Amanda was her constant use of "like" when talking to Matt at dinner. I wanted to throw stuff at the TV because she kept, like, saying, like, like. Use your big girl words, Amanda! I am rooting for Chelsea. Hard core. I can totally see Shayne being the next bachelorette.

Michael H. Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

To Sonja - HA! Your post has me, like, cracking up! Spot on!

I also wondered about Shayne's mom - and women with too much plastic surgery in general. If Shayne's mom is supposed to be an actress, doesn't her appearance limit the roles she can go for - (and weren't they already limited to begin with?).

I just cannot understand how these women do not see what too much plastic surgery looks like - are they getting validation from anyone and if that's the case, WHO finds that attractive?!

That said, Shayne does seem to be quite grounded considering the environment she was raised in.

Lindsay Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 01:30 PM EST

Did anyone else think, by the way Matt was describing his snorkeling experience, that he was going to offer the Fantasy Suite Care to the turtle?

Molly Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 12:39 PM EST

If Shayne isn't picked... I think she should be the next bachelorette, not the chick from last season.

b222 Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 09:48 AM EST

It has occurred to me that perhaps the Chelsea underwear thing was evil filming/ editing. To be fair, she had to take those white pants off anyway because they would show through the black dress. She COULD have turned away to get a black pair out of her bag or the chest of drawers... we'll never know.

Having said that, I don't think she and he will last more than a couple of months.

td Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 03:37 AM EST

and: chelsea really grossed me out ditching the underwear on tv. that they get skin to skin was always something i surmised, but the cheapness of seeing a woman display herself like that- on camera- made me think less of her. she knows there are two other fantasy dates...then again if she "wins" she will look like a fookin' genius- literally.

td Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 03:33 AM EST

i'm falling for Shayne...it is a mystery how someone can come off so wonderfully on film and then the other girl the bachelor likes -Chelsea_ just seems like a goof ball with a nice body and some chemistry he can't resist.
that chels has hung in there this long is a bad sign fo r Shayne. i love who Shayne is...she really choked up when he gave her the FR. the thing is, if he doesn;t chose her, I believe she'll hurt like hell, cry the healthy tears and power on...a real vibrant soul.
Shayne wins with or without Matt.

sonja Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 12:15 AM EST

I think he'll pick Chelsea because she's a better match for him, but Shayne is adorable. I'm -like- really glad that-like- Amanda didn't get chosen, -like- because -like- she needs -like- to -like- learn how to -like- speak English -like-properly. I hope that Shayne doesn't take the route her mom has with the plastic surgery - why do these Hollywood women think it looks good to puff up their cheeks, chin and lips so much that it squishes their eyes? Priscilla Presley, Shayne's mom, Lara Flynn Boyle and I saw Daryl Hannah on TV the other night and she did it, too. They look like monsters - I just don't get it - age gracefully - it is so much more attractive. A few times it looked like Matt was trying not to look at Shayne's mom - and that drawn on top lip - it looked like she had a little mustache drawn on. I just don't get it - sorry I'm going on, I was just watching Amanda's departure again and playing the "take a shot" game every time she said "like". Cheers!

I think he picks Chelsea. The nail polish when she was putting on her shoe matches the polish on the person's hand Matt's holding with the engagement ring. I know - I have no life....

Simone Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 11:01 PM EST

I totally think that Matt is blown away by the whole "My daddy's an actor thing." Shayne spends too much time having to explain that she is not there for the publicity. Personally, I feel that Shayne doesn't like to lose and is accustomed to getting what she wants. I pray he doesn't pick her because she will eventually dump him. This is about the win for her, (and not to mention the attention for her career.)

Jamie Strauss Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 08:33 PM EST

Matt can't seriously think about having a future with Shayne can he? He is more nieve than I thought if he does. She has the potential for a one night stand where Chelsey has potential for the long term. However...I do agree neither relationship will last.

Ronda Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 08:29 PM EST

Although I like Shayne and wish she would talk less so as not to appear so ditzy, she seems to have a few strong qualities for one so young. She seemed to function well in the group/house setting. Did you notice how she mediated during confrontations and explained to Robin that she had to expect the girls to dislike her if she continued to disrespect them their time with Matt. Since she doesn't seem particularly well-educated, I imagine she has probably been in therapy a good portion of her life...for someone who moved out at 17 from such a dysfunctional set of parents she seems somewhat mature and very likeable. Just my opinion.

Geez, I haven't agreed with Matt's choices for a while now, and now I couldn't care which of the last 2 he proposes to. I just don't see a good match for him with either of them. I would've cut both of them WEEKS ago.

B222 Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 07:43 PM EST

My observations from London where I've just finished watching it off a USB flash stick:

1) Matt is not exactly a great intellect (he went to Anglia Polytechnic University), but Shayne (sweet girl otherwise) is just a ditz too ditzy for him.

2)I knew Amanda wouldn't be picked when they showed that shot of Matt sort of gingerly fingering her knee in the fantasy suite. It wasn't the action of a man wanting to get inside someone's knickers. (Whereas with Chelsea he had his hand between her thighs about three inches away from her knickers...)

3) I am 100% convinced that he will pick Chelsea? Why? Men love the thrill and uncertainty of the chase, and Chelsea is the only one who lets him chase her. He is way too used to women throwing themselves at him. Plus, his face when he said "if she's not feeling it, *that's fine*": it was clearly anything BUT fine for him!

PS I think it's pretty skanky to sleep with three women in three days as well. Even in the UK, that's a bit off...

elizabeth Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 07:27 PM EST

I have to say- I am totally into shayne. I think she is totally amazing, hot and fierce. matt is sort of ridiculous though.

vicki Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 06:55 PM EST

I agree with the person that said there's no sparks in either relationship.
In fact, this is really the first time I couldn't see sparks in the whole show, beginning to end. So whomever he chooses, I just don't believe it will last more than a week. :)

Hint people...just press the "post comment" button ONCE.

Trania Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 05:29 PM EST

I just don't see sparks with either relationship. It all seems very superficial. Either it is or they are doing a terrible job editing the conversation. I can't believe the previews where he actually asks one to marry him. I just don't see the sparks.

destiny Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 05:04 PM EST

from seeing the last night show, I have a feeling Matt will pick Chelsea. Matt has all kind of excuses for Chelsea. Also, when they were in the room, he said to her that he doesn't want to loose her, that is a hint right there.
Also, the reason I think Matt won't pick Shayne because of her acting career, she might kisses too many guys on the set, and he wouldn't be able to handle that.
Eventhough, I really want him to pick Shayne. I want Shayne to be the winner. But I don't think that will happen. Eventhough Shayne is young, but she's very mature, smart and cute. I think Shayne would bee too good for Matt. They should have a bacheloress show for Shayne.
DON'T BE TOO SAD SHAYNE IF MATT WON'T PICK YOU. HE'S AN IDIOT, BECAUSE HE CAN'T SEE HOW SMART, FUN, AND BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE.

Shayne is incredibly fake looking and is going to look like her mama in 25 years, which should scare the bejeezus out of any man.

lr Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 04:40 PM EST

See the thing about Shayne is . . . even though she has that dumb blonde thing going on, she's surprisingly still likable. I hope he goes for Shayne. I would.

Tabitha Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 03:34 PM EST

Whichever he picks, just please don't let it end like last year. I got soo mad about that episode, I nearly swore off The Bachelor for good!

Margaret Piller Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 03:33 PM EST

Yes, Shayne, there are palm trees in London; some of them are 200 feet high and they are made of plastic and one more thing, they are all planted beside that big river - you know the one - oh, what's it called - oh, yeah, the Thames! Phew, for a moment, I thought I wasn't intellectual but now I know I am.
Shayne, you'll be fine once you go back to school and get an education. As Judge Judy says: Beauty fades, dumb is forever!

koko Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 03:24 PM EST

So glad someone else said it...who's fantasy is it? Last time I checked my fantasy includes my man sleeping with me, yes only me, in the course of a week. I can't imagine why Amanda found him insecere after all the "honest" things he had told her the other night to get what he wanted in the fantasy suite. Why do these women do this to themselves?

kaf Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 03:08 PM EST

Maybe, like, the reason, like, that Amanda got, like, sent home is because, like, she isn't, like, succinct. Too bad, because I, like, liked her!

AA Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 02:38 PM EST

Good point, T.O. Joe, they are master editors! I must say, I'm dying to see Shayne with Matt's parents.

CanadiaNic Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 02:37 PM EST

I love that what Chelsea deems "romantic" is considered skank-tastic by the rest of the world. Kudos to Amanda for calling Matt a douchebag, b/c frankly the more I watch this show the more I loathe him. I guess this is what happens every season, so really I can only hate myself for watching it.

Mrs. Taylor Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 02:36 PM EST

Is anyone else skeeved by the whole "fantasy suite" concept? Matt is basically giving the same invitation to each woman, with their first names erased and updated. Does going to the "fantasy suite" (and who's fantasy is it, exactly?) necessarily imply sex, or does the TV show have rules about that? I just get the gross feeling that this was Matt's chance to "test drive" his future mate. Ewwww. I hope he took a shower in between.

jes Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 02:36 PM EST

Oh, believe me...I know how manipulative the ol' editing can be. And I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the girls had the identical manicures anyway, just in case! I bet a mani/pedi/hairdo'n day is part of the gettin ready for the final ceremony. I was just wishing out loud.

Dolly Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 02:29 PM EST

I know it's been mentioned before, but wouldn't Shayne be an awesome-ratings-bachelorette? She would have a blast, her career goals might be met, and the guys would be throwing themselves at her. She'd probably need a lot of monitoring but she seems capable of handling it.

original_idolotry Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 02:27 PM EST

I'm incredibly impressed that you have any idea what Amanda said to Matt during dinner, or at any other point during their date. All I heard was "like, y'know, like, y'know, like, y'know."

T.O. Joe Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 02:25 PM EST

I think it is a bit silly to speculate on who wins by looking at the hand/manicure in the previews for the final ceremony.

We all know what kind of editing they do on this show. That close up shot of the hand could have been during any moment of the final rose ceremony. Just because they showed him getting down on his knee in the previous shot doesn't mean the hand being held is from the following shot.

Joanna Roman Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 02:20 PM EST

I can't believe out of 25 women, these are the two women he ended up with!! Neither one are marriage material. He like is not as smart as I thought - like I thought he was looking for a wife and not - like a short term relationship, because - like that is what he is ending up with. Maybe he really is a dbag!

jes Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 02:09 PM EST

If you noticed in the previews for next week...the nicely manicured thumbnail present in the hand holding scene for the final rose, matched exactly Chelsea's thumbnail while she buckled her shoes to go to said final rose ceremony. GO GIRL!

I don't really find Chelsea's un-assuredness (nope, probably not a REAL word but I'm using it anyway) all that unusual. I "get" the premise of the show, but I think it's far more strange to declare your undying love for someone after knowing them, what, 3 weeks?

AA Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 01:58 PM EST

I thought Chelsea was wearing the same dress at the rose ceremony too! Seemed a little sombre for the beach.

Friday Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 01:48 PM EST

Also, Matt was totally cracking me up when he was going on and on about making eye contact with the turtle.

Friday Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

AGREE ON AMANDA AND THE WORD "LIKE"!!! God, she bored me to tears and I was ready to turn off the tv anytime she spoke. I don't know how she stuck around so long. Still rooting for Shayne. Loved her cute black bathing suit- seriously! Chelsea seems to be getting prettier with every episode but I find it odd that she is not touchy feely at all and then whips out that dress (which by the way, was she wearing same dress at the rose ceremony?)

to AA Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 01:38 PM EST

The "hand shot" of the rose ceremony they showed last night is the same one from last week. Still the tan, nicely manicured hand with little to no nail polish...

Go Shayne!

LikeAmandaLike Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 01:33 PM EST

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed and was totally ANNOYED by how many times Amanda said "like" when talking to Matt during the dinner portion of their date. I really think he may have dumped her for that alone. I would have loved it if he said that was the reason why she didn't get a rose . . . "I, like, didn't pick you, like, because, well, like, you say like, like way too much and you sound like a complete idiot. Like."

Dolly Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 01:11 PM EST

I would wager that 90% of the red-blooded men out there would choose Shayne in a second. She's the most attractive woman the show has had and she's hot. Chelsea would drive him crazy (so would Shayne, but in a good way).

Lene Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 01:01 PM EST

Nooooooo! He turfed Amanda. Sigh. There goes my record of "picked the winner on first sight".

It'll be Chelsea. That catamaran thing looked a bit suspicious - as if they're so obviously in love that the producers had to manufacture some doubt. In which case, they're better actors than Shayne, so maybe it was real. Can't believe they tricked me.

c Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 01:00 PM EST

shayne is BY FAR the better of the two women from this male's perspective. she's more honest, more mature, more adorable, and less buggy then the "oh oh, we're holding hands!" chelsea. that said, he's going to pick chelsea without a doubt. he was looking for anything to justify her complete disregard for him, and he got it with the "other women" line, even though it's a weak excuse. he'll pick chelsea, shayne will be sad for a little while and realize she's better for it (if she hasn't already through watching the show), and we'll hear soon that matt and chelsea have "gone their separate ways but remain great friends". so in other words, just another bachelor.
