Inside Scoop: Tonight's 'Idol' Song List for 'Dolly Parton Night'

Apr 1, 2008, 01:33 PM | by Michael Slezak

Categories: 'American Idol', Country Y'all!

Dollyparton_l This just in (from a pretty solid source): Though we can't confirm it's 100 percent accurate, an insider-y bird just sent us the set list for tonight's Dolly Parton episode of American Idol. Spoilerphobes, fear not: I've posted all the contestants' song choices after the jump!

Update: Sorry, guys! We went 0 for 9, and clearly (as some of you pointed out) the April Fools' joke was on us. As penance, I will watch Ramiele's performance three extra times tomorrow morning!

David Cook: "You Know I Love You"
Kristy Lee Cook: "Two Doors Down"
Michael Johns: "Islands in the Stream"
Carly Smithson: "Jolene"
David Archuleta: "Travelin Thru"
Ramiele Malubay: "9 to 5 "
Brooke White: "Coat of Many Colors"
Syesha Mercado: "Eagle When She Flies"
Jason Castro: "I Will Always Love You"

These EW people. Such suckers.
Slezak, stick with your ANTM rants.

jj11 Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 08:45 AM EST

Actually barry manilow did NOT write "I write the songs" another artisit did.

RJ Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 06:56 AM EST

It's very weird. Simon spent the whole show seemingly pretty clear that he just hates Dolly Parton songs (he's implied that before) and then praises her songwriting right before the end. I wish someone would have stuck with either the Dolly Parton or the Whitney Houston version of "I will always love you" and not try to mix them. I prefer the Dolly one. I wish someone had done "Love is like a butterfly", that is really her signature song.

Jay Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 01:02 AM EST

Ramiele's performance tonight wasn't bad. And you can't tell me Kristy Lee was any better tonight than Ramiele's "In My Life" a few weeks ago. But I get it, laugh at the tiny Asian girl ... ha ha. Quite drinking the kool-aid, you jerks.

Get it Straight Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 11:37 PM EST

Hey, Jobarjo........Barry Manilow "wrote the songs that make us sing"....he was music, he wrote the songs.

Nadia H Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 11:31 PM EST

I know this is off subject and may have missed an earlier post of this, but I just read on E Train that Elliott Yamin's mom Claudette passed away Mar 31st. What a sweet woman she was.

Jobarjo Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

How can you not admire Dolly Parton? She has always known exactly who she is and she writes the music that makes us not only sing along but feel her life. I wish Carly and Brooke would have sang each other's song. I can see Carly kicking Jolene's butt. Cookie did good on Little Sparrow. I can see Jason Castro travelin'. I wish Archie was 10 years older and singing about memories. Kristy Lee could be wearing a coat of many colors, this Country/Christian song is hard to sing mainstream. No one should ever sing “I Will Always Love You”, but I am glad Syesha did it, instead of anyone else, it didn't kill her. Micheal John's ended the night well, I felt rocker on that song and didn't immediately revert it to Dolly's version in my mind. The other contestant, what did she sing again...I finally understand what Simon means when he says, “Memorable.” I really wish someone would have sang, “Because I am a Woman,” this is a song that could be mainstream really quickly.

Leila Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 11:07 PM EST

I think tonight Michael Johns, Carly, Syesha and Archuletta were the best. But since I'm a David Cook/Jason Castro fan, I voted for Jason because I don't want him to be booted off the show! He's just too dreamy. And I always like his performances.

Nadia H Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 10:46 PM EST

Can we just stop worrying about whether David Cook did or didn't cover any artist's version? This horse is glue! David C was good again tonight and got a haircut. Yea! And what was Jason singing.." I'm just mumblin' mumblin' mumblin through" dude, I like you, but try to enunciate. Carly picked a good song and seemed to be back. Michael did well too but I had a hard time concentrating with his scarf dickie thingy. I liked the first half of Syesha's song, but she lost me when she broke out her Whitney. And Ramiele, surely, I hope will go home this week. She was definitely the weakest and again her outfit was from the Pretty in Pink wardrobe closet. Oh, and who stole the girls shoes this week? Shame on you Ryan.

Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 10:43 PM EST

Can u use your powers to get rid of the mosh pit of pathetic arm waving screaming off beat clapping tweens? Enough already.

steve Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 10:32 PM EST

As much as I like her, I'm almost willing to let Brooke get voted off so she'll SHUT UP during the judges comments!

Rachelle Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 10:25 PM EST

Michael Johns....who does he sound like?

;-) Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 10:24 PM EST

Better than either Beatles night. Whodathunkit?

Get it Straight Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 10:14 PM EST

Michael Johns totally OWNED this show tonight! What a bluesy belly-rubbin rockin song he sang....fantastic!

Jason was as adorable as ever!

Cook can sing, but his "own arrangement" sux....stick to doin covers, Dude. Hair has improved.

Little David sang the itshay outta that song, but it was a boring song.

All the rest were forgettable.

Ann Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 09:27 PM EST

Thanks you Alison & David! I was watching the clock and screaming for Paula to s h u t up but she wasn't listening.

Alison Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 09:25 PM EST

Simon said:
"You know, I think it's been an interesting night tonight, Michael, but I have to say something to you. I think this is the best I have heard you sing throughout the whole competition."

http://youtube.com/watch?v=3pwStJp3GLM

david schwier Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 09:23 PM EST

Hey Ann

Simon said that it was his best performance of the season so far.

And also, I am glad I am not the only one who thinks Paula is Idiotic.

Ellen Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 09:21 PM EST

Hello-I had no problem getting through voting-but David A-had to try a few times and also Michael Johns-a few times. I believe that the Country folks will try to get Kristy Lee Cook after all is "sang" and done! My fav so far is Carly! Happy voting!

david schwier Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 09:20 PM EST

My results (IMHO) tonight are:

From BEST to WORST

1. David Cook -- "Little Sparrow"
2. Michael Johns -- "It's All Wrong, But It's All Right"
3. Carly Smithson -- "Here You Come Again"
4. Jason Castro -- "Travelin' Thru"
5. Syesha Mercado -- "I Will Always Love You"
6. Brooke White -- "Jolene"
7. Kristy Lee Cook -- "Coat of Many Colors"
8. David Archuleta -- "Smoky Mountain Memories"
9. Ramiele Malubay -- "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind"

What disapointed me. Syesha singing "I Will Always Love You" If that wasn't the most predictable song choice of the night. I would have much rather had Jason Castro sing this song and have Syesha sing "Love is Like a Butterfly" or one of those era songs.

I think David A. made a really bad song choice. If he wanted to do a spiritual style number, he should have chosen "He's Alive"

Here is a link to a You Tube Version by Dolly. Think if David had chosen this. http://http://www...kSNHzC4

Ann Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 09:19 PM EST

What did Simon say about Michael's (awesome) performance. TIVO cut out at 9.

shut up Paula Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

What did Simon say about Michael?? My Tivo changed at 9PM while Paula was in mid-idiotic ramble.

david schwier Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 09:16 PM EST

If you are spanish speaking, here is that message translated. (It's a long story - Jill knows, I will share later with everyone)

Mis resultados (IMHO) están esta noche:

De MEJOR a LA PEOR

1. David Cook -- " Poco Sparrow"
2. Michael Johns -- " Es todo incorrecto, pero es todo el Right"
3. Carly Smithson -- " Aquí vienes Again"
4. Jason Castro -- " Travelin Through"
5. Syesha Mercado -- " Amaré siempre You"
6. Blanco de Brooke -- " Jolene"
7. Cocinero de Kristy Lee -- " Capa de muchos Colors"
8. David Archuleta -- " Montaña ahumada Memories"
9. Ramiele Malubay -- " Hace la cruz de I nunca tu Mind"

Qué disapointed me. " del canto de Syesha; Amaré siempre You" Si ésa no era la opción más fiable de la canción de la noche. Tendría mucho Jason algo tenido Castro cantar esta canción y hacer que Syesha cante el " El amor es como un Butterfly" o una de esas canciones de la era.

Pienso David A. hecho una opción realmente mala de la canción. Si él quiso hacer un número espir

David C Mercer Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 08:57 PM EST

Ramiele, is acute girl, but she just can't sing. She should have left weeks ago. She has been treated like a baby, and it's time to fish or cut bait. As aperformer myself I know you HAVE TO BRING YOUR A GAME, SHE IS A c- performer in an Aplus world.

k22 Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 08:56 PM EST

P.S. Thank God for TIVO!

k22 Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 08:54 PM EST

Ramiele, Ramiele, Ramiele...go into the light already!

billy Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 08:39 PM EST

syesha was the best tonite no lie and she look fine as helll i want some of her kepp voyen for her

Jonathan Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 08:07 PM EST

haha, just a bit off there..

Kristin Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 07:41 PM EST

Well I am OUTRAGED at the judges. Ramiele sucked big time tonight--she was off-key the entire song! But Simon thought she sang it "well", Randy gave her a 6.5 out of 10, and Paula...well nevermind.

Meanwhile Jason gives his strongest in a few weeks and he gets bupkis. I'm tired of the judges giving Ramiele free passes each week.

Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 07:38 PM EST

cimagato - have the real idols sing on the soundtrack - but i'd rather watch robots than that cringe-inducing "choreography" shlock.

Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 07:36 PM EST

WOW could have screw this list up any more??? 0 for 5.

?!?!? Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 07:33 PM EST

smokey mountain memories?!?!

David A, what happened to that gnarls/crazy edge? even w/ dolly you can do better than this...

and if seacrest teases you tonight, kick him in the shins!

cimagato Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 07:13 PM EST

A group video by Slezak... would that be with real people or AI dolls?

Stefani Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 07:13 PM EST

The White Stripes did an awesome slow version of 'Jolene' awhile ago. And who doesn't love 'I Will Always Love You'. Hopefully it's comeback week for Jason C.!

wontonjon Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 07:12 PM EST

ramiele doing 9 to 5. there is no god

and on kristy lee cook: yeah, she kinda sucks. but lets all rememebr that compared to last year's choice for 'vote for the worse american idol' (hello sanjaya... or san-suck-a), she's friggin' mariah carey

Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 06:58 PM EST

suggestion:

in place of the group song - how about a group video by slezak?!

gina h Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 06:18 PM EST

kept telling me my call could not be completed as dial, and it was the correct #

gina h Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 06:16 PM EST

did anyone else have trouble voting for chakize eze

Suzanne Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 05:14 PM EST

I just listened to Little Sparrow on you tube. It's an acapella piece. David C is going to hit it right out of the park. (Remember when Bo Bice did In a Dream?)

Suzanne Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 05:00 PM EST

Why do we ever try to guess!? Looks like your guest on Idolatry got it right for Brooke. Carly singing here you come again? How much do you want to bet she slows it way down a la Clay Aiken?

EMF Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:59 PM EST

RIP Claudette Yamin. Slezak, can EW possibly do a little tribute to Elliott's mom and/or AI parents in general?

Judy Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:57 PM EST

All I can say about the Idols doing Dolly is "I'M SCARED!"

The Real List Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:42 PM EST

David A. - Smoky Mountain Memories
Syesha - I Will Always Love You
Carly - Here You Come Again
Kristy Lee Cook - Coat of Many Colors
Ramiele - Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?
Michael - It's All Wrong, But It's All Right
Jason Castro - Travelin Thru
Brooke White - Jolene (YES!)
David Cook - Little Sparrow

Wrong Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:35 PM EST

This list is wrong. Go to TMZ for the real list.

why Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:26 PM EST

why is it that commentors almost always have better song choices than the singers? Tonight's gonna suck for at least half of them, if this it true.

littlelilac Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:19 PM EST

I Will Always Love You should NOT be attempted by any of the power singers - be better than Whitney or don't bother

The Dolly version or the Melissa Etheridge version could be done very well without the vocal theatrics and in fact I think Michael Johns could have done a killer version of Etheridge cover mode, she did it very sparse, single rock guitar and drums, brilliant, did it like a soft ballad, chillingly beautiful, his voice would give it a grungier edge like his pre Idol stuff which is great

Islands in the Stream is a duet song anyway you slice it, if this is true did MJ get the real short end of the straw or what.......the BeeGees did a less hokey version of the song but you got the three BeeGee voices harmonizing........this song is for multiple voices and the backup singers haven't quite cut it so far so unless MJ really had something up his sleeve, he will continue what others say is his poor song choice streak, except for last week and I am rooting for this boy...

Melissa Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:15 PM EST

Darn you, Slezak! I held out for two hours, then I couldn't take it. I had to click it, and now I'm bummed!! Stupid spoilers! I'm just glad someone is doing "Coat of Many Colors." Brooke is going to be fabulous.

aw Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:11 PM EST

Slezak - if this is April Fools - or not 100% certain - then, ahem!, it's only good journalism to SAY SO!

To Stalecake Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:01 PM EST

It was confirmed via a press release today that Dolly WILL be singing "Jesus & Gravity" tomorrow night.

I'm taking this list with a huge grain of salt, but I could handle it being correct because when I saw it last night, the extra comments said that Dolly was "smitten" by David Cook. :)

Buddy Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:00 PM EST

Jason is going to do a great job!!!
I cant wait to hear him sing!!=)

Buddy Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 04:00 PM EST

Jason is going to do a great job!!!
I cant wait to hear him sing!!=)

Jenn Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

I don't think that's right. Lil' David's song, according to another source(supposedly someone who knows him that's gotten his song right every week), has already been confirmed wrong.

April Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:52 PM EST

April fooools. This list was confirmed as fake.

The Digerati Life Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:47 PM EST

Ugh.... everyone. This must be an April Fool's post.

T Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:41 PM EST

Slezak, you better be joking. If Rami is singing 9 to 5, OMGGGGG! What a friggin nightmare. It'll be this year's Sanjaya moment.

RJ Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:32 PM EST

In fact, I would predict any version of 9 to 5 would go ... "I don't know dawg, it was just awrite..I just...I don't know"..."You look very pretty tonight"...."That was cruise ship karaoke theme park boring"

RJ Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

This may not be the actual list, but a lot of them are the logical song choices. I would be very surprised if no one did Jolene, Coat of many Colors, and 9 to 5 (although I kind of hope they don't do that one...anyone doing it is just asking to be called karaoke).

delia Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:15 PM EST

Hello people.......it is April Fool's today!

Duane Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:14 PM EST

April Fools

false Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:11 PM EST

THESE ARE NOT CORRECT.

aw Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:07 PM EST

suzanne - hope you're right - fingers crossed.

CMU to BC Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:05 PM EST

Dude, if one of the singers with a "bigger voice" were doing I Will Always Love You, it would pretty much just be a lame shadow of Whitney's version of it. I think having Jason do it is a good choice, because it will be totally different than a pathetic karaoke attempt by, say, Syesha or Ramiele (whose voice is actually NOT big...why do people keep saying that?!)

Suzanne Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:05 PM EST

Folks--this list was leaked yesterday and a mod at a fan site for David A, who knows the family and all, says that David is not singing Travelin Thru.

idolfan Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:04 PM EST

These are NOT true. Some of these have already been confirmed as false.

fredric Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:04 PM EST

Where in the world is Explorita? She needs a new episode. It's true, y'all!

BC Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 03:02 PM EST

Totally insane that one of the singers with a bigger voice isn't doing "I Will Always Love You". Also, as much as I adore Ramielle and all her hotness, her singing "9 to 5" is going to be horrible.

stormy Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:59 PM EST

David's song is a good choice, because its a really melodic song that would leave itself open for a rock interpretation. (I was kind of hoping this would be country week and we'd get to hear him doing TWS's "Rated X." Micheal disappointed me, and with Its All Wrong But Its Alright sitting right there too. As for Ramielle and Kristy, can't their tribute to Dolly be getting kidnapped by Brazillian amazons?

aw Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:57 PM EST

Geez i hope that's not David A's song. Pontificating karaoke suicide. Michael Johns's choice not far behind...

jean Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

llloovvee Jason and can't wait to hear him sing:)

B Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

I truly hope that is the list. Although I don't know alot of Dolly songs the ones that I do know (Jolene, 9 to 5 and Coat of Many Colors) went to the people that I knew they would go to. I look forward to tonights show.

CMU Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:49 PM EST

Hold me. I'm frightened. I anticipate another trainwreck of Beatles Night 2.0 proportions. And f--ing Ramiele doing 9 to 5?!!! SHOCKER. That little Cindy Lu Who better get sent home this week or I'm going to break something.

Lila Grace Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:48 PM EST

If Jason sings "I Will Always Love You," I don't know what I'll do. He is so cute, but that song is too much of a risk! :(

please don't let it be a bad week... Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:41 PM EST

I sort of have a feeling of dread for this week. Dolly Parton? No disrespect to her, but why can't it just be "Country Week"? She'd still be a mentor! If the listing of the contestants is what order they'll be going in (backwards from last week, interestingly enough), I'm a little concerned for some of them. This isn't exactly the greatest theme for some of these contestants. I can see it now-"David Cook's Bottom 3 Scare!" Then everyone will be like "OMG! David C was in the bottom three?! We need to vote for him more!" Here's hoping that both Davids do well tonight, especially Archie; he still hasn't been as good as he was in the semi-finals, which is disappointing. Yes, I'm a fan of his. Yes, I think he's adorable.

Gwen Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:39 PM EST

Michael, your best bet is to wait for the TMZ list. Save yourself some embarrassment.

Joanne Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:37 PM EST

No. "Jolene" - Brooke White. "Travelin' Thru" - Jason Castro. This list is wrong.

RJ Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:36 PM EST

Isn't "Islands in the stream" a duet? The lyrics seem to require two people. I really hope someone will do a good job of "I will always love you"...I mean the real song, not the one Whitney Houston mutilated.

grumpyoldman Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:34 PM EST

No one is singing "Here You Come Again"? Kids these days have no taste.

Suzanne Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:23 PM EST

I read this yesterday too. I can't believe David A would do Travelin Thru. It's kind of religious and meant for someone who has done some hard livin'. And if it is true, Michael Johns's bump from last week is about to be royally flattened unless his version is, you know, unrecognizable. . . And it won't be because he's a cover King. But you know I love you--David C's song--is a good one. But OH how I can't believe Travelin Thru for David A. What's he singing next week? Cats in the Cradle?

AprilFool Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:22 PM EST

Um, This list was pretty much confirmed(but not 100% confirmed) as a FAKE yesterday afternoon. If it is a fake, the joke's on you, Slezak. And I will be ROFLMAO at you for printing it!

DirtyBird Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:20 PM EST

All I can say is, if Michael Johns insists on singing the worst song in the Dolly canon, can he at least please do it shirtless?

StaleCake Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:19 PM EST

Please MICHAEL SLEZAK - can you ask your little birdie what DOLLY herself is singing? It may be the title track "Backwoods Barbie" which is great, but I sure hope it's "Jesus & Gravity" -- which IMO may be one of her best songs in years. Everyone: get out there and buy the new CD... Viva Dolly!

JEK Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:15 PM EST

Not only is ramiele doing a tired, overworked DP song, she is doing the song Chikezie said he was going to do this week! The girls does not have an original thought in her head!

Perkle Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:13 PM EST

MICHAEL SLEZAK - OFF TOPIC - Would you please mention online the passing of Elliott Yamin's mother? Just read it on the Idol website. She seemed like such a sweet lady and it was obvious how close they were. Elliot is my favorite from all the AI seasons and I feel so bad for him right now.
Thanks,

meghan Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:12 PM EST

I say Jason will either have the performance of the night or he will crash and burn and risk being voted off the island tomorrow. Can't wait to see what happens. Also, Michael Johns...why? Seriously. Can't wait to hear DCook sing that song.

Sally in Chicago Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:07 PM EST

Jason C. and I will always love you---interesting; let's see if he can pull it off.

daisyj Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 02:05 PM EST

I was hoping that Carly would take "Jolene," I think she can nail that one. Ramiele singing "9 to 5" will only be okay with me if she does it in a yellow blazer with giant shoulder pads and a ruffle-front shirt. Which, given her apparent fashion sense, may not be an unrealistic expectation.

Solsbury Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:52 PM EST

Wow, the Idolatry gang rags on Ramiele for doing tired, overdone songs every week and here she is singing one more tired, overdone song. Love it.

StaleCake Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:49 PM EST

Interesting! We all know Ramiele would pick one of Dolly's 2 Pop #1's (and she did)... but Michael Johns and Islands in the Stream? I get it -- the Bee Gees are Australian, this was probably a hit down under -- but come on man! Even a cursory listen to The Essential Dolly Parton would give him a half-dozen better country rock songs with less melodies: "the Seeker", "In The Light Of A Clear Blue Morning", and "Why'd You Come In HEre Lookin' Like That", to name but 3. Islands has that annoying 5 notes repeated ad nauseum: "la la LA la la"

Stephanie T. Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:44 PM EST

Unless this is an April Fools joke, Jason Castro is most likely going to pull a "Vince Gill" with the song being that both have high voices and Gill is the only man who could really pull that song off well. Ramiele is singing 9 to 5? Well, her time is offically up.

Kathleen Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:40 PM EST

Im so stoked for tonight. I love DP. And Brooke is going to be awesome w/ "Coat of Many Colors." Dear lord that song makes me weep . . .

JTRaid Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:34 PM EST

Jason might just be the one to pull off that high hiGH HIGH note that Whitney did. Should be interesting. It just might straighten out those dreadlocks. hehe.

Albeit Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:30 PM EST

Uh, scary one from the Cookman. At least he'll have that trusty geeetar with him as his usual security blanket. We wouldn't have it any other way!

EP Sato Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:16 PM EST

Is there going to be an "Idols sing whatever song they want to" night? I'm impressed that a lot of the Idols can transcend genres, but most of these folks already know what they want to do and know what music they can best make. Why not let them do a week where they choose songs from any pop genre?

I'm glad the wife's got me hitting up the grocery store tonight. Tonight's episode strikes me as best watched as a "tivo highlight" recap show.

carrie m Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:08 PM EST

Ugh, please say this is April Fool's. I can't believe anyone would willingly pick Islands in the Stream, much less MJ. And I loves some 9 to 5, but not by that 13 year old in sheep's clothing! I am intrigued by Jason Castro doing I Will Always Love you though...could be interesting.

Tony Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:07 PM EST

I was worried that David Cook would bring out "Jolene," and sing it the way Jack White did, of course.

Red Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:07 PM EST

I CRINGED when I saw this list - Michael Johns singing a karaoke version of "Islands in the Stream"? Ramiele chirping along on "9 to 5"? Jason Castro whispering "I Will Always Love You"? YUCK. Boring, painful, and lame. However, Saint Sunshine should do just fine on "Coat", and I can hear Carly screeching "Jolene" already. Reserving judgment on the others, but definitely going to need a couple of bottles of wine to go with all the cheese that will be warbling out of my TV tonight.

krikky Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 01:02 PM EST

Is this the order they're going in too? Would love it if my boy JC went last...

Elizabeth Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST

I think I would've saved "Islands in the Stream" for the group performance on Wednesday night. Oh, the cheestastic possibilities...
If Rami comes out in a big ol' blonde poofy wig it will be magic! No shock that Carly & Brooke got the tunes they did.

Seriously, who couldn't peg that Ramiele would do 9 to 5? Ugh..I shudder at the though. Jason can probably pull his song off, but it will be in that dopey way he sings just about everything. The rest of them I'm interested in seeing. Except for Kristy Lee, of course. Blech.

Kristie Lee Cook and Michael Johns are in trouble. Jason Castro singing I Will Always Love You? Could be fantastico or a disaster. We'll see. So glad somebody's singing Jolene! Carly will probably have a great night.
