Ask Neil Patrick Harris anything!

Apr 17, 2008, 01:35 PM | by Dave Karger

Categories: 'How I Met Your Mother', Television

Neilpatrickharris_l I hope all you Popwatchers have checked out my EW.com video-interview series Just A Minute (the latest installment features Forgetting Sarah Marshall star Jason Segel). Well, this Monday, April 21, I'll be interviewing Segel's How I Met Your Mother costar Neil Patrick Harris about his priceless self-skewering cameo in Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. And I need your help. So in the comments section below, send us a question you'd like Mr. Harris to answer; we'll pick the best one and include it in my Just A Minute interview. In the words of Barney on HIMYM, it'll be awesome.

Asli Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 12:59 PM EST

do u want to be like Barney Stinson in real world?
thanks already
you're awesome...

Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 04:11 PM EST

4cents Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 08:30 PM EST

Where is the interview? I'm dying to know the answers to any (or all!) of these questions.....

Don't leave us hanging EW!

you did an excellent impression of david letteman a while back and you're always entertaining on talk shows as both guest and host. would you ever consider hosting your own show? maybe you and your brother wayne brady could team up. it would be legen ... dary!

Heather Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 08:13 PM EST

I think you are one funny guy. What or who do you find makes you laugh?

Liesel Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 06:51 PM EST

Do you have any musical theater gigs coming up?

Julia Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 10:15 AM EST

What makes you happy?

Tami Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 10:44 PM EST

How is the filming of Dr. Horrible doing? Tell us everything you can!

Michelle Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 10:08 PM EST

How did you come to be involved in Dr Horrible? Can you give us any tidbits about it at all? Did you have to suit up for the role?

And lastly, do I ask too many questions??

Linda Williams Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 09:03 PM EST

Your eyes are gorgeous. Who did you take them after?

Natalie Ellis Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 05:11 PM EST

If you had a choice between your How I Met Your Mother co-stars which would you want going on a date with and why.
Thanks.
I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

halfr3k Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 04:23 PM EST

Dr. Horrible, Dr. Horrible, Dr. Horrible...please divulge!!

Louise Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 03:35 PM EST

What is your favorite Barney's theory?

Sue Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

Ever since the season 1 episode of HIMYM where Barney and Robin "bro" out, it has seemed inevitable that they'll hook up one day - or maybe even end up together. Care to comment?
P.S. Barney is AWESOME!

Phil Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 02:37 PM EST

O.m.G.!!! at Teddy Pederson !!!! I am in stitches right now! That would be fierce though if Dave slipped that one in there, but I think thats more up Instinct or Genre's alley...LOL

What Rock Have I Been Under? Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 02:24 PM EST

Wha? Not that it doesn't all make sense now, but when did you come out? I missed that somehow. Ah well, congrats! I'm just totally confused on how I missed it.

Sally Hopkins Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 01:50 PM EST

When you decide on taking on a role, what are the essential elements that contribute for your decision ?

Kate Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 01:16 PM EST

I'd love to know a little about Neil's experience in Assassins - what was Stephen Sondheim like? How did you approach the show and character?

Also, please tell me ANYTHING about Dr. Horrible! And Joss!

Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 12:05 PM EST

It's Vinnie DELPINO!

holly K. Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 12:03 PM EST

Have you ever "lost yourself" in a character? If so, which one?

Kirk Larkin Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 11:37 AM EST

Will Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog be LEGENDARY?

Jeff Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 11:28 AM EST

Is Barney the Mother on How I Met Your Mother?

Teddy Pederson Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 11:01 AM EST

Are you a top or a bottom?

Felice Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 10:51 AM EST

How did Joss Whedon get you in on his Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog project?

MH Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 10:26 AM EST

Honestly, how awesome is Joss Whedon? No, really, this is a question.

karen b Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 09:32 AM EST

With your awesome moans during the slap song, your legendary backing vocals in the Xmas episode... and personal experience on Broadway with Rent.... when can we expect to hear more singing on HIMYM?

karen b Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 09:31 AM EST

Kelli Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 09:15 AM EST

i am SUCH a huge fan! you are the most believable male dog on television today--perhaps that is why i am so attracted to Barney?

my question is: i know you have conquered movies, television, theater...but what is that ONE role you still want to play?

thanks!
Rock out with your c**k out!!!

NineDaves Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 08:46 AM EST

swarley's question is genius. but i'm also curious whether he speaks to vinnie depino. now there's a guest star i would love to see.

frenchjr25 Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 08:19 AM EST

While on Doogie, how did if feel to see your other gay costar loose his career after coming out? Did this affect your coming out process?

orville Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 08:11 AM EST

Any chance of Lisa Dean Ryan playing one of Barney's conquests?

As for the possibility of a musical episode (oh, please make that happen), Alyson Hannigan already did one on "Buffy" so I don't see her having a problem with this series.

Vonda Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 07:40 AM EST

1. Will HIMYM ever get rid of the laugh track? :-)
2. Are Lebanese girls still tops or have half Asian girls climbed back into the top spot?
3. Can you please beg Sarah Chalke to leave Scrubs and come to HIMYM? She had great chemistry with Josh Radnor!
4. You're awesome. :-D

Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 01:42 AM EST

Is there any chance of a musical episode of HIMYM in the future? I know you are somewhat of a legend on broadway and Colbie has already sung in the form of Robin Sparkles while Segel has the slapped song. Even though Alyson Hannigan hates singing, is there any chance at all, it would definitely be awesome.

Pham Thanh Tan Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 12:47 AM EST

A very Simple suggest ^_^: How about going to VietNam , a traditional friendly tropical country, when having time? if not, I'll go to Los Angeles to see you..you are the reason why I must become a director..Just to have a chance to see you..!!!!!!

chunkyrice13 Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 11:49 PM EST

Think Barney and Robin would ever get together? They have great chemistry lately.

Philip Wester Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 10:49 PM EST

How's your sex life with David Burtka? "Middle-agy OK" or "Teenagy Hot Sweaty Monkey Love Great"?

kayla Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 06:42 PM EST

How do you feel about Barney and Robin getting together? I'm hoping they hook-up or something because the chemistry is awesome and Robin Sparkles needs some more Swarley in her life.

Yentroc Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 06:36 PM EST

What can you tell us about Joss Whedon's "Doctor Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog" that you're starring in? When can we expect to see it?

Katie Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 04:46 PM EST

Another question...several people have mentioned your musical past, and I can't help putting in a shout-out for that hilarious clip of you and Jason Segel singing "Confrontation" ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=EhXsJjVdj1E ). Please please please sing something? Or at least promise us a musical HIMYM episode?

Brock Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 04:40 PM EST

Have you been in contact at all with your Doogie co-star Mitchell Andersen? Did his coming out in 1996 affect your decision to live openly?

Phil Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 04:33 PM EST

This is EW so I dunno if they'll ask this question since its not really entertainment based, but as a gay man I feel its worth asking anyways especially for younger homosexuals.

Neil, you're one of the most well-known OUT actors in Hollywood these days, that still continues to be appreciated for your work both on HIMYM & in movies such as Harold & Kumar. Your co-star on Doogie Howser M.D., Mitchell Anderson was also an OUT actor. Did he help inspire you to be okay with being gay, when you were young & uncertain? Continue to do hysterical comedies & keep us all laughing!

dgchgo Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 04:20 PM EST

When are we going to be so lucky as to see you and David B star in a Broadway show together? What would be a good property for the two of you to do?

Kiki Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 04:16 PM EST

I know you like you some Broadway (as do I). What's your favorite show?

Verity Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 04:00 PM EST

To NPH:
Clearly you are a very versatile actor with a record of playing stand-out characters. Having conquered TV, Broadway and movies, is there anything else (a particular role or project) that you’d like to tackle next?
I currently have my recording of Assassins playing in my car and you truly have a remarkable voice. Do you plan to return to Broadway or will we get a musical episode of HIMYM just so we can hear you sing some more?

GeeMoney Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 04:00 PM EST

Oh yeah, and did you have a hard times getting roles after "Doogie Howser, MD" ended? Were you typecasted in any way?

GeeMoney Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 03:59 PM EST

How bad did Britney's weave look in person?

Loranat Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 03:44 PM EST

Please either 2cents or Swarley's!!!

Nick Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 03:37 PM EST

um...won't it be "legendary" ?

Thanks Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

I just want to take this opportunity to say thank you. I told myself that I was straight for years because I was scared it would completely define me if I were gay. Then I saw a clip of you on Ellen, and seeing the two of you together, I realized that you are both thought of as extremely talented and reliably hilarious people who happen to be attracted to members of the same gender. It made me realize that being gay was a part of who I was, but it was not the definition of me. Having now come out, I'm so relieved that I was able to see that.

Here's to a long, varied and prolific career. You deserve it.

kpietri Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 02:48 PM EST

I second Swarley's question!!

Dtom Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 02:34 PM EST

Please ask Swarley's question.

Swarley Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 02:30 PM EST

On a scale of Awesome to Awesome, how awesome is it to be so awesome?

saybo Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 02:22 PM EST

a recent HIMYM episode parodied the ending of Doogie episodes with Barney writing his thoughts at the end of the day (complete with Doogie theme song). And the Harold & Kumar movies are also playing on disbeliefs that you must be just like Doogie. Are you having as much fun with the references as it appears, or are you tired of being attached to Doogie? Is that how you've always felt, or is this something that's changed as you've grown up?

Dtom Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 02:21 PM EST

Please ask NPH if he knows that every time I do something, I ask myself, "what would NPH do?"

Amelia Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

How does one get to be so awesome? :)

And... Are you getting sick of questions that relate to Doogie Houser? If you answer yes, then you just offended me.

evie Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

It seems like sitcoms have come under fire a lot in the last few years, and sitcoms that were once popular would never survive today. I'd like to know in what ways NPH thinks sitcoms have changed from when he was on Doogie Howser (and maybe in what ways they haven't....)

Tom Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 01:59 PM EST

Do you like the other CBS comedies?

Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 01:21 PM EST

Do you eat White Castle burgers?

wandaplenn Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 01:18 PM EST

There's an internet rumor that you slept with Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim. We know you're gay, but are you THAT gay?

Katie Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 01:12 PM EST

What's been your favorite Barney catchphrase you've uttered so far? Have you come up with any of them yourself? Also, do you write Barney's blog? Please tell me that you do, even if that's a lie -- I'd like to think that you are really every bit as awesome as I imagine you are.

Snarf Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 01:04 PM EST

Did you get to keep your "Colonel Klink" outfit from Starship Troopers?

NPH's biggest fan Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 01:03 PM EST

I'm so jealous! I'd love to sit down with Neil Patrick Harris. Can you please ask him if he has any plans to return to the theatre? He was amazing in Assassins.

Sarah Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 01:02 PM EST

Are you watching Big Brother this year?

2cents Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 12:46 PM EST

What would Doogie think of Barney?

What would Barney think of Doogie?

Or did Doogie grow up to be Barney?

EP "NPH is legendary " Sato Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 12:44 PM EST

Dear NPH, two questions:

First, has "coming out" impacted your career in any way? I was one of those who was clueless until your announcement, but who still cheer you on. Your roles as Barney and as the parody NPH in Harold and Kumar show that you can play a hedonistic straight guy as well as any actor.

Second, I find a lot of similarities between Barney and your NPH role in Harold and Kumar. Where did your inspiration for these hilarious roles come from?

drella Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 12:43 PM EST

You still speak to Vinnie Depino?
