'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' reunion talk

Buffyreunion_l A few times a year I really hate being based in New York instead of Los Angeles. Last night, when the cast and crew of Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunited onstage at the Paley Festival, was one of those times. Fortunately, TheFutonCritic.com has an exhaustive timeline of who said what.

I would've been peeing myself at 8:37 p.m., when the cast was talking about filming "The Body," the episode in which Joyce dies. Obviously, Emma Caulfield ripped my heart out with Anya's monologue in Willow's dorm room, but I've always thought the scene where Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar, pictured, left) takes Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg, pictured, right) outside her classroom to tell her about Joyce's death was the most brutal to watch. Trachtenberg said they actually filmed dialogue for that, but that someone who is brilliant (creator Joss Whedon) decided not to use it. As Trachtenberg said, the silence allowed viewers to write the moment themselves, attaching their own real-life experiences (and adding to the waterworks). I also think the silence created a sense of helplessness for the viewers. You wanted to get to Dawn and Buffy to comfort them, but you couldn't.

What part of the timeline speaks loudest to you? And, if you were there, tell us more. My friend Eva was in the crowd and IM'd me this morning:

• "SMG [Sarah Michelle Gellar] was so gracious and awesome, mentioning how much she missed the crew and respected the writers. The writing staff attended. They stood up and we all applauded."
• "Greenie [exec producer David Greenwalt] looked HOT. His best line: 'There's nothing like taking all your pain and misery and, you know, shoving it into very-good-looking people's mouths.'"
• And, because she knows I heart both David Boreanaz (not present) and potty humor: "They were asked what they missed about the show, and Seth [Green] (pictured) said, 'I miss coming in to my trailer in the morning and finding out Boreanaz had already pooped in it. I'd be coming in, and he'd be coming out saying, 'I left something in there for ya.' He's a pooper."

i really miss buffy and would love to see what has happened to the characters since since the last episode. is willow a super goddes, does xander find love again, is dawn a super watcher, and of course is buffy still the baddest chic around?

I would love a movie! i would be one of the first in line to see it. I miss all the great characters that came from the show, the characters as well as the actors/actress who played them, each brought their own thing to the show which made it great! the movie should also envolve angel etc.I am also a big/huge fan of buffy and angel as a couple and think its about time that circumstances work so they can finally be back together!

Robert Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 12:50 PM EST

I think if they ever do a movie then both buffy and Angel shhould be one movie. I mean everything was done on buffy and sunnydale is gone so why not pick up were angel leaves off and have like willow do a spell were time is reversed to like maybe 3 days and the scoobies and the angel gand can plot against the seinor partners of Wolfram and Heart something like that, I have that all worked out in my head.

Honestly...I don't give a flying f.ck what Sarah was like on set. I've heard the rumors. And it doesn't take away the gut-wrenching feeling I get time after time after time of seeing Buffy stab Angel in "Becoming Part 2".

I miss Buffy TERRIBLY. The comics are good...but not enough =/

I miss Buffy so much. I wish I could have went

Man, I really would love to know what it was like on the Buffy set, and how the actors got along with each other. Maybe 20 years from now on the E! True Hollywood Story...

Courtney Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 01:36 PM EST

I'm just saying maybe there are two sides to every story. As many people who work in Hollywood can attest, just because you work for a company, doesn't mean actors and actresses treat you with respect. She had issues with a lot of actors, but always really like the Buffy cast and crew. I shared this story because I had a different experience to another person's second-hand story. Why is everyone so quick to jump to the bad judgments of people?

Bruce in NC Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 01:14 PM EST

It just so happens that last week I dug out my Best of Buffy videocassette (hence the digging) and watched what I consider to be the top 6 eps: Bandcandy (Summers you drive like a spaz!), The Wish, Doppelgangland, Once More...With Feeling, Hush and The Body.

So much fun to watch those again.

Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 12:09 PM EST

Gee, do you think that your godmother being vice president of the company they work for had anything to do with the cast going out of their way to being nice to you? I'm just saying that someone who worked on the show with no connections may have had a different experience than someone who visited the set with an important executive.

Courtney Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 11:08 AM EST

A response to smoking purse-I'm sorry, but I do have to completely disagree. My godmother was vice president of productions for fox and when I was 12, she took me on the set of Buffy (SSN02 Inca Mummy Girl). Sarah Michelle Gellar (and everyone else) was so nice to a shy, awe struck child. They signed a photo that I still have framed on my wall. Towards the end of my trip, SMG made sure to ask me if I enjoyed myself. I don't think I was able to speak the whole time but everyone was amazing and friendly.

Furthermore, SMG and David Boreanaz both would sign personalized posters and pictures for me for my godmother. She loved them and loved working for that show. She would even invite the cast to her childrens' bar and bat mitzvahs.

elena Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 10:43 AM EST

No matter how different these people are from their characters, I still love 'em for putting on the most entertaining hour of television. To take high school and elevate it to this place of vampires and magic, where the monsters are real, and someone has to fight them, protecting all the normal kids, I loved it. And I still do.
Joss Whedon is kind of God. But just kind of.

smokingpurse Sun, Mar 23, 2008 at 06:56 PM EST

SMG may have SAID all that but she's not sincere in the least. My friend worked in costumes the last two seasons of that show and she almost never spoke to ANYONE other than Michelle T who is almost as unfriendly as SMG. Don't kid yourselves, people. Buffy was not a fun place to work.

So wish I could have been there. And I agree "The Body" is one of those all time Buffy episodes, I cry every time.

Alex Sat, Mar 22, 2008 at 07:08 PM EST

While the show in general was a great reminder at how influential Buffy was on its fans, popular culture, and the cast (they did show up to reminisce... minus a few which were greatly missed) I agree that the worst part of the evening had to be about movie/ipod question. Worst part for wasting good time that could be spent talking about the show, and worst for how LONG it took for EVERYONE to answer.

Such a bad choice by a "fan" to ask that.

If only a smart network exec would step up and understand the Buffy/Angel fanbase, and realize they'd have a hit if they put the series back on the air. I mean REALLY, besides Oz, Willow and Angel working steadily on film and TV series, the rest of the cast could very well re-unite if someone presented a proper script order. IF the CW can consider a 90210 spin-off YEARS later, i'm sure someone can get the ball rolling for a new Buffy series!

mamapookie Sat, Mar 22, 2008 at 11:04 AM EST

sure hope they do come back. loved the show.

Rob Grizzly Sat, Mar 22, 2008 at 09:34 AM EST

"The Body" is definately one of the 10 best Buffy episodes ever

Rick Sat, Mar 22, 2008 at 05:37 AM EST

I watch the show every time it came on. I never missed a episode oh and I even watched the reruns over and over. Buffy was a bad as* and I would never mess with her. I love the show. If you put the show back on the air it would have to be the same actors in the later years. Differant actors wouldn't be the same

ladyhicks Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 10:42 PM EST

I love love love the show and Angel.....Please can we get those shows back on the air. The chemistry between all of the characters was awesome.

J.B. Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 07:47 PM EST

Post note, my husband, also a Buffy fan, refused categorically to even consider naming her Buffy.

J.B. Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 07:42 PM EST

Sad but true, I miss Buffy so much that my newborn daughter is named Willow.

Jane Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 07:28 PM EST

I was there too and was disappointed that Willow, Angel, Joyce, Giles, and Wesley were not there. Nick Brendon was horribly annoying because he kept on trying to grab the spotlight and Seth Green also joked too much. I don't mind that they wanted to give the kids a thrill, but because of them Charisma, Emma, Amber, and David Greenwalt were given short shrift.

And that jerk who asked the first question about what's your favorite movie and what's on your iPod of every panelist- you are an idiot. Even the moderator got tired of the question and tried to cut it off.

Wanderer Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 07:09 PM EST

Damn Michelle Trachtenberg is sexy as hell! Also, I hope that the Buffy cast gets together and does a movie based off the comic series that Joss Whedon created to continue after the series finale of Buffy.

Crystal Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 07:06 PM EST

I was there and although this may be considered blasphemy, my favorite part was getting to watch and hear “Once More With Feeling,” on the big screen. Fabulous! I also enjoyed Seth’s one-liners and Charisma’s awesome dress. And did ya know Amber was sleeping with Marlon Brando?! Totally crazy ;)

Also - super scrabble!

Holly Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 05:13 PM EST

This is off the subject but Sarah Michelle Gellar looks her most beautiful in that photo.

Mozz Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 04:11 PM EST

My favorite tv show of all time, I loved every second, including those seconds in season six some may have ragged on. I miss this show so bad.

Snarf Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 04:09 PM EST

Am jealous. Gonna go sulk..:(

jay Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 03:44 PM EST

I MISS BUFFY SO MUCH.

Vicky Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 03:39 PM EST

Seth needs to fix those eyebrows. They're scaring me.

sari Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 03:17 PM EST

Wow, that is not a flattering picture of any of them.

Kim Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 03:04 PM EST

Loved every second of it! Got autographs from Joss and David! Awesome!

dickbird Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 02:13 PM EST

its sarah michelle prinze now :)

Vlada Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 02:10 PM EST

Because I know there's some Profit fans at EW, I will say that David Greenwalt happily signed my Profit DVDs. He seemed surprised to see them there. :)
