Who secretly wants to see 'Step Up 2 the Streets'?

I'm not sure whether it's the four hours' sleep I had last night talking — or the fact that I totally enjoyed the original Step Up in theaters — but if someone asked me to go see the sequel tonight, I would. There, I said it. How about you, PopWatchers?

Kimberley Sat, Mar 8, 2008 at 02:30 PM EST

um...wth is Paige talking about? I'm guessing you haven't atcually seen this movie. haha Mad dumb. You have to be black to break dance?...shows how smart you guys are. & FYI half the leading characters were colored so i suggest you think before you talk.

Me Mon, Feb 18, 2008 at 09:10 AM EST

How much do you want to bet that, at some point in this movie, a character will say "Bring it!" or "Let's do this!"

Scott Mon, Feb 18, 2008 at 09:05 AM EST

Not a chance in hell.

Marcel Mon, Feb 18, 2008 at 03:36 AM EST

I would rather to terrible things to myself with a fork than see this.

Silv Sat, Feb 16, 2008 at 10:15 AM EST

I'd love to see it! I always enjoy good dance movies - and I have low expectations on the plot/acting.

Liz M. Sat, Feb 16, 2008 at 03:40 AM EST

i've been dying to see it !!!! my friends and i went on v-day and it was sold out!! who knew so many other people had a love for hip hop chick flicks!

I love this guy. I heard from my friends that he joined celebrities and wealthy club "Searching Millionaire dot com". recently. I really expected that I could meet him there.

monica Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:04 PM EST

oh yeah, there are minorities in the movie. they're just not prominently displayed in the trailer. one of the lead's friends is a dancer named danielle polanco and she's hispanic. So if that fills your minority quota, I guess you can go now.

monica Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:01 PM EST

I feel no shame whatsoever. I love dance movies. I'm seeing it tomorrow. And if it wouldn't be weird, I'd invite you along to see it with my friends.
To Vicky & Paige: I'm a minority, and even I know white people can dance and they too can live in the "ghetto," so maybe you should update your requirements for a dance movie.

denny Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 09:51 PM EST

As someone who has been a dancer almost his whole life, I love nearly all movies with dance in them (and the ones that I don't outright love are mostly guilty pleasures). One of my non-dancer friends shares this affinity, and we loved Step Up, despite how bad it was. So as soon as we saw the GOD-AWFUL trailer for the sequel, we made a date to see it opening weekend. And I can't wait for the major suckage.

Lynny Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

Totally, except can I just watch the dance scenes and leave the rest out. The dancing seems pretty spectacular.

Valerie Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 08:13 PM EST

Sounds like a DVD for a lonely Friday night... so maybe !

the beckster Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 07:02 PM EST

Yes. Definitely. (Hangs head in shame.)

As a disclaimer: I am not a tween and usually consider myself a discriminating movie fan, but I am completely powerless when it comes to cheesy dance movies.

t3hdow Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 06:19 PM EST

I was forced to go see the first one, which would've been a mediocre film without all the dancing. Then again, I'm biased. I don't have too many expectations toward the dance genre to begin with, so I was at least happy that the first one was merely competent, rather than unbearable. Still, I won't watch it, even if it's later presented in cable TV.

Vicky Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 05:48 PM EST

Haha Paige, I'm thinking the exact same thing. The whitest movie about hip hop dancing ever. PASS!

Peter Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 05:39 PM EST

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

DRS Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 05:24 PM EST

I went last night with a couple of my single girlfriends and LOVED it! I readily admit that I pretty much love every movie with dancing in it (although I couldn't get through You Got Served - not enough dancing) and this one did not disappoint. I'd even go so far as to say that it was better than the first because there was a lot more dancing and the opening scene was freaking killer! If you have the right attitude about it, it's a really fun movie.

Kari Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 05:20 PM EST

I was totally embarassed to admit to my indie-loving friends that I wanted to see this. They were both shocked and appalled but I do have one friend that's willing to go with me and I'm hoping to catch a viewing this weekend.

Tim Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 04:58 PM EST

I'd rather have root canal.

Snarf Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 04:45 PM EST

meh.

Catherine Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 04:16 PM EST

Already have a planned date with my sister to go see it!! And we were actually quite excited when we saw the preview a while back!!!

Working Girl Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:54 PM EST

I saw it last night! Wild horses (or, in this case, dozens of nasty little tweeners) couldn't keep me away! On the Dance-Off Movie Continuum (0 = 'You Got Served', 10 = 'Stomp The Yard') this came in around a 3. The crappy acting::sweet dancing ratio sucked (the downfall of 'You Got Served'), and the leads were waaaaaaay short on charisma (the saving grace of 'Step Up 1: Channing Tatum'). (Bonus points, though, for the offensive Asian characticature, which was a stereotype I was not expecting.) None of this will deter me from seeing the next incarnation of 'Dance Off: Oh, It's On' or whatever else comes down the pike. Long live breakdance fighting! Go see it, Mandi!

Annie Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:52 PM EST

My best friend dragged me to the first one and I grudgingly loved it (If it's a movie centered around dancing it's automatically a guilty pleasure). When I go home on spring break next weekend we're totally going to Step Up 2. We're both dorkily and shamefully excited.

Devin Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:46 PM EST

Hell to the no.

paige Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

why the hell was john waters there???

Blake Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:42 PM EST

I went to the Baltimore premiere of Step Up 2 because my dad is an extra in it. He is one of the police officers chasing the dancers through the subway station in the first scene. Surprisingly, the movie was a lot better than the first one and better than I expected. I really got into it and it is a fun movie to see. Oh also I got to meet John Waters at the premiere!

new yorker Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:40 PM EST

one of my coworkers went to see it last night, and I was reasing this post as she came into my office right now. We just watched the clip together and she pointed all the parts that were and were not in the movie. So yea, I know someone who saw it, and she is VERY PROUD of that. P.S. I kinda want to see it now, even though I've bashed it since I heard of it coming out, plus I've never seen the first. But maybe I'll put my dignity aside for one (or maybe 33rd)time and go see it since I really love "LOW" by FLO-RIDA. Ok, I'm going to go wallow in my shame now.

paige Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:38 PM EST

I love how its called Step Up 2: THE STREETS and yet there is not a person of color in sight...

paige Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:37 PM EST

i have no interest in seeing Step Up 2: Electric Bugaloo... And you can call me a snob or whatever but if I ever met someone who said they paid money to go see this, I would have to walk away from that conversation.

Jon Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

Oh I'm totally there. Love crap movies like this. I tried to pay my friends to go see In the Name of the King with me, but no one would...:(

Cam Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:25 PM EST

Hell 2 the No. I won't even watch either movie on DVD. Though I might catch them on the pay channels eventually, when I'm too drunk to use the remote and switch to something else.

mark in nyc Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:25 PM EST

sorry I am not a tween...thats a no

idigress Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:22 PM EST

I am going to check it out sometime this weekend!

Phil Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:18 PM EST

I wanted to go last night for Valentine's Day when it opened! Haha I plan on seeing it, if not tonight, at some point this weekend. And for everyone wondering about Rob Hoffman, he KILLED it everytime on Nick Cannon's Wild N Out on MTv! I'd tune in just to watch him hold his own.

Kari Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:13 PM EST

Step Up was the one netflix movie I had during a blizzard last winter while my Directv was out. There are many shameful elements of that statement, but really, I've seen Step Up more times than a 34 year old woman should ever be able to admit to.

So, um, yeah. I'd go. And I'd be pretty excited about going. But I'd lie and say that I was at There Will Be Blood instead.

Anthony Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:01 PM EST

No. That's a rental if I've ever seen one.
