The new 'Sex and the City' movie trailer!

Feb 22, 2008, 01:44 PM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: 'Sex and the City', Fa-fa-fa-fa-fashion, Movie Trailers

The full-length Sex and the City movie trailer has hit the web (below), and sent emails flying in our offices. We're not sure whether to trust our eyes: So Big would really leave Carrie at the altar? Charlotte is pregnant? Miranda might have to kick Steve in his testicle for cheating on her? And Samantha is still transfixed by Smith's abs? (Okay, that last one we buy).

While I really want to see how this "anti-fairytale" ends — and experience that moment when I'm proud to be a woman with great friends — am I the only one who's yet to see a reason why this movie had to be on the big screen? I wouldn't be any less excited if it was premiering on HBO, and I got to eavesdrop on their intimate conversations from the comfort of my couch. I wonder if having them in my home helped me feel so close to them in the first place... just asking. Anyway, what about you, PopWatchers? How do you feel about SATC: The Movie?

RIA Thu, May 29, 2008 at 12:16 PM EST

I THINK IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE AND AM SO GLAD THEY MADE IT I THINK IT IS JUST A HARMLESS PIECE OF FILM TO WATCH WITH YOUR GIRLFRIENDS AND PEOPLE ARE TO QUICK TO PUT IT DOWN 2 THUMBS UP FOR THE GIRLS WE ALL LOVE TO WATCH WELL DONE

grace Wed, May 28, 2008 at 07:14 PM EST

I think Mr. Big dies, because in the trailer she says (Carrie)something like "Not all ends like in the fairy tales, you do not always get your ending witht prince charming happily everafter", and to observe she even dyes her hair darker like in morning!?

Camila Tue, May 27, 2008 at 10:39 PM EST

Oh, and “I couldn’t help but wonder”, why has it taken Carrie and Big four years to finally tie the knot (we know for a fact that four years have passed in the story after the end of the final season)? And why would they break up on their wedding day if not for a serious reason like... Big’s death??
Unfortunatly I’ll have to wait a bit more to see the movie here in Brazil, but I’d really like to see Carrie and Big ending up together, just as (un)predictable as it should be.

Camila Tue, May 27, 2008 at 10:38 PM EST

I've just watched the full-length movie trailer and it dawned on me: Mr. Big dies. I hope I’m wrong though, beacause it's just too sad for me.
In the beginning I thought the great disappointment Carrie had on her wedding day (we could see from the first scenes released that the wedding was called off for some reason) was finding out that Big was cheating on her, or that he had second thoughts and left her at the altar, or even that he had a flat tire or got stuck in traffic (how naive is that??).
However, there was that beautiful song, “Heart of the Matter”, playing in the background, which is about failed relationships and moving on and learning to forgive, so it threw me off a little (Carrie wouldn’t have to forgive Big for dying, would she?).
By the way, Stanford doesn't die, for we can see him at the church receiving bad news from wedding planner Anthony. Assuming everthing we see on the movie trailer is for real, that is.

Well to tell it all they all die..
1. Big hangs himself
2. Carrie gets ran over by a bus
3. Samantha dies in a plane crash
4. Charlotte slips on brie and breaks her neck
5.Miranda gets her throat cut by Steve-O

kim grile Tue, May 20, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST

"HEART OF THE MATTER" IS THE NAME

ITS ALL ABOUT FORGIVENESS. HENLEY SAYS ITS HIS FAVORITE SONG HE'S WRITTEN- AND MEANS THE MOST

KIM GRILE Tue, May 20, 2008 at 01:45 PM EST

The song was originally written and sung by Don Henley of the Eagles.

Its the most beautiful song - very life affirming

Marianne Thu, May 15, 2008 at 11:51 AM EST

Cut me a break, why would the brass at WB/HBO want to kill off a main character in a franchise that can offer a big cash payoff for decades? Think business, think Stanford Blatch--he's totally dispensable.

tonje Tue, May 13, 2008 at 10:42 AM EST

somebody know the name of the music in the trailer?

jess Mon, May 5, 2008 at 11:44 AM EST

I saw a documentary that is like the real life "Sex and the City." I think it's on the Sundance Channel tonight. check it it out, it's called, "FLYING: CONFESSIONS OF A FREE WOMAN" explores what it means to be a woman in today's world. In the midst of a midlife crisis, Fox embarks on a five-year odyssey in which she engages with women in 17 nations to find out how they define freedom.

Kat Sun, Apr 20, 2008 at 05:00 AM EST

you can you tube this and see the wedding scene where carrie attacks big in his car. They filmed a lot of fake scenes and it would NOT make sense for them NOT to marry. If that happened I am sure the fans would say the movie was a waste of time- what is the point in the reunion then?

KAT Sun, Apr 20, 2008 at 04:58 AM EST

big does not die he shows up after she comes out of the church and she attacks him in the car with her bouquet and I Bet IT IS A DREAM sequence. Steve cheated on his diet. His mom died- she is not in the cast and she was a part of the story line at the end of the series. Charlotte gets preggers and loses the baby. Bitzy Von Muffling is in the story but NO hubby in credits- maybe HE died as did Steves mom. Samantha is oggling someone else in those shots. I think the wedding is a dream sequence because Carrie would never marry in that trashy dress for sure. I think they elope at the end. They are both rotten and deserve each other. She and Big cheated when big was married- they are two of a kind. Someone said stanford blatch dies- I dunno but check the cast list at the internet movie database and see who is missing from the list.

Greg Mon, Mar 3, 2008 at 01:14 AM EST

Look its obvious that big dies. Didn't you realize all the black Carrie was wearing through the trailer? Black on black. Thats not her style. With the phone dropping to the floor. He must of had a heart attack. Thats my guess. Thoughts?

The series had the worst ending of any series ever and it's on the big screen. Don't question it, just watch!

peggym Sun, Feb 24, 2008 at 05:28 PM EST

big deserted Carrie all through the series. She was a masochistic idiot for going back to him over & over. Why should this time be any different?

jen Sun, Feb 24, 2008 at 01:21 PM EST

Oh my gosh. After hearing for years that they wanted to get the case back together to make this movie and then it falling apart several times, I am so excited to see this trailer. It seems that they finally have fallen into the right place at the right time. I don't think it would be a true SATC if Big didn't leave Carrie waiting. That's what he does. And to hear Charlotte say she's preggers. Oh, it brought tears to my eyes, b/c everyone just knows how badly she wanted it! I cannot wait to see this movie. This will not be a husband movie, I am going to grab 3 of my closest friends and head to the theater PRONTO!

Ruby Sat, Feb 23, 2008 at 06:39 PM EST

Don't know how I feel about the trailer and all the little spoilers, but I do know I will be there. And am I wrong, or is Samantha not so much drooling over Smith's abs, but some other dark haired dude with similarly chisled abs? PS. Steve cheats on Miranda, nnoooooooooo!

lola Sat, Feb 23, 2008 at 12:49 PM EST

I thought this would be lame, but that trailer gives me a glimmer of hope that it might measure up to the show itself!

So knowing that Big supposedly jilts Carrie made me very upset indeed (as I have and always will LOVE Big) but when Steve cheats on Miranda... OMG the look on her face, it almost made me cry! I cannot wait for this to come out! Boo to all the haters out there!

donner Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 11:09 PM EST

I am there! the first trailer did nothing for me, but this new trailer, even with all the spoilers, has me excited to see the girls are back..I wish Big would just get in a car and drive to Canada and go away...he's so BAD for Carrie what a dick...Steve cheats on Miranda??? whoa...drama!!

Erin Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 10:14 PM EST

Mandi, it HAS to be on the big screen because it's grown so much bigger than HBO! Thanks to our TV on DVD happy new world, millions more people (like me!) who never subscribed to HBO got to experience and love the show from the DVDs, and maybe even the watered down TBS versions (where they draw undies on the ladies!) and so the fan base has expanded so much, people would freak out if it was only going to be shown on HBO now. Many of us are perfectly willing to pay $11.50 to see it in the theater, but aren't willing to pay for one month of HBO for it.

Jennifer Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 08:18 PM EST

I agree. I was sad to see the show end, but they did such a great job pulling together all the story lines. I don't see a reason behind the movie. I will see it though.

ProgGrrl Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 05:58 PM EST

I love it. Will never get enough of these four ladies, their shoes, their brunches, their highs & heartaches. The dialogue is as crisp as ever and OMG we hear Mr. Big's full name?! *joy*

Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 05:02 PM EST

J-Hud!

Snarf Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 04:53 PM EST

Unnecessary. The series had a perfect ending. Why futz around with it?

Shari Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 04:27 PM EST

Big's not dead. No way shape or form. Sex has NEVER gone the melodramatic route and they won't start now, for the movie, that fans have waited 4 years for.

GeeMoney Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 04:21 PM EST

I'm so excited! Can't wait!

celbabs Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 04:17 PM EST

Okay, just saw it on jezebel as well. To say that I am excited is an understatement. It looks incredible. And yes, it HAD to be on the big screen. Sex and the City's life on TV is over. It finished. The only they could do was put it on the big screen and oh how lovely it's going to be!!!!

Actually, I found a paparazzi video of the filming of the scene right after the wedding, and Big is very much alive, and very much getting hit in the head with a bouquette, lol.

It's still up on jezebel

klo Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

Oh its not fake, I watched it twice, its the real deal...its almost 3 minutes long, shows a lot of interesting kid bits..I have read that it was leaked prematurely and was pulled down by the studio -- hopefully New Line comes around and lets it go back up!

Thad Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 03:24 PM EST

Can anyone get this to work??!!! Teaser truely

Mar Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 03:14 PM EST

I din't get to view this video...it was pulled so quickly that my first thought was it must be a fake!

Sally in Chicago Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 03:03 PM EST

I'm with you Mandi, it didn't need to be on the BIG screen, just a little cable TV movie or network TV movie and they could do like those Magnum movies....show one every season...but I want to know how big is Jen-Hud's part, seems like she's got a peek-a-boo or you miss her part...and will she sing the theme Song?

snarky Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 02:45 PM EST

I found the clip on YouTUbe and I only have one thing to say - YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited - I emailed all my friends with the link and told them to save the date!

celbabs Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 02:35 PM EST

The trailer disappears for me on this site and it's already been taken off of YouTube by New Line Cinema. It's such a big tease!!!!! Frustrating!!!!!!

klo Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 02:33 PM EST

I agree with the first comment, my gut reaction is that BIG dies, not leaves her at the alter..I found this to be heartbraking! Or am I just hormonal today?

klo Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 02:33 PM EST

I couldn't be more excited. It looks fantastic, and retains all that we loved about the series. I think seeing it on the big screen will only make it more brilliant and engaging.

QueenC Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 02:13 PM EST

Garsh. I was able to find it on another site, but the first few seconds were clipped off. That said... oh mah goodness - I can't WAIT!!!!

nothing Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 02:10 PM EST

Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 02:07 PM EST

me too, josher. help, anyone?

josher Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 01:50 PM EST

When I click on the clip, it disppears.

R.C. Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST

I have a hunch...Big doesn't leave her at the altar...he dies! And this movie is all about her finding her way again. Back to the fabulous, and single, Carrie we all know and love. It's a reach, but hey, who knows?
