Jimmy Kimmel strikes back (with a little help from his friends)

Feb 25, 2008, 07:49 PM | by Dafna Pleban

Categories: Celebrity Scandals, Hell to the no!, Strange Bedfellows, Those Crazy Kids!, To Care or Not to Care

In case you missed it today, Jimmy Kimmel has decided he's not going to take his girlfriend Sarah Silverman's cheating lying down:

The attention to detail is astounding, as is the amount of sheer star power that Kimmel manages to tap (pun intended). The cake, delivered in a ''FEX'' box, makes me giggle almost as much as Brad Pitt's lecherous grin. (How many times did you have to watch it before you realized that Pitt was the FEX delivery guy? I'm not going to lie -- I was too awed by Affleck's sartorial blunder bravery to notice until a third viewing.) I don't know how Sarah can compete -- Kimmel definitely seems to have Hollywood's sympathy vote, with more stars joining in a chorus of support (Harrison Ford, Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate, Joan Jett, Macy Gray, Robin Williams, Don Cheadle, Huey Lewis, Josh Groban, Rebecca Romijn, McLovin, among others) than seemingly attended last night's Oscars.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Are you engaged by this public display of faux-wanton behavior and breathlessly awaiting the next installment? Or are you just hoping the "paramours" take their private affairs offline?

That was awesome.

gurly Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 10:24 AM EST

I guess I'm the only one who does not find this juvenile humor funny. The 'stars' who participated should be embarassed for their 'careers.' Another example of why the writers should go back on strike!

gurly Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 10:21 AM EST

Omigosh - Hollywood jerks using the F word over and over like little 12 year olds - how amusing.

Mike Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 08:49 AM EST

I'm in the "liked the first one better" camp. I can re-watch Sarah's and get a kick out of it every time. This one only amused. To me, loading it with famous people is an easy joke. Also, too many beeps -- I just found it irritating to listen to all those beeps. Had to work too hard to figure out what they were saying.

Laura Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 01:47 AM EST

I think the reason I love Jimmy's more is because of the second half. Sarahs & Matt's is hilarious because of Sarah's faces and Matt's amazing growl-singing, but hearing the second half of Jimmy's video just makes me laugh so hard I can't stop. All those celebs singing about f-ing Ben is HILARIOUS.

And yeah, Josh Groban can sing ANYTHING well. Wow, he's obviously amazing.

Shonuff Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 12:11 AM EST

I just don't even want to THINK about what would happen to Josh's fans if an unedited version leaked...haha! Not that all his fans are uptight or anything...I love him, I'd pay $20 to hear him sing the F word. Woo!

peggym Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:18 PM EST

I'm normally dismayed at the way the F word is overused in entertainment, as most people of my acquaintance use it quite sparingly, but all last night there I was, a gray-haired civil servant, singing "I'm f***ing Matt Damon" to my daughter. The only thing of Sarah Silverman's that I've ever liked. Jimmy's was good, the original was great.

ladyli1 Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:12 PM EST

FUN-NY! Now were the Unedited version?

Jim Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

You're right about too many celebs. And the We Are the World thing was lame. For me, when Matt Damon GROWLS into the camera "On the bed, on the floor, on a towel by the door, in the tub, in the car, up against the mini-bar" was the best YouTube moment in years.

Jael Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 07:36 PM EST

It would have been a lame, juvenile joke about homosexuality until all the star power kicked in. Because, come one, everyone is f***ing Ben! Love that parts with Ford and Groban. Love!

krikky Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 07:21 PM EST

Hysterical. Groban was the best. And was that McLovin'?!?

lala1215 Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 07:08 PM EST

I loved the original but you have to give credit to Kimmel (though it pains me a bit cause I don't find him funny)for allowing me to see the guest stars in a new light. Loved Harrison Ford, Groban and Cheadle

ks Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 06:11 PM EST

I generally can't stand Jimmy Kimmel or Sara Silverman, but I thought this video was hilarious--much funnier than the original purely for the amount of star power he got to participate--and who-- Josh Groban, Don Cheadle, Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt--instant classic.

queen of disrepair Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 05:31 PM EST

I want one of the "Honk if you're f*ucking Ben Affleck" bumper stickers! Sarah's is better just because Matt is sexier than Ben but this was hilarious!

Raven_Moon Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 05:23 PM EST

That was hilarious! I especially like the Josh Groban part. Although, I thought the Sara & Matt video was better.

Nick Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 05:09 PM EST

AHHHH I LOVE ITTTT

DanOregon Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 04:13 PM EST

Whoever wrote this bit might be the first to ring up some serious change under the new labor agreement.

Ruby Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 04:13 PM EST

I thought it was really funny. I agree that Matt & Sarah's video was funnier, because it was so original and simple, but there are some awesome moments in this video. Brad's delivery, Harrison Ford blowing a kiss, Robin Williams with the water, the way Ben Affleck kept a straight face throughout. Awesome!

susu005 Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 03:25 PM EST

too funny- I even watched it w/ no sound and found it hysterical!

Nose Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 02:21 PM EST

Are we all really that uptight and anal that we expect a dude on a late-night talk show to be a role model? Good Lord, people, get over yourselves! This video isn't geared towards children or families...it's a late night show!!
This was hilarious, and the fact that high-powered stars can poke fun at themselves makes them even more endearing. The Josh Groban bit made me cry I laughed so hard.

Laura Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 01:34 PM EST

I can't believe people are actually taking offense to this video. I thought the original was so-so, but the "We Are the World" parody was just awesome, especially for the inclusion of McLovin and Josh Groban. I personally would love to hear a non-bleeped version.

UES Ally Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 01:26 PM EST

Sarah's was MUCH funnier! Sure, Jimmy had the star power - but Sarah and Matt were completely unexpected. The simplicity of the original made it genius!

OMG Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 01:22 PM EST

They used the f-word, and bleeped it! How offensive! What about the children!!??

/sarcasm seriously, the things people can find to complain about. If it bothers you so much don't go out in the real world either.

Duh Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST

People on here talking about this being 'sterotypically gay'?? What a laugh. It is about being gay! And the 'f' word is what they do with each other. Yuck. There's nothing funny about this crap!

ep sato Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 11:49 AM EST

I normally hate Jimmy Kimmel and think he's hella overrated. So it surprised me that this skit was so gosh darned funny! The 'We are the world" parody was great, but who knew Harrison Ford could have such great timing?

I'm not interested in another installment, as it seems to me they've reached the apex of this theme. That said, it's clear that Silverman and Kimmell together are greater than the sum of their parts.

Martha Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 11:22 AM EST

Have to agree with others here about the Josh Groban and Harrison Ford bits...high-larious. As much star power as this one had, though, I think I still prefer the Matt and Sarah original.

Observer Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 11:21 AM EST

I guess this shows how observant you are. I caught Brad Pitt as the FEX guy the first time I viewed this right after the 80th Academy Awards. This video is hilarious and the facts that all these entertainers helped Jimmy is a testament to his popularity in the entertainment community. I know that the die hard conservatives are cringing at the multiple use of the "f" word but this video was so over the top funny, I could watch it over and over! And the way Ben and Jimmy carried on during his post Oscar show just reinforced it. F----ing Hilarious!!!

strickens_girl Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 11:20 AM EST

Crazy funny. All those stars, especially Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford and Josh Groban, were perfect. My only complaint is that the tune is not as catchy as the Matt Damon one. I'll be singing it all day now.

NotImpressed Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Sick of the sex jokes.
Hollywood sure loves that f word. Sad. No role models here.

Anjeliki Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:54 AM EST

Was that Peter Brady I saw?

Would have been better if Jen Garner had been involved.

Very funny, and, while I laughed harder at Sarah's, I enjoyed this one a lot.

NineDaves Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:53 AM EST

i have to agree with taylor. i can't take the gay joke. i would have laughed harder had those stereotypical gay jokes not been there (really? cut off shorts? spandex purple shirt? gay wedding?). sarah and matt's video was just smarter. watching jimmy's video actually made me wish there was a writer's strike!

Jackie Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:47 AM EST

SOMEONE GOT DON CHEADLE A RECORDING DEAL!!

Josh Groban singing the f-word? PRICELESS. that was by far the BEST part.
Aside from Charlie, McLovin, and Harrison Ford blowing a kiss....

Wtf was Lance Bass doing there?

love them both! Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:42 AM EST

It's nice to see celebrities goof around and not take themselves too seriously.

JujuBee Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:21 AM EST

..Sarah was more wickedly funny...but Jimmy was just gut busting funny...
I got that Pitt was the Fed Ex guy..
The water bottle, Cameron, Josh Groban!! McLovin.. fantastic.. Harrison Ford took it over the top... I almost peed my pants..Sarah has to top this.. She should use Clooney .. anyone from Ocean's 11, 12, 13.. would work...Come on, Sarah!

Laura Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:21 AM EST

That was HILARIOUS. Love all the cameos!

me Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:15 AM EST

I liked the SNL free-range chicken one better. Good, clean fun that was.

Todd Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:06 AM EST

I thought there was no way Jimmy could top Sarah's clip, but he did it by star power alone. That was freaking great!

Dev Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:05 AM EST

Pretty good Jimmy, but I think f***ing Matt Damon has done more for Sarah's energy and vivier...try Dueling Banjo's next Video or maybe something like done by Pink! Yeah..in fact...get Pink to help you out I think she might just be able to keep up with Sarah. Nice effort though...PS. Ben's just not your type.

DalGal Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 10:02 AM EST

Although, I still think Sarah's video was much funnier, I loved the Harrison Ford cameo. Did not see that one coming!

Sadie Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 09:58 AM EST

I could watch both videos on a loop all day. Josh Groban is the best part -- people can't believe that behind the voice lies a wicked sense of humor. Jimmy gets extra points for the cameos, but we're really the winners. I can't wait to see what's next.

SAK Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 09:40 AM EST

LAME... Sarah's video was WAAAAYYY funnier!! How about a little originality??? He pretty much copied her video and added a bunch of stars, WOW... not impressed AT ALL. better luck next time Jimmy!

Blah Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 09:18 AM EST

Never ceases to amaze me what stars will do for a laugh.
Disturbing.

Melissa Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 08:45 AM EST

Sarah's song was better, catchier but this one had me howling with all the cameos. She usually makes me bored but even Cameron Diaz's little finger diagram and head nod had me howling. Excellent retaliation. Keep 'em coming. We need the laughs.

charlene Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 08:36 AM EST

Josh Groban put me over the edge!! It's hilarious! Can't decide which one is better though.

bb Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 08:31 AM EST

Josh Grobin & McLovin! Awesome

Taylor Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 08:15 AM EST

I'm amazed at how stereotypically gay Jimmy Kimmell's video is. Is this supposed to be funny, because I'm not laughing.
Well, why should I be surprised, this is the same guy who ranted on how Rebecca Romijn Stamos was too beautiful to play a transgendered woman or used Chris Crocker to fuel more gay jokes.

Daniel! Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 08:12 AM EST

THAT was Josh Groban? THAT was Brad Pitt?!
Hilarious. Jimmy FTW!

Scott Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 07:55 AM EST

I've never really been a Jimmy Kimmel fan, but I have to admit that was a lot funnier than anything Letterman, Conan, or especially Leno have done in a very long time. The bits that Letterman and Leno have been doing for so long look pretty lazy and uninspired compared to this.

Jo Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 04:53 AM EST

I don't *want* to think it's funny...but I was laughing enough that the hubby came downstairs to see what I was watching.

Joey Jo Jo Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 01:15 AM EST

Just kidding. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Joey Jo Jo Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 01:14 AM EST

I was at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel when they shot the pool thing and Jimmy really was ----ing Ben Affleck.

chrome Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 12:45 AM EST

Though the whole thing had me laughing, I think my favorite part was the sheer randomness of "Dedicated to the memory of Norman Mailer".

CMU Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 12:36 AM EST

GLORIOUS! I loved it. The original will always be my favorite, but this was a close second. I await with bated breath the next installment.

Chris Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 12:30 AM EST

While the video is hysterical (the Robin Williams water bottle explosion really got me) I wish there was an unedited version, as all the bleeps take away some of the funny stuff they're saying. If anyone knows a way to get it unedited that'd be great but I'll still take it like it is.

Kimmie G Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 12:13 AM EST

I, too, woke up my husband last night with my laughing at this! And this morning, he had me get online so he could see it, too! I'll brag that yes, I did recognize Brad Pitt immediately, even though he seemed to try so hard to keep his head down. The jean shorts and metallic muscle shirt were a gift from the gods as far as I'm concerned. I can't wait to see what happens next, though I can't see it going anywhere new without it becoming a (more) ridiculous parody of itself.

Nix Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 11:12 PM EST

Well, Ben's always wanted to be gay, he just can't. I remember his commentary on the special edition of Pearl Harbor with Josh Hartnett about how their characters were so in love. I think there was a video, too. On the dvd.

Silv Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 11:07 PM EST

Thank goodness I didn't watch this at work-I can't stop cracking up!

Connick Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 10:53 PM EST

Neither of them are funny. I don't know how either of them have careers. I wish they would both go away.

KG Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 10:08 PM EST

hahaha harrison ford!! i was so surprised to see him blowing kisses hahaha... and josh groban dropping the F bomb! so many times! brad pitt makes an awesome FEX guy. i love it!

sarah & matt's song is more catchy though

Todd Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 09:57 PM EST

yeah lost and lord of the rings-philes gotta note the dominic monaghan appearance

sam Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 09:43 PM EST

Just great--made sitting through that dull Oscar telecast almost worth it!

Daniel Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

Don't forget Dominic Monaghan. He was there, too.

Dan Daoust Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 09:02 PM EST

I think we all know what's next: "I'm f****** Obama."

Angie Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:55 PM EST

They were equally hilarious! I hope the next one is Matt and Ben f***ing each other.

Kris Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:53 PM EST

Nothing beats the original. But points for using two of Damon's Ocean co-stars.

skye Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:51 PM EST

this is gonna be an all out war. Sara's was kinda funny, but I don't like her that much. Jimmy's. omg, where do I start? Josh Groban really got me, and Harrison Ford was a good one too. I'm glad he used real, high profile stars, and not just the regular goofballs

Tracy Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:38 PM EST

Effin' high-larious! The jean shorts are my favorite part! I woke my husband up (I watched in bed last night) 'cause I was laughing so hard.

Cara Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:33 PM EST

Um. "Thing". I meant "thing".

Cara Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:33 PM EST

Oh my God. I spit my Vitamin Water all over my desk. That was the funniest think I've seen in at least three months.

Thad Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:25 PM EST

f-ing GENIUS!

someone Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:24 PM EST

I never thought I'd see Josh Groban dropping the F-bomb. That was hilarious.

Rebekah Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:17 PM EST

Both are amazing. Jimmy's star power was awesome. I do have to give it to the originals, Sarah & Matt. I was laughing hysterically.

musicdweller Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:06 PM EST

I am loving it! Please let there be more!

Erin Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 08:01 PM EST

Both were hilarious!
Josh Groban & Harrison Ford's parts had me rolling.
But, I have to give it up to Sarah & Matt. They were the originals, keeping it simple and funny. They win this viral victory.
