Trailer Blazer: 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'

Categories: Indiana Jones, Movie Trailers

Harrison Ford may be 108 years old, but I'm 14 again, thanks to the release this morning of the Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull teaser trailer at Yahoo Movies. It looks pretty dang awesome, even if the clip does waste the first half of its two-minute running time with a retrospective of Indy's past glories. (Wait, he "saved the cradle of civilization"? That's what the Temple of Doom was? I thought civilization started in Iraq or Egypt, not India.) Note to Paramount: we all know who Indiana Jones is; just because it's been 19 years doesn't mean we need a refresher course. We also know that Harrison Ford is, like, old, so we don't need the obligatory quip about his age. (Sidekick Ray WInstone: "This ain't gonna be easy." Indy: "Not as easy as it used to be.") Besides, by the look of things, Ford can still do stunts quite nicely, thank you. (Better quip: Shia LaBeouf: "You're a teacher?" Indy: "Part-time.") Also, I'd have liked to see more than a glimpse or two of Cate Blanchett (coiffed in a nifty Louise Brooks bob) and Karen Allen (back as Marion Ravenwood). But enough quibbling. Still a pretty dang awesome teaser. Watch, and we'll discuss, after the jump.

Now that you've watched it, a few questions: Is Indy breaking back into the warehouse from the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark and stealing back the Ark? What does Roswell, New Mexico (of UFO fame, and stamped on the side of a box glimpsed here) have to do with anything? Where are the frickin' crystal skulls? Oh, and are you as excited to see this on May 22 as I am?

Indy is back!! The music gave me chills and then Harrison spoke and he was Indy. I guess dude will never be too old. Awesome!

Nix Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 02:35 AM EST

Well, the opening recaps were more than a bit portentous, but ... OMG IM SO HAPPY!!!1

Rob Grizzly Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:25 PM EST

Finally, I can relax. They had me worried there for about 6 months...

Henry Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 07:24 PM EST

Looks awesome.

kim in kentucky Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 07:09 PM EST

can't wait to see this on the big screen!

Daniel Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 06:15 PM EST

Aw, HELL yes.

T-Rex Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 05:09 PM EST

So what took so long? This looks fantastic. How many crappy Harrison Ford Movies have we endured over the past 19 years! It makes me a little angry.

Jen in Tenn Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 03:57 PM EST

Geek out, Julie! I want that LEGO set, too! Guess LEGO finally got the licensing, cuz they had an Indy-like character set previously (Adventure Joe or something like that). Maybe I can talk my kids into wanting the LEGO set for a birthday gift... I've already got them learning the theme song as part of their piano lessons... What fun!

Jen in Tenn Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

Trying SOOOO hard not to get my hopes up! Trailer makes this one look pretty good, w/ nice nods to our sentimental feelings for wonderful 'ol Indy. #1 & 3 were so great! Maybe THIS HALLOWEEN, people will recognize my kid's Indy costume! (I didn't even see Marion in the trailer, sadly. Love her!) As for not enough about Shia, I'm sure they don't want to give away their "big" (i.e., obvious) plot twist. As for National Treasure, I LOVE to see others copping the "feel" of Indy movies (and maybe teaching the kids a few history facts). The made-for-tv Librarian movies are also similar and fun for families. Hey, deep down, we all wish we could be as AWESOME as Indy!

Katy Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 02:55 PM EST

What's better than that?

Julie Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 02:37 PM EST

OMG!! I am so freakin excited! I seriously just bought the Lego Raiders of the Lost Ark set. Am I a total geek? Yes. But that movie still is one of my all time favorites. HF is still hot, crushin on him since I was 10 yrs old and saw Star Wars. I'm 40 now--so he can date me, right? That music still makes me all happy and shiny inside. LOVED the trailer and can't wait to see it!

Maggs Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 01:58 PM EST

Ive never wanted time to move faster than I do at this very moment, come on May 22! Ugh, it's a leap year so that one extra day of torture.

OCab Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 01:53 PM EST

"Note to Paramount: we all know who Indiana Jones is; just because it's been 19 years doesn't mean we need a refresher course."

Thats why its called a TEASER. I'm sure when the full length trailer comes out it'll be much more revealing

mozz Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 01:25 PM EST

I am officially excited! Cate Blanchett looks amazing!

Martha Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 01:23 PM EST

The slight increase in volume in that high-pitched sound you hear is my "eeeeeee!" being added to all the rest. Boy am I wicked excited to see this!

orville Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 01:20 PM EST

Oh, cool cool cool! Ah, thank you. This goes a long way to helping my completely craptastic day get better. Can't wait.

nathan Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 12:59 PM EST

Yaaaaahooooooooooo!!!! Why they haven't made about 10 of these I'll never know.

Nose Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 12:56 PM EST

Ford is hot, really, no matter what, but there's just something about him in his fedora and leather jacket. Yum!

Andrea Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 12:35 PM EST

Oh man, I've regressed to 1989 and I love it!! I am now officially excited about this movie, ridiculously so for a woman in her 30's, hahaha. Indy is still hot!

I was really pleased to see that they don't give the entire story away (the way most previews tend to these days) so it leaves us wanting more. I know where I'll be on May 22nd

what Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 12:27 PM EST

it looks pretty awesome, but was it just me or did the great indy theme seem a little weird at the very end when they brought up the title sequence. not throughout the whole trailer, but just the little bit at the end. maybe it's just me...either way. love it.

Auriana Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 12:16 PM EST

eeeeeee!!!! I can't wait!

And as a side note...yes, the Indus River Valley is considered one of the cradels of civilization.

Ryan Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 12:14 PM EST

I'll admit that I was only a little excited about this movie before. But now, this trailer makes me really excited to see it. Can't wait for May. With this and The Dark Knight, it's like 1989 all over again. And it will be nice to see two summer blockbusters that will be great for once.

JoeC Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 12:05 PM EST

I grew up in the 80's, and this trend of people revising their old glory(Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford) is not welcome. I skipped the Die Hard movies; no way am I seeing Harrison Ford stumble around as Indiana Jones. Time waits for no one, as the Stones sang.

Pslightly Psycho Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:58 AM EST

Some additional comments:

As I watched this trailer I couldn't help but be reminded of this last Christmas' blockbuster NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS. Clearly this Disney franchise is a rip-off of DA VINCI CODE and the Indy flicks; I sure hope this latest yarn will put Nicholas Cage and the gang to shame...

BrandonK Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:53 AM EST

EEEEEEE! I'm so excited!

Chris Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:39 AM EST

"Wait, he "saved the cradle of civilization"? That's what the Temple of Doom was? I thought civilization started in Iraq or Egypt, not India."

I remember from 7th grade Social Studies that there were FOUR "cradles of civilization" - Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China. Although saying he "saved the cradle" might be over-stating the case a bit...

monica Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:37 AM EST

they could've added a little more from shia and cate, but i guess indie will have to do for now. lol no, i liked it. especially the accidental window crash. it makes him seem like an average joe. i could totally see spiderman (from the 1st film) doing that by the way.

EM Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:35 AM EST

That looks wonderful. I, too, am 14 and at the movies with my dad at the beach! IJKCS comes out while we are going to the beach this year. I'm so excited! Maybe daddy will go with us again!

And HF looks great even though he's 19 years older!

yothere Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:30 AM EST

Got a laugh from the windshield crash. Loved the gunmen surrounding the car, Indy's shadow on the car , etc etc. I like those kind of Spielberg storyboard moments; the big cgi metal/stone trap not so much. And of course - the great music rekindles all good feelings of the past ones. Yes, I'll go even if Ford does seem a little tireder-slower (presumably in character). He looks great though. :)

cookiemac Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:23 AM EST

eeeekkkkkkk! (oh did that high pitched screech come from me and my excitement?!)

GeeMoney Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:17 AM EST

Can't wait.... looks good (and Shia LaBeouf is really hot)!

Pslightly Psycho Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 10:52 AM EST

"Whip" smart.

Can't wait. Spielberg. Lucas. Ford. Together again.

Best. Combo. Ever.

Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 10:50 AM EST

Eh... I don't know. If it didn't have the theme behind, I don't think it would have been nearly as exciting. I withhold judgement as yet.

mark in nyc Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 10:48 AM EST

Are you fracking kidding me! That teaser was amazing, my heart started swelling from the intro of the music.
I can not wait!
Can already tell it will be better then Die Hard 12, Rambo 15, or Rocky 2000

PoliB Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 10:48 AM EST

Can't wait for the movie- yay!!

Ben Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 10:21 AM EST

Can't say I'm not pumped, but I hate the "escalation" of sequels. Indy's appeal is that he's just a regular dude - why does the first half of the trailer have to build him into a superhero?

Tony Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 10:06 AM EST

Indy crashing through the windshield of that truck (accidentally, of course) and taking out the two guys in it was a classic Indiana Jones moment.

I'm starting to actually get excited for this one.

Emoney Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 09:55 AM EST

Super excited. Love that Harrison Ford is able to acknowledge his age with humor, then still be a bada**.

PS Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 09:51 AM EST

Looks way awesome. The humor is still there, definitely a big plus.
