Happy Birthday, Gabrielle Anwar! (We still remember that tango!)

I rarely think of Gabrielle Anwar, who turns 38 today, but when I do, I feel the need to relive her Scent of a Woman tango with Al Pacino (below). That leads me to this question: What are your favorite dance scenes in non-dance movies? This is definitely one of mine. Pacino tosses her around just enough to make you believe that she didn't know what step was next.

Madonna in Swept Away - a yellow dress, tussled hair, sex appeal galore.

Jill Tue, Feb 5, 2008 at 09:35 AM EST

Michael J. Fox and Julie Warner slow dancing to "Crazy" in Doc Hollywood.

Also, any dancing that Mike Myers does as Austin Powers.

First time I ever saw Aidan Quinn was in the 1984 movie "Reckless" with Daryl Hannah. His rebellious character's unorthodox dancing in the prom scene was unforgettable!

MIRA SORVINO, LISA KUDROW & ALAN CUMMING IN "ROMY & MICHELE'S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION" TO "TIME AFTER TIME"!!!!

african anteater dance!
also i first thought of true lies - the tango with jamie lee curtis. I think the most suprising dance was little miss sunshine, though

I just ordered "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken" on my Blockbuster account! I love that movie, love love love it!

Dance scene in a non-dance movie...um...I don't know, I can't stop thinking about how awesome "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken" is. Why aren't we talking about our favorite Gabrielle Anwar moments?

Meg Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 08:47 PM EST

Totally random but I like Ronnie's tribal dancing at the prom scene in Can't Buy Me Love.

kana Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 05:43 PM EST

The 'Thriller' dance in '13 Going on 30' was super fun in an otherwise 'meh' movie.

Lee Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 05:17 PM EST

Right on daisyj! Pierce Brosnen and Rene Russo in "The Thomas Crown Affair" were the two I thought of first. "Pulp Fiction"'s dance was awesome too.

Eric Friedmann Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz in THE MASK. Any excuse to stare at Cameron's delicious body!

jdsmiley Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 04:36 PM EST

She's outstanding on "Burn Notice" (though there's very little dancing).

Rachel K Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 04:28 PM EST

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

James Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 04:16 PM EST

Heath Ledger and Shannyn Sossamon in "A Knight's Tale"!

mscisluv Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 04:07 PM EST

To Em - I don't think Footloose can count as a non-dance movie...

Katie Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 03:57 PM EST

I have to say, I loved Gabrielle Anwar in Wild Hearts Can't be Broken. Even as an adult, I can't help but get caught up in the suspense of the story, and when she makes that blind dive at the end, I still find myself holding my breath!

Em Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 03:43 PM EST

What about the dance from Urban Cowboy? Or FOOTLOOSE??? And does anyone remember the dance scene from Prom night in "She's All That"? I thought it looked like fun!

Steevo Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

And let's not forget Little Miss Sunshine and the adorable array of stripper moves that Alan Arkin taught to Abigail Breslin (the latter of whom really needs to find a way to Websterize herself -- her cuteness is dwindling fast!)...

Marci Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 03:04 PM EST

Pulp Fiction, hands down, no contest!

paige Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 02:57 PM EST

nah i think Pulp Fiction takes this award.

Catherine Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

Two words: True Lies!!!

Ceballos Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 02:44 PM EST

Some very good ones have been mentioned.

Jon Heder in "Napoleon Dynamite", Schwarzenegger and Tia Carrerre in "True Lies" (what is it about tangos?), Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston in "Along Came Polly" (funny stuff), merengue scene in "My Blue Heaven" with Steve Martin (very funny stuff), and the "Thriller" dance scene in "13 Going on 30" is just fun.

I don't know that any of those are the best, but I know what the worst is: "Spider Man 3".

Silv Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 02:42 PM EST

Agree with daisyj. Russo & Brosnan came to mind immediately. Also liked the amusing tango in True Lies. And of course, Napoleon Dynamite.

Eric Friedmann Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 02:40 PM EST

Me, too - PULP FICTION!

ns Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 02:26 PM EST

Pulp Fiction. Travolta. Thurman. Case closed.

evie Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 02:25 PM EST

um, what about our favorite Gabrielle Anwar moments? Like when she jumps on that horse after being going blind in Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. And Jake Ryan does a slo-mo cheer....

daisyj Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

Rene Russo and Pierce Brosnan in The Thomas Crown Affair. Sexy, intense and the perfect way to play out the interaction between their characters.

Cara Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 02:10 PM EST

Easy--that super-hot Brangelina tango in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith". Oh baby.
