Oh, no! Not another "I'm F***ing..." song!

Feb 27, 2008, 10:21 AM | by Gary Susman

Categories: Celebrity Couples, Things That Make Me Die Inside, Viral Video!!!

Okay, this whole "I'm F---ing [Movie Star Name Here]" song parody thing has got to stop. The first one was funny, the second was over the top, and now this one, featuring Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen (whose actual task here is to plug the movie they're currently shooting for Kevin Smith), simply beats the joke into the ground. Watch if you must (language is uncensored and very NSFW), then tell me if I'm right and the novelty has worn off, or if I'm wrong and there's still life in this premise.

I thought the original Sarah and Matt video was brilliant. I laughed hysterically. I thoroughly enjoyed the Ben and Jimmy response. Fantastic. Even though I love Seth Rogen, this was SO STUPID. Pathetic. Not funny. Super lame. I hope no one else decides to cash in on the popularity of the originals; it takes away from their awesomeness.

Raven_Moon Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 08:00 PM EST

This was seriously stupid. The Matt Damon one was funny because of its originality. The Ben Affleck one was funny (though not as much) because it was in context & a response to the other. This parody seems played out & lacks creativity.

BrandonK Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 07:26 PM EST

I think that could have been funny if Jimmy hadn't done his video, but it's not as clever or unexpected as the other two.

James Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 06:54 PM EST

I'm waiting now for "I'm f***ing a milkshake"

Rachel K Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 05:41 PM EST

So yeah, this is getting a tad old and overdone but the part with the otter made me laugh and I like how it was directed by m. night shyamalan at the end. Plus, Seth Rogen nuzzling her shoulder while she sang I might have giggled.

Joey Jo Jo Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 05:23 PM EST

I hated the Ben Affleck one but this is worse. The original was the best. Anything else is just sad because its unoriginal.

Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 05:22 PM EST

This was so stupid.

Kev Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 03:37 PM EST

Full credit for being unbleeped. I wish Jimmy Kimmel show would upload similiar versions to YT or wherever.

Phil Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 03:12 PM EST

Cue up Dolla Feat. Tay Dizm & T-Pain "Who The F*@K Is That?" When I got this urban club track back in the Fall, I was like, Ok, Its got TPain on it, but what radio station would ever play even a cleaned up version of this song? But I guess with all these viral videos so prominently keeping theme with who's screwing who, I'm guessing this song has an actual shot at mainstream success now! Kinda ironic the same label, Jive that promoted the Eamon track "F*@K IT! (I Don't Want You Back)" is also promoting this song...

joanna Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 03:03 PM EST

Few funny moments, but you're right Susman -- it's played out! NO MORE PARODIES PLEASE!!!!!

pai Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

Best thing about it is the directorial credit. Now that's funny.

Amino Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 02:26 PM EST

I don't know that this whole thing was played out prior to this video, although this entry goes a ways towards making it played out. I think its simply too soon. Before this there were only two videos, the original and the follow-up. You have to wait for it to become played out and unfunny before you can parody it, otherwise the parody just doesn't ring true.

This reeks of being a lame cash-in.

Dave Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 02:09 PM EST

I'm with Gary Susman. The premise was a one-trick joke and doesn't need another variation. It just ain't that funny.
Kevin Smith kinda sucks.

Dan Daoust Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 02:06 PM EST

Just hearing Elizabeth Banks say "f***" that many times is enough for me, thanks.

ProgGrrl Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 01:53 PM EST

I liked it, it was funny - and the un-bleeped nature of it was an added bonus. The bizarre appearance of Tracy Lords. Plus the fact that Seth Rogen, Liz "junk in the trunk" Banks and Kevin Smith are very, very funny people. Bad timing perhaps but it works for me. Last chance to rehash the "know I'm gay" joke!

Mindy Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST

It's just not funny, regardless of whether it's a parody or not.

Kate Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 01:45 PM EST

I enjoyed the Seth Rogen one simply because of the joy he kept expressing when he said that Banks was sleeping with him. I could have done without the end with Kevin Smith but it is what it is.

Sven Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 01:25 PM EST

It is fun for what it is, so enjoy it. No it's not as clever as the original, but then what is?

Nose Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 01:24 PM EST

Ok, I'm a KS fan, so maybe I'm a little biased, but this one succeeds because he can afford to be raunchier and leave in the F word where Kimmel could not. Not that you need swear words to be funny, but not having to bleep every second word was nice. Having said all of that, though, hopefully, this is where it all ends.

Amber Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 01:12 PM EST

It was funny the first time. Now I'm just sick of it.

Claire Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 12:39 PM EST

it's totally a victim of bad timing. it was obviously done as a direct parody of the Sarah/Matt song, and they probably didn't know about the Jimmy/Ben song at all. I think it's pretty funny if you only look at it as a parody of the original, and the otter bit was good. It's nice to not have to hear a million BLEEP noises throughout, as well.

pai Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 12:31 PM EST

It's overdone, but I still laughed. (And Sarah's still rules.)

Michael Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 12:23 PM EST

Okay guys, it's easy to say that the joke has been played out, but frankly it's a victim of bad timing that this one surfaced right after the Ben Affleck video. If you actually watch the video for what it is, it's pretty darn funny. While they rip off the song itself, it works because their whole angle is different. It's not a song about telling your significant other that you're cheating on them - this time it's a song about a girl trying to sleep her way to the top and doing a bad job. And the chemistry between Rogen and Banks is oddly good. So relax...the whole "Kevin Smith hasn't been funny since [insert your own favorite Kevin Smith movie here]" thing is what's really been played out.

carr Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 12:17 PM EST

the matt and ben ones were funny and original. there was a continuing joke to it. the back and forth of it was the best part. matt's was original and hilarious and unpredictable. ben's was over the top in a good, funny way.
this one...ugh. even if it's parodying the joke, it doesn't do a good job. it's just not funny. the writing of it is bad. It was "let's just use these words because we can." seth rogen looks like he's trying too hard. they just decided to take a funny thing and absolutely kill it.
inevitable of course, but...still...

Martha Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 12:13 PM EST

It is pretty done and over-the-top, but you know, c'mon, it's Kevin Smith. Have to agree with Ep about including Craig Robinson, who is awesome. Nice job on that one, Kev. And the otter reference was just bizarre enough to get me to laugh.

Sarah A Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 12:05 PM EST

The Matt Damon video was by far the funniest. Original and hilarious, but this one, ehhh not so much.

Chaddogg Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 11:39 AM EST

Apparently this is not played out...the Popwatch story below this is Mariah Carey essentially singing "I'm F*&#ing Kenneth the Page"

Broadway Baby Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 11:30 AM EST

I'm with Ep Sato in that we may not be getting the joke but all the same, it's pretty hard to watch.

Sara Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 11:28 AM EST

I think they're all funny in their own way. The Kevin Smith version wasn't the best, but it was kinda cheeky and, you know, could actually use the F word, so it gets points with me for profanity.

Snarf Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 11:22 AM EST

The shark, she's been jumped. Better kick that horse again there Smith, I think I saw it twitch.

James Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 11:15 AM EST

I was open to the possibility that this might be funny. It was painful.

SAK Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 11:11 AM EST

it was funny when it was Sarah and Jimmy becuz of the whole "Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel" thing. THIS IS JUST STUPID!! Get a life... TWO BIG FAT NOBODYS

Ep Sato Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 11:10 AM EST

This struck me as a tongue in cheek response to all the "I'm F*cking such and such" videos. In that vein, it succeeds. I mean, it strikes me that KS is basically saying in his own way "these videos are friggin' stupid. Look how easy it is to make one, and I even got M. Night Shyalaman to direct"

Credit also to KS for giving Craig Robinson a cameo. The brother's really talented and I'm glad his star is starting to shine.

Overall, not that funny but was amused by the way they've made fun of the genre. Hopefully, this will be the last one.

As for KS, I thought Clerks 2 was pretty good and will hold out judgement on his next flick. Seems to like he's gone back to his roots (talkie movies with tons of pop culture references), so there's hope.

Plus, the South Park guys demonstrated that a porn parody can be funny with Orgazmo, so there is some precedent.

Green Gummi Bear Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 11:04 AM EST

Wow, that was pretty bad. I mean, they don't even try. The only laugh I had was the otter comment, that was kinda funny. But even if there wasn't a history with JKL, it would still be bad (rather than bad and overplayed). You know if Rogan's carrer starts going downward, I think we just saw the exact moment it happened

Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 11:04 AM EST

Yeah, I'm over it already. It's going to become like "yo mama so fat" jokes...everyone wants to one-up the other guy and it just stops being funny.

Rich Haller Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 10:58 AM EST

I agree. This is the first of this kind of thing I've seen and I killed it after less than a minute. It's stupid.

Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 10:39 AM EST

Kevin Smith stopped being funny around the time of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and he stopped being relevant around the time of Clerks 2. It's no surprise that he has to resort to this sort of crap to promote himself these days. This is what happens when a good indie / geek-friendly filmmaker sells out.

KG Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 10:33 AM EST

ok not funny anymore
