Why I'm watching: 'Scott Baio is 46... and Pregnant'

Scottbaiois46_l You may think it's impossible for me to be objective -- since I've been in bed with Scott Baio and all -- but I'm gonna say it anyway: the season premiere of VH1's Scott Baio is 46... and Pregnant (Sundays, 10 p.m.) was highly entertaining.

Watch these two scenes (again) before you try to argue with me: Scott accompanying his pregnant fiancée, Renée, to the gynecologist's office (click here to see him in the fetal position). Scott and Renée house-hunting (click here).

To be clear: I'm not suggesting that this is "reality." But I do believe that we're seeing the real Baio. He's a guy who'll do stuff -- like attend daddy classes -- just for the stories that he'll have to tell his buddies afterwards. And he'll always want those stories to be as amusing as possible, with or without cameras present. That's why it makes perfect sense to me that he left Renée two seconds after she told him that she was pregnant to call an "emergency meeting" with his friends. He wanted them to witness his freakout.

So are you back for more Baio this season? (For me, it's worth it just for the awesome '80s music used in the premiere.) Or have you moved on, like Johnny V. needs to?

I think that Scott Baio is adorable, however he is very self-absorbed and questions everything that he knows he can do, but refuses to. I think he needs to be more involved with Renee. Renee is adorable and is so kind to him. He just needs to chill out a bit, breathe a bit. Being a father is not the end of your life or the end of your world, but it is a new life with a great responsibility. He freaks out and he should be taking time to enjoy every moment with Renee and brand new baby Bailey. She is adorable. I have to add that Scott Baio is still very hot!

Renee makes reference to having a daughter previously, but where is this daughter now?

I love this show! Even just hearing the title makes me giggle! His freak-outs are what you would think happens during any males' mid-life crisis, this just happens to get caught on camera! TV Watch Please! Or at least a mini-TV Watch!

I watched the free first ep on iTunes. I thought it was funny and sweet. The part with the house was hysterical - wouldn't every man like to find a house where he could hide out in?
I'm tuning in again this season.

Baio is an immature man-child turd. When is this trend of getting grade-Z "celebrities" on "reality shows" going to end?

Ally Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 09:50 AM EST

Ok, 12 people (13 maybe) are watching the show and feel strongly enough to comment. WHY IS THIS SHOW ON and who cares about Scott Ba--- whatever??

mio Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 10:33 PM EST

I like it, but the hubby found Baio to be completely worthless. Then again, Mr. Mio couldn't wait to be a dad and can't understand Scotty's mixed feelings.

I love this show and had heard rumors of a follow up season but forgot. It's cool to see Scott as he deals with finally growing up. You had to know there was a stand-up guy in there after all. He was just waiting to break out.

Bertie Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 05:40 PM EST

I thought it was so cool when they were hitting the golfballs. Scott had asked Jason if he was sincerely excited to go home and see his wife and kids and he said honestly yes. He's right, it's a totally different level. I'm female, but talk about a life changing experience. Johnny V just drives me nuts!! Nice house they got by the way.

TSD Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 05:25 PM EST

Yes! I love this show. To me, this is the most sincere of reality shows out there. I don't think Scott Baio is faking his freak outs right now. Though, we know the outcome because the birth and wedding were publicized, but it's great to go back watch how he deals with it all from the beginning.

Sharlin Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 05:12 PM EST

was pregnant, not born, sorry lol.

Sharlin Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 05:12 PM EST

I think his freakout after he found out Renee wa sborn was super genuine. This show is great. A real reality show. Gives Vh1 a bit of credibility to make quality shows and this has made me like Scott Baio a lot! I hope he gets to do more movies and tv.

realgenius Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 03:55 PM EST

This show does rock.

Hell-to-the-yeah,Mandi! I think Scott Baio is amazing and will shortly be type cast in the next Oxgen/Lifetime Movie as their new go to guy. Can we talk about how tail he use to get which I can't believe cause he is a bit of a dou***** not that charming. He if gives one more "forehead" kiss I think I will vomit. Love you Scott Baio

Dawn Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 02:41 PM EST

I with you on this one, Mandi. Who knew Scott Baio woud be just so likeable and charming ... This show makes me smile.

Heather Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 02:37 PM EST

I wish I could stop watching it but I find it highly entertaining. Watching him panic in the doctor's office was priceless.

Kris Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 02:33 PM EST

I am amazed at what a (formerly) despicable but thoroughly entertaining guy Scott Baio is. The best part about the show, though, is its soundtrack--great, unexpected 80's music that I love but had kind of forgotten. It's awesome.
