Monster.com produces an ad with legs!

If you're anything like me, most commercial breaks zip past you in a blissful, DVR-driven, fast-forward blur. But last week during Idol, I slowed down to watch this strange, poetic spot from Monster.com, and I have to say: Despite the abomination that was Cavemen, I'm kinda hoping one of the networks rolls the dice and builds an entire dramedy around the big-legged dude and his quirky European village. What say you? Are you voting 'Yay' or 'Nay' on Legs coming to network TV for the Fall '08 season?

I love the Giant! Love the Village! The Atmosphere! The Singing! Especially the strange language! Make it into a movie!

Poetry in motion. Refreshingly creative in every sense. Would really like to know who the director and writer of this brilliant ad are. The ad deserves the highest award avaliable.

I sang that song in elementary school (1960 - 1965). Valerie, valera, valerie, valer rah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, valerie, valera, my knapsack on my bak. What a cherished memory :-)

The music is from the Obernkirchen Children's Choir - The Happy Wanderer

OK, I like the commercial, but what's the name of the song?

Heck with the legs. First thing I noticed was that he's speaking Esperanto.

Has to be the mos creative and effective commercial I have seen in decades! The message left behind is precisely "there's a job for ecveryone out there" and it is not just the commercial with the guy and his big legs....you remember monster.com!

Congratulations to the creators!!!

Hands down, best commercial ever. Funny, smart, adorable, sci-fi, storybook, fantasy, all rolled up into one. All other commercials are not worthy.

This is the best piece of entertainment I've seen in forever. And the fact that it actually connects and sells and makes a great case for monster, well that's just gravy.

I love this spot. It's by far the best ad I've seen in years. It's such a beautiful piece of storytelling. Whoever worked on it deserves a raise!

Series, no. Commercial, no. I think the commercial Monster did with the people on the tracks is good, but this one misses the mark. Besides, the actual website for Monster is horrible! I am so sick and tired of trying to find a job and seeing all the bogus jobs or that infernal University of Phoenix application!

Martha Tue, Jan 22, 2008 at 10:41 AM EST

No way. Cool ad (and cool ad series) but doesn't have the legs to make a decent TV pilot. (Heh heh, get it, legs? I crack myself up.)

It didn't take long for the commercials to start being more entertaining than the tv shows. Please bring us new shows (!) and, no, not about men with giant thighs. Awesome and effective as an ad, though.

10 seconds left in the commercial

Me: Why'd everything shake?
Me(again): ohh, he turns the world!

pretty cool, must say

bootsycolumbia Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 09:25 PM EST

I could see it as part of a documentary/reality series about people with really weird or unusual jobs, but just as a series about the dude with the big thighs. Nope. Don't think so. But it's a great ad.

ladyli1 Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 05:48 PM EST

now that was funny! but a series? no.

Raven_Moon Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 05:17 PM EST

I'm going to have to go with nay. It's a cute commercial, the first time, but as a series...no.

Lori Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 02:05 PM EST

Yeah, great idea for an ad campaign, but not so much for a series. I missed this little gem while ff'ing on my DVR.

Dan Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 12:12 PM EST

Brilliant. I'd love to know more. What other kinds of jobs might be out there for people with abnormal abilities. I think you're onto something...

Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 11:53 AM EST

I had to avert my eyes from those freakish thighs. I'm serious.

Melanie Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 11:45 AM EST

Um, ew, No!

Random537 Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 11:17 AM EST

No way! Those legs grossed me out. (Although, I too was intrigued by the strange commercial and watched, AND remembered it was monster.com, so they did their job well!)
