Like, ohmygod, NKOTB are back! (Well, maybe.)

Categories: Music, Rumor Control, Who Else Remembers This?

Nkotb_l Dig out your banana clips, dust off that "I (heart) Joey!!" pin and get ready... cuz the New Kids on the Block are getting back together!!

Okay, that might not be totally true. The Internet is chock full of reports and rumors that the Boston boy band is planning a reunion of sorts. But the details are sketchy. Are they embarking on a reunion tour? Recording an album? Or is this all just a big publicity stunt for a new reality show called "Making the Band: NKOTB Style"? (I just made that title up. There is no such show. Although I'd probably watch it... Fox, call me!)

At this point, who knows? Danny Wood has posted blogs on his MySpace page denying the rumors. But the band's official website has coincidentally reemerged after quite some time in the dark, playing a "new" song by the Kids. PopWatch contacted several publicists and managers associated with the band and its members, but those who responded declined to comment.

Whether the rumors are true or not, the real question remains: Does anyone even care if NKOTB gets back together? Do you really want to see 40-year-old Jordan Knight doing the "Hangin' Tough" dance? Can Joey McIntyre even hit those high notes in "Please Don't Go Girl" anymore? And is this what Donnie Wahlberg's career has come to? Who would actually go to these hypothetical shows?

Well, me, for one. I'd totally go. No, seriously. If for no other reason than to witness the absolute hilarity of seeing a bunch of thirtysomething women regress to a mass of screaming girls again. I'm not judging — I'd be right there with them, probably shrieking "I love you, Joey Mac!!" just like I did back in 7th grade at my first concert ever. Stop laughing. You know I wouldn't be the only one.

So if the rumors are true... would any of you PopWatchers plunk down the cash to catch Donnie, Danny, Jordan, Jon, and Joey one last time?

katiej1980 Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 09:05 AM EST

I went to the Chicago show on October 24th and loved it!!!!! The best concert I have ever been to!!!

french Sun, Oct 12, 2008 at 01:08 PM EST

I'm really happy guys are back

nkotbFAN Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 07:59 AM EST

I just saw their first concert in Toronto last night, and it was AWESOME. They are back, and here to stay!!

DoonieRocks Thu, May 22, 2008 at 05:11 AM EST

I'm a young NKOTB fan. I was four and going to marrie Donnie!lol Now 20 years later you bet you butt I'm FINALLY going to see them. I would not miss it for the world. I was so excited when I heard!

Trish from Memphis Thu, Apr 3, 2008 at 05:21 PM EST

OMG did you start this revolution? I read your article in EW a few weeks ago, and when you said it was a wish more than a reality I was like 'damn' and then I found out today that they will be on the Today show tomorrow! It's happening! I am totally bringing my little sister (29) and our two seven year olds! They love the Jonas Bros and HSM so they would love to see their mom's first boyband!!!

Veronica Davis Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 06:54 PM EST

They may face ridicule because they are older... but if you were around when they were the source of a phenomenon, you would know they faced all that and more at the height of their career. Do you really think they don't expect that? Us real fans will be there if/when we can financially -- thank you very much.

HEATHER STODDARD Wed, Mar 19, 2008 at 07:12 PM EST

I THINK NKOTB SHOULD MEAN NEW KIND OF TASTE BUDS. THAT MEANS TASTE OUR NEW MUSIC IT OUR WAY OUR OWN. I BEEN WANTED YOU TO COME BACK FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS NOW. IM 34 MY DAUGHTER IS 9 SHE LOVE YOU GUY TO. I GAVE HER SOME OF MY NKOTB SUFF TO HER NOW YOU GOT 2 STODDARD FANS. OLD, NEW LOVE YOU TAKE CARE

xtinee Fri, Feb 29, 2008 at 09:08 PM EST

i would LOOOVVEEEE to see them, just outta curiosity just like all the rest!!! i have found myself checking on the NKOTB website once in a while to see about any new updates!!! It would be SO much fun for me and my girlfriends to re-live a fun time in our lives!!!

JenFromSac Thu, Feb 21, 2008 at 04:08 PM EST

Oh I would sooooo see them in concert & I'd be screaming with the other 30-somethings. So long adult life cred & hello flourescent New Kid shirt! I'm going back to my '89 roots. LOL!

DIZZY Mon, Feb 11, 2008 at 06:05 PM EST

I WAS THERE IN 89 AND AM A 80S FREEK. ANYONE 30 SOMTHING WHO SAYS THE DIDNT LISTEN TO THEM ARE ONLY LIEING TO THEMSELVES. LETS BRING ON!!!!!!

Shannon Sat, Feb 9, 2008 at 01:31 AM EST

I would love to see NKOTB in concert. But like other people have commented, how likely is this to happen considering the fact that the majority of the guys have family obligations and careers to deal with in addition to the stress of recording, performing and dealing with the press. Of all of those factors, dealing with the media has got to be the hardest.

I do have to admit though, I was glad that I didn't go to the Face the Music concert in Toronto when NKOTB toured here last. The reason being, Jonathan had left the tour by then. I really hope that he decides to go through with joining the rest of the group provided that it does not have any negative effect on his health.

I actually like the new song that they're promoting on the website.

I admit, I feel old this year. I think it comes from turning 30. It's the first time that I've actually admitted to feeling old. I can't believe that this year will be the 20th anniversary of Hangin' Tough. Where did the time go?

Kim Sat, Feb 9, 2008 at 12:34 AM EST

My first concert was the Coca-Cola tour with the New Kids and I screamed so much that I had no voice the next day! :o)
I traveled down memory lane as I watched the videos on their website.
It would be great to see them perform live again!
Jordan is my favorite!

Katie Tue, Feb 5, 2008 at 03:24 PM EST

I'm still a little bitter since I found out that Jon Knight lied about why he wasn't on their last tour (he didn't fall off any horse, he just quit), but I'd still go, for curiousity's sake if nothing else.

Liz Sat, Feb 2, 2008 at 08:31 PM EST

I would so totally go. Feeling silly and a bit embarassed but you know what? Those were the most memorable years of my life. So what if I'm a thirty something now. Maybe I'll rock my feathered hairstyle and day glow outfit! :D

Calla Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at 03:59 PM EST

i would jump at the opportunity to see them reunited, but only if it was all 5 of them. if one of them decided not to do it i wouldn't be interested.

Gretchen Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at 01:02 PM EST

I saw the news somewhere and I immediately went to the website and signed up for the newsletter.

Lely Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at 12:53 PM EST

Helll yeah....I would go see the New Kids. I hope it's all five of them, but if it's only 3, I'll still go, but not with my pins and stuff. I hope I can find someone that would go with me 'cause I know I couldn't drag my husband to this one haha

CD Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at 09:04 AM EST

I couldn't stomach that.

Nell Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at 04:03 AM EST

I never got to go in junior high either! i instead had to be content to collect all their stuff.. so i would FOR SURE grab a lost opportunity if they reunited!

Carrie Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 09:45 PM EST

I didn't plunk down the cash the first time. Ugh...

coffeegirl Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 08:51 PM EST

Marilinda and Jenny, I was at the Ohio State Fair too (when I was 12)! I was totally obsessed about NKOTB, and I look back and cringe now. I agree it was not about the music. They were just cute boys, and I was 12. Now I listen to alternative/indie rock. I wouldn't be caught dead at a reunion concert!!!!

Valerie Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 07:31 PM EST

I'd go in a heartbeat... I'd probably leave my buttons at home and force my husband to go (kid at grandma's house). Maybe I could convince my sister to leave her kids with grandma and go with me!

Emily Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 06:15 PM EST

Jill- it was my first concert experience too and I was also in 7th grade! I saw them in Baton Rouge, LA, and we somehow got backstage passes, so I got to HUG Joey... aren't you jealous!? :) I don't know if I would go again or not... I imagine it would be pretty fun with a group of girlfriends! Last year I went to a "Dancing with the Stars" tour show and Joey was in it, and sang like 3 songs. He sounded pretty good to me, but he's a little cheesy. I will definitely keep a watch out for any reunion news.

Cato Chris Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 05:32 PM EST

Would I plunk down the cash? In a New York minute I would! My fiance's scorn be d@mned!

rachel Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 04:50 PM EST

I'd be there screaming and singing along! I never got to go when I was obsessed with them in elementary school, so I would definitely jump at the chance to relive the NKOTB glory!

Jenny Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 04:35 PM EST

My friend and I also were at the New Kids concert at the Ohio State Fair. We waited for like 8 hours to see them. People got trampled running to get seats. Total New Kids Craziness!

Brookers Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 04:33 PM EST

I would absolutely be there. And I would be screaming my head off, just like I did the three times I saw them in concert in 7th grade. There's nothing wrong with a little nostalgia, right? And I could take my daughters with me, so that I could say that I just went because they wanted to. Do you think anyone would buy that?

jenn Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 03:10 PM EST

I would be there in a FLASH. I know they'll do it right. And YES-- Joe can sing those high notes. Check You Tube. He sings a "grown up" version of Please Don't Go Girl and it's fantastic. And I happen to really like the new song on their website!

They still have hard core fans out there. I hope the rumors are true!!!!!

Sara Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 02:57 PM EST

I would totally be there. I have the greatest hits.. and went to see Joey on his solo tour, and saw Jordan open for NSYNC. My only question is can they get Jonathan to do it, doesn't he have like a real life now? I was only like 5 when I went to a New Kids concert... so to see them and be able to understand what is going on would be awesome!

marilinda Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

if this recreates my experience a the Ohio State Fair when i was nine, then ABSOLUTELY will i be there!!

i love you donnie!!

AJ Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 02:47 PM EST

I would also throw down some money to recreate my first concert & scream my adoration of Joey!

Lesley Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 02:25 PM EST

Count me in! I've been listening to my Greatest Hits CD since I heard the news. I never got to see them in their heyday, so I think it'd be a total blast! Good on' em!

Katy Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

Hey, I loved NKOTB as much as the next girl on the block (I HEART DONNIE), but it was never, EVER, about the music. You couldn't drag me to a reunion show.

Katy Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

Hey, I loved NKOTB as much as the next girl on the block (I HEART DONNIE), but it was never, EVER, about the music. You couldn't drag me to a reunion show.

Working Girl Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 01:44 PM EST

I went to see Jordan Knight in concert at Culture Club two years ago, and it was freakin awesome. Bring on the reunion!

Traci Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 01:20 PM EST

I saw them when I was around 8 or 9 in concert. I was a huge fan. I had the posters, buttons, etc. I also belonged to the fanclub. I have alot of good memories from that time. I think it would be fun to see them again!

B Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 12:58 PM EST

I love, love, love NKOTB and have been waiting for news like this for years. I just hope it's for real so my 30 something friends and I can start planning our girls night out! NKOTB OR BUST.

nichole Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 12:58 PM EST

I saw them twice when I was in sixth grade and their music is still a guilty pleasure. I would totally go see them in concert again.

J Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 12:46 PM EST

First, only Jonathan is close to 40 (39). Secondly, I would totally go. I am 28 and the last time they came to Japan, my teacher (Hey Ms. O'Dwyer) arranged a school trip. My mom refused to let me go (still think she was totally jealous!). I would go just to satisfy my pre-teen fantasies. Third, I'm surprised Danny is warming up to this idea now. I remember on "Where are they now?" he refused to talk to the host.

AJ Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 12:16 PM EST

Heck yeah, I'd plunk down the $ to see them again! I saw them when I was 16 and it was such a fun show. Their music is still "guilty pleasure" listening for me. As far as Danny saying it's not true...they should dump him, he was always the 'weak leak' IMHO. Just make sure Jonathan is there, he was so dreamy lol.

Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 12:07 PM EST

Who else feels incredibly old right now?

Emoney Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 11:58 AM EST

I was desperately uncool as a 13 year old because I really didn't "get" the NKOTB thing. Still don't. So, no, not for me.

arashae Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 11:56 AM EST

Who *wouldn't* want to see that!? I will be first in line. I never got to see them at the height of their fame, and I would definitely jump on the opportunity now. The only thing that could make it better is if they did a reunion tour with Tiffany.

Anne Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 11:37 AM EST

I never got to go to their concert when I was younger (my parents said no) so I will TOTALLY go now! It'd be fun to get some of my middle school friends together and go for nostalgia's sake!

CC Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 11:34 AM EST

I would totally go. It would be like going back to those junior high years! I seen Jordan Knight a few years back and it was hilarious!

RedRidingHood Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

I'd buy some of their music, for sure. NKOTB defined my middle-school years. I went to at least 3 concerts, and by 8th grade I wore nothing but New Kids t-shirts to school every day of the week. My devotion was scary, but I think that it was a healthy band to be into and it was just part of my growing up. No real boys were interested in me, but that didn't bother me because I had Joe and he was hotter than any "real" boy at school anyway.

miv Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 10:51 AM EST

I am so there! Yes, I am almost 30 as well as many people on here, but I never got to see them in their heyday, so I will be there with bells on now! Women at my office are even excited.

Heather Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 10:19 AM EST

I would be there in a heartbeat. The chances are I'd end up laughing the entire time, but I never did get to go to one of their concerts when I was 13. I'm due. (Plus the fact that Jon is still as cute as ever. Gotta see that in person!)

Amber Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 10:03 AM EST

I was obsessed with them in the fifth grade....and I would TOTALLY go to their concert today.

Laney Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 09:44 AM EST

Oh, I am so there, even though I'm now in my 30s.

Sara Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 08:37 AM EST

I would definitely be there. I even dusted off my 'Hangin' Tough Tour 89-90' jacket!!! :-). I'm ready!!!

JoeC Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 08:36 AM EST

As a non-fan, I think it would be interesting to see them back together, if only because it would be funny to watch as a bunch of forty-somethings called themselves New Kids, lol.

Jenni Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 07:48 AM EST

Now maybe I can finally marry Jordan Knight!!!!!!!

Camille Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 11:51 PM EST

My friend totally hooked up with Donnie in a hot tub back in the day. Now, she's a mom of 3... I just don't know if we can go back...

Rebekah Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

Definitely there. My first NKOTB concert was in 1989. That would be crazy if I were to see them 20 years later.

Mary Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 08:58 PM EST

Oh I hope so much this rumor is true...as long as the tickets are somewhat reasonable and the distance is somewhat close, I'm there!

Mrs.JoeyMac Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 08:55 PM EST

YES! I would be there in a heartbeat, along with a slew of 30 year old friends. We've been singing the songs since we heard the rumors. I saw Joey McIntyre last year when he was touring for his Talk to Me album and he was amazing. He did all his own music but sang Please Don't Go Girl at the end and I almost couldn't hear him over all the screaming. It was a ton of fun and I'd love to see them all back together again. I'm from Boston so they're near and dear to us.

Nix Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 08:45 PM EST

Re: Donnie -- Yes, and that's the tragic part, since he's a better actor than his little brother. Oh Johnny Drama.

Willowbear Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 08:41 PM EST

I will definitely be there, I still have a piece of the t-shirt that Donnie Wahlberg threw into the crowd during the Hanging Tough tour... if my mother can still adore Donnie Osmond, I can still swoon a bit for NKOTB.

Maria Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 08:31 PM EST

Jill, if you need a concert buddy, let me know. Because I have been giddy since hearing the news. And I'm 30!

Mimi Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 08:15 PM EST

I wouldn't go pay (with my parents') money in 4th grade to see them and I certainly wouldn't pay my own money to see them now. I am pretty sure I was the only 4th grader in my school district who said, these guys suck and they aren't going to last.

Nathan Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 07:30 PM EST

Talk about an ill-advised reunion, these guys couldn't sing when they were young, imagine how it'll sound now. They don't even have their looks to fall back on anymore. This will be so very terrible.

NKOTB Lover Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 07:22 PM EST

I'm am so excited, if the rumor turns out to be true. When I first heard the news I went to Google and You Tube to watch all the old videos and hear the songs once again. Oh the memories it brought back! I would be there in a heartbeat!

Erica P Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 07:15 PM EST

I was so excited when I heard there may be an NKOTB reunion. I saw them 3 times when I was younger and would totally go see them now even though I'm almost 30. Although it may be difficult to find anyone that would actually go with me now. I still heart Jordan...even though he was on the Surreal Life!

Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 07:09 PM EST

I saw them when I was ten years old and now seventeen years later I cannot wait and will do whatever it takes to see them again!

lawyergirl77 Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 06:55 PM EST

As embarassing as this admission is going to be...

... I would be willing to make the 8 hour trip to Boston to see them perform again. I squealed like the 12-year-old girl I was when I heard this rumour earlier this week. And I clicked like a madwoman when I heard that there was a snippet of a new song on the official website.

I'd be tempted to ask people to send help, but the interventions didn't work in high school (no matter how hard I tried to be cool and deny how much I wanted to be Mrs. Jordan Knight) and they won't work now.

Bottom line: SQUEEEEE! Count me in!!

Snarf Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 06:54 PM EST

I didn't "get" them the first time round..I certainly wouldn't pay anything to expose myself for V2.0. Although I can picture them performing at Casino Rama somehow......

T-Rex Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 06:26 PM EST

I detest everything new kids. My all-time favorite Mad Magazine was the one in which Mad trashed the new kids. That said, I would buy my wife tickets to this show in a heartbeat. Then I would bask in the warm glow of a job well done.

Heather Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 06:12 PM EST

I remember a group of girls in high school went to their concert and rented a room at the hotel next to the arena so they could spend the whole night trying to find them. If those girls are going I think I'll pass.

QueenC Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 06:01 PM EST

I picture a scene similar to the ones in "Music and Lyrics," in which Hugh Grant nearly breaks his hip performing for swooning soccer moms.
I'm totally there.
