John C. Reilly as Dr. Steve 'For Your Health' Brule

Brulesrules_l You don’t have to be a faithful follower of Adult Swim's whacked-out comedy series Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! to appreciate the exquisite incompetence of Dr. Steve Brule — played to loose, loopy perfection by John C. Reilly, and not to be confused with ex-NHL forward Steve Brule. For the uninitiated, here  is a "best of" site where you can learn many of Brule's Rules (my favorite, "Living on your lonesome," offers tips that make it "a little less AWFUL"). While you'll surely spot Reilly-as-Brule on the season 1 DVD of Tim and Eric, due in April, I was geeked to see him pop up on the show's Jan. 27 second-season finale where, as seen about three to four minutes into this clip, he reviews (and wears) wine.

Having spent way too much time watching and re-watching Dr. Steve Brule, I'm starting to want some backstory: Is Brule a psychologist? A guidance counselor? A misguided podiatrist with dreams of TV stardom? It wouldn't be a stretch to speculate that he idolizes Dr. Phil because, like Doc McGraw himself, he seems to marvel at his own brilliant insights. But while I'm laughing, I'm also trying to decide — help me out, PopWatchers — whether Dr. Steve Brule is a character who could carry his own movie, or whether this doofy humor is best prescribed in small doses. While you try to decide, check out Dr. Steve Brule's local news segment about fresh produce (after the jump). For your health.

Ya Turkey! Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 08:21 PM EST

Orgies are not very much fun if no one wants to do it with you. LOL!

Glad to see Dr. Steve Brule and Tim and Eric are getting some more love. First the Must List (my persistence paid off!), now the Popwatch Blog. They're comin' to getcha, America. For your health!

The Tim and Eric show is one of the few shows on television right now that I obsessively watch. All of my roommates, our friends, random strangers will instantly drop what we are doing and gather around the TV if it comes on. So all of you haters, just remember, "Get your poke on!"

Tim & Eric is definitely a 'love it or hate it'-type of show, but thankfully I'm a part of the 'love it' crowd, despite how mentally ill some people perceive me to be b/c of my enjoyment of the show. I'm just surprised popwatch did something on it. Remember: "Didya ever spill paint in yer driveway? Just hose it off, dummy!"

For your health.

I think small doses. We don't know who he is, where he came from, what mental illness he has and that's what makes it awesome. For your health, you turkey!

I'm kind of addicted to Dr. Steve Brule now. It's all about the delivery.

that was about the video from the link. the john c reilly clip here wasn't anything special either though. maybe slightly better.

yikes Wed, Jan 30, 2008 at 04:31 PM EST

eek. that was not funny. john c reilly's bit was the best one, but it wasn't very good. but then he came back and the vomiting thing just made it stupid (and not stupid funny) -he almost saved it after that, but nope.
and the whole fighting sketch/funeral bit was horrendous.
tumblers were better than pumpers, but not by much.
