PopWatch Duel: Geoff Stults vs. Rebecca Field

Jan 14, 2008, 06:00 AM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: An EW Exclusive!, PopWatch Duel, Television, Water cooler

Or_l It's Round No. 2 of PopWatch Duel — and this time, we might break a sweat. In case you missed our inaugural bout (in which Psych's James Roday defeated his costar Dulé Hill on the subject of great pop-culture mysteries that need to be solved), here's how this works. We ask two celebs for their lists on a certain topic. You decide whose list is better by casting a vote in the comments section. (They try to tell themselves that they don't care who wins.)

This week, October Road's Geoff Stults and Rebecca Field step into the ring. Since their characters, Eddie and Janet, are finally feelin' frisky on tonight's episode (ABC, 10 p.m.), we had them name the five best movie love scenes.

Their picks...

Geoff Stults:

1. Top Gun: The love scene between Maverick and his instructor... I was 10 when I saw this scene... You could kinda see her boob... Again, I was 10.
2. Wild Things: The lovely scene between Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, and Denise Richards... Enough said.
3. The Notebook: The scene where they make love in the old house... Kind of goes without saying. Her overall cuteness and his blue-collar manly beard are the perfect combination.
4. Talladega Nights: The kissing scene at the end with Will and Sacha... What's more romantic than two dudes kissing in front of 250,000 NASCAR fans?
5. Team America: The only love scene in the film. You know it if you saw it...
Honorable mention: Brad Pitt and Julia Ormond in Legends of the Fall. One of the sexiest of all-time in my opinion.

Rebecca Field:

1. Dirty Dancing: When they are in Patrick Swayze's room and dance and then "get it on"... So romantic and sweet, and a little cheesy, but who doesn't love a little cheese when it involves romance?
2. Pretty Woman: When Julia Roberts wakes up Richard Gere by kissing him, which she has never done before, and then they are intimate. Just love that!
3. Titanic: When Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio run away from the party and end up steaming up the windows in the car — amazing.
4. Bruce Almighty: When Jim Carrey is God and comes home to Jennifer Aniston and brings the moon closer and then she runs to the bathroom... hee hee... Pretty fantastic.
5. Moonstruck: When they are in the kitchen talking, and then Nicolas Cage tosses Cher on the table and grabs her, kisses her, and brings her to the bedroom.

Okay, who wins the duel? Geoff Stults or Rebecca Field? Vote now!

Rebecca

Amy Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 03:39 PM EST

Rebecca wins, but I wouldn't have minded taking her place in the scene with Geoff!

CindyS Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

I think Geoff and Rebecca both win...what a scene with the two of them the other night. Bay city Rollers...only a guy could turn Saturday night into a love scene session. He has such cute dimples on his lower back...they make a great couple. It's about time they got it on.

Geoff Wins Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 05:20 PM EST

Because he included straight, gay, threesome, and puppet scenes. We know he's sexy, now we know he's funny and open-minded too. How open-minded, I would not mind testing....... ;)

Melissa A Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 10:48 AM EST

Rebecca gets my vote ... Pretty Woman and Titanic did it for me....the hand on the window in the car and Leo ... =)

Becca Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 08:11 AM EST

im gonna have to go w/ Rebecca.

Olivia Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 12:18 AM EST

Rebecca wins! Those Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman scenes are classic! (tho Geoff is right about the Top Gun scene too...)

Susi Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 10:09 PM EST

Geoff wins hands down for Team America!! And the boob comment. Made me laugh out loud. Rebecca's picks were so pedestrian.

dawn Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 08:05 PM EST

Rebecca (Becky) to me is the clear winner. She's right on with Dirty Dancing and Bruce Almighty. Keep it up Becky we are all behind you.

margie Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 07:25 PM EST

Rebecca wins because of Moonstruck ... I want to go watch that movie again now.

Fatima Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 04:34 PM EST

No really, the fact that they like such middle to low brow movies (save Moonstruck) explains why they probably don't mind being on a show like October Road.

Miriam Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 03:38 PM EST

Geoff.
Rebecca automatically lost me when she mentioned Titanic.

Dan L. Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 02:29 PM EST

Geoff

Emily Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST

I'm going to go with Rebecca. but, great input by both... Why didn't anyone mention "Shakespeare in Love" when they finally give in to one another and he unwraps her? AWESOME.

Gina Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 11:12 AM EST

I hate to say it, because I love you both, but Top Gun and the Notebook really did it for me!

Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 08:32 AM EST

Geoff

Fatima Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 01:51 AM EST

Top Gun and Dirty Dancing? Are we naming my least favorite movies or something? Advantage: Neither.

Timmy & Denise Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 01:18 AM EST

Whatever Rebecca & Jeff Say!
We love Janet & Eddie and can't wait for the wedding!

Adrianne Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 11:43 PM EST

Both - Geoff for The Notebook, Top Gun, and Legends of the Fall and rebecca for Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, and Moonstruck.

other than that I would have made a better list. =)

I October Road.

&

Janet & Eddie!

- Adri.

Anonymous Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 11:12 PM EST

I say a tie. What would've been better was if you had them pick the top 5 songs to get frisky to like in tonight's episode. "Saturday Night" is now on my playlist on iTunes.

Kelly Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 10:54 PM EST

REBECCA WINS - Because of
Pretty Woman and Titanic

Christine Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:45 PM EST

Rebecca wins... You can't deny Swayze's hips.

Jaime Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:32 PM EST

Geoff wins, with the honorable mention of Legends of the Fall. Brad Pitt was unbelievably fine in that movie.

Lyn Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 08:45 PM EST

I have to go with Geoff. Funny, romantic, dirty love scenes. Just like real life. (Or I hope)

Tiffany Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 08:31 PM EST

Tough choice..both had good ones but going to go with Rebecca

Rebekah Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 08:19 PM EST

It's close, but I gotta go with Geoff. The Notebook put him over.

Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 08:17 PM EST

Gotta go with Geoff. His honorable mention won me over!

Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 07:59 PM EST

Geoff wins! Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing, and Titanic are too obvious.

Michelle Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 07:51 PM EST

Geoff....agree with 3 of his choices plus the Legends reference.

Meg Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 07:13 PM EST

Love them both but gotta go with Rebecca.

Hank Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 06:30 PM EST

Gotta go with Rebecca.

Hank Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 06:27 PM EST

Gotta go with Rebecca. Stults has some hot picks, but Fields wins for romance.

meredith Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 06:07 PM EST

Rebecca wins for picking Moonstruck!!

DanOregon Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 06:07 PM EST

Stults would have won with Talladega Nights and Team America, but admitting he saw The Notebook (thereby forfeiting his ManCard) he defaults to Rebecca.

BTW- I know October Road gets some grief but its a notch above the "four chicks dishing" shows that populate the ABC lineup.

Josephine Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

Rebecca, 3 to 2, even though Geoff almost had it with the mention of Legends of the Fall, that was the best ever!!!

monica Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 05:37 PM EST

i have to go with Rebecca on this one, even though Notebook is a pretty damn good scene.

Strepsi Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 05:01 PM EST

Hey, my post was moderated to remove the prize I offered to Mr. Stults. What if he reads this? He'll never know the prize he could have claimed. But really EW, I think with the language we see on the net, even on early night TV (you ever SEEN 2 1/2 men? The language!), my euphemism was certainly tame, I mean "sit" and "face" are NOT dirty words... ;)

jen Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 04:32 PM EST

so, before i even clicked to the jump, i said to myself "$20 says geoff says top gun" and then it was his #1. if only i really could pay myself. geoff wins...though neither brought the funny like the psych boys last time.

DG Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 04:16 PM EST

Rebebba Wins!!

Mooonstruck is one of my favorite movies - a la familia - CIAO!

Robin Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

Rebecca (hands down)

Strepsi Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 03:41 PM EST

Stults FTW -- he mixed romantic, funny, and hot-if-you're-10-years-old scenes. Excellent.

Kate Naylor Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

Becky, of course, because she's my cousin!

Nathaniel Baltimore Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

Geoff - hands down.

Amanda Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 02:46 PM EST

Geoff because I'm not a fan of Dirty Dancing.

Meghan Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 02:44 PM EST

Geoff - most def for the Notebook, and also for Tog Gun. I was also pretty young when I first saw it, and thought it was just the hottest thing scene ever, when Tom Cruise is kissing Kelly McGillis's neck...drool!But really I'll agree with whatever he says any day of the week.

Tammy Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 02:28 PM EST

Rebecca

Lindsay Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 02:27 PM EST

Geoff, for thinking outside the box...plus, I really don't like Pretty Woman, so that ruined her list for me.

Martha Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 02:22 PM EST

I'm with Laurie...Rebecca gets points for "Moonstruck" but Geoff gets points for going with the not-so-obvious. And where's the "Out of Sight" shout-out here? Incredible love scene...I still get goosebumps 10 years later.

Sam Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

Rebecca. Titanic's Kate Winslet still rocks my socks off

Susan Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 01:14 PM EST

Boredom has me thinking of my picks:
- To Have and Have Not: Every scene with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Especially when we find out that she didn't get on the plane.
- An Affair to Remember: When Cary Grant comes to Deborah Kerr's apartment at the end.
- Say Anything: The plane scene at the end.
- Legends of the Fall: Brad Pitt and Julia Ormond.....
- Roman Holiday: Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn are adorably romantic.
- Honorable mention to Clive Owen and Monica Bellucci in Shoot 'em up.

Andie Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 01:14 PM EST

I pick Rebecca for the Moonstruck pick.

Katy Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:53 PM EST

have either of them seen a movie made before 1985?? Or does "all time" mean "your lifetime."

Anna Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:53 PM EST

I'm going to go with Rebecca partly because of the Dirty Dancing reference and partly because Geoff looks like Ryan Seacrest's twin brother in that photo.

Leo Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:51 PM EST

Ummm, neither? Guy goes obligatory Wild Things threesome and girl goes Titanic? Can we get more cliche? Wait, they are on October Road.

Jeff Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:30 PM EST

Geoff wins

Susan Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:28 PM EST

Geoff wins for the Legends of the Fall reference.

Both lists are pretty lame, though.

Kel Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:27 PM EST

Geoff wins for having Team America and Talladega Nights in his answer.

Ceballos Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:20 PM EST

See now THIS is a duel with a clear (and fun) topic that people can get behind and debate.

I vote for Geoff...for being a lot more imaginative with his picks. Also, for the sentence "you could kinda see her boob"...who amongst us guys hasn't been there when watching a love scene?

Catherine Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:17 PM EST

Rebecca's list is better, hands down. Geoff's entire *list* reads like that of a 10-year-old boy.

idigress Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:15 PM EST

Rebecca wins! She chose the perfect "Pretty Woman" scene!

Devin Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:13 PM EST

Geoff; "Team America" had a funnier love scene than "Bruce Almighty."

Laurie Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 11:57 AM EST

Mnnn, Moonstruck best one on the list, but overall a hard choice. Geoff for not being boring.

Kirsten Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 11:46 AM EST

Geoff wins, mostly due to Top Gun and The Notebook. Rebecca loses points for the inclusion of three obvious choices.

Christa Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 11:09 AM EST

Geoff...He wins at everything.

I pick... Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 11:03 AM EST

Geoff...for the Legends of the Fall reference alone...although it was only honorable mention.

Sandra Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 10:50 AM EST

Well Hmm I vote for Geoff, Top Gun and the Notebook YEAH! although Rebecca brought up spme pretty good ones as well

RobC Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 10:48 AM EST

Tough call.... Geoff did well by including "Top Gun" and "The Notebook," but he loses massive points for "Team America."

Winner: Rebecca for "Titanic," "Moonstruck," and "Pretty Woman."

Ryan Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 10:35 AM EST

Wow, those are some bad choices. Nothing grabbed me until Moonstruck, so she gets my vote.

Dan McCormack Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 10:33 AM EST

Rebecca wins all day long

Angie Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 10:27 AM EST

Geoff, just for the whole Notebook comment

Serena Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 10:26 AM EST

Rebecca wins hands down. She went with romantic classics. I remember watching Dirty Dancing in the 80's and being in awe.

Anna Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:58 AM EST

Geoff loses points for being too much of a boy with it. But Rebecca loses points for being so predictable...I'm torn. I think I have to give it to Rebecca.

Kelli Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:49 AM EST

A man who includes the Notebook in his list...well that totally makes me forget Team America and Talladega Nights. But...still, Rebecca wins it for the list as a whole.

Justin Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:45 AM EST

Geoff, solely for bringing up Team America.

Justin Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:45 AM EST

Geoff, solely for bring up Team America.

Jusa Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:44 AM EST

Gotta be Rebecca here. Wild Things, Geoff? Really? You hurt me so bad.

Parise Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:42 AM EST

Rebecca's list brings the romance, but I got to go with George. That scene in Team America...priceless.

StilettoSecrets Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:42 AM EST

gotta go with Rebecca, though neither list really does it for me

Parise Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:42 AM EST

Rebecca's list brings the romance, but I got to go with George. That scene in Team America...priceless.

Leslie Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:42 AM EST

Rebecca

carmen Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:34 AM EST

Rebecca hands down! Geoff, I assume you were goofing around or, just being a guy.. though I'm with you on Top Gun except for the boob part.

Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:24 AM EST

They both lose...sorry.

Elizabeth Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:19 AM EST

Sorry Geoff, you're hot and all, but Rebecca wins this one. (Now, if you took off your shirt, I may reconsider)

Megan Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 09:16 AM EST
