Trailer Blazer: 'Doomsday'

Just went and saw a preview of this movie last night. While uber fanboys may love it, I'm an uber fanboy and thought it was just okay.

The movie is basically "Escape From New York" set in Scotland, with elements of "The Warriors", "Aliens", and the gruesomeness of "Robocop".

Those elements of this movie worked really well. However, there was also this oddball influence from "The Road Warrior" near the end that went a bit past homage and into parody.

The film also suffers from some serious plotholes. We are led to believe the survivors of the plague (the ones locked into Scotland) have no food and must thus eat people. Yet early in the film the English encounter an entire field full of cows. Why wouldn't the savages have eaten the cows before they went to eating people?

The secret ending had no real surprises. The film starts out great but really peters out by the end. C+

Looked like a rip-off to the next sequel to 28 Days Later at first, but it looks cool nonetheless

if Neil Marshall can do anything- its taking a bunch of well-known subgenre's and mix it together to make a well made movie as he did with dog soliders and the descent. im there!

I'm with the rest of the posters. Even if the trailer was bad, I would've checked it out because I loved "The Descent". Fortunately, the trailer kicks butt.

I loved both the Descent (anybody catch that quick glance of MyAnna Buring--Sam from the Descent?) and Dog Soldiers so I hope this is good. This looks rather more big budget blow-stuff up and less story-driven than those two were.

The Descent was absolutely terrifying and brilliant. I have faith that this movie, in Marshall's hands, will be a helluva ride. Can't wait to see it.
