Coachella goes 'Dark'

Rogerwaters_l Sorry, Coachella festivalgoers: this April's edition of the big blowout indie music fest will not feature the rumored Radiohead set or My Bloody Valentine reunion. But hey, it will feature a closing night performance by Pink Floyd curmudgeon Roger Waters (pictured); guess this is proof that if you stick around long enough, you become so outré that you're hip again. Apparently, he'll be performing in its entirety Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. (Now celebrating its 35th year on the charts! Well, maybe not.) No word on whether they'll screen The Wizard of Oz behind him during the performance.

This year's lineup, announced yesterday, certainly does look as diverse as ever.(Headliners include Jack Johnson, the Verve, the Raconteurs, Portishead, Kraftwerk, Death Cab for Cutie, Love and Rockets, and My Morning Jacket. Then there's the Breeders, Fatboy Slim, Tegan and Sara, Madness, the National, Cafe Tacuba, Rilo Kiley, Dwight Yoakam, Spiritualized, Justice, and dozens of others.) Tickets go on sale Friday.

Show of hands: Who's going? Who are you most looking forward to seeing?

Definately going, but the "Headliners" are a little weak. Where's this years Rage? Or Pixies? Or Madonna? Roger Waters is cool, But I would rather see a reunited Pink Floyd. Here's hoping they still might have a couple tricks up their sleeve and they add a couple more big names, mostly so I can have the smaller stages to myself.

I have gone to three years of Coachella. I feel this line-up is SUPER weak, especially the headliners. Many of the bands I would want to see I have already seen play at Coachella and then the other bands who are first timers there I have seen this past year in philly. I feel that part of the reason Coachella is so amazing an experience is you get to have once in a lifetime show experiences and this year doesnt really offer that. Jack Johnson? I mean how is he possibly at the same level as past year show headliners as The Cure, Tool, Bjork, Black Star, Radiohead, a reunited Pixes, etc...

I wasn't even considering going until Portishead came along. They don't come out of hiding often, and are one of my favs.

I would love to go but it isn't in the cards for me to ditch the fam and the job for 3 days for a music festival on the other side of the country. *Sigh*
If I were going, though, I'd be most pumped about Death Cab, My Morning Jacket, Rilo and Spiritualized.
