Mr. Blackwell's suspiciously selective sartorial scorn

Alison_arngrim_l Not that I really care who made Mr. Blackwell's annual Ten Worst Dressed list (Posh was tops? Okay, whatever), but two things struck me about the 48th (!) annual edition, announced yesterday.

First, how hard up do you have to be for fashion victims in order to dig deep into the where-are-they-now files and unearth Alison Arngrim (pictured), who's been pretty much off the pop culture radar ever since Little House on the Prairie went off the air 26 years ago? There wasn't anyone more in the public eye who was a public eyesore? Never thought I'd feel sorry for Nellie Oleson, but dang, Mr. B, what did she ever do to you?

Second, I see he decided not to list Britney Spears this year because he "felt that it was inappropriate at this time to make comment when her personal life is in such upheaval." That's big of you, Mr. B, but that didn't stop you from cackling at Amy Winehouse or Lindsay Lohan this year, did it?

What do you think of Mr. Blackwell's list, PopWatchers? Are you bothered by his arbitrary standards of who is and isn't fair game? Or should we just get back to talking about important stuff like strike beards and the Cloverfield monster now?

Whoa! Who beat Nelly with the ugly stick? She used to be so cute. Looking at her now I would say that fashion was the least of her worries...

LibraryChick Thu, Jan 10, 2008 at 10:44 AM EST

I think "mean old Buddy Hinton" was number 11 on the list.

Chris Welles Thu, Jan 10, 2008 at 07:40 AM EST

I admit that I find Mr. Blackwell`s list a minor guilty pleasure but there`s something so mean-spirited about him including Alison Arngrim in his worst dressed list and I guess Amy Winehouse`s fashion sense is a bigger concern than her suicidal tendencies.

Tim Thu, Jan 10, 2008 at 07:15 AM EST

I think Mr. Blackwell is disgusting. Once a year he climbs out of his whole to knock people down for how they look. He thinks he's relevant. He thinks he's clever. He thinks he's stylish. He's tired.

Deborah Thu, Jan 10, 2008 at 04:09 AM EST

Blackwell's list used to be funny, now he's just too in love with his own wit to notice that no one is laughing. Dahlia has it right, the Fug Girls should take over.

Miss Dahlia Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 07:13 PM EST

Forget Blackwell -- Let the Fug Girls (www.gofugyourself.com) take his place instead!

Raven_Moon Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 06:08 PM EST

And his opinion matters why?

DanOregon Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 05:27 PM EST

When you see a C or D list celeb in an awful outfit in a magazine, they know what they're doing. Chances are if you've got a hot pic of Jessica Alba looking fantastic and pic of someone like Nellie Olson looking even better, they'll still go with the Alba pic.
I imagine a few publicists will be getting a bonus. Expect to see "Nellie" get a makeover from ET or EXtra or one of those crappy shows.

Ally Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 05:02 PM EST

I agree with Posh at number one because the way she dressed her underweight bony self and holds herself posture and face-wise is just plain weird.
I am sure Britney was on the list till the recent hospitalization and then Blackwell had to fill in a quickie replacement, thus the Allison person no one knows...

Snarf Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 04:54 PM EST

I'm more concerned about his apparently sudden need to diss in Suess-ism. And if Amy Winehouse can make the list - so should Spears

No Nellie Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 02:40 PM EST

Allison Arngrim comes off as the most obnoxious person alive. I'm sure she's LOVING being on this list. It's just more publicity which she can use to shoot off her crooked mouth. UGH! And the rest are no brainers. I just wish they'd show more pictures of these disasters in their outfits. It makes me giggle.

Elizabeth Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 02:26 PM EST

It's never seemed relevant, and in this day and age of 'entertainment news', I can't understand why news organizations still pick this story up every year? I mean, didn't Britney Spears blow her nose today? That's more newsworthy...

GeeMoney Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 01:44 PM EST

I actually look forward to his lists, because they're usually right on. I disagreed with Post Spice being number 1, until I saw her in that neon strapless dress she wore the other day. Yikes!
As for Alison An-whatever..... yeah, he was scraping the bottom of the barrel there. Who the hell is she anyway?!?!?!?!

Nose Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 01:42 PM EST

Britney should have been on the list, and should have been ripped to shreds. It's the only way she'll learn, people!

Nancy Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 01:00 PM EST

I think his list is irrelevant. Who cares what this guy thinks? Not moi.

Allison Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 12:59 PM EST

Here's the thing about Blackwell leaving out Brit and keeping Lohan and Winehouse. Clearly all 3 are disasterous. But Lohan are Winehouse at least arent shaving their heads and beating up paparizzi with umbrellas. Brit very clearly has mental issues. Lohan and Winehouse have drug problems which they don't seem to want to help.

The Allison addition made me smile...she was seen in public like, what, once this year? Aren't there plenty of other badly-dressed folks who coulda made the list? Carrie Bradshaw's wedding dress in the SATC trailer comes to mind...
regardless, he gives a pass to Unfitney but keeps Lohand and Wino on the list? That seems preferrential to me...why doesn't he and his list just GO AWAY..no one cares anymore about what he has to say...celebs have been dressing badly for years, its not news anymore...

Kathleen Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 12:24 PM EST

I bet Nellie totally paid him to put her on the list. Any publicity is good publicity, no?

Martha Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 12:11 PM EST

Agreed, Gary - Mr. Blackwell's picks (and omissions) seem awfully random. Especially when there was more than enough to pick from among the more visible Hollywood folks this year. He should've consulted the Fug Girls first.

Emily Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 11:58 AM EST

Alison Arngrim??!? There has to be some bad blood between Nellie and Mr. Blackwell - that one came from left field. Especially considering there's a huge gap on her resume since the early '80s and a few years ago. A little suspicious buddy...

Sarah Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 11:49 AM EST

Too bad many of the people on this worst dressed list are fashion icons, especially Mary Kate. Even Karl Lagerfeld said he used Wino as inspiration for his latest show. The people on Mr. Black's Best Dressed are really the worst because they are SO Boring. I mean Anjelina wears the same black stuff everyday and Katie Holmes looks about 45.

Stephanie T. Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 11:21 AM EST

Woah, Nellie! I see why he would go there. I think that a Spanx bra would do her justice, but out of all the possible actors and actresses? When was the last time she was ever on television?

jacinta Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 11:19 AM EST

I think Blackwells just jealous that he's not Posh and that he's not married to David Beckham.

Broadway Baby Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 11:18 AM EST

That is more than arbitrary. Next year I'm sending him some pictures of my veterinarian because if Nellie can make the list with no mention of her anywhere last year, then my dog's doctor should certainly be there. Really - you should see her - I'm just saying.

Sally in Chicago Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 11:15 AM EST

Are you sure Mr. Black is still alive?

jcarla Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 11:15 AM EST

Cloverfield now! I never understood the appeal the the Blackwell guy. I mean, what does he do the rest of the year to make him judge of other people. And his comments usually had snark on the person than the clothes.
