Trailer Blazer: 'Baby Mama'

There's one moment in this trailer that got me laughing so hard at my desk that people actually poked their heads in to make sure I hadn't snapped and was about to go on a crazed stapler rampage. I think you'll know it when you see it.

That look on Amy Poehler's face, just sitting there... man-oh-Manischewitz. Judging by this trailer, Baby Mama looks like a brave new frontier for chick flicks. It's not a romantic comedy. It's not a "three girls get together and bond over shared bad experiences with dudes" movie. It's not defined by the female reaction to the male presence, or lack of presence. Which is so friggin' refreshing I can't tell you.

Not that I thought the whole trailer was a slam dunk — at this point, there's no such thing as an au courant DMX joke — but it's promising. And it's Tina Fey, who's totally gonna come live with me if my wife and Tina's husband say it's cool.

If you do a little Evel Kneivel over the jump (get it?), there's some more Fey-related baby shenanigans for you.

As promised:

Chocolate or poop: every Mom has been there.

Dee Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 08:15 PM EST

Wow, this movie looks terrible.

Emily Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 03:58 PM EST

one word: AWESOME. I can't wait for this one!

Martha Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 03:42 PM EST

This looks awesome. I'm psyched to see it. While Amy's face while in the sink was priceless, I laughed out loud at the "chocolate or poop" moment. Because really moms, who hasn't done something disgustingly similar? The Pam comment in the birthing class was also quite amusing.

Leslie Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 03:09 PM EST

In a related thought, what is it with all the pregnancy themes all of a sudden? Knocked Up, Waitress, Juno, Wilhemina of Ugly Betty, Sun/Kate/Claire on Lost, the recently blogged about Knocked Up meets Sicko movie. What's the deal?

Leslie Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 03:03 PM EST

I think it looks hilarious too. I loved the poop/chocolate bit, and LOL-ed with the end bit - "shouldn't we clean that up?" Looks hilarious. And I agree with poster below; Mean Girls was cute but more Tina Fey would've made it better.

Lauren Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 02:37 PM EST

When I first saw the trailer I was laughing so hard that I was crying! I can't wait to go see this. Amy Poehler is one of the funniest people

Kathleen Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 01:59 PM EST

Yaaay Maura Tierney! Love her. I usually wait for second run theaters for movies that aren't FX-centric, 'cause I'm poor, but I'll gladly pay ten bucks to see this.

Frances Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 01:35 PM EST

I am so glad I'm not alone in laughing out loud at the DMX joke! I think Romany Malco (Jay from 40 Year Old Virgin)is hysterical. The fact that Tina Fay and Amy Poehler are in the movie might motivate me to go see this. It looks pretty funny.

Anjeliki Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 12:35 PM EST

I also LOL at the Maura Tierney "chocolate or poop" part. I thought the toilet/sink bit was funny, but predictable. Nonetheless, I'll be dragging the husband to see this movie.

IndianaJenn Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 11:48 AM EST

I actually laughed out loud at the poop or chocolate part. Love Maura Tierney, Tina & Amy!!!

KingLouieXVII Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 10:36 AM EST

I love me some Tina Fey! She's so sexy. It's those glasses! Can't wait to see her on the big screen again. MEAN GIRLS was pretty funny, and this should be even better. More Tina and less Lindsay Lohan.

Christa Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 10:07 AM EST

Okay, I totally laughed at the DMX line because when I was pregnant with my son (7 years ago) I listened to DMX all of the time and it totally looks like my child is "raising the roof" in his ultrasound photo. Sad, but true.

furry_tom Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 09:56 AM EST

Looks awesome. And I'll bet you that DMX joke is 50 times funnier than anything you'll hear in 27 Dresses.

Heather Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 09:40 AM EST

Okay, so maybe I'm weird, but I laughed like crazy at the DMX joke and found the sink thing gross. *g* Overall it looked really cute.

Sara Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 09:22 AM EST

I'm with you Marc - I'm so thrilled at the prospect of a female-centered comedy that's about, well, women and the things they go through. Also...Amy and Tina are frigging brilliant.

Elizabeth Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 07:39 AM EST

Yeah! Can't wait.

Lesley Fri, Jan 18, 2008 at 04:03 AM EST

The entire time I'm thinking: what if I don't see it? has it already passed? which one is it? And then I saw it. Everyone was asleep in my house and I actually laughed so hard I thought they were all going to wake up. God, I love, love, love Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Alan Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 10:42 PM EST

Tina Fey is a God. Period. She is brilliant!!

dala Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 10:01 PM EST
