You Say You Want a (TV) Resurrection?

Dec 11, 2007, 12:05 PM | by Marc Bernardin

Categories: 'Heroes', Comic Books, I'm Just a Geek, PopWatch Petition, Sci-Fi, Television

I need a castle, preferably someplace in Eastern Europe. Nice living quarters, natch. Central air is a must. But it absolutely needs a spiffy Frankensteinian electric rig in the attic — because I want to bring stuff back to life. (And I'd love it if said castle were in black and white. I'm a purist, what can I say?)

Specifically, I want to bring some long-dead TV shows back from the dead. But the electric mojo will only work on programs that were taken before their time, snuffed just as they were revealing their true potential. In a world where there's no TCA press tour because there aren't really gonna be any new shows, reaching into the abyss and yanking back some gems is a perfectly valid dream.

And, since it's my dream, here are the shows I want back:

Firefly_lFirefly (pictured)  Easy call, I know. And given the fan machine behind Joss Whedon's sci-fi Western, this one has had more life than most dead shows: a feature film, multiple comic series, essay collections, etc. But, still. To see where Capt. Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion, who I've got a wee bit of a man-crush on) and his motley crew would've gone...ah, that's the stuff that geek dreams are made of.

Profit  A blue-black satire of corporate greed starring Adrian Pasdar (Heroes) as a sociopath raised—literally—by television who kills his way up the corporate ladder? Thank you, sir, may I have another? No? Bastards.

Nowhere Man  The criminally underused Bruce Greenwood (who was never better than as JFK in Thirteen Days) plays a photojournalist who snapped a war-zone picture that sends his life into a downward spiral into identity erasure. Like The Fugitive, it was about an innocent man — or so we're led to believe — on the run, trying to get his life back. Would've loved to have seen where he ran to.

What about you? Which late, lamented TV shows would you want back from beyond?

michelucky Mon, Jul 7, 2008 at 09:22 PM EST

please sir, may i have more firefly?

Darrick Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 01:32 AM EST

Firefly!!!! oh and More Firefly!!!!

And Serenity 2 also...

ValerieH Sat, Mar 29, 2008 at 05:52 PM EST

Joan of Arcadia
Homicide: Life on the Streets
Firefly

Representing the best of writing, humor and plotlines...so of course they could not last.

trynovar Tue, Mar 25, 2008 at 11:03 PM EST

Firefly
Farscape
Wolf Lake - anyone remember this one? It had some of the best acting and had an outstanding set of plotlines. It was killed just as it was getting good. It had a horrible time slot and seemed to get bumped every other week for some "special" or another. Like Firefly, this one was killed before folks had a chance to find out about it.

Chet LaPrice Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 11:40 AM EST

What is interesting is the trend towards the early cancellation of shows that seem to be very popular to the so-called "Generation X-ers" (of which I am one). Shows like Firefly, SportsNight, The Tick, Jericho, The Lone Gunmen, My So-Called Life, Arrested Development, and Freaks and Geeks all fit that particular genre. Possibly network TV never really fully learned how to market to our particular age group. Their loss, as we have the income to buy the things that TV likes to get advertisers for. Anybody remember Probe, on ABC during the late 80's? Very similar to Fox's X-Files which came later.

Mike in Moncton Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

Re-do Man From Atlantis. Get Ron Moore from BSG to work on it.

jadzia dax Wed, Feb 13, 2008 at 12:43 AM EST

oh, I forgot Martial Law with Sammo Hung. Big martial arts fan)love Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and Yuen Baio(watch Dragon's Forever: great movie). On another note Homicide - Life on the street was well written and well performed. Also, a blast from the past - the time travels with the guy from Grease 2. I forget the name of the show.

jadzia dax Wed, Feb 13, 2008 at 12:31 AM EST

First of all Huge Buffy and Charmed fan, but they had a good run. Angel and Quantum Leap just for closure!! ST - DS9 could have been on several more seasons even though I missed Jadzia terribly. That 80's Show, Birds of Prey, Studio 60, Tru Calling, Dark Angel, The Kindred, Boomtown(great show!!)Tales of the Golden Monkey(big crush on Stephen Collins),News Radio, 3rd Watch(best ending ever; great closure),West Wing(4 more years), old MTV when it played videos. I think there should be a flashback channel that would play old videos(I want my MTV). The funniest show so far Whose Line Is It Anyway? - can't get enough!! John Doe and Nowhere Man

Ginger Metcalf Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 03:46 PM EST

I miss "thirtysomething"...why is it not on DVD? Now that I am "thirtysomething" myself, I really miss Ken Olin.
Also:
--Homefront [I know Kyle Chandler is doing well on FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS; Ken Jenkins is doing well on SCRUBS; and Tammy Lauren is doing well on Y&R but I really really miss HOMEFRONT. And I rue the day that it was cancelled for that godawful JAG...which had been cancelled by NBC and picked up by CBSnoozefest..]
And I'll give a shout out to THE GUARDIAN, my sister's favorite late great primetime show.

mdm Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 01:23 PM EST

NBC-Those shows died out in the 70's and 80's for a reason!

LennyP Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 08:59 PM EST

Recent shows that realistically could still be revived and should be:
Veronica Mars
Night Stalker
Invasion

Older shows that are less likely to have a realistic chance at returning, but that deserve to
Twin Peaks
EZ Streets
Pasadena
Profit
Once and Again

queen of disrepair Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 08:20 PM EST

My kids would be thrilled if Surface would come back - they loved that show!
I loved Roswell, Sports Night and I'd love for someone to try and give the Mel Brooks/Buck Henry Robin Hood spoof "When Things Were Rotten" another shot. Can NBC Overnight with another Lloyd Dobbinesque and Linda Ellerbee program be attempted again? Oh and Get A Life with Chris Elliot should be on the air.

Chris Johnston Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 07:12 PM EST

I would've loved to see these brought back within 3 years of their original cancellation, and only with their original casts...

Alien Nation*
Brimstone
C16
Cupid
Dark Skies
Earth 2
EZ Streets
Farscape
Firefly
GvsE
Harsh Realm
High Incident
Mann & Machine
Max Headroom
Midnight Caller
Profit
Space: Above and Beyond
Spy Game
The State
Stingray (Nick Mancuso)
Strange Luck
Threshold
Vengeance Unlimited

*The follow-up movies set the standard for how such things need to be done!

Michael Satran Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 05:55 PM EST

Veronica Mars:

This really was the best TV show I've seen in quite a while. It's hard to do noir right, and it's harder to do it and get any sort of fanbase at all. The urban landscape of Neptune (The real main character) really made this show sizzle, and I loved all of the dirty little stories that made the town what it was.

Can it be saved? We sure hope so!

erin Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 05:44 PM EST

Definitely Firefly
Tru Calling
Arrested Development
Sports Night
My So Called Life.

MP Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 05:38 PM EST

Studio 60 on the sunset strip
Popular
Animaniacs
Freakazoid

I'm loving "the big bang theory" lately..i am preemptively saying "bring it back" in case it does get the axe

Dave Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 05:38 PM EST

I LOVED Nowhere Man. I was sooo upset when UPN cancelled that. I also really, really loved Harsh Realm and was really upset that Fox didn't give that show a little more time to develop. I also really liked Invasion a lot. Jericho was a good show and I thought it was weak that CBS only agreed to do a miniseries to bring that show to fruition. I let myself watch two new shows this season: Journeyman, and Pushing Daisies. I've heard Pushing Daisies is doing well, but I'm gonna be bummed when they cancel Journeyman, which I expect will happen probably sooner rather then later. Stupid studio executives . . .

Keen Eddie was amazing, and frankly seven seasons of The West Wing was not enough for me. I need another few seasons of a Santos presidency.

pixiespymagic Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 03:19 PM EST

Veronica Mars!!!

mickey Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 02:43 PM EST

Arrested Development, The Comeback, Andy Barker P.I.

Vince Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 02:36 PM EST

Arrested Develpoment
Futurama
Andy Richter Controls the Universe
Clerks the Animated Series
Freaks and Geeks
Undeclared (seeing what Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen can do with dirty words means this would have to be an HBO or Showtime production)
And I can't believe no one else on this list has voted to bring back the inspired lunacy of the short lived
CLONE HIGH
Bill Lawrence having the complete freedom of an animated show puts Scrubs and Spin City to shame. Name one other show that has ever had the balls to cast Michael J Fox in the guest role of a Lonley Kidney. (the organ, not the bean)
And for all the love given to Firefly, I'm glad that some people are speaking for its fellow Friday night death mate John Doe

And 30 Rock. A show that good has to get cancelled. It also had Will Arnett and Andy Richter as guest stars and Won the Emmy for best comedy. So we've got another half season in 2008-09 then its showtime for the Bluths, I mean Liz Lemon.

Josh Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 02:36 PM EST

I totally forgot Slings and Arrows. The best written show I've ever seen but it only aired on Sundance.

RakuMon Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 02:33 PM EST

Er... Journeyman?

And let me second the DS9 comment!

Long live Captain Sisko!

g Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 02:26 PM EST

i don't know you, but I love you and Profit! I remember being disappointed when it was cancelled. bought the dvds for a friend as soon as they were released!

Melissa Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 02:23 PM EST

Dead Like Me - how can you NOT love a show about grim reapers?
Carnivale - I feel so cheated and unsatisified!
Crusade - am I the only person who remembers this spin off from Babylon 5? Quest to save the planet from a deadly virus within five years! Peter Woodward was a hoot as Galen, a technomage.

Okay, done geeking out now.

t3hdow Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 02:21 PM EST

I'm one of the few who wanted to know what happened after Dark Angel season 2, but I can live past its cancellation. The same can be said with Drive. I just knew looking at the show it would be cancelled, though I'm still curious over how it ended. However, I'm still irritated over Reunion being cut off halfway through. Just when things started really getting heated in the past and present, Fox cut it off (they didn't even let the other remaining episodes run). Also, even though I arrived a little late to the Firefly party (I'm a Serenity convert), it didn't deserve to be cancelled.

Chandler Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 02:17 PM EST

Arrested Development and Veronica Mars. I'm still holding out for those movie rumors.

anon Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 02:07 PM EST

I'm surprised that I haven't seen listed a show that really needs to come back, Joan of Arcadia.

Seriously, I've been mad at CBS since they cancelled that show. Still mad.

American Gothic

yellowbug Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:56 PM EST

My top 5:
1 Firefly
2 Firefly
3 Firefly
4 Firefly
5 Firefly

PAL Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:50 PM EST

Boomtown - missing Donny Wahlberg on TV
Brooklyn South - good call!
Third Watch - didn't like the way it ended
Cupid - pre-Entourage Jeremy Piven didn't get a chance to shine
Some shameless, mindless, extra cheesy nighttime soap along the lines of Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, Flamingo Road (you know you watched!!) - Desperate Housewives is not quite doing it for me.

Minutiae Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:47 PM EST

Now that Big Shots is dead, Christopher Titus is available to revive his s/t comedy, which was one of the funniest, most underrated sitcoms ever. Stacy Keach returning as Papa Titus is a must, though.

Bring back Veronica Mars! Seeing the great Kristen Bell on Heroes - a fun but not very smart show, makes me long for the wit and brilliance of Veronica Mars.
Ditto on Firefly too, of course, as well as the other Joss Whedon shows (Buffy, Angel) that should still be going on.

kmiller13 Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:31 PM EST

I'm going back a little bit farther, to the late 90's, with "Sports Night." One of the best sitcoms ever on TV.

Stephanie T. Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:28 PM EST

I think that that only funny episode of "It's like...you know?" was the car chase episode where everyone was at home watching an OJ like character being chased by the police. The problem with the show was that the writer was trying to do another Seinfeld and of course Seinfeld can't be recycled.

How about "Due South", "Brooklyn South (which was pulled off the air for being too violent)", "Davis Rules!","Sibs", and "The 5 Mrs. Buchanans".

Day Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:28 PM EST

Agreed on Firefly - if only to have been given a better ending!
Also American Dreams (which I haven't even seen all of, on accounts that NBC is dumb and will not put them all on DVD).
Veronica Mars shouldn't have been dead, but at least it got three good seasons.
Oh, and even though it was supremely cheesy and only lasted 12 episodes, I'd've loved to see more of Kindred: the Embraced. Updated for now, of course. Then, maybe it wouldn't be quite so cheesy. Maybe.

Kerri Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:28 PM EST

God, Firefly, Firefly and more Firefly. I missed it while it was actually airing (thanks FOX...), saw Serenity in the theatre, fell in love with it, and was thrilled to find 14 wonderful Firefly episodes. I've lamented the loss of lots of my TV shows, but Firefly tops the list, by far.

moonshake Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:21 PM EST

duh! I forgot CRIME STORY! Did Ray Luca and Michael Torello really go down in flames in a plane crash or did a last-minute miracle happen like at the end of Season 1 when Paulie Taglia & Ray Luca seemed to have blown up real good on the Nevada Nuclear testing range only to have made it out alive for Season 2? I wanna know. And "Paulie's Dream" - best episode.

Shaun Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:17 PM EST

Glad to see a couple other people mentioned Deep Space Nine. For anyone interested (or if you missed one of the best shows of the 90's when it first aired) you can catch reruns on (ugh) Spike three nights a week: Mon.-Wed. nights late night.

What a shame such a great show gets such a cruddy timeslot. Also a shame that Firefly (while deserving) got a big screen revival but DS9 likely never will.

Baco Noir Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:13 PM EST

Invasion, definitely Invasion (sigh, I miss that show!)
And if only to give the creators a chance to end them...
The Nine
Daybreak
The Fugitive remake (it ended with bullets heading towards the hero's head!)
Traveler

Shaun Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:11 PM EST

I'm joinging this party late, so perhaps someone's already mentioned it, but I wish Paramount would find a way to bring back Star Trek - Deep Space Nine. It may not have been as popular as the original Trek (or Next Gen), but many fans feel it was the best Trek.

It broke the old Trek formula and blazed its own, challenging, trail by dealing with contemporary issues better than any of the other Treks. In many ways, sadly, the show seems more relevant in today's political climate than when it first aired. DS9 also had the best, most diverse group of characters too.

It ended with a lackluster finale, but it left the door wide open for a return. Too bad the studio's more interested in re-inventing the original Trek instead. Shows like Farscape and Babylon 5 were revived with TV movies/miniseries. Why not DS9? It was more popular than either of those shows. Sisko lives... And long live DS9!

Missy Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 01:09 PM EST

American Dreams, LOVED that show!

stephanie Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 12:59 PM EST

I am not sure if anyone mentioned this one or not, but I loved Popular. It ended on a major cliffhanger.
Ditto on Reunion and Veronica Mars.

moonshake Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 12:59 PM EST

Strange Luck (D.B. Sweeney)
Hamish Macbeth
Point Pleasant

B&DS Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 12:57 PM EST

How about:
The Pretender - never did see the movies that were suppose to wrap up the series
Nikita - anyone remember this from USA before they started reruns?

puma Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 12:49 PM EST

when i was a kid, i loved this show called manimal, i only saw a few episodes but always wanted more. basically, it was about this dude that can turn into animals to solve crimes or whathaveyou.

benjamin barker Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 12:45 PM EST

YO OLD_DUDE jericho is coming back, albeit only slightly. didn't you hear about the NUTS? Now that was an example of people working together and letting their voice be heard. If only it happened more often. And why, god, tell me why in the hell is ER still on the air? How many more cases can they really come up with before the show go into reruns with new faces? Around the time Noah Wyle left. Lets face it, if Noah Wyle thinks he can do better elsewhere, maybe you should take a hint!

Susie Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 12:39 PM EST

I am so glad people have mentioned Dead Like Me. That show was so great and it was just getting started. I miss it :(

Also:
Freaks and Geeks
The O.C.
Reunion - (I'll join the chorus: WHO DID IT?)
and I completely 100% second Supermarket Sweep. It was magic.

TV's the premier medium right now--movies had their heyday back in the 70s, but now with tivo and TV on DVDs, TV is becoming something new and different entirely. Just a shame that we've still got archaic studios in charge of all the money that probably have the worst track record in terms of picking right. Why is ER still on the air, and Deadwood is over?

Sue Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 12:17 PM EST

Old_Dude Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:56 AM EST

Firefly
The Class
Jericho
Invasion
Jeremiah
Brisco County Jr.

Good call on The Charmings, I had forgotten that one.

Van Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:53 AM EST

The two shows I'd bring back are:

The Kindred - about several modern day clans of vampires (based on the role playing game "Kindred: The Mascarade). The show was a summer replacement series about 10 or 12 years ago and despite a few soap-opera plot lines, it was by far the most intelligent vampire-related series on TV prior to the Buffy and Angel universe.

Wolf Lake - a series about a Northwestern town full of shapeshifters that originally aired on CBS before CBS cancelled it and the remaining episodes were picked up on UPN. Sure, it could be a bit campy and over the top, but it also had a lot of humor (like the 12-step program for recovering shapeshifters).

Jessie Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:52 AM EST

I WANT ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT BACK!! And Life as We Know it AND Freaks and Greeks AND Undeclared. Oh, and the Black Donnelly's.

Charlie Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:52 AM EST

When I look at my collection of TV on DVD, it makes me realize how much I want more from these shows:

--Arrested Development
--Veronica Mars
--Chappelle's Show (I know it wasn't canceled, but still...)
--Freaks and Geeks
--My So-Called Life (Catalano!)

Gone, but not forgotten.

A Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:24 AM EST

Geez, you guys are good! I agree with these picks:

Boomtown -- really good, quality show
Reunion -- I still want to know how it ended, they should put the episodes online
Veronica Mars -- recently canceled, but one of the best shows in the last few years. It's a shame it didn't catch on with viewers...

Antoinette Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:20 AM EST

Someone else said "Homefront" which just disappeared one day and I don't recall there being an actual ending. "Animaniacs" and "Batman The Animated Series". I would also love to have seen more of "MDs" starring John Hannah and William Fichtner. How come every good show with William Fichtner, (hello "Invasion"), gets cancelled? (Except for Prison Break - but that is not what I call a good show.) And "The Mole" was awesome! And "Firefly" too of course but I agree with other posters that now since Wash is dead you really can't bring it back.

linda Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:16 AM EST

Firefly - the only TV show I never saw on the air (came to it through the film, Serenity); Would love, love, love to see more!
Boomtown - fantastic show
Rome - also spectacular
Deadwood - awesome.
All the other shows I'd seen while they were airing - Firefly, though is unique in that its fanbase is growing as people discover the DVDs, watch the series, and are amazed that such a brilliant piece of entertainment was canceled.

paige Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:13 AM EST

TWIN PEAKS!!! ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT!!! THE COMEBACK!!!

Glenn Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:12 AM EST

I agree with you LeapDayBaby, I would love to see the classic soap opera Another World back on TV. It was just regaining its' old form when NBC cancelled it back in 1999. I haven't watched any soap operas since.

Wilson Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:07 AM EST

Ok, this is going back a few years, but Fox's show 'Reunion'! It was the one about the six friends, one of whom ends up murdered, and it follows them from 1985 to 2005, in order to figure out who killed who. It only needed ONE SEASON and they canceled halfway through. Still kind of bitter about that one, I don't enjoy not knowing endings.

Oh, and 'Invasion'. I thought 'Invasion' was good too.

Heather Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:05 AM EST

Quantum Leap (yes I realize it had a 'finale', but it never really gave any true closure!)

JillS Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 11:02 AM EST

Lucky Louie w/ comedian Louis C.K. Funny and honest blue collar comedy. Reminded me of early "Roseanne".

Don't laugh... Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 10:55 AM EST

There is a show called "Clean Sweep" on TLC that I am watching old re-runs of. Apparently it lasted two seasons and was cancelled years ago, but I am just watching it for the first time and find it to be the utterly enthralling. The premise is: an organizer, a designer, a carpenter, and a bubbly host help a family un-clutter and redesign rooms in their house. I know it sounds about as edgy as sesame street, but I find it completly enchanting and addictive. If they can't bring it back, than they should at least put them on DVD. The show has turned me into a huge Peter Walsh fan, and I use his advice to this day to keep my home and life free of unnecessary clutter.

Space above and Beyond

Hamburger Royal Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 10:37 AM EST

I'm going to take a minority position here. I don't want any show back. Maybe I am just scared of producers ruining it, but can there be a more fitting end for Firefly than the (SPOILER ALERT - just in case) guy in the suit saying "Well - here I am"? Or for Veronica Mars with that non-ending. Just imagine how many people would have posted The O.C. had Fox pulled the plug after the scripted awesomeness that was season 1. That being said, sometimes I wish there would be a law mandating at least two seasons of preproduction. I would have loved to see more Firefly at the time (maybe not too late for Veronica Mars for a re-pickup of the college timeline - you hear me, CW?), but I doubt a pickup after a few years would meet our expectations, especially if the show progressed into, say, a movie, with show universe affecting discoveries.

My So-Called Life & Carnivale...both were just getting started...and Carnivale ended with so much left up in the air!

LeapDayBaby Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 10:29 AM EST

Here's my list - three obvious ones, and one that I haven't seen mentioned yet:

1) Arrested Development
2) Futurama
3) Homicide: Life on the Street - but only if they bring back the pre-season 6 cast and not the Four Detectives of the Apocalypse who killed the show (aka Ballard, Falsone, Gharty & Michael Michele's character, whose name I've blocked from my mind for eternity)
4) Another World - yes, it's a soap opera and yes, it was cancelled years ago, but I still miss the good folk of Bay City. I used to get my AW fix on SoapNet until they stopped showing reruns :(

Heather Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 10:20 AM EST

FIREFLY of course!

Allison Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 10:20 AM EST

- Arrested Development (of course)
- The Mole
- Stark Raving Mad (with Neil Patrick Harris and Tony Shalhoub - it was so good, and so short-lived)

BrandoNorman Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 10:19 AM EST

Firefly and Arrested Development.

Gee, and both shows were on Fox. Why could it be that such great shows get canceled on Fox?

El Franco Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 10:15 AM EST

To all Whedon fans out there who don't know it. There is life after being cancelled and that is comic books. Whedon has already resurrected Buffy, and now Angel, and Firefly again all in comic book format. It might not be the widescreen high definition world we wish to see on TV, but I know Joss wants some way to have his loyal fans to know his great characters live on. So go to your comic book store near you and pick them up! If you don't know where a comic book store is then call the comic book locater service at (1-888-266-4226)to find one near you.

FARSCAPE! - an absolutely compelling blend of comedy, drama, romance, and action with some of the wittiest dialogue and electric chemistry ever to grace the small screen.

leeloo Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 10:01 AM EST

-Popular (i seriously need to know what happened to Brooke! who cancels a show on a cliffhanger!)
-Undeclared
-Freaks and Geeks
-My So-Called Life (ahhh, Jordan Catalano)
-Starman (i was a card-carrying member of the Starman Army whose purpose was to bring Starman back)
-Roomies (come on...Burt Young and Corey Haim as mismatched roommates-you can't lose!)

LJM Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 09:54 AM EST

FIREFLY (without a doubt)
SURFACE (does no one remember this show?)
THE NINE (at least give us to the end of a season!)
ACTION (absolutely brilliant with Jay Mohr & Ileanna Douglas)
and lastly,
QUARK (because it was silly and had rock bottom production values!)

Cristina Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 09:48 AM EST

Keen Eddie. The whole American cop on the London beat humored me - and he was dreamy to look at too.

Marie Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 09:43 AM EST

Ooo... I totally miss Jack & Bobby. Christine Lahti was AMAZING. And the 12-year-old in me really wishes that Nickelodeon would bring back Roundhose, my favorite variety music show from the early 90s. Good times! :)

GingerCat Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 09:40 AM EST

I want one more season of Gilmore Girls, and I want Arrested Development back.
Also, I realize I'm the only one, but I was bitter when Fox's "The $treet" was cancelled. That was pure entertainment, with a great cast: Jennifer Connelly! Jennie Garth! Adam Goldberg! Tom Everett Scott! Christian Campbell! And it vanished without a trace in those pre-internet downloads, pre-DVD box set days.
Also agree with those who would've liked to have seen more "Miss Match" and more "Ed."
I also wouldn't have minded seeing the full season of "Push, Nevada." I liked it, OK?

Mona Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 09:38 AM EST

The Comeback

RP Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 09:28 AM EST

Anything by Joss Whedon goes without saying. I'm glad someone else has already mentioned "The Mole" and "The Tick". "Brimstone", "Roar" also already mentioned.

But why has no one else mentioned, "The Pirates of Dark Water"? That show was awesome and they were halfway through their quest when they canceled it. ARGH!

"Gargoyles" - Again, no one's mentioned it. Also bring back the creator to write for it.

"Batman: The Animated Series" - I still maintain that this is the coolest incarnation of Batman and that includes the live action films.

cory Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 09:15 AM EST

Of course, I'd love "Arrested Development" to come back - and the commenter who suggested "Andy Richter Saves the Universe" is a genius, but my #1 choice is "Twin Peaks", if only long enough to resolve the Season Two cliff-hanger.

LMB Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 09:14 AM EST

Angel - Was the darkest, most complex and interesting, and best of the Joss Whedon shows, especially during Season 5 when it was wrongly cancelled. Loved Firefly also.

(Spoiler, although if you are on this board you probably already know it...I'm just trying to be considerate) I miss Firefly as much as the the other posters on the board, but don't you think it wouldn't be the same without Wash? You'd have to start the show before the movie, but they learned so much in the movie. I think the movie pretty much sealed the fate of any comeback. Still, fanboys and girls can still dream...
I for one would love me some Star Trek, even old episodes at a normal hour of the day (1 a.m. on G4 does not cut it)

Allison Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 08:38 AM EST

WONDERFALLS

I am a huge fan of Bryan Fuller's work (Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies) so when I found out about a show he did called Wonderfalls that was cancelled but still lives on DVD, I had to buy it. I love the show so much and can't believe Fox only aired 4 episodes before kicking it to the curb.

Beth Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 08:36 AM EST

Dead Like Me
Veronica Mars
And a better ending for Gilmore Girls

Derek Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 08:29 AM EST

Space: Above and Beyond - see all the elements that the new Battlestar Galactica "borrowed"! Great show that was just starting to hit it's stride when it was cancelled after its first year.
Angel - the 5th and last season was its best. How many shows get better as they go on?
Alias - as someone else said, it would have to return to the quality of the first 2 seasons. They'd probably have to get JJ Abrams back involved... Bionic Woman seems to be imitating Alias but it only makes me miss Alias more!

Erica P Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 08:20 AM EST

I would have to say Felicity. I absolutely loved that show. Give me more Ben and Noel! I also cast a vote for Jack & Bobby. I don't think it was given enough of a chance.

Diane Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 08:19 AM EST

Firefly
Buffy (SMG-you don't have a movie career worth watching but you were a brilliant Buffy)
Quantum Leap

jeff Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 08:03 AM EST

Firefly! Why does some TV exec with 1/2 a brain attempt to tap in this fan base (which is much larger now than during its first run) and take a shot at bring this show back? They'll take no thought to relaunch junk like the bionic woman just because its "branded". Isn't Firefly/serenity "branded" now? Nobody wants a relaunch of this show 15 years from now (with an all new cast and new writer/director/producer), they want the real thing now. And why not cable TV? Imagine what HBO could do with a show like this. Serenity was a bit darker than network TV would allow, but still tame by cable standards. I dream, though I know it'll never happen, just like hoping real democracy gets restored in this country...

Half & Half (I miss Big Dee Dee)

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT - Still the best comedy ever!
Once and Again
Third Watch

Laura K. Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 07:50 AM EST

Neil--
Yes Yes Yes! I LOVED The Mole. But you're right, Anderson Cooper was the heart and soul of it, and I'm afraid he's now too respectable for reality TV. But it was a brilliant show.
The other one I thought of was "Any Day Now." It was this great show on Lifetime about two women, played by Annie Potts and Lorraine Toussaint, who had grown up as best friends in the sixties, and how that had shaped them (and how it hadn't). The story moved back and forth between flashbacks of them as children and their lives now. I just miss that there used to be family dramas, and they were actually good and interesting TV.

Cranky Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 07:39 AM EST

Arrested Development-- I miss it so, although 30 Rock is kind of like its younger cousin (that it would totally make out with if given the chance).

tma6469 Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 06:44 AM EST

A few years ago, I loved a show called "Invasion". It was so cool and had an excellent season ending cliff hanger. Then it got cancelled. I'd be happy just for one episode to find out what happened after that cliff hanger. Plus , Tuesday nights still aren't the same since "Buffy" went off the air.

Neil Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 06:18 AM EST

Are reality shows allowed? If so, THE MOLE definitely needs to be given another chance. Anderson Cooper must return as the host, though. ABC really ran that one into the ground with the celebrity editions, but the two preceding seasons were some of the best reality television that has aired.
Other than that, Veronica Mars, Arrested Development, Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, and the entire Whedonverse should make a triumphant return to television someday. If only they can reassemble the original casts...

L Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 06:11 AM EST

Freaks and Geeks (seriously, I would give up a nut to have this show back)
Arrested Development (of course)
Third Watch (because it never got old and I miss it a whole lot)

Arrested Development, Freaks and Geeks, Popular, Reunion, Studio 60, Strangers With Candy, and (although it wasn't canceled), I loved Daria.

jb Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 03:34 AM EST

Freaks and Geeks
Veronica Mars
Jack & Bobby

By far the best cancelled shows that weren't dragged on too long (love Gilmore Girls but it was time)

joan catskills Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 03:21 AM EST

1. Arrested Development--'nuff said.
2. Jake 2.0--It was like Chuck, but good. And Christopher Gorham is so fine, Ugly Betty doesn't use him enough.
3. Strangers With Candy--it ended perfectly, but sometimes I long for an afternoon of new adventures with my favorite "closeted" teachers, Noblet and Jellineck.
4. Andy Richter Controls the Universe--I am dying for a DVD release, at minimum. One of the absolutely funniest shows of the last decade, and completely underrated.
5. The Adventures of Pete and Pete--I loved it then and I love it even more now. It's like magical realism brought to television, and way more satisfying than the new Love in the Time of Cholera movie.
6. Buffy--It ended because SMG wanted a movie career. Yeah, right Scooby-Doo 2. Go back to Sunnydale.

Other shows that I would love to see resurrected:

4) Undeclared
5) Studio 60

- Molly Ringwall, Lauren Graham and Jenna Elfman, how could you go wrong.

Also, the Black Donnelly's last year.

Kari Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 11:08 PM EST

Veronica Mars-for serious, did her dad win the election? did she end up with piz or logan? how was wallace's trip to Africa? okay I don't really care about that last cliffhanger, but it all ended so suddenly and I just wasn't ready to say goodbye to my favorite little sleuth.
Firefly-I would also settle for a sequel to serenity, which was an awesome movie for those who have not seen it.
Felicity-This is a little reaching since it ended with her college experience and all, and while four years is enough for some people I would have liked more. Oh, wait, she did go back to school to be a doctor. We should have gotten to see that too!

Denise Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 10:56 PM EST

Oh, I agree with Wonderfalls and I'm not sure anyone else mentioned:

Karen Sisco! That show was on for such a short time yet it was stylish, brilliant.

And for the record, I still miss Molly Dodd. Sigh.

BrandonK Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 10:55 PM EST

I'm still waiting for Wonderfalls to come back. And Futurama, although the DVDs are a good start!

annie too Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 10:52 PM EST

The American cop in London was Fast Eddy or something. That was a good show, as far as I remember. As was Gross Pointe.

THE NINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Albeit I'm only in college, but before this show I'd never gotten fully invested in a show it's first season only to have it ripped out from under me. I miss Arrested, Angel, and Early Edition, but at least they all had closure. It broke my heart a little, and I wrote a sappy article about cancelled TV heaven for my high school newspaper, centering on The Nine.

Bil Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 10:43 PM EST

Deadwood and Rome. Does anyone remember Deadline? It lasted one season and starred Oliver Platt as a NY columnist. Bebe Nuewrith was in there as well. BBC, (brilliant but cancelled)

Sportsnight - I am standing hip-deep in pie
Firefly - Now we all can sing the song about a man named Jayne
Ed - Umm, that third season was just a dream sequence, ok?
Homicide - Sure, it wasn't cancelled, and it got a movie to wrap-up story lines, but Frank Pembleton must be on TV
The Loop - That stillborn second season was just a dream right? Maybe Baker-Hall can play God on Reaper
Early Edition - Kyle Chandler can get the tomorrow's paper today to see if the Dillon Panthers win, right?

Sarah Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 10:32 PM EST

Good topic! I've recently been gorging myself on some TV gems that I missed, and it is so depressing when I reach the end of a series and realize I'm out of DVDs. (tear)

Taken before their time......
1. Arrested Development (who DOESN'T think this show should still be on the air)
2. Veronica Mars (the only explanation for it being cancelled is that it was on the CW)
3. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (everyone had to jump on the "let's hate this show" bandwagon)
4. Scrubs (I know it's not cancelled yet, but this is the last season and it will be soon -sigh)

John from Cincinatti- I always thought this show never got a fair shake because it premiered after the infamous last episode of the Sopranos. Ed O' Neil as the retired cop who talks to his bird was genius. As well as the two gansters from hawaii. Supposedly it was taken of the air because the shows creator was tight with the ex HBO head of programming and no one had any loyalty to it. Friggin travesty the show even had a great Joe Strummer theme song.

RachelB Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 09:59 PM EST

and so glad someone mentioned Grosse Point! Loved that show and ended without closure. Andy Richter Controls the Universe - also very good and very funny.

Homefront - great show! Also with the always reliable Ken Jenkins from Scrubs. I would love to see Gideon's Crossing brought back. A great, underrated show (which featured McSteamy before he was McSteamy), a great Andre Braugher.

"Life" was renewed. Now who knows when a second season will be written, but it was renewed. On the same note, however, Boomtown.

And while I think four seasons of The OC were one season too much, I'd rather they removed half the so-called "plot" of Season 3 and expanded Season 4, which was magic.

You know what I wish would come out on DVD, let alone be resurrected? "Homefront", my first view of Kyle Chandler, about life right after WWII. You'd think it would be topical again what with a war on and people coming back.

Dolphin Cove-only lasted 5 or 6 eps but I had a mad crush on Trey Ames and still find Frank Converse attractive in a fatherly sort of way. I'll Fly Away- I LOVED this show. It was like "To Kill A Mockingbird" brought to life. Great acting, great writing, just a great show.
Just the Ten of Us-Pure guilty pleasure
Salute Your Shorts-ditto
Roundhouse-watched it religously, have a bunch of eps on tape, and still watch it religiously. Be honest, who didn't want a motorized lazy-boy?!
Joan of Arcadia-I was so crushed when they canceled it. How does a show get nominated for best drama one year and get canceled the next? I refuse to even channel surf past Ghost Whisperer. Bah!
Everwood-I second everything already said.
Mickey Mouse Club/Kids Incorporated-Bring in a new bunch of kids and who knows!? We could be watching a future Oscar nominee (Ryan Gosling) or pop diva (Fergie)!

Becky Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 09:19 PM EST

1. Felicity (I have all 4 seasons and am still not satisfied)
2. Friends
3. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
4. Young Americans (it was short-lived but compelling)

LRH Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 09:16 PM EST

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
Wonderfalls
Freaks and Geeks
Undeclared

Dennis Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 09:13 PM EST

Lots of the usual suspects have been listed here, but my personal most-missed show is still Paul Haggis's short-lived "EZ Streets".

Gse23 Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 09:12 PM EST

1. Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip
2. Dead Like Me
3. Firefly
4. Wonderfalls
5. The Class
6. Kevin Hill (tays diggs as a lawyer...anyone?)

Mozz Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 09:03 PM EST

I want to see Buffy Season 8 out of the comic book and onto my glorious television screen.

Kate Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:54 PM EST

American Dreams- so upset when NBC cancelled it

H2 Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:42 PM EST

To name but a few - Crusade; Firefly; Legend of the Golden Monkey (or something like that); Scarecrow and Mrs King

bootsycolumbia Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:39 PM EST

I still miss The O.C. Just as it was starting to improve, FOX yanked it (curse you, FOX!). I'd also add Boomtown, Quantum Leap (except for the horrible last season with the Evil Leaper), Firefly, The Nine and The Black Donnelys. And I don't know if it'll be canceled this season, but I'd like to give props to Life, a terrific show with low ratings that will probably be prematurely canceled.

kmfrots Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:38 PM EST

THE O.C.!!

Smokey Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:38 PM EST

Sports Night, without a doubt. Firefly. Six Feet Under, too. And I don't want anyone to make more episodes of it, but would it kill a TV station to show some reruns of Get Smart sometimes?

MKS Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:30 PM EST

1. Wonderfalls - It was perfectly cast, especially Caroline Dhavernas, and should've been on ABC since it shows love for the quirky shows.
2. Dead Like Me - has the death theme thing going on, but with the perspective of the Grim Reaper, and does so with hilarity.
3. Veronica Mars - Duh.

kim in kentucky Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:26 PM EST

oooooooooooooh - American Gothic - YES (got it on dvd) and shame on HBO for cutting short Carnivale without a clear ending! Rome could have went on for years also

pandabearjones Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:24 PM EST

Does anybody remember that craptastically campy show on MTV called Spyder Games??? My friends and I were obsessed with that show...I also loved American Gothic, which didn't even make it a season I don't think. My boss is still really bitter about Threshold, and as for me, I will forever wonder what could have become of our girl Veronica Mars if only she had been given one more season...

kim in kentucky Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:19 PM EST

and I admit it - I LOVED "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" -- nobody write dialogue like Aaron Sorkin

Megan Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:19 PM EST

Love Monkey!! Did anyone else watch that?

kim in kentucky Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:17 PM EST

So glad somebody mentioned "It's Like, You Know" -- great show. "Book of Daniel" got the shaft unfairly. And of course, "Quantum Leap" - if nothing else -- a satisfying movie to bring Sam back!! (yes, the ending said he never leaped home, but still .....)

JP Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:16 PM EST

I checked the listings & didnt see it.
Was I the only one who watched the Black Donnelys on NBC?
I got 2 see the whole season now playing on HDNET, but now its over (No new eps).
Aside from that, 3rd watch.

AG Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:08 PM EST

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT!!!!!!

Josh Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 08:06 PM EST

First and foremost Arrested Development, I am empty without it.
Next Early Edition.
Then The Jake Effect which never actually aired but was a part of Bravo's brilliant but cancelled. The show starred Jason Bateman, Greg Grunberg, Nikki Cox, and Kyle Gass. It was created by Jonathon Groff. Brilliant and it should have been aired.

Stu Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:59 PM EST

Arrested Development = Greatest show Ever. Even all three DVD seasons leave me lonely for the Bluth Family.

Janet Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:56 PM EST

Alias - but only with the tone and quality of the first two years; I miss it SO, SO much.
Sports Night - too, too short.
Quantum Leap
Early Edition
Deep Space Nine
Star Trek Next Generation
Murder She Wrote (yes, really)

SDA333 Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:50 PM EST

VERONICA MARS - As good as television can get! Will somebody please pick this show up and let Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell run with it? Man, do I miss this show.....

Jenny Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:45 PM EST

I so miss Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I know SMG was tired and it's hard work, but c'mon? Leaving that for Scooby Doo and sequel? Priorities, please.

Oh, and while it may not have been Emmy winning material, I do miss 2 Guys A Girl and a Pizza Place. Please bring it back, if only to give me regular prime time (or late night) doses of Ryan Reynolds.

zoeyzoe Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:39 PM EST

Twin Peaks- loved that show have the 1st and 2nd season on DVD

Eric Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:26 PM EST

Everwood would have to top the list. It was one of the best shows on TV two seasons ago and I bet the CW would love to have Everwoods ratings right now.

Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:25 PM EST

Definitely Firefly #1. Also would have liked to see the ending of Reunion, that was annoying!

Laura Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:22 PM EST

Also:
..Cupid - only with Jeremy Piven and Paula Marshall, but either way it needs to be out on DVD NOW
..Kitchen Confidential - could have been really, really good
..Sports Night - the second best vehicle for Sorkin's genius, after TWW

I would also LOVE a Freaks and Geeks reunion/"Where are they now?" episode with the entire original cast.

Felicity Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:20 PM EST

Felicity - Best show EVER
Everwood - still miss it!
The Nine
Eyes - Why oh why is this not on instead of Private Practice?
The OC - I agree with other posts, it was starting to get good again
Reunion - Gah! I needed closure here
Jack and Jill - LOVED it where is Ivan Sergei this days?
My So Called Life - hello...
Freaks and Geeks
Commander in Chief - Geena wins the GG and then it is gone
Last and certainly not least I miss Alias - Bionic Woman and all the other pretenders are a poor substitute for the always superb JG and the hotter than hot Michael Vartan (may his show Big Shots RIP, I would watch him paint walls for an hour, I don't care).

Hey Hey Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:17 PM EST

Anyone remember Buddy Faro? Funny show.

Lilac Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:16 PM EST

Firefly Firefly Firefly. Taking place BEFORE Serenity so that all the characters can come back.

stephanie Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:13 PM EST

the obvious choices:

-freaks and geeks
-my so-called life
-popular

and the not so obvious ones..

-models inc. (GREAT drama I don't give a damn what anyone says)
-the state-- I mean, really people. I'm hearing all this WAAH WAAH WAHH bring back the gilmore girls and buffy crap and no one wants the state? seriously? this show was WAY ahead of its time and while it was funny to me at the age of 10, it's funny to me now. how could you NOT want the state back? get with it, people!

Laura Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:12 PM EST

Firefly needed (at least) another season - looking back, I really wish SciFi would have picked it up; it would have been a great fit. I second the thought that Dead Like Me was just starting to get good, and it really didn't have a good send-off episode. I could always use more Arrested Development, and based on the popularity of 30 Rock and The Office, I think it could fare better.

Kristin Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:11 PM EST

Zach, I'm 100% with you on bringing the OC back... season 4 was fantastic and I am sure a season 5 would have been great too. And I have to go with Veronica Mars too - if it had been on any other network than the CW, I really feel like it would have gotten a large enough following to survive. sigh.

Zach Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:05 PM EST

I know that it may not be totally popular but I loved the OC. Admittedly the third season was garbage but I thought the show deserved an extension after a terrific fourth year - it ended well, however.

Deadwood, Freaks and Geeks and Sports Night were great and would kill to see new stuff buuuuuut nothing deserves to return more than 'Arrested Development' - the single funniest show of all time.

T.L. Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 07:04 PM EST

Where's the love for KAREN SISCO?

Rachel Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:57 PM EST

1) Boomtown--Some of the best camera work, character development, and most unique plot structure to ever grace TV's presence.
2) Arrested Development--I give Kudos to Fox for allowing it to run three seasons, but it should've been so, so many more.
3) Harsh Realm--Too smart and matrix-esque for it's time, but every bit as cynical and well-shot/produced as the X-files.
4) Now and Again--Where else can you watch a heart-felt sci-fi/drama/comedy/action show?
5) Firefly
6) Jack and Bobby
7) Eyes--smart and sexy
8) Third Watch
9) John Doe--Who the f*ck is John Doe? Still waiting!
10) Vanished--Not the best show on television, but had so many cliffhangers you needed to tune in.

Veronica Mars (I miss my LoVe)!
Jack & Bobby (Good call on whoever first remembered to include this gem on their list)!
Buffy (Yeah it was probably time to say farewell, seven seasons is a long time. But, in my world, there is never such a thing as too much Buffy! *sigh*)!

Sarah C Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:48 PM EST

I'm convinced we the PopWatchers should run the country, or at least the TV networks. We'll keep the According to Jim fans fed on a diet of Arrested Development, Firefly, and Freaks and Geeks.

(I also nominate Rome, Kitchen Confidential, ST:TNG circa 1992, and Central Park West -- a great show to watch when you're 12 and haven't a clue about NYC.)

Dylan Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:47 PM EST

ONCE AND AGAIN!!!!!!! The best show and best cast probably ever. At least a reunion movie, please! Besides that, The Comeback and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I would agree that Firefly deserves to be on the list, but I would add the following:
Deadwood
Out of Practice
Sports Night
Angel
Coupling (BBC Version)

Jules Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:34 PM EST

YES! clare-clare, I loved "Touching Evil"! 'Course, way glad Jaffery Donovan landed "Burn Notice" (yes! back for season 2 next summer!)

A whole bunch of shows mentioned below, plus:

The Evidence (Orlando Jones/Rob Estes)
and Carnivale!
damn HBO.

suzanne Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:17 PM EST

Andy Richter Controls the Universe
Rome
The OC
Arrested Development

OMG I missed Firefly!!! I can't believe I did that! Joss Whedon is awesome!

Alyssa Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:16 PM EST

Definitely Angel. I loved that show.
Freaks and Geeks
Roswell - albeit it needed a major creative pick-me-up
NewsRadio
Felicy

daisyj Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:14 PM EST

I'm probably the only person in the world who wants it back, but I really liked "It's Like, You Know". I mean, pitch perfect LA satire with Jennifer Grey and a touch of absurdism? What's not to love?

LisaMama Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:14 PM EST

Just in case someone is keeping score, my votes got to:
Firefly, Briscoe County Jr, and Sports Night.

Nick Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:13 PM EST

Jack & Bobby
Freaks & Geeks
Dead Like Me

Ryan Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:11 PM EST

Nothing new here, but I'd like to agree with several already mentioned:
Arrested Development (1st and Foremost)
Alias (I got my closure, but I just miss it so much.)
Veronica Mars (That promo was great)
Angel (I want to see where they'd go with Illyria)
Jack and Bobby
The Comeback
Reunion (At least to finish the first season)
Coupling (British version obviously)

arryana Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:08 PM EST

i wholeheartedly agree with the people that named The Charmings and Out of This World...but does anyone remember The Powers That Be - it was the first time I fell in love with David Hyde Pierce...

Raven_Moon Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:07 PM EST

Arrested Development
Firefly
Joan of Arcadia
Freaks & Geeks
Action
Cupid
Veronica Mars
Titus
Once & Again
Andy Richter Controls the Universe

I loved these shows. I miss them.

MC Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:07 PM EST

What about Brian
Eyes
Boomtown
the Nine
Heist on NBC
Thief on FX
Daybreak
Traveler - should have had a shot.
Apparantly I am the only one who watched "Emily's Reasons Why Not". What kind of show gets cancelled after one episode?
Does anyone know if "the Winner" is coming back?

Annabelle Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:05 PM EST

My vote is for Undeclared. I rented the DVDs of the only season they had this summer. It brings back college memories.

Alli Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:05 PM EST

I'm also adding to the chorus praising Dead Like Me - I'm glad there's a movie coming out, but it's just not going to be the same without Mandy Patinkin...

Alli Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:03 PM EST

Kitchen Confidential!

Created by Darren Star, aired as a lead-in for Arrested Development, starring Bradley Cooper/Nicholas Brendan/John Cho/Bonnie Summerville/insert the rest of the amazing cast here...a light frothy cocktail of a show that I'm so sad there will never be more of.

KJ Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 06:00 PM EST

Recent shows -
Arrested Development
Veronica Mars
Everwood
Jack & Bobby

Going back, others that I still miss-
A Year in the Life
Brooklyn Bridge
I'll Fly Away
Homefront

Deb Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:58 PM EST

Alias - I know, the story was over and then some, but I did love it, and I do miss it.

Emily Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:57 PM EST

Boomtown!! This show was amazing, and I actually had to stop a Boomtown marathon because I was crying too hard and was waaay too invested in these characters. The acting is spectacular, especially from Donnie Wahlberg, Neal McDonough, and Mykelti Williamson... Oh, I love them all! Bring back Boomtown, but only if you've got the original cast.

J Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:54 PM EST

Boomtown
Eyes
The Class
Book of Daniel
Everwood
Veronica Mars

Wonderfalls! Quirky, funny and altogether a great show that got pulled way before it's time.

Titans -super so bad its good nighttime drama with victoria principle
Supermarket sweep, I kicked but on that show
Boomtown, for street cred

Arrested Development
Though I am glad that the careers cast (especially Will Arnet and Michael Cera) are doing so well, I still hold a hope in my heart.

I loved NewsRadio as much as the next person but it should have ended once Phil Hartman was selfishly murdered. Lovitz and Foley were like Peanut Butter and Brussle Sprouts.

As for shows being ressurected:

Full House- Just for the dark humor reality: Jodi Sweetin became a meth addict and Michelle became a college drop out who has a lot of money but won't spend it on food.

Hardcastle and McCormick

Sledgehammer

Hack

Arrested Development

The Comeback

Freaks And Geeks

Camp-Automan

Simon and Simon

Riptide

Misfits of Science

Definitely 'Once and Again' -- did someone mention the 3rd Season's on DVD??? Where'd you find that?!?

Fire Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:36 PM EST

Okay, first off: Adrienne, the kid from Drive lived. I honestly can't say how I got a hold of the episode after that one (I don't THINK it was illegal...) but I can tell you that much. I wish they had finished that one too! Maybe it wasn't more than a one season idea, but couldn't Fox have finished that one season?

Firefly goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway in the hopes that someone with licenses is reading all these replies.

Brisco County Jr, because it was just hilarious.

Angel and Dark Angel, because they were both great and in their prime and shouldn't have been cut short. (Though I do adore Booth in Bones, which wouldn't have been possible without Angel being canxed...)

And last but not least, Roar. I'm probably the only person on the planet who remembers this show (Heath Ledger!) but I loved it! I honestly wondered for a while if I'd imagined the whole thing, but then I saw it on DVD. Yay!

Christine (again since I don't want to repel anybody off with my long text) Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:35 PM EST

Veronica Mars
The pop culture gods must hate me! I put up (and I admit sometimes gave up on) with a mediocre Season 3 only to be AMAZED by the FBI academy season 4 preview...after the C-freakin'-W canceled it!

MC Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:35 PM EST

I too have been burned by many a Fox show. Drive, the Loop, Reunion, Fastlane, John Doe, Firefly. Most recently Standoff - unbelievable chemistry between the two leads.
Knights of Prosperity and In Case of Emergency were fun.
Brooklyn Bridge from way back - outstanding funny family show.
How about Models Inc. - what can I say, I was 15

Michelle Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:32 PM EST

Veronica Mars! Granted, Kristen Bell is on Heroes, but I just ain't feeling her there.

Jetcharger Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:30 PM EST

1. Journeyman - Apparently it's going to be cancelled. Best show on TV since "Friends"
2. Jericho - Bring it back Full time.
3. Enterprise - I want my Star Trek fix.

JoanneS Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:29 PM EST

Eyes with Tim Daly heading a PI Agency. It was sophisticated, dark and twisty. Some idiot at ABC yanked it after only four episodes.

steph Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:28 PM EST

EVERWOOD!
right when it was getting good the over used 7th heaven got the call back from the next season and Everwood was left behind in it's dust. How unfair was that?

Christine Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:28 PM EST

-Wonderfalls
-Dead Like Me
Too bad we never got to see what Brian Fuller was fully capable of. Though I'd prefer it if Lee Pace kept "pushing daisies" with Anna Friel:)

Cato Chris Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:27 PM EST

I agree with most of the concensus (Firefly, Arrested, etc.) Loved the Airwolf/Wiseguy shout out (even if it was for someone's MOM). Must add 2 Friday night TiVo pleasures: Fastlane, a sugary delicious confection; and John Doe, which was actually good and jump started my crush on Dom Purcell. Both ended so very abrubtly, I wrote into EW's What Would Have Happened? feature (what happened to that?!). Billie being shot up with heroin! John discovers his BF is really The Man chasing him!

Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:24 PM EST

I'm seconding Tru Calling and adding one where the name escapes me but it was about a guy (Kyle Chandler, I think) who got tomorrow's newspaper the morning before and had to fix things that went wrong.
Shout outs also for:
Angel
Quark (was on like a 100 years ago or so)
Herman's Head
Millenium

bre Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:23 PM EST

Yeah, I am going to have to go along with the crowd here and scream "Arrested Development" at the top of my lungs.
I'll add "Freaks and Geeks" as well, though I won't scream that one quite as loudly. The ol' voice box can only take so much.

Bronson Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:22 PM EST

Some of these have already been listed but I'd say:
- Wonderfalls
- The Tick (live action)
- Jack & Bobby
- Arrested Development
- NewsRadio (I would have liked one more season, that's all!)

Elizabeth Tue, Dec 11, 2007 at 05:19 PM EST

Also Jake in Progress - I really enjoyed this Uncle Jessie vehicle.
