'Real World: Sydney' recap: The absurdness continues!

Dec 6, 2007, 01:47 PM | by Lindsay Soll

Categories: Mini TV Watch, Reality TV

Dunbar_l Okay, I'm going to keep this short, because life is too precious to spend more than a skinny minute discussing Real World: Sydney. Bearing that in mind, here is my list of  The Top Three Moments From Last Night's Episode:

3. Kelly Anne and Ashli dined at a restaurant named "Blackbird Cafe." Admit it, you thought it was oddly apropos, too.

2. Isaac swam in the house fish tank. Naked. Not sure who I felt worse for: the fish or the cameramen.

and No. 1, drum roll please...

1. Dunbar (pictured) cheated on his gf— whom he loves, in case you hadn't heard— by doing the nasty (emphasis on nasty) with temptress Ashli! OMG.

Discuss!

hey trisha i am speaking for the whole world that watched your sorry ass you are nothing, why not just kill your self. i dont think any of your house mates would mind and you kind of remind me of skelatore with inflated lips and lots of whorish make up hate to see you without it but this could all just be joke for sorry ass sake

It's so hard to watch this show anymore its a good thing the season is over. Dunbar- something is wrong with you, you need to get serious help. The way you treat people is not okay, I don't even understand how you have a girlfriend in the first place. As far as the comments below- Ashli is a beautiful, intelligent and well-spoken person. If my boyfriend cheated on me, I would hate the other girl and her hooking up with Dunbar was obviously wrong, however he is not completely blameless. He treated her like a piece of ****, just like he did every other girl in that house at some point. He needs to shut up he's just crazy. Everyone else I thought was fine, nothing to really say...except Trisha of course who I won't even begin to comment on

I think the term "bipolar" has become a popular, widely (mis)used term to describe significant moodiness in a person. A word and, more importantly, a type of character that people should be more aware of is sociopath. This describes a person who uses people as inanimate objects in order to gain power- physically, emotionally, financially, etc.- and does not feel guilt or concern for others. A sociopath is capable of putting on a good show that looks like he/she is sensitive and caring, but this is a strategy. I firmly believe from what I have seen on The Real World (which I realize is not even close to "real") that Dunbar is a sociopath. I think that MTV should make a public service announcement about sociopaths and how to identify them after each episode of the Real World Sydney.

This is very serious, I think that Dunbar is Bipolar, the way his emotins jump from happy to sad to just angry in a second hes all over the place and cant control his emotions, usually bipolar is trigerd by somthing that happens in the past like him being abused! For real Dunbar needs to get help before he hurts someone.

Lindsay...keep writing about RW! Yes, it's a guilty pleasure...but more people watch it than one would think!

anty Mon, Dec 10, 2007 at 03:50 PM EST

I love how Dumy-bear said to Ashli (worst spelling ever!!!) "You know if I didn't havea gf it'd be on right?" like THAT makes it ok!! His gf is too beautiful and classy to be with a scuzzy cheat like him!! Good thing he showed his colors and probably got a nasty surprise soon after!!

Ellipsian Fri, Dec 7, 2007 at 04:54 PM EST

Let me get this straight, Lindsay: We're to pity the cameraman for having to look at the adorable, fit, and kooky-yet-refreshingly-honest Isaac naked?! Really?! And here I was thinking that those were the luckiest fish on the planet...

Kay Fri, Dec 7, 2007 at 03:28 PM EST

This is one of the worst shows ever. Parisa is the only sane person. Ashli is a complete slut and doesnt seem very bright. The only good thing about this show is that Trisha left!

anne Fri, Dec 7, 2007 at 02:46 PM EST

let me just say: thank God for Isaac! I loved the fact that the moment he got back and learned that Trisha was gone he got all celebratory. Then those 2-faced B***** (Kelli Ann & Ashli) totally turned and said, "Oh yeah Trisha was b**** but I totally forgot.) Big Duh! It was as if the roommates bad treatment of Parisa had never happened. And then there is the whole Ashli and Dunbar mess. For someone who LOVES his girlfriend he didn't waste much time before doing the deed with idiot Ashli. Both of them knew the consequences and still did it anyway and don't even think they were drunk. I hate it when people do stupid things but at least it makes for entertaining TV. With all the antics of the last few eps its been a great season of RW. I feel dirty after watching but still i watch. the reunion show should be legen-wait for it-dary

lauren Fri, Dec 7, 2007 at 12:27 PM EST

I could have seen from a mile away that Dunbar and Ashli were going to hook up. I'm suprised it didn't happen sooner by the way they dance all up on each other at the clubs and the things they say to each other. I can't believe he told his girl friend "nothing" when she asked what he did after he said she might hate him. His girlfriend should break up with him after everything he has done including cheating on her on tv for everyone to see.

clarabelle Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 10:15 PM EST

SO GLAD that someone called out how awful Trisha was. I've watched this show for a long time (lord knows why) and always had housemates I disliked but I have NEVER felt so much like I wanted to punch one of them in the face as Trisha. She was delusional and completely self-absorbed and the Isaac/Ashli convo about her pinpointed it.

Green Gummi Bear Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 05:23 PM EST

Ashli is starting to be an ugly person, she just has that...look...that even if you may think she's kinda cute, something is rotting at her core. I'm not sure if its disdain or some other kind of snotty superiority, but she's shown it to that girl in the bar and Parisa, and she's starting to get pissy at the boys in the house. Part of me thinks she and Dunbar are perfect for each other, the guy's a hole to his GF on the phone, CG is on the money that he's going to be a spouse abuser, he just has that attitude that women are there for his amusement, as long as they worship him, but if there's even a hint of disagreement, like his GF just mentions that he's calling her at an odd hour (late or early, not sure), he gets passive agressive and verbally abusive. So enjoy Ashli, take this guy off of his GF's hands, she deserves a lot better. Sure hope the minute of selfish, hiding from the camera sex was worth it. No way that guy puts any effort, let alone feeling.

CG Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 04:44 PM EST

This RW is kind of awesome. The roommates are so awful to Parisa! I love that she's not a shrinking violet, and that she calls them out on their phoniness.

I bet that Ashli has been in that house for no more than 10 days. Dunbar is so fake, and can't you tell he's a soon-to-be spouse abuser. Him cheating is the best thing to happen to his girlfriend. Ashli (is this really how it's spelled, cause that means her parents set her up to be a vapid moron) deserves him.

tenny Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 03:24 PM EST

dumbar and ashli dancing around the subject of just getting it on was pathetic. it was so annoying that i felt like shouting at the tv, "just go and do it already! I give you my consent, just as long as you shut up and stop acting all flirty and innocent" Good gawd.

Also, what about the previews for next week? Something about a condom breaking? Juicy.

Brooke Murdock Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 02:49 PM EST

I am constantly amused/appauled by how quickly everyone's opinions can be swayed. The four remaining people in the house ignored Parissa to the point that they all slept in the same room, leaving her all alone. Then when Isaac came back and reminded everyone that no one like Trisha because she was selfish and mean, everyone decided to be buddies with Parissa again as if nothing happened. The blatant contraditions that Kelly Anne alone tossed out in that 30 minute episode really showcase the fact that those kids have attention spans relative to the goldfish the ever adorable Isaac swam with.

realworldlover Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 02:49 PM EST

Why did EW stop doing TV Watch on this show? It is juicy, insane, and oh so discussable! I love Isaac and how he came back in and smoothed over all the tension with his wacky comments and antics. I love how Trisha is gone and everyone can now admit that they all despised her in the first place. I love how Parisa is feeling more like herself. She has lots of good qualities, but I think that she needs to learn how to be more flexible and forgiving. Kelly Anne (who's basically a good girl, just a bit immature) looked genuinely sorry, but Parisa made her apologize like a thousand times anyway. You can see why Parisa has trouble getting along with people. I love how messed up Dunbar is--and how he's so unaware of his messed-upness.

Okay - this is like the worst show in the history of television, yet I cannot stop watching. Similarly, I've hated Dumbyahole since day 1, yet I was still kind of shocked he followed through with Ash...I really hope they were safe - cause their child would be dumber than Kelly Pickler!

Loved how Parisa jumped into Isaac's arms when he walked in and their walk together at the end of the eppy when she jumped in the fountain. At last, she had a friend back in the house.

Isaac lover Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 02:17 PM EST

I love Isaac! He came back to the house, and he was hilarious. I loved the naked fish tank swimming, his conversation with Ashli as to if there were really any good qualities about Trisha, and his coversations with Parisa.

Sarah Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 01:57 PM EST

Past few EPISODES have been fabulous. My bad.

Sarah Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 01:56 PM EST

The past few seasons have been horrible, and this one started out just the same, but the past few have been fabulous and full of drama and I love it. Dumby Bear (Julie's nickname, not mine) is absolutely insane and has zero self control. I'm glad Isaac is back. I wonder if they'll get a new roomie!?
