Are you excited about 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian'?

The trailer for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian hit the Web a couple weeks ago, and it's so excellent, I'm surprised it hasn't generated more buzz. A dark tone with a real sense of urgency seems to have replaced the lighter, magical quality that marked 2005's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (even though the latter flick tackled themes of death and resurrection). And unlike the book for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, I have no real memory of the fourth book in the C.S. Lewis series--hey, I read it a good 20 years ago--which makes me more open to seeing the film, if that's possible. How about you?

It sounds like the hero is saying "I'm Brince Gaspian" when he introduces himself to the kids. The rightful heir to Narnia has nasal congestion. Hence, product placement for Vaposteam or Nyquil.

The only thing I am looking forward to is an updated version of Andy Samberg's lazy Sunday!

May 16th is now on my calender. Can't wait to see it!!!!! 2008 is going to be a year of excellent movies. :o)

I just saw this trailer over the weekend, along with the trailers for the Dark Night and Cloverfield, and I'm actually getting excited about seeing movies again! I think 2008 looks like it might be a better year!

Never read the books (so I have nothing to compared too and or to dissect, thankfully) and liked what the first Narnia movie offered. The trailer does look very good and I am looking forward on seeing it!

I think I saw "The Chronicles of Narnia" on a plane. Blinding white snow? Zzz. Scary talking animals? Zzz. There was an animated version years ago that terrified me so much [I still cringe when I see that decapitated lion] that I camped outside my parents' bedroom door for weeks.

Just re-read the book after fifteen years because of this trailer. Actually, the book, while told in a very folksy, fairy-tale way, pretty much tackles a major war of rebellion, with Caspian leading the resistance fighters/insurgents. There is a major one-on-one sword duel between Peter and the big bad, which I never realized was major when reading the book as a kid, as Lewis never went all out like his buddy Tolkien did with the swordeth slayeth and stuff. But in translation to film it should be interesting. Also the major battle. Will be very interesting to see if and how they include Bacchus and his maenads as part of Aslan's forces. Drunken lecherous youth and mad women fighting on the side of good? Well, I always thought it was so, but it might be provocative for some people... ;)

Ooh, yes, looks excellent! Can't wait.

Caspian was the 2nd book written, but it is the FOURTH chronologically. Magician's Nephew, LW&W, and Horse & His Boy are the first three in chronological order. So yeah, Abby wins.

Well, I've got something to go see May 16. I loved those books as a child, I love them now, and I love that they're being done right.

I actually saw the preview today while watching "National Treasure: Book of Secrets". I must say that before seeing the preview I could not have cared less about seeing "Prince Caspian", but after seeing the preview I'm tempted to actually read the Narnia books and see what it is that everybody loves about them because I've never understood the rabid Narnia love that so many fans have. I was always more of a LOTR fan myself.

I don't care what anyone says, the first movie was great and I honestly loved it. I remember 'King Kong' coming out around the same time as this, and being psyched for that and not 'Narnia.' It turned out I hated 'Kong' and loved 'Narnia.' So yeah, I guess you could say I'm pretty excited for the sequel.

There's some debate about how the books should be ordered, I think partly because although C.S. Lewis wrote them starting with "Lion," he later said they should go in chronological order, starting with "Nephew." But I agree with realgenius, since that's not how I read them growing up! I still have my set from 25-30 years ago - looking forward to reading them to my daughter soon.

There was a Wrinkle in Time movie made for TV a few years ago, I believe. It was on the Sci Fi network or something like that. I don't remember it too well; I guess it wasn't very good. Or maybe it's because I wasn't all that impressed with Wrinkle in Time as a book. Don't know; I just remember that the movie was "meh."

Just seeing the trailer has made me pull out my 20 year old Chronicals of Narnia and plan a good read. It looks great.

treee Sat, Dec 22, 2007 at 02:18 PM EST

trailer looks awesome

realgenius Sat, Dec 22, 2007 at 10:32 AM EST

Yeah it really irks me how they package the books these days. That's not the order I read them in when I was a kid. I'm excited to see Prince Caspian, I remember wanting to eat apples after ever reading. To me it sounds like they will go in the original order. I'm doubting The Magicians Nephew and A Horse and His Boy will ever get made.

Chels Sat, Dec 22, 2007 at 08:20 AM EST

I'm psyched :)

sarah Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 08:57 PM EST

I have no real memory of the Chronicles of Narnia books either...I always confused "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" with "A Wrinkle in Time." They should make THAT book into a movie. They should also really make the book "Heyday" into a movie.

H2 Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 08:32 PM EST

Prince Caspian looks way too old to me, too. The accent doesn't seem right either. Still, I'm excited about seeing this in May - and as with the first one, I will endeavour to forget the book version of the story!

As for the chronological order of the books, that depends on which chronology you are referring to. If it is Narnia's then the order would be The Magician's Nephew; Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; The Horse and His Boy; Prince Caspian; The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; The Silver Chair; The Last Battle. Not all of them will get filmed though ...

Lisa Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 08:14 PM EST

"Prince Caspian" is the 3rd book chronilogically, not the 2nd. The 1st book is "The Magician's Nephew" and not "The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe" like e veryone thinks. In any case, although I'm psyched for the movie, I agree with Martha. My favorite book of the series was "The Horse and His Boy."

Cara Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 07:46 PM EST

I have to confess a teensy bit of interest in the Prince Caspian part of the "Prince Caspian" trailer--I've had my eye on Ben Barnes ever since he was cast, and I have to say, he's Brandon-Routh level of airbrushed perfection. I grew up with the goofy low-budget Narnia movies, and I even dug THEIR goofy version of Caspian, so I'm guessing there might be an inappropriate crush in the works here.
...Not exactly the point of the post, I know. But I had to share my shame--admitting it is the first step, right?

Jonathan F. Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 07:33 PM EST

Looks decent. Maybe i'll rent it, didn't like the first one.

Andy Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 07:29 PM EST

Had no idea that the trailer was out, looks great. I enjoyed Lion, Witch, Wardrobe so this will be a nice summer treat.

Martha Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 07:01 PM EST

Ooh, this looks good. "Prince Caspian" was never my favorite in the series (that would be "The Horse and His Boy") but I'm psyched. I just hope that in ratcheting up the action level of the story (a good third of the book is flashback, recounting Caspian's origins and upbringing) they don't lose the flavor and themes of the original.

Dinah Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 06:50 PM EST

SECOND BOOK. They scrambled the books and are packaging them in chronological order these days (which is absolutely imbecilic, IMHO,) but Caspian is really the second book.

Honestly, I'm more looking forward to 'Voyage of the Dawn Treader' and 'The Silver Chair', which were my favorites growing up. I always glossed over Caspian on rereads.

monica Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 06:35 PM EST

yes very much, even more than the last. i didn't really like the last movie much, so i'm excited this one has action scenes that look kind of similar to gladiator and lord of the rings. i'm in.

Raven_Moon Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 06:13 PM EST

I never read "Prince Caspian" so I'm very excited to see it.

Nathan Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 06:01 PM EST

If Caspian is anything like Lion, Witch and Wardrobe then NO, I'm not even a little excited about it.

Meghan Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 05:24 PM EST

I'm very excited about this movie. Prince Caspian is one of my favorites in the series, but for some reason I always imagined him as being younger than what he is in the trailer.
