Golden Globe snubs: Which one do you take personally?

Dec 13, 2007, 09:11 AM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: 'Desperate Housewives', 'Heroes', 'Lost', 'Ugly Betty', Film, Golden Globes, Television, Water cooler, Whining

Russell_l The Golden Globe nominations are in, and while we await expert analysis from EW's Ken Tucker and Dave Karger (keep an eye on our Golden Globes hub), tell us: Which snub hit you the hardest? There's a lot to choose from. For starters:
• Keri Russell (pictured) for Waitress: Would it have been too much to include her alongside Juno's Ellen Page? No room for two quirky indie pregnancy comedies at the HFPA inn?
Into the Wild: The only love the film got was for Original Score and Song. Sorry, Emile Hirsch and Sean Penn.
Ugly Betty: Only America Ferrera got a nod. Somewhere, a vacationing Michael Slezak is weeping for Vanessa Williams.
The Sopranos: Edie Falco was the sole nominee. At least the network dramas — Lost, Heroes, Desperate Housewives, 24 — weren't the only ones missing from the top TV category. Which leads us to another question:
Which snubs were actually warranted?

In my opinion, "Into the Wild" was the most creative, original and moving film of the year. The movie, Sean Penn and Hal Holbrook, not to mention all the others, should have been nominated. I guess you have to be among the elite Hollywood club to get a nod. I'm disappointed and disgusted.

I'm shocked that Wentworth Miller did not get nominated for best Actor in a drama series nor did Prison Break for best drama series. The writer's strike is not the only crappy thing going on here...obviously the nomination process is also just as crappy.

Briannab Sun, Jan 13, 2008 at 12:09 AM EST

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHERE IS 24!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yea i know it was not 24's best year, but 24's worst year is another shows best year. :D no show could EVER compare to 24. 24 is THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION!! I cannot believe it did not even get nominated. It was still REALLY good, eventhough it didn't have the highest ratings, it was AMAZING, and still kept everyone on the edge of their seats. AHHHH im pulling my hair out here. These nominees are not good. Kiefer Sutherland is the best actor on tv...that's not fair to the cast. Someone should have got recognized.

Excuse me, but where is the nod for "Friday Night Lights"? This a fabulous show with brilliant actors. This show appeals to all ages. What is going on with these judges?

Gossip girl,Heroes and supernatural should be nominated!!!! ...where are them?????

Ronnie Boo Kitty Fri, Jan 11, 2008 at 05:38 PM EST

THE BEST SHOW ON TV IS UGLY BETTY, HANDS DOWN. THE ENTIRE CAST HAS IT'S OWN PERSONAL SHTICK WHICH IS VERY FUN AND VERY ENTERTAINING. NO KILLING, NO VIOLENCE, NO BLOOD, FOR THE MOST PART
SO, I AM VERY HAPPY THAT THERE IS A SHOW ON THE AIR IN THE YEAR 2008, THAT CAN ENTERTAIN US ALL. PLEASE WATCH AND REWARD THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE HOLDING US TOGETHER. AS A GROUP AND AS A NATION. I BOW TO YOU!!!!!!!!!

roger chew Fri, Jan 11, 2008 at 03:52 AM EST

where the hell are heroes, prison break, smallville, friday night lights, and ugly betty? the only one worthy of winning the tv category in the shortlist is greys anatomy. this is nonsense. james spader, wentworth miller and masi oka for male actor plse. katherine heigl will so dominate the supporting actress category. kristin kreuk's portrayal of lana lang from being a goodie goodie girl to a badass character on smallville should receive some recognition too. not forgetting kate walsh's character on private practice. the jump from greys anatomy to the spin off IS impressive isnt it?

JOE Thu, Jan 10, 2008 at 07:19 PM EST

Where the hell is Kery Russell, brilliant performance!!, Where is Heroes in Tv???

Sara Fri, Jan 4, 2008 at 07:30 PM EST

Jane Krakowski was robbed. Seriously.

Brent Thu, Jan 3, 2008 at 03:24 PM EST

"Margot at the Wedding" was completely overlooked. Electrifying, nerve-rattling writing, directing, and acting. Nicole Kidman already has three Golden Globes, but for my money, she deserved another one for "Margot". The omission of "Once" is stomach-churning. Apparently, to make the Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) list, you have to be overblown ("Hairspray") and completely unsubtle (I'm looking at you, "Across the Universe"). Tender, gorgeously understated musicals never make the cut. Keri Russell had me in tears through half of "Waitress," a much more unforced look at unwanted pregnancy than "Juno" (still funny, but a little overrated). And at some point, these people are going to have to take notice of Todd Haynes. He's only one of the most daring, inventive, emotional, MAGICAL directors alive today...its a travesty that he's not nominated. One to cry buckets of rain over, in fact.

Jennifer Tue, Jan 1, 2008 at 11:02 AM EST

Friday Night Lights was totally overlooked. I just don't understand the whole nomination process. FNL is by far the best acted and best written show on televsion! Maybe the HFP just doesn't get such an all american show. Still, I have a difficult time believing they are that narrow minded! Plus, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton got totally robbed! Their acting is beyond great. Plus, they are the most believable married couple on televsion!

none Sun, Dec 30, 2007 at 07:55 AM EST

steve zahn anyone? or christian bale? rescue dawn in general.

and honestly, ellen page's performance is overhyped. it's only because juno is such a indie darling. it's like how abigail breslin got nominated. at least breslin's performance got in on pure memorableness.

page's performance was totally unfunny. she has no comedic timing and there was nothing extraordinary about her performance.

Kevinn Sat, Dec 29, 2007 at 04:17 PM EST

Knocked Up-ROBBED!
Heroes-I understand that.
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES?!?! Dana Delany is AMAZING. Felicity Huffman fantastic! Eva Longoria?!
Grey's Anatomy-SARA RAMERIZ (I spelled that wrong)!? Chandra Wilson
Michelle Pfeiffer for Hairspray!

Susan Wed, Dec 26, 2007 at 11:26 AM EST

I am surprised James Spader has been snubbed. He is a wonderful actor and his portrayal of Alan Shore in Boston Legal is wonderful. He has sustained a high level of performance that never falters, he is truly a consumate actor that deserves recognition.

Vicky Wed, Dec 26, 2007 at 09:53 AM EST

I guess July is too far back for the Globe nominators to remember...Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Sure it was a cartoonish role, but one she nailed perfectly. Now that I have seen her in it, I cannot imagine anyone better in the role.

Robert S Wed, Dec 26, 2007 at 06:48 AM EST

I agree about Katee Sackhoff. She is amazingly talented & always rivetting - way too good for Bionic Woman. If Battlestar was on a commercial network, she would have won a truckload of awards by now, along with many of the other cast members. It's no coincidence that almost every reviewer for Bionic Woman panned the show and the lead but thought Sackhoff was great.

The cast from SVU and Criminal Intent are also consistently outstanding. Vincent D'Onofrio is brilliant.

Josh Mon, Dec 24, 2007 at 08:19 PM EST

Before the Devil knows you're dead
Best Director-Sidney Lumet
Best Actor in a Drama-Philip Seymour Hoffman

To me that is the best show on TV.

bLake Lively and Leighton Meester are fantastic actresses!!

I know nobody's really into "ER" anymore except the people who've been watching it since the beginning. But, despite the fact that the show, while still pretty good, may not quite be up to award-winning quality, certain actors/actresses are. Basically I'm talking about Maura Tierney. She's been doing amazing work for the last 7 or so years and gotten little to no recognition for it. Even if people don't care about "ER", they should care about Maura, because she's working her a** off giving incredible, believable, moving performances every week. Also, I used to love "Weeds", but it wasn't that good this past season. If anyone this season deserves a nomination, it's Elizabeth Perkins.

Sun, Dec 23, 2007 at 01:39 PM EST

good moves by the gg:
1) no heroes is justified...the writing is terrible!
2)nod to Mary-Louise Parker of Weeds...great show
3)all the juno love
4)gosling for lars and the real girl
5) jolie for a might heart..she is worthy

bad, bad moves:
1) great debaters! COME ON!
2) as many have already said, Into the Wild is one of the(if not THE) best movies this year. Hirsch is heart warming, tragic, and everything good in that movie...penn and hirsch got jyped big time
3)margot at the wedding should have gotten something! a nod to kidman or leigh or best pic... anything!
4) once...it is exactly what a musical is supposed to be
5)russel crowe, where are you?
6)Im Not There definately deserves to be there. best pic perhaps?

overall im just a bit comfused...why have so many best pic noms if you dont nom the best pics? how is it that they couldn't decide between No County and the Great Debaters?

all the bad choices begs the question; did they watch half the movies this year?

' Margot At The Wedding ' was one of the best dark comedies I have seen in years. I think David Denby of the New Yorker really hurt this film with his unjust review. it's too bad critics have such power over the masses. Nicole Kidman and the amazing Jennifer Jason Leigh do incredible work in Noah Baumbach's new film. They both deserve nomminations, esp. JJL, who has been overlooked one too many times.

Last year when James Spader won for Best Actor in a Drama, I almost cried.
How ANYONE can compare him with HUGH LAURIE is beyond me.
HUGH LAURIE is TOTALLY AMAZING in HOUSE and deserves every award given out for his catagory.
Let's right last year's wrong.
This year vote for HUGH LAURIE!!

WE LOVE YOU, HUGH!!

ashlee Wed, Dec 19, 2007 at 04:25 PM EST

Charles Wed, Dec 19, 2007 at 09:29 AM EST

No "Once" is a joke - the Golden Globes, which specifically has a Best MUSICAL category, would be the perfect platform for this movie.

Alos - no love for Tommy Lee Jones! What about Keri Russell's perf in "Waitress," "Dexter," Kristen Bell in "Veronica Mars," James Gandolfini, Scott Frank's screenplay for "The Lookout," Sarah Polley's direction in "Away From Her" - are you with me, everybody, in thinking that this mysterious Hollywood Foreign Press doesn't even see half the films and TV shows?

Mikael M Wed, Dec 19, 2007 at 05:30 AM EST

Katee Sackhoff - unbelievably compelling in Battelstar Galactica. She must be among the most naturally gifted actors of her generation. Was in about 5 scenes in Bionic Woman & stole the show. She was the only thing about the show that was almost univerally praised.

BSG is almost finished - someone get this chick onto some meaty projects quick smart!

T Tue, Dec 18, 2007 at 11:39 PM EST

I agree with the person who asked what the heck Christopher Meloni has to do to get nommed for a GG or an Emmy (that *one* Emmy nom was definitely not enough!). He is ridiculously good on SVU, year in and year out. But speaking of SVU, here's the real unbelievable sunb: no Mariska?!!? Seriously? She has been *killing* this season, and I only become more impressed every time I watch her. I mean, Patricia Arquette instead?! Is Medium even still on the air..? I'm still in shock from that one. There is something just wrong about that... anyway, much love to Chris and Mariska!!

Gail Tue, Dec 18, 2007 at 03:49 PM EST

No Once???!!!!
How is that possible? What were they thinking? Were they thinking? This is a major crime of omission.

Melody Tue, Dec 18, 2007 at 03:01 PM EST

Nothing from "Waitress"??? There were at least four good nominees for acting, and it should have been up for at least one of the picture awards. Also, what is up with the snubs of Chi McBride and Kristen Chenowith or Swoosie Kurtz from "Pushing Daisies"??? They make the show what it is, and both Anna Friel or Lee Pace do not deserve nods. What on Earth are these people thinking?

drella66 Tue, Dec 18, 2007 at 02:52 PM EST

I thought the Assisination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford was the best movie of the year...and LOST is the best show on TV, period!

No Into The Wild...and the Great Debaters? No Knocked Up, No Waitress...and Hairspray and Across the Universe? If they're going for Hollywood factor, I would rather see Keri Russell there than John Travolta. If they're going for decent films...then they must be crazy.

into the wild deserves way much more than that.

joey Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 06:04 PM EST

knocked up and superbad got screwed over... at least a supporting actor nod or something would be alright, but as far as im concerned, the biggest travesty here was how tommy lee jones wasnt nominated for ANYTHING this year. his performance in no country for old men was great, and i think he got robbed

Diane Conzo Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 10:57 AM EST

This is disgraceful that ROME was not nominated for anything. That mini-series was the BEST by far of any series I have ever watched. The acting, the story, the music, the costumes.

Cath Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 02:47 AM EST

I'm dissappointed that Dexter and Saving Grace didn't get nominated even though their leads got a nod in the best actor/actress category.

Also, where are Vanessa Williams, Kristen Chenoweth and Elizabeth Perkins in the supporting actress category, they've been shunned. That's just sad. :(

GeorgiaYankeesFan Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 12:31 AM EST

Across the Universe bagged a nomination over Once. What a joke!!! You'd figure the Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc would look out for a foreign movie but I guess the HFPA will do anything to get at least one Beatle (or Yoko) to the show.

anonymous Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 12:24 AM EST

I just saw Juno, and while it is cute, and Ellen Page did a wonderful job, Keri Russell should have received a nomination! Her portrayal was natural and unforced. It is a shame that Hollywood so quickly forgets brilliant performances from earlier in the year.

phoebe Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 09:12 PM EST

Damian Lewis. I know not too many people are watching, but watching him is a master class in "less is more." The scripts and cinematography are really compelling.

Becky Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 02:47 PM EST

No love for Into the Wild???

Wha..???

I am just at a loss for words.

L Rey Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 01:19 PM EST

Alright, Once, it's been said. But with Hairspray and ACROSS THE UNIVERSE (which was universally panned) in the best musical...that's unacceptable. I mean hell, even if you put it in drama--The Great...Debaters? Michael Clayton? At least give it some best song love! Fools.

mmp Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 12:09 PM EST

It seems as though award shows always snub the shows on broadcast tv with the lower nielsen ratings. No love for the great new comedic shows on the CW, Aliens in America and Reaper. Aliens in America I guess deserves more for writing at the emmys, but the acting on Reaper (I forget the name of the guy who plays the devil) is great and deserves some award noms.

Ken A. Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 11:36 AM EST

I agree that Keri Russell should have been nominated for "Waitress"; but the biggest shock for me was the snub of "Into the Wild"...for my money, it's still the best and most moving film I've seen so far this year. What a travesty not to even nominate the film, actor, supp.actor, supp.actress, or director. Have totally lost respect for HFPA.

matt Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 09:27 AM EST

What about The Office?

Christy Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 01:11 AM EST

thats right, what the F**K, no nomination for NICOLE KIDMAN for Margot at the wedding??? That was the most uninhibited and freeing performance of the year. I wish they would recognize such a rare performance in a time where actress won't that those kind of risks and Nicole Kidman does.

Christy Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 01:11 AM EST

john Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 12:57 AM EST

Ok, so the Golden Compass is not doing so well at the box office, that doesn't change the fact that Nicole Kidman did a great performance, she was the most interesting characterin the movie, and was because of how she managed to bring depth and darkness to it. But even worse is her absence for Best Actress for margot at the wedding. she was simply amazing.
it takes balls to play a character that is so unlikeable and still give a hell of a performance, that was truely something special that hopefully the oscars wont over look.

Corvella Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 10:28 PM EST

why isn't James Spader nominated? wtf people! are u mad???? Boston Legal is a laugh-riot fest with Spader and Shatner, which btw... compliment each other fabulously! Get real and WAKE up!

TJ Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 08:47 PM EST

Vanessa Williams' snub for Ugly Betty is particularly galling. TV has not seen a better, more vicious villainess in years. Seems to me that Hollywood is intent on elevating the young, pretty, blonde, actresses (Katherine Heigl, Jamie Pressley?!?!) over veterans like Williams who are delivering the real quality work.

Emmett Grady Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 08:34 PM EST

Where is the lovin for McLovin? Christopher Mintz Plasse should have been nominated for best supporting actor in Superbad. Knocked Up also deserves to be in there. It will probably be nominated for a stupid reason so that they can have two movies about unplanned pregnancy for the Oscars. Tommy Lee Jones was great in both of his films.

Javier Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 02:21 PM EST

I think Knocked Up should have been up for best picture comedy and Heigl, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann for acting awards. Where's the love for comedies? As fun as Hairspray was there's no way it's better than Knocked Up. Also overlooked: Javier Bardem, Tommy Lee Jones (twice)

Elizabeth Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 02:18 PM EST

I was utterly and quite surprised that "Into the Wild" was snubbed by the Golden Globes. But then again, look what the Golden Globe members consists of...

To David Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 11:49 AM EST

You are upset that Marion Cotillard was nominated for Musical/Comedy -- to answer your question, yes I'm sure it is because her character sings. That makes it a musical in HFPA eyes. And her chances of winning the Globe are much increased from this category, so I'm guessing she's delighted.

Evan Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 11:27 AM EST

I also think that The Golden Compass got jipped. It got amazing reviews. If Kidman wasn't nominated for Compass, she should be nominated for Margot at the Wedding. That is the funniest Indie comedy. And Jen Garner got rippped off too. She deserved a Best Supporting Actress nod for Juno. God, whats wrong with the HFPA!

Evan Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 11:22 AM EST

John Cusack was RIPPED OFF BIG TIME!! He scored pretty good reviews for Grace is Gone and they give that nomination to Daniel Day-Lewis? He had his momnet of fame for My Left Foot. Cusack needs an Oscar and a Golden Globe. He is the BEST!!!!!

Megan Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 10:54 AM EST

What about Gone Baby Gone? That movie was amazing.

Ellen Pompeo deserved a nom more than Sally field this time around she should have been included in the SEVEN nominations there. SEVEN???? common thats a joke.

Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson even Sara Ramirez deserve it much much more than Katherine Heigl ever does. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN???

echo Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 04:49 AM EST

No nominations for The Shield? Seriously? I'm too ticked off about that to think of any other snubs! Those responsible for the nominations need to be introduced to "The Mackey Method"!

Chris Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 01:36 AM EST

Okay, is it me or has Russell Crowe been blacklisted from receiving any award nominations??? He is in my opinion the best actor around today. Yet, he has not gotten any award nods since "A Beautiful Mind". He has been in two of the best movies this year, yet his name is not even mentioned as a snub??? I am so tired of arrogant, snobby critics, and arrogant actors in the industry dictating what is good, and what is not. Heck, I even think "Transformers" and "Harry Potter" should have been listed as two of the best movies this year over all the boring movies that have been nominated for Golden Globes!!!

IT is an outrage!...La Vie En Rose got jack squat...Unbelievable. If you saw that film, one of the few outstanding films this year (the others No Country for Old Men and Juno), then you know how superb it is. And come on...Atonement? Seriously? Haven't we seen this movie before in some slight variation on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre? I would think that the English Patient would have kept wet the Golden Globes appetite for British melodrama for at least another ten more years. Keira Knightly is all jawbone and eyebrow by the way. If she gets Oscar nominated and Marion Cotillard doesn't, then we'll know how worthless these awards are.

David Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 11:18 PM EST

Well, it's worse than a snub: Marion Cotillard nominated for Best Actress in a COMEDY OR MUSICAL?? For 'LA VIE EN ROSE'?? Are they insane, or just tragically simple-minded? Does harrowing drama about a singer automatically become a Musical when it includes the singer's songs? Apparently if you are the HFPA, it does. (unless, of course, they consider the film a Comedy....? see "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind") This year's supreme idiotic miscarriage-of-justice... and there are always a few. Yeesh, what a joke.

Christina Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 09:43 PM EST

It seems that snubbing shows like Friday Night Lights, The Shield, Battlestar Galactica, and The Wire is to be expected from these "award shows." I was at least expecting a nom for Kyle Chandler, possibly Connie Britton. How silly of me. Also, no Ugly Betty? What? This season has been even better, and no disrespect to America Ferrera, but there have been far better and hilarious performances (Vanessa Williams, Michael Urie, Becki Newton). Dexter should've been nominated for Best Drama. And where were the Judd Apatow films? I really can't make much judgement for the films because most don't even come around here, which just sucks.

Ellipsian Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 09:04 PM EST

I was so upset in the snubbing of "Once" that I completely forgot my TV: No "Battlestar Galactica", "Friday Night Lights", nor Chi McBride nor Kristen Chenoweth?? All are relevatory in their own rights. For shame!

ggirl Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 07:23 PM EST

DON CHEADLE...... Talk to Me What the heck??????

Randy Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 06:35 PM EST

Why is that quality TV series' that realistically deal with adolescent issues tent to get ignored until it's too late? There was MY SO-CALLED LIFE in the 80s, FREAKS AND GEEKS in the 90s, and now FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.

FNL is one of the best written and acted on televison - period! The Globes should have given it some of the recognition it deserves. It will be a true shame to see it fade away.

Suzi Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:30 PM EST

...forgot - Dexter also should have been nominated - not the horrendous wreck that is Californication. Still so disappointed about FNL. Guess the HFP is blind. Knocked Up, Rescue Dawn/Christian Bale, The Lookout, Keri Russel and Andy Griffith more glaring ommissions from the nominations. Probably won't watch this year - hope the Oscars do a better job.

Martin Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:14 PM EST

"The Office" was brilliant last season; I've never seen something so outlandish ring so true. Each character is perfect -- just when you think you might not like one of them, they turn around and charm you with a bit of tenderness (Dwight and Michael are the best at this). The writing is sharp and there isn't a wink link in the cast. If you haven't seen the show, sit down for 2 or 3 episodes and it will suck you in. INSANE that it wasn't nominated...

Suzi Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 04:51 PM EST

What were they thinking? It's great that so many cable series were recognized but what about Lost, Heroes and Friday Night Lights? All three of these are better than Grey's Anatomy and House. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton were both excellent and should have received acting nominations as well.

Stephen Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 03:20 PM EST

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that INTO THE WILD was not nominated for Best Picture because it IS THE BEST PICTURE! Wow, I am at a loss for words. The Golden Globe peeps really screwed up.

Derik Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 03:15 PM EST

Once again, all of the ladies are groaning about katie heigl. And they say that gay men are catty...

Diane Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 03:05 PM EST

WHERE IS INTO THE WILD?!? Emile Hirch deserved a nodd for "best actor", I can't believe "Into the Wild" was snubbed for best actor, director and motion picture. It's such a shame. I'm sad to not see Abbie Cornish for "best supporting actress", she was so good in Elizabeth: The Golden Age or how about "best actress" for "Candy"???? Though I am happy to see that "Atonement" was well recognized and that Amy Adams got a nodd for Enchanted.

SVU junkie Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 02:20 PM EST

How many years does Christopher Miloni have to give superb performances on SVU before he's nominated (and wins) and emmy or golden globe?

Yea, let em give all the awards to washed up movie stars like Sally Field. Ugh.. I suppose "THEY LIKE HER.... THEY REEEELY LIKE HER!!!"
Puke.

nunya Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 02:07 PM EST

the HFPA can vote for films that haven't come out yet ('charlie wilson's war' -- come on y'all know tom hanks is always kinda amazing in pretty much every role, and 'the great debaters', 'there will be blood' - hello daniel day-lewis!!) b/c they get screeners/ DVDs of these films.

hannah rieu Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 02:00 PM EST

I can't believe that once again there are no nominations for Battlestar Galactica. The show is the best written and best acted on television, yet it's snubbed because it's science fiction. And seriously, what is all the hubbub about Katherine Heigl? I do not see any acting worthy of the attention she has been getting, not to mention the nominiations! She must've hired the right people, or has the Julia Roberts factor on people or something. It's not like she's ever acted a day in her life either.

Heather Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 01:53 PM EST

While I'm thrilled that The Tudors snagged two nominations, I'm very peeved that both Natalie Dormer and Sam Neil were both snubbed. Rhys Meyers is a good actor, however, I thought that Dormer and Neil gave the show's best performances.

P Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 01:31 PM EST

The Namesake well acted? Kal Penn needs more experience in drama. I thought the best part of that movie was the parents.

Jackie Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:59 PM EST

Sorry - I have to disagree with Dan. Season 3 of Lost was just as good as Seasons 1 and 2. Heck, I even liked the episodes with Kate & Sawyer in a cage!

lacey Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:59 PM EST

Laura Linney for the Savages!!!!

natalie Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:25 PM EST

i was honestly appalled that 1) there was no nod to brothers & sisters, and 2) there was no nod to matthew rhys. and *katherine heigl*?! what is UP with that?

Dan Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:23 PM EST

People you are all idiots. Yes there were some snubs mainly Once and Tommy Lee Jones, but will you get over lost. The show had a down year and is not even close to the best show on TV. These awards should be about innovation and superb filmmaking not about what you guys think is good because the movies and TV a lot of you guys love is the same regurtitated crap I have seen for years.

sara Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:21 PM EST

what about The Namesake? the most beautiful and best acted movie of the year...

Jeff Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:09 PM EST

How could they ignore the season of LOST?? I know it didn't start out very strong, and people complained about it, but by the end of the season, it had become VERY clear that the producers of this show DO have a plan, and it keeps getting better. EVERYBODY talked about that season finale!! How could it have been snubbed for Grey's?? AND of course, Keri Russell should have been recognized.

Katy Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:05 PM EST

How many times do people have to shout "The Wire" before it gets its due?! Inexcusable.

Jag Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 11:52 AM EST

No BSG, NO FNL, NO LOST!!!!

All three of these shows have won PEABODY'S !!!!(the MOST PRESTIGOUS TELEVISION AWARD AVAILABLE)..yet they cant get nominated for the globes or emmys??

Seriously...what do these judges watch??

Greys over LOST???? R U FREAKIN KIDDING ME!!!
I'm so not watching the awards this year...but if ellen pompoe EVER gets NOMINATED over the ENTIRE cast of bsg, fnl or lost....IM DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JSqrd Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 11:49 AM EST

JOHN KRASINSKI!! His facial expressions alone are worthy of a Globe!

One Good Thing Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 11:08 AM EST

At least they recognized Julie Christie. She is maybe about 35 years older than me, but I would still marry her in a heartbeat. Just watching her image on the screen in AWAY FROM HER made me almost cry (and not even during sad parts). She is a vision!

Meg Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 11:01 AM EST

The complete snub of "Into The Wild," is not just a disservice to the film, but to both the Hollywood Foreign Press and the Golden Globes. Hollywood is such a contradiction. While the movie industry claims to thrive on talent and risk-taking, it fails to applaude films who actually utilize both qualities...like "Into The Wild." To say Emile Hirsch was undeserving of a Best Actor nomination is outrageous, as it is to say Hal Holbrook was undeserving of a Best Supporting Actor nomination. I really take this snub personally, because the story of "Into The Wild" is a film that becomes personal to everyone who has the priviledge of seeing it. I'm outraged and, quite frankly, disgusted that because Sean Penn doesn't kiss up to the beauracracy of the industry, his entire film, its talent, as well as his own, is robbed.

I hope the Golden Globes don't even air. The Oscars are the only awards that matter, anyway. Hopefully they will get it right.

kingoffhej Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 10:43 AM EST

Felicity Huffman is one of the best female acrtresses out there, her performance in "Something's Coming" which is the last episode aired of Desperate Housewives was outlandish!

Jamie Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 09:50 AM EST

Wheres the love for Jennifer Jason Leigh? she was wonderful in Margot? I guess she didn't spend the money to put on an expensive dinner viewing for the members.

Willowsam Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 09:50 AM EST

Nicole Kidman and Sarah Polley

Molly Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 09:40 AM EST

Where was 3:10 to Yuma???? Christian Bale and Russell Crowe were both fantastic in that brilliant film. Very disappointed to see it slip through the cracks this year.

SydMoBlake Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 09:36 AM EST

It is not much mentioned here, but my fav for TV comedy was 'Chuck'. That show is absolutely hilarious! I really wanted them to get a nom. 'Scrubs' and 'Heroes' were also snubbed. I guess the only show I will be rooting for is 'House'. The rest of the noms are a joke. Maybe better luck next year.

Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 09:29 AM EST

seriously no Once?? That movie was beautiful and the songs heartbreaking...okay I seriously might not watch this year. I don't care about any of the categories (besides 30 rock and tina fey and steve carell!)

Day-Day-DC Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 09:24 AM EST

No Vannessa Williams..between the Emmy's, Grammies and Golden Globes they been cheating V out of wins and nominations for yearssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!

Save the best for last? I guess when she dies she'll get recognized!

Marie Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 09:08 AM EST

My only real surprise came when I saw that Knocked Up was not in the comedy category! Having performed twice onstage in Sweeney and being a Burton/Depp fan from Day 1, I want the Demon Barber to take home the prize, but Judd Apatow deserved some love for what may be the best rom com since Harry Met Sally.

allison Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 08:04 AM EST

wheres the love for the office?
jim? pam? DWIGHT?? COME ONE! Steve Carrell is funny, but he wouldnt be half as funny without his supporting characters. And what about Waitress. I watched it last night and I looooved it!!!

Nathalie Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 07:46 AM EST

Alicja Bachleda for Trade

erik Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 07:28 AM EST

seriously, hairspray for best musical?
where is once? and where was "falling slowly" for best song? and dont even get me started on not nominating andy griffith for best supporting actor for waitress!!!!!

and i know that im going out on a limb here, but ratatouille and simpsons werent even good animated movies.....for me, tmnt was the best animated movie of the year

Ryan Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 06:23 AM EST

Where was the love for
Kristin Chenoweth
Jean Smart
Jane Krakowski
Dana Delany
Marcia Cross

sTivo Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 06:07 AM EST

I don't think I've ever been so upset at the GG noms in past years. I always saw them as a test go for the Oscars and Emmys, but usually found it enjoyable. Now, with this awkward list, I am very scared at what the Oscar noms are going to do for us. Can't believe that Keri Russell, "Once," "Journeyman," Josh Brolin, "Lost," Tommy Lee Jones, and Kristen Chenoweth. Happy to see John Travolta nominated, however; he won't win, but it's nice to see a nod.
Overall, this is a big joke. How can anyone take this seriously when they can't even decided on how many slots they are going to have in each category? C'mon 7 slots for best drama, but only 5 for best comedy/musical? I don't think I'll ever get it, but at least now I don't think I'll ever care again.

katie Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:59 AM EST

The Critic's Choice Award nominee list was much more interesting and spot on than this years Golden Globes. No love for ANY of the Grey's Anatomy cast besides Heigl? Nothing for the Golden Compass? Boooo.

Mel Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:14 AM EST

Knocked Up definetely shocked me. Deserved a Best Comedy nom for sure and Seth Rogen deserves a nod for an amazing comedic performance.

Melanie Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:00 AM EST

...where was knocked up???
If not for best comedy then at least a nom for Paul Rudd or Seth Rogan? Or the lady who played Paul Rudd's wife?
...that's just wrong lol

NA Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 04:52 AM EST

Where was Once for best musical or comedy?
It was one of the best musicals I have seen in the past five years!

Nix Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 03:01 AM EST

Does anyone want to claim a snub for a show or person they don't personally like? At 300 comments, mostly "My show/actor wasn't recognized for the pure genius it is!" (which I'll accept for FNL or BSG, iffy about Lost, no about Heroes -- my favorite show, but it's not quality -- and, btw, Tiffany, saying Jensen Ackles shows why he won a Daytime Emmy, isn't complimenting him) I'll start: stunned about Tommy Lee Jones.

Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 02:45 AM EST

My favorite movies this year: Waitress, Once, and Into the
Wild. All overlooked. Emile Hirsch and keri Russell were robbed. As for tv, I stay home Fridays now to watch Friday Night Lights, by far the most cincematically interesting and best acted show on tv. Each actor deserves a nod, but for Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton to not be nominated is just wrong.

Allie Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 01:56 AM EST

Dominic Monaghan for Lost
Chandra Wilson for Grey's Anatomy instead of Katherine Heigl.

Frankly Lost took too long to get into it's groove last season and deserved a pass. I don't understand what everyone sees in Elizabeth Mitchell; she doesn't wow me at all.

The Simpsons Movie was a disappointment.

Californication isn't very good; I don't see the appeal.

The Tudors is very good, despite the historical inaccuracies.

Christina Applegate for Samantha Who? Really?

Colleen Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 01:39 AM EST

Izzie from Grey's over Juliette from LOST? Are we watching tv on the same planet??? Izzie is barely watchable at this point. I feel like the Golden Globes like her because she is an outspoken, well-known name. Shame on them.

Adam Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 01:34 AM EST

I'm most upset about How I Met Your Mother not getting any nominations, mostly because I want it to get some publicity.

Rudy Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 01:14 AM EST

No songs from Once? I mean none? How is that possible? I assumed the Oscars would screw over this movie, but the Golden Globes. I'm flabbergasted.

bene Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:47 AM EST

i would like to have seen "the lookout" nominated for something. it had a great performance by joseph gordon levitt.

RBlues Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:32 AM EST

Very disappointed that there was no love for Friday Night Lights! Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler, at the very lest, should have been acknowledged--they are fabulous!

Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:25 AM EST

It's already been said many times, but The Wire!!!!
Also, in the film arena, Once deserved some nominations.

michael S. Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 12:03 AM EST

I agree Into the Wild got snubbed. Sean Penn, Hal Holbrook, and Emile Hirsch were tremendous. Also Tommy Lee Jones got robbed, not once but twice for In the Valley of Elah and No Country. He is a most subtle actor who can do a lot with a gesture, his voice, seeing his neck pulsate. I thought Before the Devil Knows You're Dead was marvelous for its bravura acting. Don't feel that Jodie Foster should have been nominated. She was far better in the two films she won Oscars for. Once was a little film that was genuine. Why do films like Charlie Wilson's War with Hanks get nominated? Or Paul Thomas ANderson's film "Let There Be Blood?" Most of the viewing audience for these films won't see them until January or February. I'm looking forward to seeing "The Diving Bell and The Butterfly," but that won't be coming to where I am until late January. I'm happy that Amy Adams was nominated, but it seems like Tom Hanks, Julia, Cate Blanchett always get nominated.

Kelly Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 11:48 PM EST

WTF nominations
-The Tudors? Seriously, if the GGs were to nominate a Showtime drama, it should have been Dexter

Disappointments
-Multiple noms for Denzel. I thought he was just phoning it in for American Gangster.

Snubs
TV
-Lost - no longer a "cool" show
-Elizabeth Mitchell
-Michael Emerson
-Desperate Housewives
-Marcia Cross
-No Heroes was a good call by the GGs
-No CSI - It had a good year

Movies
-Persepolis
-No Christian Bale
-No nominations for Knocked Up or Superbad. Two of the funniest and best comedies of the year. I wonder if Katherine Heigl's comments about the movie hurt her chances in Best Comedy actress.

I also wonder if some of the nominees won't show up if the writers' strike isn't settled, especially the TV ones and some film ones.

KB Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 11:18 PM EST

Where is Robert De Niro's supporting actor nod in Stardust? It was cheesy but sooooo delicious, and quite honestly, I've seen much worse. I would've also liked to have seen a nod in Jim Sturgess's or Evan Rachel Wood's direction for Across The Universe. Those kids were fabulous!

zach Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 11:09 PM EST

I can't believe it. How could anyone in their right mind exclude Keri Russell. Waitress managed to break all the stereotypes about sappy pregnancy movies far more than Knocked Up. And where is Margot at the Wedding. Although it had its flaws (Jack Black) I believe that Nicole Kidman gave one of her best performances ever. Instead of seeing her as a glamazon or period character we actually see what makes her tick as an actress. And critics may disagree with me but I believe that Angel-A should have been a foreign film nomination. The cinematography was stunning.

Dan Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 11:04 PM EST

Why is it that all of Paul Thomas Andersons movies are praised and get nominations for the movie but he gets none. When will the industry recognize that this guy is the most talented person in hollywood.

rachel Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 11:03 PM EST

So happy that they nominated Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, but what about Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski? They are comedy gold every time they're on the screen.

Alex Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 10:40 PM EST

1. Where is LOST in this list?
2. No one saw Elizabeth Mitchell acting?
3. And Michel Emerson?
This industry is rotten. Obviously it's all about who pays the most to get a nomination, it's nothing about creativity and good TV. So sad!

Brian Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 10:27 PM EST

Absolutely, without a doubt, THE WIRE! What will it take for anyone to see the sheer genius of this visual novel. Four seasons and running, the absolute best writing, acting, and sheer storytelling on television. I like the pulitzer idea. Ridiculous, just ridiculous. I have boycotted all film and television award shows. They can keep their ratings low and their commercials won't sell me anything. Really, a boycott is truly called for on this one.

Ainsley Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 10:27 PM EST

THE OFFICE was snubbed for no best comedy! It is the funniest show on TV. And some love for Rainn Wilson would be great!

Rosalia Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 10:25 PM EST

I love Grey's but I definitely think that Katherine Heigl doesn't deserve her nod. Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo were snubbed and I think it's unfair. Ellen's best episode was Wishin and a Hopin and P Demps was the ferry episode arc. Izzie character isn't even the best supporting one Chandra Wilson has her beat. So I'm not going to lie I'm disappointed with this years tv nods.

Laura Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 10:01 PM EST

Into the Wild deserved BEST Director for SEAN PENN, and BEST Actor for EMILE HIRSH, BEST PICTURE, BEST SOUNDTRACK: LOST should have been nominated for TV Drama and Matthew Fox for best actor. I am very disappointed BUT ALL OF YOU READING THIS CAN GO SO INTO THE WILD BEFORE IT IS GONE.

Raymond Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 09:42 PM EST

While Julie Christie rocked in "Away From Her", the actor who played her husband (Gordon Pinsent) was AMAZING. She's getting all the attention, being Julie Christie and all, but the rest of the cast really matched her in excellence.

On another point, why do we still stratify awards by gender? What possible reason could be given for not having James MacAvoy and Keira Knightly compete against each other. As Cate Blanchett and John Travolta (in different ways) have displayed, gender is not a constant in what is needed to pull off a role (such in the way Angelina Jolie need not be biracial to play Mariane Pearl). Not to say MacAvoy and Knightly could have played each other roles, and I'm not saying it's sexist to do so, but it seems so silly, especially when there's no apparant reason.

Alex Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 09:16 PM EST

No nominations at all for BSG!!!!
Bear Mccreary is innovative and fresh, no nod to him! shame
James Callis for supporting actor! he is great playing a sympathetic bad guy.
Edward James Olmos-when he is on screen he commands the scene.
No nods to the Office? a fun and fresh TV show.

Kat95 Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:53 PM EST

I'm beginning to wonder if the folks who hand out the nominations actually watch the movies, or do they just read the paper and decide from that. I can't believe they picked Grey's over Lost. And what about Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones, Christian Bale? Hello?

Jason Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:48 PM EST

What a joke! Friday Night Lights is the best written, directed, and acted show on TV. They obviously have never even seen the show. Oh, and no Lost? How I met your Mother? Complete joke.

FNL Rocks Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:44 PM EST

Why is it when I read these comments that so many people here seem to have the same opinion? And why are the HFPA so out of it this year, especially with the tv noms? If there had been just one FNL nomination, I would have grumbled, but accepted it, but NONE?!? Very lame.

Chelsea D. Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:43 PM EST

Also, I'm really bummed that "Lost" didn't get a nom for Best Drama..that season finale was probably one of the best episodes of televison I'VE EVER SEEN. The flash-forward twist was genius. Why no nomination for Best Actor for Matthew Fox? His acting was mesmerizing..

will Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:42 PM EST

The snub of Once an Hal Halbrook

Samantha Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:42 PM EST

No Chi McBride or Kristin Chenoweth for Supporting Actor and Actress? RIP OFF! Not watching, even if I am hoping Pushing Daisies gets the nod.

Chelsea D. Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:40 PM EST

Words cannot even describe my displeasure in hearing that "The Office" was not nominated for Best Comedy, nor were John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, or Rainn Wilson for acting. It's simply ridiculous to nominate the unfunny "Pushing Daisies" or the predictable "Californication" over the well-written and consistently funny "Office"..what a joke :( Did voters see the episode where Jim and Pam went to Dwight's Bed and Breakfast and Dwight read them Harry Potter? That was comedy gold!

Danny Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:39 PM EST

So, "Desperate Housewives" wins Best Comedy Series for its subpar second season, and now doesn't even receive a nomination? No.
Also, no nomination for "Weeds"? I know some people had problems with it this season, but I thought it was their best so far. Glad MLP got a nomination--she should win, she struck comedic gold this season.
"The Office" being left off is ridiculous. Loved "Heroes" the first season but this mini second season was abysmal. Speaking of, why is "Grey's Anatomy" still nominated for anything? That show tanked an entire season ago, and should be off the list to make way for the constantly-engaging "Dexter." Let's hope the SAG awards and Emmy's get things right...but I doubt it.

crystal Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:30 PM EST

no kristin chenoweth? seriously?!? in the "bitter sweets" episode (i think), when cheno grabbed a carving knife and charged a shadow stranger entering the pie hole with the line "don't make me cut a b*tch" i literally laughed so loud i scared my dog! i have never rewatched a scene so often without experiencing any sort of diminishing returns of hilarity. she is amazing in the role of olive. kristin finally found her niche.

with a nom for best comedy series this year, i can only hope that ABC will pick up this quirky show for another season and ms. chenoweth will be rewarded for her comic genius at future awards shows. come on emmy's, don't let me down! don't let me down!

Vicki Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 07:56 PM EST

I am so happy that "Mad Men" was nominated--a brilliant, wonderful, great show!! They should have nominated many of the actors and actresses in "Tell Me You Love Me"--especially Jane Alexander. The winner for Best Actress in any film MUST be:
MARION COTILLARD!! Her perfomance was AMAZING!!!

Angela Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 07:35 PM EST

ONCE!!!

How did Once get looked over completely? Especially the music!

namar Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 07:33 PM EST

Snubbed List:
1) LOST
2) THE WIRE
3) Elizabeth Mitchell
4) Michael Emerson

hmm... screw the golden globes

Teri Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 07:28 PM EST

I can't believe "Life" wasn't nominated -- as a series and for acting. As for movies, I think Josh Brolin was robbed by not garnering a nomination for "No Country for Old Men."

kwn Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 07:08 PM EST

Explain how Charlie Wilson's War is up for comedy/musical. Come On!! Nominated just b/c of Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Once should have been nominated instead. And no Josh Brolin or Tommy Lee Jones? On the TV side, where were Chi McBride and Kristin Chenoweth? Also, Ray Wise for Reaper? HFP should stop just going after big name stars. Lose so much credibility when they don't even bother to nominate films that have already won best picture awards from other organizations.

Diana Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 07:01 PM EST

Snubbed all my favorites: "Darjeeling Limited" & "Knocked Up." Christian Bale for "I'm Not There" or "3:10 to Yuma". TV: Denis Leary for "Rescue Me"

dee Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:59 PM EST

Griffith, Hines, and Shelly gave the award caliber performances in Waitress. The most outcry, however, should come from excluding Shelly for best screenplay?!? Another glaring snub is Don Cheadle!!! Another actress who gave award caliber supporting performances this year was Taraji P. Henson!!! Russell Crowe should have been nominated too.

Tom Person Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:50 PM EST

Golden Globes mean nothing to film and whoi really cares if they win awards or not. As long as we think there good it doesn't matter.

garv Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:34 PM EST

I can't believe that Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova weren't nominated multiple times in the Best Song category for their lovely, heartfelt tunes from ONCE. Hopefully, the Academy will make up for this snub when Oscar nominations are released.

Charles Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:28 PM EST

it is CRIMINAL that Battlestar Galactica got snubbed AGAIN!!! What the hell are those people playing at?

Sarah Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:25 PM EST

This was Richard Gere's year. He should have been nominated for either "The Hoax" or "The Hunting Party" and "The Hunting Party" itself should have been nominated for something. It was my favorite movie of the year.

Miranada Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:25 PM EST

After seeing the nominees...I think my fav show THE HILLS has a chance to be nominated!!!

BEING SARCASTIC(LOL)

Like about 99% of the people that ACTUALLY WATCH TV:..
WHERE THE HELL IS

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
LOST
FNL
THE OFFICE

suzanne Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:23 PM EST

And Ray Wise for Reaper should totally be a Supporting Actor nom.

suzanne Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:20 PM EST

I can't believe there was no:
1)Russel Crowe for either 3:10 to Yuma or American Gangster
2)More love for the Office!!
3)Lost

potsi Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:08 PM EST

lost didnt have any episodes for this season thats why it didnt get any nods.... housewives got no nods just because it is "cool" to be original in awards...also they must have belived that they gave them to many nods for the second season...thus the jaw-dropping fouth season gets none...i guess that awards nowadays dont look at what is good, but what they owe and to whom the owe what...btw californication isnt better from housewives and the office..

potsi Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:08 PM EST

Henry Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:08 PM EST

There's love for Pushing Daisies, but the HFP somehow left off Chi McBride and Kristen Chenowith for the supporting categories? What's up with that? Where's Friday Night Lights? Or Kevin McKidd for Journeyman? Or, dare I say, Ray Wise for Reaper? That would have been so out-of-left-field.

DanOregon Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 06:02 PM EST

Nothing for Friday Night Lights?
Hal Holbrook for Into the Wild?
Gone Baby Gone?
Chenowith?

Corran Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:56 PM EST

Seth Rogan, Paul Rudd, Katherine Heigl, and a screenplay all for Knocked Up. Are these people nuts? Also I know the critics thought it wasn't 24's best year, but surely they cant be blind to Peter MacNicol's amazing performance as sly Tom Lennox? He was amazing! Peter Krause is far superior an actor than Donald Sutherland for his work in Dirty Sexy Money. No Sopranos? Really now...

Joy Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:48 PM EST

Hello,

The Office totally got snubbed. I know they won last year but seriously. Only Steve Carell got a nom, and I mean Steve is awesome but he has been nominated in every award show since like '05 when The Office started. Where is the love for John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson?! Oh, and Friday Night Lights and SVU totally got snubbed too. What is up with the universe?

E Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:40 PM EST

Most egregious oversight: No comedy nom for "The Office," aside from Steve Carell's actor nod. The Foreign Press should count the number of times they laughed out loud during "Californication" (lame title) and compare it to "The Office." I mean, c'mon: Dwight? Jim? Mose?! Jenna Fischer's acting this year was outstanding: funny and heartbreaking is a tough line to walk, and she did it remarkably.
I do agree with everyone that K. Chenowith deserved the nod over Anna Friel; her performance doesn't elicit so much as a giggle from me, but Kristen is campy and over-the-top.
If I take a step back and look at all the TV nominees, though, I have to wonder: Do these people watch TV? I mean, really. I hardly think they got a thing right. No "Lost," no "Heroes" -- heck, even "24" deserved a nod over "Grey's" 3rd season. Um, ferry crash, anyone?

Dan R% Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:40 PM EST

As a big supporter of LOST, I have to correct anyone who says it's the best show on TV. This is a fallacy. THE WIRE is consistently the best show on any network anywhere...can't wait for season 5!

Joc Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:38 PM EST

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!!

Melissa Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:38 PM EST

Knocked Up was the funniest dang thing I've seen all year. How could it NOT be nominated? The only conlcusion I can think of is...the voting committee's sense of humor sucks something awful.

EAP Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:33 PM EST

1. LOST
2. Elizabeth Mitchell
3. Michel Emerson
4. Henry Ian Cusick
5. Emile Hirsch
6. Dexter
7. Josh Brolin
8. Kristin Chenoweth
9. Chi McBride
10. Connie Britton
11. Kyle Chandler
12. Sean Penn
13. Dana Delaney
14. Keri Russell
15. Denis Leary

William Hurt's Girl Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:31 PM EST

I am truly saddened that Emile Hirsch and Sean Penn got overlooked for INTO THE WILD...easily the most affecting film I have seen a few years. Emile Hirsch was fantastic...I remember thinking "They should just mail him an Oscar and save him the trip"...it was also nice to see William Hurt again.

Craig Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:29 PM EST

How could Once not get a best song nomination? And Lost, clearly the best show on TV.

Clayton Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:27 PM EST

Once and Lost....gosh.

Seattle Ellen Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:27 PM EST

Where was Russell Crowe for best supporting actor in American Gangster?
Two of the nominees in this category were in pictures that were in comedy categories for other nominations - what is up with that?!

critic Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:19 PM EST

What? No Soprano's but Greys? No James Gandolfini? No Ugly Betty? No Laura Linney from Savages but Jodie Foster? No Vanessa Williams?

And Chi McBride - I knew it was a long shot but he is GREAT.

Sadie Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:10 PM EST

Disappointed not to see Lost or The Office in there. As for The Great Debators, Oprah is a producer. Having not seen the film (like most of American), I cannot attest to its content.

mags Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:10 PM EST

Where's the love for Flight of the Conchords or their awesome supporting actors, Rhys Darby and Kristen Schaal?

mike Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:02 PM EST

NICOLE KIDMAN for MARGOT AT THE WEDDING where are you?

Anyone else???

tpw Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 05:01 PM EST

I guess I'm alone in thinking that Scott Porter wheelchair bound performance in 'Friday Night Lights' is amazing. I think he's going to be big in hollywood... but I could be wrong.

TheOtherGrayson Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:45 PM EST

Every time awards season rolls around I get annoyed at the awarders and impassioned on behalf of those who should be awarded but I'm finally reaching a zen place where I realize that when the voters eventually get to the afterlife, they'll be sitting through endless showings of Californication and season 12 of Grey's Anatomy. Karma, B*tch.

Frankly, they wait too long to recognize shows that deserve it. Friday Night Lights and BSG, if they ever receive noms, will get them when the shows are past their prime. And shows like the West Wing, Housewives, and Grey's get nods far past the days they still deserve them.

Ames Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:37 PM EST

I wouldn't call not being nominated a "snub." Rather, it's validation that those in power in entertainment have no real taste or sense even when it comes to talent and quality in their own industry.

Kai- Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:36 PM EST

With all the love for cable show this year....where is Battlestar Galactica?!? Easily the best show on TV!

Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:29 PM EST

Laura Linney for The Savages

Ryan Luse Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:27 PM EST

I am pleased that Across the Universe got a little love... but Lost, Sopranos, Once and Judd Apatow's epic Knocked Up & Superbad were snubbed. Tisk tisk.

MojoMom Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:27 PM EST

Snubbed: any movie I have actually seen! Okay, I have seen Hairspray and Michael Clayton, and loved them both. But I hate the fact that so many of the nominated films haven't even been released yet. I can only see so many movies on Christmas break!

Jay Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:24 PM EST

I am glad Denzel Washington was nominated again. Great!!!

Doolittle Jones Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:24 PM EST

The entire cast and crew of "Battlestar Galactica". Even its most extraneous extras surpass those actually nominated. But, hey -- what the heck do the folks handing out Peabodys know?

Nat X Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:21 PM EST

The Golden Globes are terrible. I guess Lost just isn't "cool" anymore. And "Battlestar Galactica" is just too "sci-fi." BSG is the best show on tv. Heaven forbid a show should give you something to think about.

Leslie Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:16 PM EST

Hell, this is the Hollywood FOREIGN Press. The Tudors, Atonement, Ratatouille, Extras, and any actor not from America (Cate Blanchett, Hugh Laurie) will win. Bet on that.

RachelSun Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:15 PM EST

Pretty tired of whites always jumping all over people for stating the lack of black actors. Just as you have the right to state who you think deserves a nomination then so do others, she is right what about Ruby Dee or Don Cheadle. There really aren't that many actors of color. Latinos, Asians have not had the roles to even be considered. It does not have to be Denzel every year. People see color when you are of color because it is thrown in your face every da$n day of the year.
That is my opinion and I have right to state like everyone else.

Rose Tyler Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:11 PM EST

First I'd like to say that I'm happy with the love for Mad Men. That show is brilliant. I also liked seeing nominations for The Tudors, Extras and Pushing Daisies. Now that being said how about some love for Life? Or why were America Ferrera and Mary Louise Parker the only nominations for their shows?
In movies, all the love for Juno is great but couldn't they have spared some for Waitress? Also Rescue Dawn and In the Wild deserved some attention too. Maybe the voters don't like survival movies?

mcbridefan Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:05 PM EST

Overlooked:
Casey Affleck lead in "Gone Baby Gone"
Ben Affleck for directing and screenplay adaptation for "Gone Baby Gone"

Leslie Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 04:03 PM EST

I TOTALLY agree with the Keri Russell snub. WRONG! She was wonderful. Other snubs: Vanessa (L. Yeah!) Williams, Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies), LOST (although I agree on Damages and Mad Men, but Greys? Come on... the 2007 LOST totally redeemed itself), The Office crew, and Knocked Up.

Also, I totally hate how the globes throw the supporting actors race with the mini-series. The mini-series person ALWAYS wins. The Globes are becoming as big a joke as the Grammys.

Ian Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:59 PM EST

What about Judd Apatow. Knocked Up? Superbad? Two of the best reviewed comedies of the year get no love. I'll choose either of those over Hairspray anyday.

Annette Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:51 PM EST

I can't believe Christian Bale is yet again unacknowledged for an award. Did none of these hacks see 3:10 to Yuma or Rescue Dawn? What is the problem? Oh yeah, they are too busy kissing golden boy's George Clooney's behind.

How could Charlie Wilson's War or The Great Debaters be nominated for anything? Who's seen these movies? I think the foreign press just sees recognizable names and votes for them. It's disgusting, I won't be watching this farce of an award show.

Tiffany Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:50 PM EST

Supernatural is another great show that gets ignored. I don't know if its the network or they think that only teenagers watch it but that is a fantastic show. Jensen Ackles acting reminds you why he has a daytime emmy.

Berto Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:46 PM EST

Nothing for THE SHIELD! Walton Goggins performance this past season. Amazing. Intense.

Joanna Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:43 PM EST

what about imelda staunton as dolores umbridge? ever see anyone hold their own so well with maggie smith, michael gambon, alan rickman and all? she was an object of ridicule and terror at the same time. amazing work.

nunya Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:37 PM EST

as long as i can look forward to a HUGH LAURIE ACCEPTANCE SPEECH (!!!), i'm good. but the office shoulda been nominated for best comedy.

Sally Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:37 PM EST

The power of the O: nobody's seen the movie, it just premiered last night, and already she's got a nomination for best picture. Her first produced picture I might add.

LuLu Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:33 PM EST

TV nods...Why soooo many left out? any why does Edie Falco get nominated again...and again....and again? The show is over, people! And new shows like the charming & hilarious Big Bang Theory get zip? How I Met Your Mother is another one. Katherine Heigl is great, but so are many of her castmates! No Heroes cast? No Lost? I could go on and on.

Ellipsian Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:33 PM EST

Not even ONCE for "Once"?! Seriously?! No "Best Song"?! No "Foreign Language Picture"?! No "Actor" or "Actress in a Musical"?! No "Best Musical Picture"?! ARE YA KIDDING ME?!

B. Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:32 PM EST

The following people/projects were robbed-
Kristin Chenowith for Pushing Daisies
Christian Bale for Rescue Dawn
Russell Crowe for American Gangster
Steve Zahn for Rescue Dawn
Once-Musical
every song from Once was robbed of a nomination
How I met your mother-best comedy

Verity Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:25 PM EST

Christian Bale for his work in Rescue Dawn or 3:10 to Yuma. Who does this man need to sleep with in order to get a nomination!? Because he sure as h*** deserves one already!

J Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:18 PM EST

Yeah, I agree that season 3 of Grey's didn't deserve a nomination but KH even less so. I don't get it. How did they come up with her?!

Ben B. Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:17 PM EST

Wow I'm shocked Lost wasn't nominated for anything. It's one of the rare shows that still is amazing after it's 3rd season. So shocked. And Heroes being snubbed? It too was one of the best shows of the year. And Desperate Housewives for best comedy? it's been amazing for the last 2 seasons (the last episode was jaw-dropping) And big Bang theory and How I met your mother also being snubbed? as for movies, Imelda Staunton for Harry potter 5 should have been nominated. She was fantastic, and so was the movie. It's annoying how mega-blockbusters that are really good are almost always snubbed ( the exception is LOTR)

arryana Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:17 PM EST

no worries, kevin! i feel your pain about bad days at work...had one of those myself. anyway, to all those mentioning 'once' being snubbed, i'm right there with ya!

Lolita Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:08 PM EST

BTW, last season of Grey's Anatomy does NOT deserve a nomination, and much less K. Heigl - so Overrated!!!

Melissa Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:07 PM EST

I could have sworn that "Falling Slowly" from Once was written for the movie. No best song nomination? Or ANYTHING from Once?
Glad to see the pushing daisies love, though.

Lolita Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:07 PM EST

I just had to write my disgust at the two best shows on television not getting their due nominations... Lost and The Office!!! Who are these people?? Ridiculous!!!!!!!

J Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:06 PM EST

I feel as though Sandra Oh or Chandra Wilson are SO much more deserving of the Best Supporting Actress nod over Katherine Higel. KH is a fine actress and all, but I just don't feel as though she is anything particuarly special or noteworthy compared to the other two...

Kevin Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 03:06 PM EST

Sorry Arryana, bad day at work so I took it out on someone I don't even know. For shame. May the loving glow of internet civility keep you warm tonight. (and I agree with you on the Into the Wild front...ROBBED!)

Jodi Goulart Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:59 PM EST

Ben Affleck for director. His Gone Baby Gone was one of this year's best.

peach Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:59 PM EST

Hairspray over Enchanted?!? What were they smoking?
And snubbing Nicole Kidman for Margot at the Wedding was ridiculous. And the revitalized Desperate Housewives should have been nominated. And where was the love for Dirty Sexy Money?
Oldrockchick, I totally agree about Katherine freakin' Heigl. She's so over rated.

pilara Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:54 PM EST

Best Picture: Zodiac
Best Director: David Fincher,Zodiac
Best Actor: Michael Shannon,Bug
Best Actress: Ashley Judd,Bug
(Ashley Judd probably give the best and most overlooked performance this year by any actor or actrees.)

cartersauce Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:48 PM EST

how on earth did "once" get overlooked? not only was it the best musical of the year, it was easily the best movie. "across the universe" over "once"? seriously? does the HFPA really know so little about decent filmmaking that they are going to pick that drivel over the beautifully understated masterpiece that is "once"? bleh, these nominations remind me why I never watch this awards show to begin with. shame on you nominators. seriously!

arryana Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:48 PM EST

to kevin - i was just trying to provide some info in case you hadn't seen the movie, not trying to be obnoxious, but if you want me to be, i'll have to go with good luck trying to keep warm with such thin skin...happy holidays! ;-)

jen Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:45 PM EST

I can't believe they left off......
Keri Russell, the Waitress
Connie Britton, Friday Night Lights
Elizabeth Mitchel, Lost
Kyle Chandler, Friday Night Lights
Chandra Wilson, Grey's
and Emile Hirsch, Into The Wild.

Kalifornication nods? Yuck!

Steph Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:44 PM EST

I am particularly bummed about Ugly Betty...no best series? Did the nominators even watch the show? It's brilliant!! No other acting nods? The supporting cast (not just Vanessa Williams either - Michael Urie, Becki Newton, Ana Ortiz, even Judith Light) make the entire show!

R2D2 Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:40 PM EST

To Melissa: Ha - you're totally right! Though America's Next Top Model *might* beat out The Hills in terms of production value, screenplay, and overall ridiculousness.

Mozz Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:38 PM EST

i'm sorry but Charlie Wilson's War and the Great Debaters should not be on that list. But most importantly, the list looks bought more than earned, should someone not be investigating how much money the Weinsteins paid to get their film a nomination. and in that case, how many of the nominations were paid for by a studion?

Kevin Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:38 PM EST

To Arryana, sheesh, thanks for the unneccessary attitude...it's very festive of you. I realize that the film is in Farsi, that wasn't my complaint. It's that it isn't a very good movie and doesn't deserve the nomination where as The Orphanage does. Happy Holidays...may your obnoxiousness keep you warm at night.

Annie Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:37 PM EST

Well, I'll relist what everyone else has listed here, mostly because they're true feats of ROBBERY!

Keri Russell, The Office, Knocked Up, Lost, Kristin Chenoweth, and Friday Night Lights.

Seriously... who are these people who are voting? John Travolta was an embarrassment to the otherwise fantastic Hairspray.

Melissa Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:37 PM EST

I totally agree with the bsg, fnl comment below me...

I wont be suprised if the globes and emmys start nominating THE HILLS soon...because all the care about is choosing the shows with the most hype or ratings...

Deb Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:35 PM EST

Into the Wild was robbed in all of the major categories! It deserved to be a best pic nominee along with noms for Emile Hirsch, Sean Penn, and Hal Holbrook. It was one of the best films of the year. Oh well, hopefully the Oscars will set things straight.

lucas Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:33 PM EST

Seriously, where was Tommy Lee Jones or 'Once'? And of course, the always overlooked 'Battlestar Gallactica'?

Leni Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:33 PM EST

Russell Crowe and Josh Brolin for American Gangster. Russell Crowe, Peter Fonda, Ben Foster and Christian Bale for 3:10 to Yuma. Seems like they are going for the most out there, navel gazing, self-indulgent ...ah...stuff...they can find. Good news, I save 3 hours by not watching the show.

Marie Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:31 PM EST

How Kristin Chenoweth didn't get a nod for Pushing Daisies is beyond me. She's hands down the best thing about that show! Oh, and The Office not getting nominated for best comedy series is just wrong on so many levels. Especially with such a weak season of Entourage.

V.M.L. Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 02:30 PM EST

RATATOUILLE deserves more nominations than a best animated feature nod. So f
