About those 'Brothers & Sisters' bridesmaid dresses..

Bs_l Yes, I addressed it in my Brothers & Sisters TV Watch, but Slezak we feel this is an important enough question to ask again here on PopWatch: Are brown bridesmaids dresses (pictured) ever a good idea when the groomsmen are wearing black tuxes? Discuss!

And while we're at it: Was the "Brothers & Sisters wedding event" all you'd dreamed of? Which TV shows have produced the best—and worst—nuptials?

The colors blend well together. When choosing wedding colors it should be based on what the bride and groom like and the look they are going for. I am planning a wedding and the colors are brown and pink. The bridemaids are wearing a brown taffeta dress and the guys will definitely be wearing black tuxedos.

i love the dresses and the colors...esp. the one Rebecca was wearing...and the necklace...anyone know the brand of Rebecca's necklace? i really lOve lovE Love it.

The bridesmaid dresses are by THREAD and they can be ordered in different colors, materials and approx 16 different styles. I had my bridesmaids order the dress they liked the best in the color I chose. I was very excited to see them on the show. The designers were also featured on Style channel "20 wedding do's and don'ts"

Robin Sat, Dec 8, 2007 at 11:23 AM EST

I hear you all on the color but does anyone know who designed the bridesmaid dresses? They are lovely

Quinn Wed, Dec 5, 2007 at 12:39 PM EST

I simply adore this show, and the wedding was beautiful and everything I needed.

For the best wedding, I have to say the killing spree (or lack there of really) on "Dynasty" when Amanda married Prince Michael. I'm surprised NO ONE has said that since it is one of the most iconic weddings in television history...not to mention that show was so awesome, even if I wasnt born when it first started airing :-D

Karen Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 09:34 PM EST

My problem was not with the dresses. It was those flowers! What WAS that??!!!

AND best TV wedding had to be Chandler and Monica on Friends.

ellen Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 04:21 PM EST

no!! black and brown should never be paired together unless its a situation in which it naturally occurs

heelarryous Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 04:11 PM EST

I'm color blind. I thought they were a shade of red! LOL
But, yes, like wearing white after Labor Day, one can indeed mix brown and black, that is a gay old husband's tale!

Janina Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 03:57 PM EST

I had a brief panic attack re: brown dresses and black tuxes last yr when planning my wedding, and thankfully it all turned out well. My bridesmaids wore brown with a sandy/taupe accent sash, and the guys wore black tuxes with "cappuccino" ties/vests. In the end, it looked fine and definitely elegant!

Jelana Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 03:56 PM EST

Ok, so if a brown dress does not go with a black tux, what color tux should accompany a brown dress? Some brown dresses are lovely, but I really hate all non-black tuxes. Are you suggesting a ban on brown evening wear?

Babs Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 03:28 PM EST

Didn't see it, don't watch it, blah blah blah. But the biggest fashion "don't" I see in the photo is a strapless dress with visible tan lines. Eeyuck.

Scott Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 02:47 PM EST

The vows were dreadful, but brown and black together is no longer a faux pas.

Annie Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 02:45 PM EST

I just hated that Nora was wearing a black dress to walk Kitty down the aisle, knowing that the bridesmaids were in brown. That made me strangely nuts. Get in the color scheme, Nora. I loved the blue that Rebecca hated from the episode before.

Sweet Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 01:54 PM EST

I loved the dresses and the designs but I thought the flowers didn't go. That little purplish think looked like wine grapes.. And I believe the brothers weren't groomsmen.

BilliamE Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 12:43 PM EST

One can wear brown slacks with a black belt and shoes right? I personally love the combo...

Dave Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 12:21 PM EST

So brown and black are the new hot color combo? Does this mean we'll be seeing brown shoes paired up with black suits? Yeah, I don't think so. Maybe that combo is in for weddings and women's wear (in general), but I don't see brown and black combos as the new "in" style for men.

Kristi Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 12:10 PM EST

Well actually, from my understanding, there were not actually any groomsmen. Robert just had his kids standing up for him so it worked out perfect. And even if not, i don't mind it, i think they were really pretty, but i'm not sure i liked all the different styles, sort of distracting. Oh and i do think cream tuxes with brown ties would be best if there were official groomsmen etc.

fredric Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 11:32 AM EST

I wonder what Michael Kors would have done. Hmmm.

Char Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 11:18 AM EST

I loved the dresses. Didnt even think twice about the color. I just liked that everyone was in a different design. Now that is something that I wouldnt think of normal. But Brothers & Sisters pulled it off. Great Job !

Z-Dubs Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 11:01 AM EST

Brown is in this year. I went to 3 weddings in 8 days in October, and each wedding featured brown bridesmaids' dresses. They don't look as horrible with black tuxedos as one would think.

Ben Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 10:59 AM EST

I liked the dresses, and as it seemed like the girls didn't walk down the aisle with the boys, what's the big? Brown is very becoming!

amily2323 Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 10:20 AM EST

it is nice

browndress Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 10:14 AM EST

I wore a brown bridesmaid dress a couple of years ago. It was a Fall themed wedding. Brown is big right now (brown and pink, brown and baby blue, brown and light green) and you can wear it with black; all the traditional rules are out the window these days.

Jen Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 10:10 AM EST

I have gone through the experience of wearing a chocolate brown bridesmaid dress and having groomsmen wear black tuxes. The dresses weren't even ugly, the reason why I hated that whole event was because my best friend probably married the most arrogant and self-righteous person I've ever met...

Lena Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 10:06 AM EST

I don't think brown is a nice color for a wedding and looks terrible in pictures.

kel Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 08:55 AM EST

favorite wedding/bridesmaid dresses? the patterned dress rachel and phoebe wear for monica's wedding on 'friends.' loved those! also loved the dresses during charlotte's second wedding on SATC- minus sjp's milkmaid hairdo. but loved charlotte's dress!

J Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 08:37 AM EST

I was just in my brother's wedding a few weeks ago, and we had dark brown bridesmaid dresses. They were really pretty. The accent color in the flowers was a blue, almost teal color. And the guys wore black tuxes with brown vests (with a small pattern on it) and ties. It actually looked really nice, which I wasn't expecting since I'm not a big fan of mixing black and brown.

Elizabeth Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 08:20 AM EST

The dress that Cheyenne had to wear for Barbara Jean's wedding on "Reba" and the one that Rachel had to wear for her friend's wedding on "Friends" - those are the two that immediately come to mind. I'm still not sold on the black tux/brown dress combo. My parents had brown tuxedos in their wedding - in 1972.

Katya Tue, Dec 4, 2007 at 12:42 AM EST

I thought the dresses were very cute - especially with each of them having their own style. I didn't even think about the black and brown thing...

Jenny Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 10:55 PM EST

I just got back from several weeks in Paris and EVERYONE was wearing brown and black. I'd always thought that was a faux pas, but I guess not!

Silv Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 10:34 PM EST

Guess one needs to be openminded, but I don't care for the combination. Maybe if it was a lighter, cafe-au-lait type of color, it wouldn't be so bad with black tuxes. But of all the colors in the rainbow, brown?? Seriously? I guess it fits Kitty's personality.

Amanda Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 08:38 PM EST

The dresses are by Thread. All of their bridesmaid dresses are really cute and very reasonable.

Kerry Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 08:13 PM EST

I thought brown and black together were the big new colour scheme?

ali Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 08:08 PM EST

Does anybody know who designed the dresses that were on the show?

Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 08:08 PM EST

I would never have my bridesmaids wear brown if the groomsmen were going to be in black. That said, I think brown is a great wedding color, especially for the fall!

snoggie Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 08:00 PM EST

the girl at the far right has AWFUL posture!

Colin Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 08:00 PM EST

Brown and black is definitely hot right now. I've been to three weddings in the last year that featured this combo, including my own.

Jill Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 07:23 PM EST

These dresses look okay. I like how they're different dresses but the same colors. The best TV wedding was Rebecca marrying Robin Colcord on "Cheers". They didn't actually get married but it was still hilarious.

ktbuffy Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 07:18 PM EST

I'm getting married in the spring, and we're having the bridesmaid pick out their own brown dresses -- and yes, the groomsmen will be in black tuxedos. Teamed up with our accent colors of purple and pale yellow, I'm hoping it all goes well together! It's a little earthy, perhaps, and less formal than black -- which is what we're going for. I didn't see the episode of "Brothers & Sisters", but it looks great with the flowers I can see!

Kelly Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 07:15 PM EST

I recently had a pink and brown wedding and just could not bring myself to have the girls wear brown dresses when standing beside men in black tuxes - to me, it is just against every fashion principle I have. I didn't mind the dresses themselves, I just don't like the black/brown combo. If the men were wearing nice classy tailored brown suits I would be all for it!

Jackie Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 06:59 PM EST

With the right color scheme, they can be very elegant and understated. My cousin and his wife had their bridesmaid's wearing a similar shade of brown satin-y dresses, but with a sort of golden tan accent color rather than the white shown here.

Brad Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 06:57 PM EST

All planning for the wedding should be according to what the bride and groom want.

daisyj Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 06:53 PM EST

Well, they're definitely better than black. Yeah, I know, modern world, wear them again, whatever. All I have to say is, you get a bunch of women dressed in black standing around an altar, and "wedding" isn't the first thing that comes to mind.

Those dresses aren't that bad, though the one with the line down the front is a bit unfortunate.

Yodlee Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 06:38 PM EST

I think Rachel Griffith always looks great no matter what she wears, but the color scheme is just silly. Brown with white piping? They even discussed the dress color in the previous episode. I guess bridesmaids are never supposed to look good.
