1. JOURNEYMAN - This is a brilliant show and it deserves a bigger audience. Probably the best new show this year.

2. LIFE - I was late getting into this and am pleased to see a lot of other fans of it here. I don't usually watch police dramas (I'm more of a science-fiction geek) but the conspiracy angle on this keeps me coming back for more.

3. PRISON BREAK - Why don't people seem to like this anymore? The third season a brilliant return to form after the poor second season. I can't wait to find out if Michael gets out of Sona!

Jen Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 04:44 PM EST

Life! Pushing Daisies!

AgirlNamedChuck Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 12:20 PM EST

The reason why you see Life listed so often is because the fans over at Television Without Pity (TWoP) are telling other fan members to bomb this list. It's skewered, obviously.

Anyway, nothing can touch the beautiful, whimsical and hysterical PUSHING DAISIES. It is by the best show out there. May be the best networked TV has ever put out.

1. PUSHING DAISIES!!!!
2. Carpoolers
3. Dirty Sexy Money

Rose Tyler Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 09:39 AM EST

The man I know will help me through the writers strike, Charlie Rose. His low key show never fails to inform or entertain.

Van Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 08:56 AM EST

After a dissapointing season, this year has launched great shows. My love for these three shows is similar to when Freaks and Geeks was launched.

1. Life - Excellent police drama with a great main character (and the awesome Damian Lewis is rocking the part) and, world of wonders! a sympathetic and strong woman in Dani Reese.

2. Pushing Daisies - There are no words to describe this show. Just happiness on crack!

3. Chuck - Showing that Josh Schwartz is not a one trick pony.

EW, show some love for Life!

Charles Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 04:01 AM EST

My new fave is Journeyman and its refreshingly thoughtful take on time travel. Great acting, compelling storytelling, Kevin McKidd and Moon Bloodgood---what's not to like?

RC Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 01:53 AM EST

I heard that "LIFE" is getting an axe??? I hope it's not true cuz the show is great and Sarah Shahi is fantastic!

Dana Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 01:46 AM EST

My #1 Must List TV show is Journeyman. It's the only show I watch live and I've saved all the eps on my DVR. Also like Life and Pushing Daisies.

dce Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 01:08 AM EST

1. Life - please give this great show a boost
2. Chuck - it is light and goofy but has a great deal of heart to it - it is nice to see siblings have a warm, loyal bond
3. Supernatural - cute boys, muscle car and mullet rock - this is what you shoud be watching on Thursdays

Elizabeth Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 12:21 AM EST

1. Life. I love this show. The main characters are damaged and struggling with their own demons -- it makes them real. Life became, halfway through the pilot episode, my first new appointment TV show of the season.

2. Chuck. This became my second new appointment show of the season. Bring your funny bone and your suspension of disbelief, though.

3. Television Without Pity (TWoP). This is one of my favourite websites on which to hang out. I can talk on the forums with fellow viewers about what is good or bad with our favourite shows (or favourite shows to snark upon). http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/

Enjoy! :)

Life-Best new show on tv
Pushing Daisies
The Office
Heroes

Claudia Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 09:56 PM EST

Georgianna, The Duchess of Devonshire by Amanda Foreman. They are filming a movie based on this biography with Keira Knightly and Ralph Fiennes right now. Scandal, menage a trois, politics and gambling. It's all there.
Damian Lewis on Life. The man is unpredictable, sweet and scary and gives Hugh Laurie a run for near perfect American accent.

Supernatural. Two hot guys chasing demons. What more you need to know?

Life on NBC is my #1 must see TV show.

WHM Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 09:21 PM EST

Top Film: Into the Wild
Top TV Show: Journeyman
Top Book: A Free Life (by Ha Jin)

Diana Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 08:30 PM EST

1. Journeyman
2. Life
3. Men In Trees

Shirley Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 08:22 PM EST

My top three for must sees are: Life, Chuck and The Closer. I tape all three and then re-watch the episodes to try to catch the stuff I missed the first time around.

Josh Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 07:40 PM EST

Bee Movie surprisingly good. I didn't think it would have much of a plot from the promo but it evolved very well. Plus I love Patrick Warburton and Seinfeld

sirona7 Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 06:40 PM EST

Life, I love it, and wish that it could be secure for this season and next. Absorbing, provacative drama with characters I want to know and understand and mysteries I want solved for the sake of justice. It's been a very long time since I was this invested in a TV program.

Michael Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 06:10 PM EST

Life. Yes, it really is that good!

Valhalla Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 05:26 PM EST

1. Life -- EW said "intelligent fun" and that sums it up. Smart, character-driven and funny. Plus it's got Damian Lewis. And Sarah Shahi.
2. Journeyman -- Kevin McKidd is yet another Brit burning up the small screen.
3. A Must-Not: Bionic Woman. The Brit actor exception that proves the rule, I guess.

youknowme Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 04:58 PM EST

1 Heroes...thanks for getting back ON track, dont't get off the track again!
2. Friday Night Lights...ditto
3. Life...man, this show (and Damian Lewis) brign it every week

Liz M. Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 04:49 PM EST

Nancy, I have to agress with you Paolo Nutini's Cd these streets is absolutly amazing! I just saw him live 2 weeks go and it was the most fun i have had at a concert in a long time

Ashley Blade-Martin Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 03:46 PM EST

1) Life with Damien Lewis and Sarah Shahi
2) Life on NBC
3) Life on Wednesday nights! I love it. This is the best new show on TV!

dap Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 03:41 PM EST

I enjoy "Journeyman" and "Life" on NBC, to the point that Journeyman has replaced Heroes as my first-watched show on Mondays. I support the writers but it's disappointing that these new shows may lose some momentum due to the strike.

Annica Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 02:37 PM EST

In no particular order, but all very loved:

- Life
- Chuck
- Pushing Daisies

More charm and variety, less reality-tv = yes, please.

sallyrover Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 02:20 PM EST

Life! Life! Life! Please give this great show some Love! Love! Love! A rare, thoughtful, funny, deep and artful show that deserves lots more attention that it's been getting.
Also, watch "Torchwood" for the Anti-Cruise, John Barrowman as Capt. Jack-it's like the X-Files, with better sex and way more laughs.

M Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 01:00 PM EST

My must-list suggestion is for a website - OfficeTally.com. It is the ultimate resource for fans of The Office. Right now Jennie Tan, the creator of the site, has some really interesting news on the writers' strike and especially how it impacts The Office. She has a great relationship with the cast and crew of the show as well and a number of the cast members and writers look to OfficeTally for insight into what the fans think of the show.

My other suggestion is another website - Givememyremote.com. This site also highlights The Office but talks about a number of other TV shows as well and gives a lot of inside scoop from creators and actors of TV shows. Fans, along with the website's creator (Kathie/GMMR), write reviews of the previous night's TV shows with a lot of great insight and humor. Comments from other TV fans are also very welcome at this site, and it's a nice way to interact with fellow TV fans.

Split Ends Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 12:29 PM EST

Life. A crime drama that isn't a procedural -- you know, one that has interesting characters and more than just crime. Plus, the crimes they do have aren't all gore, autopsies and look-at-me creative deaths. This one is about people. Charlie Crews is a man wronged trying to re-make his life, and his partner Dani Reese is a woman damaged by her job trying to do the same. Add fruit, Adam Arkin, a sexy lawyer and a huge bank account for the hero, blend well and get a recipe for great TV.

serious Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 12:10 PM EST

I Love New York 2
(reality shows dont get much better than this)

Lillian Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 11:59 AM EST

The Unit: love the new intro, Dennis Haysbert is looking so fit and sexy, and the 11/6/07 episode had the most shocking/emotional ending of any episode this season. Clearly, this is the best show on CBS.

Sophronia Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 11:49 AM EST

1) Kevin McKidd in Journeyman is amazing/this time traveling show seems believable, esp. in touching on what such "powers" would do to your current life and relationships
2) Damien Lewis in "Life." I got hooked on this show after 30 seconds of the premiere, as did my quick fingered husband who was getting ready to switch channels to see Dirty Sexy Money. We've never seen DSM, but faithfully wait for Life every Wednesday...the one and only show we watch "live" without timeshifting.

echo Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 11:22 AM EST

1. Life. Damien Lewis is wonderful!
2. Damages. Glen Close & Ted Danson should not to be missed.
3. Madmen. Thank you AMC!

drella66 Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 11:16 AM EST

The Absence Teacher by Tom Perrotta: Similar enough to please fans of Little Children, but not as bleak and more enjoyable to me, a return to his earlier works. The character of Ruth, is so likable, unlike the lead female character in Little Children. The topic is timely and well written.

wildecat Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 10:53 AM EST

Heroes - the Nov. 5 episode has gotten it back on track!

Heroes - the Nov. 5 has gotten it back on track!

Amanda Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 10:51 AM EST

LIFE.. It's the first cop drama that I actually like watching. I will cry if it goes away.

Kasey Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 10:47 AM EST

1. The new Robert Plant/Alison Krauss collaboration. It's FABULOUS.
2. Joss Whedon's letter to the fans about the WGA strike (http://whedonesque.com/comments/14639 in the comments)
3. I second (or hundredth, as the case may be) the suggestion of Life! If there's any justice in the world, this will be the sleeper hit of the season.

Liz Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 10:38 AM EST

1) HEARTS & SCALPLES The plastic surgery show-with-in-a-show on Nip/Tuck. Bradley Cooper was a riot, slong with Jennifer Coolage and Oliver Platt

2)AWAY by Amy Bloom. This woman rights books that break your heart and astonish in the depth that the minor characters come to life off the page

1) CASEY AFFLECK.
His subtle performance in Gone Baby Gone is great, but that doesn't compare to his performance in The Assisination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford. Mesmerizing and just stayed with me for days. (And after being the only descent part of Ocean's 13 this summer he has me asking again, Brad Pitt who?)

Paul Wadehra Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 10:25 AM EST

Samurai: Heaven and Earth, Vol.2.

This is a comic book series that's far better than the usual super hero stuff. It's historical fiction, with great action and a sweet love story. Appeals to people who aren't into comic as well.

GingerCat Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 09:21 AM EST

1. 30 Rock Season One DVD set: comedy gold + Will Arnett in an obscenely short bathrobe = 5-star entertainment!
2. GOSSIP GIRL! A guilty pleasure you don't have to feel guilty about.
3. "Slam" by Nick Hornby. A novel meant for young adults but great for everyone. It's Nick Hornby, after all!

Anna Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 08:54 AM EST

I have to be another person to chime in for "Life". Both my husband and I watch it and love every minute of it. The characters are fantastic and both the long running mystery and the weekly crime stories are compelling.

kasdj Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 08:46 AM EST

person who keeps saying life.. get a LIFE

Carol Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 08:32 AM EST

1) Life-Damian Lewis
2) Life-Sarah Shahi
3) Life-Writing, performances, story

So, who's the person just saying Life under different names. Didn't work for Jericho, won't work for this. Once is enough.

So, who's the person just saying Life under different names. Didn't work for Jericho, won't ork for this. Once is enough.

Pat Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 08:07 AM EST

Life. Life. Life.
This is one amazing program! Brilliant acting and writing, compelling storyline, funny, scary and smart! I expected the usual blah cop show. But after watching the first episode, I was completely hooked. I did an actual double-take and gasped as my mouth dropped open at the quality and intelligence of this show, on actual TV! Wow! Blew me away. Every scene overflows with subtle humor and intrigue and, yes, even Zen! Bravo and a standing ovation to Life.

Elli Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 06:02 AM EST

I nominate...
1. Life
2. Life and
3. Life
because it's the best new show of the season and therefore a definite must! It hasn't been getting any promotion from NBC, so someone else has to spread the word about how clever, entertaining and generally awesome Life is.

BH Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 02:33 AM EST

Generally- Reaper
Specifically- The objects that the devil gives Sam to capture the souls and send them back to hell. I thought the little vaccum was clever until last weeks episode had Patton Oswalt's character stuck in a snowglobe. Also the meat thermometor that was used to get 'The Butcher' was great too.

mags Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 12:05 AM EST

Flight of the Conchords Season One on DVD. Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement will delight you with their gentle deadpan humor and their off-kilter yet musically rich song/video parodies. Plus, the supporting cast (Rhys Darby as hapless manager Murray, Kristen Schaal as stalker-fan Mel, and Arj Barker as self-important pal Dave) is quirky and hilarious.

meadow Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 11:58 PM EST

LIFE!! This is the best new show of the season, and it's being criminally overlooked. Please bring it some exposure!

Jen Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 11:13 PM EST

Another vote for "Life." At first I thought, not another police procedural drama, but this is more than worth watching. The cast is stellar, especially Damian Lewis. His quirky delivery is unique but spot on.

Barbara Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 11:10 PM EST

1. The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos on CBC. It's a must see every night. For my American friends, you can get the free video podcast on itunes or look it up on their youtube channel.
2. Reading EW tv watches every morning for the often hilarious recaps of my fave shows.
3. Captain Awesome on Chuck. Way funnier than the official sidekick, Morgan.

1. U2 "Popmart Live in Mexico City"- the soaring visuals and sound on the DVD release of this 1997 concert give much overdue justice to an album and tour that thematically was about 10 years ahead of its time... guess we've finally caught up!
2. Bloc Party "Flux" - Techno played by humans? with lyrics that actually have some meaning? maybe this band will get their due in 2017!
3. Pearl Jam - "Imagine in Cornice" like a fine Italian wine, this veteran band show how well they have matured on this beautifully filmed concert DVD

Doctor Who season 3 on dvd, because Martha was a great companion, and Captain Jack returned!

Daniel Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 04:04 PM EST

-- J.B. Smoove on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" - he has provided us with more quotable lines than any other TV character so far this season.
-- Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You, by Peter Cameron - it's great if you liked Catcher in the Rye, or if you're 18 and looking at colleges.
-- X-Factor, by Peter David - the best X-Men book out there, and (surprise!) it's not really an X-book at all, 'cept for the fact that the main characters are mutants.

What the Buck (www.youtube.com/whatthebuckshow) is the most engaging, hysterical, insightful, creative, and on-point show on YouTube. Buck's celebrity commentary is quite possibly the best part of my day!

1) The official There Will Be Blood trailer. Just give the Oscar to Daniel Day-Lewis RIGHT NOW.
2) FourFour's AMAZING Top Model recaps. (fourfour.typepad.com) Sorry Slezak. Rich at FourFour has the leg up on you when it comes to recapping Tyra's insanity.
3) Mary J. Blige "Just Fine" video. Okay, scratch that last one. Mary J. is looking enjoyably batsh*t in the so-bad-it's-amazing clip for her new (fine fine fine fine fine fine) single. At one point, the hilariously bad special effects make it look like she's crapping out doves! HA!

nathan Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 03:36 PM EST

Criterion DVDs
With recent releases like Breathless, Under the Volcano and Days of Heaven, Criterion makes the "big" studio DVD releases look quite lame and empty by comparison.

Flight of the Conchords Season 1 on DVD
Ratatouille on DVD - The best film of the year, animated or otherwise.
I'm Not There, the soundtrack.

"My So-Called Life" DVD re-release. It's one of the best television shows ever and it's finally getting a worthy release. Yay!

Macy's holiday commercials featuring their roster of merchandise pushing celebrities - quite amusing. Love to keep an eye out for them.

Broadway Baby Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 02:56 PM EST

In anticipation of the theatrical release of Sweeney Todd I rented and rewatched the stage production with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn- honestly - the best thing ever put on a stage. How anyone can make a cannibalistic pie-maker charming is beyond me but Angela Lansbury did it. Take my advice and rent it...
