A natural disaster strikes Wisteria Lane! Which 'Desperate Housewives' character is gonna die?

Nov 30, 2007, 02:30 PM | by Gretchen Hansen

Categories: Desperate Housewives, Television, Water cooler

Dh_l Hear that? It’s the sound of chimes. The chimes of doom. A twister is scheduled to hit Wisteria Lane this Sunday, in what ABC is touting as Desperate Housewives’ Best. Episode. Of. The. Year. (A euphemism for: Last. Episode. Due. To. The. Strike.) When storm clouds settle over the abnormally sunny suburbia, I can't help but wonder if a major character will kick the bucket. Natural disaster doesn’t always spell character death, but Lynette's Oscar-worthy shriek in last week's preview wasn’t because her beloved pizzeria came tumbling down, I’d bet that much.

So when the dust settles and the gay neighbors' lawn ornament ends up where it belongs (on an island with Jack, Kate, and Sawyer), who do you predict will be lying amidst the rubble? Could it be Tom Scavo (played by Doug Savant, pictured, left)? The entrepreneur has been mysteriously absent for much of this season, perhaps in his quest to care for other illegitimate children. Or create the perfect pizza pie. The guilt trip he laid on his cancer-ridden wife earlier this season left a bad taste in my mouth, but I hope he finds a storm cellar before the twister touch down. Lynette's dealt with enough grief this season. Her cancer. Her mother. Those pesky possums. Could the cyclone be the answer to Gaby's prayers, silencing Victor before she gets the chance to serve him shots of tequila and cyanide?  Or will the shocking twists have nothing to do with tornados? Might Carlos (Ricardo Chavira, right) die in a confrontation with Gaby's betrothed, a violent axe 'mayor'er? Anyone predicting a Mike Delfino drug-overdose? A fatherless baby boy Benjamin? A Susan miscarriage? For whom will the bell toll? (And hey, let’s keep any commentary to predictions only, not the insider scoop. Watching The Perfect Storm isn’t exactly easy when you know how it’s gonna end.)

Hey I just want to know if anyone got that little prayer said on the baseball field. It was really good, and I would like to use it.

I hate to say this but Lynette was screaming because her kids and husband were hiding in the basement of the house that looked like shredded wheat, that was Mrs.McClusky's house...I also happen to know from an accurate source that at the very least two character will die...one who came into the series last season (victor) and one who has been there since the very beggining (Tom) which both of the character that were forsure to die were indeed planned to be main characters...not 3rd teir charcters...as I have said before the tv shows ratings are dropping and they need to step it up a notch...it would make no sense what so ever to kill off 3rd teir characters, that would not help ratings or give alot of new plots to the series...It was also said several times a friend everyone will die and nothing in wisteria lane will ever be the same, now tell me does that sound like to aftermath of the death of a third teir character...no it does not.

If anyone missed it. Victor was stabbed straight through his chest with piece of a white picket fence. Either he is dead or he's an immortal psychopath like Jason Voorhies. Carlos was smacked upside the head with a metalic object. Possibly Victors gun but I am sure that Carlos will recover. Lynettes house looked like Shredded Wheat. That's why she was screaming. Tom and her kids (including step-daughter)were inside hiding. They are going to be fine. According to a spolier site Pat Crawford Brown who plays Ida the ex-alcoholic is a victim but my guess is that Tobias (Toby) her cat will live and Mrs. McClusky will adopt him.

Nevermind my last comment I screwed up some names and wrote a bunch of nonsense.

DH Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 02:03 AM EST

I doubt victor is dead...it just looks to me that victor got hit on the head...besides do know how bad it would look for victor being knoced out beside a dead mayor that he did not like becuase his ex-wife was dating...and they already had problems with the police between Victor and Carlos ( court, murder, plus Carlos already has a record)...so that could definately be a huge thing with the death of the scavo family...tons of tragedy makes for a pleased audience...it is really very predictable...but it can just as easily be misinterprated.

DH Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 01:54 AM EST

I think that Tom will get killed and the Ida person, maybe one of her kids will kick the bucket to...or the whole family, which I personally think is entirely possible...I mean did you see that house afterward there was nothing left...and It does make sense to kill the Scavo family ( though it is a horrible thing)...It does add a series of tragic episodes...hard times...The development of a close bond between Lynette and Mrs.McCluskey...and Lynette just got rid of her cancer a few episodes ago, which cut the course of tragedy short for her family...So maybe one of her kids survive ( if one survives I hope it's the little girl who was hitting the hot water tank with the spoon)but I doubt it...because with a whole family dead it opens so many new opourtunities...Like the addition of a new family and the leaving of Lynette or Lynette having to start a new life and essential a new family...which could cause more neighbourhood fueds, between a new family or a changed Lynette and a boyfriend

Mike Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 01:11 AM EST

The narration said that one of those four would lose a husband (Victor - dead), and they all would lose a friend. My money is on the neighbor with the cat. Lynette's family will be fine....end then I could be totally wrong.

Leslie Mon, Dec 3, 2007 at 12:13 AM EST

Does anyone really think they would kill Tom and all of the children? All of them?!?

Sarah Sun, Dec 2, 2007 at 11:03 PM EST

well who do you think died

Kathy Sun, Dec 2, 2007 at 10:31 PM EST

all I have to say is it was awesome!!!!!! and you def. know one of the characters that died, no waiting.

Antoinette Sun, Dec 2, 2007 at 08:19 PM EST

I know the previews make it look like it is someone close to Lynette. But God can it please be Edie? Her charactor has annoyed me from day one and I was so angry when she was not dead at the start of this season. She has been pathetic since the get go.

Kristin Sun, Dec 2, 2007 at 04:36 PM EST

In the commericials, it's Mrs. McClusky that Lynette says "you can't go out there" to.

lvnvrcd Sun, Dec 2, 2007 at 11:42 AM EST

I think it will be Victor and Edie. I heard Dana Delaney say on Regis & Kelly that her marriage ends with the tornado, which doesn't necessarily mean he'd be dead but you never know.

Bill Sun, Dec 2, 2007 at 06:47 AM EST

Inside Scoop: It's Lynette's mother.
If not, you can take me up in a twister and send me to the land of OZ.

i hope it's victor. can't stand the guy.

and i'm guessing because of lynette's scream...i'm thinking it's someone she's close with....possible tom? mrs. mcklusky? ida greenberg?

oh well..

Angela Sat, Dec 1, 2007 at 06:14 PM EST

I hope it's Tom. I can't stand him.

MsDaisy Sat, Dec 1, 2007 at 05:39 PM EST

I guess it's too much to hope for total annihilation.

RBlues Sat, Dec 1, 2007 at 04:32 PM EST

At this point, I have no idea who is going to die . . . but I'm guessing 3rd tier characters as well (the hype never lives up to expectations, especially on this show). What I am intersted to see is how unrealistically soon the neighorhood will return to it's pristine condition.

I just foun out that it's neither of Lynettes Kids, her husband, her step-daughter or her mother. Victor gets killed off and baseball fanatic Ida Greenberg (Pat Craword Brown). Who ever said third tier actors is right on the money.

Alyson Sat, Dec 1, 2007 at 11:05 AM EST

Just to guess, I'm going to say it's Carlos (though I hope not) and Lynette's mom. It better not be McClusky...I heart Kathryn Joosten in all her roles!

Hellen Sat, Dec 1, 2007 at 10:03 AM EST

I don't think anyone necessarily dies to make Lynnette scream like that. I figure the storm hits while she's at her mothers, returns to her house and finds the entire house is in rubbles and she doesn't know where her family is and she fears they're in the rubble. Then she'll find they've escaped and all will be well. She is a good screamer, though!

kcholt68 Sat, Dec 1, 2007 at 08:07 AM EST

I think it will be Victor and Lynette's mother -- why else would Lynette scream like that? I don't think it will be a regular, like Tom or (please no!) Carlos.

The lady with the screen door problem that everyone keeps calling Mrs. Huber is actually named Ida. Mrs. Huber was murdered by Paul Young. Any of the main men: Carlos, Tom, Mike and Orson, would be good choices because it opens up good storylines for the housewives. For example, Tom dying would open a whole new storyline for Lynnette: her grieving, dating again, dealing with 5 kids biologically (and maybe having to face one or more of Kayla's grandparents who want her), probably her having to go back to work either in advertising where she made a good living or struggling with the restaurant. Edie would be another good choice as she really hasn't been part of the season this year. Only when Marcia Cross was on maternity leave, did the writers give Edie a decent storyline.

Silv Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 10:51 PM EST

Personally, I'm so sick of the commercial with Lynette's scream I'd rather it was her.

SuzieC Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 10:09 PM EST

Assuming Lynette's scream is post death, I'd say it's not Mrs. McClusky. I just saw a promo a few minutes ago and I think that's her walking up behind Lynette while she screams.
I don't even want to think about who's gonna kick it. My predictions always end up wrong.

thaxton Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 09:50 PM EST

One of the dead is Dana Delaney's hot husband. Unfortunately...

John boy Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 08:13 PM EST

The grandma is going to get it.

Jelana Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 08:02 PM EST

I can't imagine how any of Lynette's kids could die -- a child actually dying would destroy the comedic aspect to this show. I still think it's McClusky + the mayor. Maybe one of Lynette's kids gets terribly hurt, but ultimately recovers.

H2 Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 07:46 PM EST

Am I the only one that is already fed up with hearing Lynette's scream? If it isn't at least two of her children then she should be fired for excessive over-acting (but then that should happen anyway).

My guess is that it will only be incidental characters who have served their time. Very unlikely to be a real shock, that just doesn't happen these days - the departure of any lead character always gets announced in the press months before the event gets shown ...

Anyway, I thought this was a two part story so I suspect that we won't know until part 2 gets shown.

Jarett Wieselman Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 06:18 PM EST

My vote is for Victor and third tier character. Just when Victor got interesting (threatening Gaby) too! Not that I want Susan to lose the baby because that would subject viewers to Teri Hatcher "acting" but I also don't want to see her "mothering" in season four. Her scenes with Julie are excruciating enough!

NineDaves Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 05:37 PM EST

i think the scream probably means that her house was just destroyed or something. i just don't think it's because someone is dead. don't get tricked again! http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2007/11/abc-sunday-prom.html

KingLouieXVIII Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 05:14 PM EST

I'm thinking it's Carlos. Ever since he split up with Gaby, his character has just been floating around. I'm pretty sure it will be a male character. But wouldn't it be awesome if one of the main housewives died. That would a truly shocking, original, and creative twist. Alas, I don't think the writers have the balls to go there.

jay Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 05:10 PM EST

I hope it's not Susan's baby. They've done too many miscarriages this season (Tell Me You Love Me, Brothers and Sisters)

Lilac Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 05:10 PM EST

Kill off Mike. He is so boring.Than give Nathan Fillion all his screen time.

Sven Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 04:58 PM EST

If the world were fair, Edie (or whatever Nicolette Sheridan's character's name is) would die. While she is not the only reason I stopped watching it after the first season, she in the top two. She is a horrible actress, and the show would do well to be rid of her.

GeeMoney Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 04:47 PM EST

I wish that it would be Edie, but it'll probably be a non-regular cast member, like one of the gays or Dana Delany or her daughter, Dylan.

jason Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 04:28 PM EST

lynette's mother is gonna get it. mrs. mckluskey (sp?) won't die because marc cherry promised he would never kill here again (he's killed her twice in other shows), that's not inside scoop, she said it on a talk show. but she may blow away.

Stephanie T. Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 04:19 PM EST

Like I said Lynettes unearthly scream probably means that one or two of the characters are related to her (her mother, her kids (probably her kids),Tom, or her step-daughter Kayla who really does not have much of a part in the show anyway.

Ceballos Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 04:18 PM EST

One more thing. Even though it looks like we're headed that way, it would be disappointing if Susan lost her baby from that fall she took down the stairs. Not so much because the character would lose a child, but because that's pretty much exactly how Gabby lost her baby in Season 2.

Christa Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 04:15 PM EST

If Nathan Fillion dies, I'll never watch this show again. (Granted, they only let him have two lines per show. And he has a horrible wardrobe. But, dang, he's pretty.)

Stephanie T. Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 04:14 PM EST

Mrs. Huber?! Huber was murdered in season one and her whacky sister avenged her death by cutting off her finger, and faking her own murder.

GOB Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 04:02 PM EST

My vote is for John, the gardener, to bite the dust. Can't stand the actor, and the character is pretty useless for plot development at this point, but his previous story line makes him a big enough character that it wouldn't seem as insignificant as killing off the mailman, or something. Or, if there's some kind of opportunity for a cross-over episode, I'd appreciate the tornado taking out Ty Pennington over on Extreme Makeover. That would be some good tv.

NineDaves Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 03:59 PM EST

kathryn joostyn, the actress who plays mrs. mccluskey, has been killed off so many shows in the past (scrubs, etc), that she marc cherry put something in her contract saying she wouldn't be killed off. so she's safe. my money is on susan's unborn baby. i think i saw her fall down the stairs in the preview, a la crossroads, the britney spears movie.

Luis PJ Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 03:55 PM EST

When I read it off a Newsite...it sound like if tornado really hit the set...I was fooled but that a good thing?

hannah Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 03:55 PM EST

oh maybe her name was mrs. huber ... i forget her name but it's the one old lady Edie was moaning to Dana Delaney (when she was running for town council) about her ripped screen door. And SORRY for the scoop, I didn't read to the end where it said no spoilers ...

Mandy Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 03:40 PM EST

Hannah- isn't Mrs. Huber the one who is already dead (killed by Paul?)?

My money is on McClusky too, which would be a real bummer.

Erin Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 03:38 PM EST

My money is on Mrs. McClusky. They show a short clip of Lynette trying to keep her from going outside. You can just barely see the edge of her shirt sleeve, but it's her. It would accomplish killing off a slightly beloved and interesting character that no longer really has a storyline, as opposed to offing someone like Mike, Carlos or Tom - who probably all have sizeable fan bases.

Ceballos Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 02:46 PM EST

I actually have no idea who's going to die. As Stephanie T. said, they're all involved in storylines, so it's not easy to predict. And I love it. I LOVE that I don't know what's going to happen.

If I had to guess, I'd lean towards Tom. I mean, SOMETHING has to make Lynette scream in such a primal way as we've seen in the previews. Then again, maybe it'll be the one daughter (not the illegitimate one) that only pops up about twice each season.

As for who I'd like it to be? Well, i said they all have storylines, but that's not exactly true. Edie's character needs to get a life. She's got nothing going on other than trying to mettle in Carlos and Gabby's affair. Not to be cruel, but if this is how they were going to use her this year, they should've left her hanging there in the season premiere. It also woulnd't break my heart to see Mike gone (not gonna happen storyline wise) or Victor (could happen...his character's gotta go eventually)

hannah Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 02:45 PM EST

i read in the enquirer it's victor and mrs. huber .. not mrs. mcclosky(lynette's babysitter) i love how they tout how people are going to die then it's 3rd tier characters ... how bunk

Stephanie T. Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 02:40 PM EST

All of them have story lines right now. As cruel as this may sound, since Lynette's cancer scare is over Cherry might decide to add some more fuel to her miserable fire. The twins Parker and Porter will both die.

Al Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 02:35 PM EST

They tend to knock off ancillary characters and I saw on some tv news/entertainment type show that it is two characters. So I would say the mayor, and the babysitter for Lynette.
Another choice: her mom, or one of the gay guys
