Justin Timberlake's unsung 'SNL' hit

Jt_l I won't lie: When I saw the Saturday Night Live: The Best of '06/'07 DVD on sale at Starbucks a few weeks back, my first thought was, "Must be a short DVD." The best moments from last year's generally weak season had already made the online rounds ad infinitum, and why spend hard-earned cash to own "D--k in a Box" (pictured) when I can see it on NBC.com (link leads to the uncensored, NSFW version) for free whenever I want?

That was before EW's Jason Adams alerted me to the presence of a particular bonus feature on the disc: "Five O'Clock," a dress-rehearsal sketch from Justin Timberlake's episode that got cut from the broadcast. I've made no secret of my appreciation for JT's work, but I still had my doubts — given some of the awful material that made it to the air last season, how funny could a rejected skit be? Well, I finally got around to watching "Five O'Clock" a couple days ago, and I gotta admit, this thing is positively hi-larious.

What's so funny about "Five O'Clock"? Well, Justin plays a toy-store employee who's filled with ineffable joy by the fact that he gets to leave work at 5 p.m. He spends the whole skit spouting nonsensical trash-talking catch phrases in the direction of co-worker Fred Armisen... plus he gets in some pretty solid beatboxing and assorted dance moves... did I mention he's sporting a spectacular, Art Garfunkel-esque 'fro? Okay, maybe you have to see it to understand. But there's the rub — "Five O'Clock" isn't on YouTube, or anywhere else that I could tell, so you just might have to break down and buy that DVD. (Sorry I didn't tell you about this earlier in the week, when there still would've been time to add it to your growing Halloween gift registry.)

So who's jonesing to see "Five O'Clock" after my eloquent testimonial? (Anyone?) Has anyone else discovered an unexpectedly excellent bonus feature on an otherwise lame DVD?

i think after the next time JT's on, they need to just put out a Best of JT on SNL DVD and maybe i'd buy it. I LOVED Hip Hop Kids. Just the name Jo-Jessica alone cracks me up.

yes! I've been looking for the Hip Hop Kids love-it was amaaazing!

most of the gems from last season were hidden and not as well publicized as the Digital Shorts seem to be (though I loooove them too). but you know, they choose, not us.

yea, Hip Hop Kids was the best of JT's.

I actually thought last years SNL was fairly strong, at least when Justin hosted, and again with Jake G. Last year SNL became appointment (or DVR) TV for me. Before I never even cared if it was 11:30 on Saturday night.

I was more disappointed that the stuff I found hilarious (Laser Cats, Andy Pops up in the Scenery, Jake's cold open) weren't anywhere on the DVD.

the hip hop kids skit is out there cause i had it on myspace for a while. so many good one liners from that skit
"yo, on the gettin worse front, i think we got trouble in the form of cave creatures!" & "dancin doesnt cause problems, it sooooolves 'em" "if ever there was a time i wish you could talk k-smoove, it would be now" "yo jo-jessica thats a stalactite. you need to get better in touch with your sedimentary rock formations"

JT was the best part of last season...my favorite was not dick in a box, but the Hip-Hop Kids skit...where they try to dance away from killer cave creatures...i have not been able to find that online anywhere either and i doubt it made the best of dvd

I thought '06/'07 was quite a bit better than the final Tina Fey years. (No offense to Tina -- I love 30 Rock.)

It used to be online somewhere. I didn't think it was funny. It was one of those SNL sketches that just went on too long.

Hilarous sketch. Made me laugh out loud.

i saw it on youtube ... but now it's gone becoz of the rights ... it was funnny he's amazing ... i loved his dancing

Yeah, I bet it'll get online soon. In the meantime, I found this just released video on You Tube that's a parody of Britney's Gimme More and it features Dumbledore. It's called "Dumbledore Gimme More"-not very original but pretty damn funny.
Anyway, heres the link:

I won't buy the dvd, because it'll be on youtube soon enough
