Who's your Entertainer of the Year?

Oct 19, 2007, 06:57 PM | by Michael Slezak

Categories: Water cooler

Wilhelmena_l It's that time of year again when EW's editorial staff brainstorms, debates, and agonizes over who'll make the cut for our year-end "Entertainers of the Year" issue. I'm predicting a death feud between Annie Barrett and me regarding the relative merits of Ireland's Róisín Murphy versus the u-to the-biq-to the-u-i-t-o-u-s Fergie, resulting in a final verdict from our editors declaring "none of the above!"

For my money, I'd (predictably) add Ugly Betty's Vanessa L. Williams to the list — if only for her delivery of my new favorite catchphrase, "follow the breadcrumbs, Gretel!" on last night's episode. But because we care, and also because we like you to do our work for us you guys are some of the most informed, opinionated cats ever to populate a pop-culture message board, we'd like you to join in the deliberations. We'll be selecting the best of your nominations for an online game — and possible inclusion in a future issue of the magazine. So riddle me this: Which three people (or bands, or TV/film ensemble casts) would you put at the top of your list of "Entertainers of the Year" for 2007? And just as important, tell us why.

WHo the f-u-c-k is Robert grint and who gives a s hit!!!

Quit spamming one name thousands of times idiot. I"m pretty sure nobody cares that's why you keep shoving it down our throats.

ANYWAY I VOTE FOR TINA FEY for Entertainer of the Year. Take your pick, her, the cast of 30 Rock or The Office. They are the ONLY reasons I watched TV this year (well except for Lost but they already won in 2005).

Honor these outstanding comedies, some of the funniest to ever grace the small screen.

Conan O'Brien: finally won a well deserved Emmy and had an amazing week in San Francisco.
Steve Carell: that man just gets funnier and funnier.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: the hardest rocking old men and women I've ever seen in my life.

Honestly, after the firestorm they initiated in the record industry, Radiohead deserves to be on the list, at any rate. Perhaps they wouldn't be mainstream entertainers of the year, but they decidedly shaped entertainment for the year with their controversial (and excellent) "free" release of their latest album.

Zach Sun, Nov 25, 2007 at 06:17 PM EST

The cast of Ugly Betty should have, or should eventually, follow in the footsteps of the casts of Friends, Lost, and Grey's Anatomy. The well-formed ensemble brings such joy, priceless humor, and manic energy necessary to maintain the hectic pace of a primetime soap spoof.

Mitch Sun, Nov 25, 2007 at 12:33 PM EST

I think Ryan Gosling should have at least gotten a nod. With standout performances in Fracture and Lars and the Real Girl, he is one of the best actors our generation has to offer.

If there was two people I want to add for 2007, I would choose Ellen Degeneres and Melissa Etheridge. Although Ellen had a good year (hosting the Oscars and her talk show gets better), she still be tops in my book despite with everything she went through in the last month. Melissa Etheridge should also be on the list, because she won Best Song at the Oscars and she has an amazing album The Awakening. Can you say comeback?

I can't believe Fergie wasn't even mentioned. She for me is one of the top entertainers of the year. The other two I think come close are Rihanna and Seth Rogen

Tami Tabone Fri, Nov 23, 2007 at 09:34 PM EST

Here are my pics and why:
1). Dan Radcliffe because he is so very talented and to watch him, the viewer actually believes he IS the character he is portraying. He is very young to have such raw talent and be capable of pulling off such versatility.

2). Dustin Hoffman is remarkable in every role he plays. He makes his characters believable. He was awesome in his most recent role of "Mr. Magorium".

3). I admire Tom Hanks for his diversity and talent to conquer a variety of characters and he can be funny or dramatic. That guy can act!

morisson Fri, Nov 23, 2007 at 04:26 PM EST

1. THE TABLOID MEDIA (for their undying attention to ms spears, ms hilton, ms smith, ms jolie pitt...)
2. GOOD TV PEOPLE AREN'T WATCHING (friday night lights, how i met your mother, brothers and sisters)
3. TIMBALAND (for having his name on hit after hit...)

I see that one can vote for the HP trio as a group for entertainer of the year. The inclusion of Grint and Watson devalues the work that Radcliffe and other tv actors did throughout the entire year and that others did also (like the writers) and singers who tour or do many concerts. That is why some people disagree with people voting for a one trick (minute) pony.

Rupert Grint!

By far, the ones who set how the entertainment industry had been this year are the WRITERS.

The members of the WGA should be tops witout a doubt!

Danni Sun, Nov 18, 2007 at 04:32 PM EST

1. Daniel Radcliffe- so efficent in EVERYTHING he does and SO HOT!
2. Rupert Grint- same as Daniel
3. Emma Watson- she is soo cool and makes everyone else look better lol
PLZ VOTE FOR DAN, EM, AND RUPES!!!! THEY ROCK!!!!

Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 10:54 PM EST

rihanna. or kristen bell, for reviving heroes, because i guess it's too late to get her noticed for veronica mars.

or either neil patrick harris or jason segal

Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 07:49 AM EST

JK Rowling ... she had us reading books, watching movies, discussing sexuality ... she is undoubtedly the Entertainer of the Year.

Justin Timberlake deserves mention ... he was everywhere and everything

Judd Apotow is my third pick. Huge summer flicks.

Let me get this straight! People came here to support Rupert, for fun and because they are fans, and the Dan fans go nuts... and suddenly it's all Rupert fans fault? You're not fooling anyone. Those accusing only Rupert fans are Dan fans in disguise. No one here is upset about the press Dan gets. He deserves it. But we are Rupert fans. We support him. And I certainly don't get what a person's opinion over an interview has to do with talent!!! Just goes to show how rude some people are!!! And stupid... because they completely missed the part where she complimented his acting ability to be likable! Thus entertaing! Hahaha!

boidiva02 Wed, Nov 14, 2007 at 12:29 AM EST

Who in the name of heck is Rupert Grint?

boidiva02 Wed, Nov 14, 2007 at 12:27 AM EST

Katherine Hiegl---07 was her breakout year- she won an Emmy after years and years in the industry and stayed in the headlines thanks to her friendship with TR Knight and her smash hit movie "Knocked Up"...

Sally Field- She won an Emmy for her return to TV and made headlines for an international incident in which she was censored at the Emmys.

Rosie O'Donnell- 2007 was her year. from increasing ratings on "The View", sparking national debate and getting snubbed at the daytime emmys.

.Cast of Heroes re so cool. I love to pick them!!!
.I also think that Deathly Hallow is really good. JKR did a fantastic job!!!
.Can't forget my David Letterman!
.About the young actors of Harry Potter serries! I like them too and I think all these support for them re alright. We can't compare them with experienced actors. Finally, I really like Rupert Grint, Tom Felton and Evanna Lynch

sam Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 10:20 PM EST

Perhaps the EW staff could delete that comment of Rupert's name posted a hundred times? It's irritating to see.I think the HP fans are gone except for the Grint ones and that hundred times over repetition of their idol's name is nauseating. I've been to a few of the HP sites and they are scary. At the moment, it's Daniel Radcliffe who has the most news and it pains the fans of the other cast that their own favorites are overshadowed. I wonder what they'll do for fun when the last movie is released. lol

But to get back to sensible conversation, may I nominate Brangelina, cast of HIgh school musical, and the cast of Heroes? They are the newsmakers of the year.

Sorry for double posting, but I was talking about Rupert Grint...

Anna Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 01:23 PM EST

I think a lot of girls are sick of the typical slick hearthrobs we see everytime we open a glossy or go to see a blockbuster. We want quirkyness and orginality, someone with a personality. I reckon that's why Rupert's fanbase is only growing. He is finally something real amongst the superficial world of stardom. I know he probably won't win this, but it's nice and somehow reassuring to see that people are voting for him.

lééti Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 11:40 AM EST

rupert grint!

jessica Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 04:22 AM EST

Why are some people here badmouthing the HP fans? It's precisely because of posts like the one below mine. The Rupert fans here are running amok in their show of support for Rupe.Notice that the Dan fans and the Emma fans have stopped posting but not them. They think that by posting over and over under different names, even anonymously, they are going to sway the EW staff and give the gong to Rupert.Such delusion is expected when one is fighting for a lost cause. They even had the time to look at every nook and cranny to find bad articles about Dan in their effort to make him look bad.Pathetic. FYI,anonymous Rupert fan, it was Dan and not Richard Griffiths who was nominated as Best stage actor in the first award event of the award season. That should speak for itself. The one you posted wasn't even a bad review. Now,I'm leaving for good before people here get the impression that ALL HP fans are nutty.

I don’t understand why so many people here are biased against the HP actors and their fans.Let’s face the fact----HP things really are the phenomena of this year, admit it or not ,that’s just the truth----the final book ,and the 5th film as well. So it’s natural the actors related to the phenomena got more attention. And I don’t think disparaging the HP actors and their fans can make anyone superior to them. So those who have no interest in HP things ,vote for whomever you want and leave the HP actors and their fans alone OK?

As for the young Rupert Grint, I think all these strong support for him here are not unprovoked. IMO, he really is one of the most talented and skilled young actors of his generation,Of course, his career has just begun,so I don’t expect him to stand head and shoulders above those successful mature great actors such as Jim Carrey or Johnny Depp just now ,but I believe he is a promising young actor,he does have the potential for being a successful mature great actor in the future. Time will tell . Go for it Rupert Grint!

1/ Cast of HOUSE - They's just perfect
2/ BRITNEY SPEARS - Always support her
3/ JK.ROWLING & Cast of HP - Just think this is definitely HP'year! But I love EVANNA LYNCH & RUPERT GRINT for the win!

Day Man Sat, Nov 10, 2007 at 10:45 PM EST

For television:
1. Jon Stewart - "Daily Show"
2. Cast of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"
3. Dennis Leary - "Rescue Me"
4. Cast of "Entourage"

NAMIA Sat, Nov 10, 2007 at 10:04 PM EST

Sorry my dear! I just don't understand==> I'm an idiot "teengirl" ... so you's right Golden==> I just vote xD! the sweetness and showing of affection might be runing through Rupert's blood. Though, he might be exclusive and not show it off to the cameras . He doesn't open up easily and you probably did sit there wondering what you were going to say next. He's a regular guy who's not there to entertain you as a press member, he's there to be an amazing actor .I love that about him . Rupert's just charismatic and funny young man. He has grown from a young kid into a truly developing actor. He has done more than just the Harry Potter films now, nad probably the best thing about Rupert Grint is his sense of realness. You don't look at him and see a big hollywood star, you see a person like you, and I think that makes him a very believable actor and even though you don't know him, you can feel a connection.

thandie Sat, Nov 10, 2007 at 07:51 PM EST

This site has gone to the dogs. When I clicked on the link I thought I would read intelligent explanations of why fans want their idols to be considered. Instead, I find Grint fans flooding this board with such inane comments that would bring shame to any HP fan. If your only reason for nominating him is his comedic talent, then wake up and smell reality. There are hundreds of comedians in Hollywood who acts better than Grint. Jim Carrey is miles ahead on this corner. If it's being shy, JOhnny Depp and many more are experts on being low key celebrities. Just please go back to your Grint forums and do your dirt there.

For my part I nominate the writers of TV and movie screens. Actors may bring a character to life but without the written word to begin with, you still don't have a show. I'm supporting the writers' strike and hope their demands are met soon.

Sat, Nov 10, 2007 at 02:30 PM EST

RUPERT GRINT is a natural comedic actor please consider it!HIs acting isn't forced

Golden Sat, Nov 10, 2007 at 08:53 AM EST

Ok please calm down! Listen to me Rupert fans:
-You love Rupert and you just need to support him. Don't care what people say! You believe that he's cool, you know you love him. That's enough! Just GO...
Here's something for me lol:
-I like Rupert because I think he's really special. He can be quiet and reserved in front of the media but it has nothing to do with personality. Rupert is a quirky and original guy and that’s why I love him and his acting. He is different and from the depths he reaches through his acting I thought it was evident that he is a very smart guy! While the others go on and on over a subjet, he always only said few words that are decisive. Rupert rocks!!!

Okay, that's it. I think the EW staff has just discredited all the HP nominations because of all your petty bickering. YOu're supposed to state your nominations and just go.This is not a Harry POtter site. The Dan fans needn't be sensitive by the heckling of the Grint fans. Their insecurity is not something to be laughed at. The world hardly knows Grint so you shouldn't feel threatened if he has fans. And the Grint fans shouldn't stoop to insulting the other camp either. Just vote and go!

BTW, My nomination goes to all the writers of HOllywood! TV writers and JK Rowling! YOu give a new meaning to the biblical phrase : "In the beginning was the word..."

Fri, Nov 9, 2007 at 04:25 PM EST

My vote is for Rupert Grint, because it is a good actor and has proved to others that this is a kid who despite having all that fame really has not been stopped by wrapping it

Fri, Nov 9, 2007 at 06:47 AM EST

The mean girl-bullies in Radcliffe's department is brazen enough to post anything negative on Rupert. Look at them and their insecurities. No, they cant let the sidekick rule over their lead star! I dont need to post all the bad reviews of Equus here (and I can link plenty) and all the nasty things McFly and their fans had to say about Radcliffe in order to convince anybody against him! Rupert Grint's fans love him for what he is so they are voting for him and most of them, like 90% dont even mention Dan or bring him down!

But on second thought...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip1c6vg5-QM

An eye for an eye!

Shila Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 06:57 PM EST

And Rupert certainly cannot help what he's given. But he can certainly take what he's given and make it work. And that's what he did. He was very funny. People always laugh at him, feel for him, etc. He's a natural talent and while maybe us "teen girls" (rofl) don't know talent, all those critics can't be wrong. That is their job, after all lol

Shila Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 06:56 PM EST

Actually the "how much he has done this year" doesn't apply at all because it's not even about that. It's about how entertained you were by that person. Theoretically, Dan could be considered the entertainer of the year simply by Extras alone which was only a guest spot. As long as they did something to entertain us this year - no matter who we choose - they deserve the nomination. I'm just glad the fans step up and they shouldn't be persuaded by a few childish people who can't stand to see support for Rupert. An ensamble! And that if they look at past winners, a lot of them didn't do a whole heck of a lot.

Juli Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 12:37 PM EST

Rupert! He is very talented!

waterloo sunset Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 10:45 AM EST

Jeez. As a Rupert Grint fan I have to say it's not only the Dan fans acting like nutters in here. Look at you lot go! It's definitely entertaining though. I vote for HP and JK Rowling. I do love Rupert and would love to see an article on him because he is such a sweetie and makes me laugh and I think he's absolutely gorgeous. But maybe being gorgeous isn't a valid reason to *win*...

Oh Yeah sorry for my bad English and grammar! I come from China ==> I'm not enough Eng skills to SHUP SOME IDIOTS UP==> I feel so sorry for it lol

Yeah Rupert's always shy, nervous or overlooked balah... but WE STILL LOVE HIM BY THE WAY HE IS==> What wrong with that ?! Your LOVE is great... then SUPPORT HIM AS HELL ==> I won't try to STOP YOU ! Sorry for my bad English again GENTLEMAN lol

lance Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 04:48 AM EST

lol. That report about the HP cast was soo funny. Guess that puts the sock in their fans' mouths. THe Rupert fans especially (with their childish arguments and bad grammar) must find it intolerable that poor Rupes is trashed by thatjournalist. lol. During the HP promotions, I hardly notice him anyway. seems it is true that there really is nothing much inside that overlooked part of the trio. (maybe that's why he's overlooked. lol)

xinglei Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 02:14 AM EST

*And for Dan' fans :

Rupert is a talent and natural actor and he was actually *gasp* a normal human being! He's not a talkative speaker. Right?! That b**ch interviewer need to shut up and improve her skill ==> Rupert hasn't given any bad review about his personalities .

And stupid Dan'fans need to stop bashing Rupert ==> let's care and support for you love!

1. Beyonce - Her concert tour was unbelievable, she deserves it.

2. Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty) - What a performance this year!

3. Katharine Heigl (Knocked Up) - Carried one of the biggest hits of the summer

4. Celine Dion - wrapped up concert in Las Vegas, and has a new album coming... she's back!

#1 J.DEEP because Jack Sparrow is the most original character I have seen! JD did a fantastic jop in POC series. I alaways think that he deserve an Oscar with this role! Go my Johnny!

#2 JK.ROWLING The woman has changed my life! This year is really HP' Year. DH is a magical book!

#3 HPCast but I love to say RUPERT GRINT . He's really a very special young actor. He make I believe that Ron Weasley is alive. I had met Rupert in LA Premiere and he amazed me so much because of his great personalities. He's so lovely with his fans. He like my classmates! Can't wait his role in HBP!

well,I really think Daniel Radcliffe is the most talented actor that I have ever seen before. He has already acted in many films, and we can see his hard work.So of course he is good enough to get this award. Why is HP(I mean the films)so nice and wonderful ?of course the director is very important, but Daniel also put his heart and energy into it.Well anyway I just think Daniel Radcliffe is the most suitable person for this award.

Zac Efron...definite BREAKOUT STAR OF THE YEAR.

The cast of "The Sopranos" ... Kick ass actors

Rosie O'Donnell...miss you on The View

Michael Urie and Becky Newton...Ultimate Scene Stealers

"Mad Men".... Sophisticated and addictive series, needs more support from media

i think its sad that people are still fuming over people voting for Rupert. There are no set rules here! So how are we mean? How are we wrong? some people need to stop!! Rupert fans cant possibly be mean if they're just here to vote for him and the ones who "hate" him are the ones throwing a pitchy fit and accusing of us things and such! Go Rupert Grint!

Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 06:55 PM EST

Rupert Grint, because it is a very good actor:)

LilisMom Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 05:38 PM EST

J.K. Rowling--The woman changed the world of children's literature. She created an entire world for us to love, laugh, cry, and debate over. And her final Potter novel brought out the best in her. We've grown up with Harry and Jo as each novel brought them closer to their astoundin finish. If the cast of Grey's could take it one year, then certianly someone who will actually have a lasting imprint on entertainment should.

Anne Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 05:32 PM EST

Some people come to mind as particularly successful this year:
JK Rowling
Judd Apatow
Feist

And in TV:
"The Sopranos" - the finale alone generated more buzz than anything else this year
The cast of "The Office"
"Friday Night Lights" (season one)

Johnny Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 05:13 PM EST

The most obvious choice for me would be the SIMPSONS. Not only did they have a huge movie debut (whose marketing included audience-friendly and equally entertaining stunts like the 7-11 Kwik-E-Marts), they also celebrated their 400th(!!!) episode in prime time, and opened their 19th(!!!) season, a record. If they can not only remain in the spotlight for going on 20 years, but also progress and entertain through new mediums (with a movie that grossed half a billion dollars during a summer that was "supposed" to be dominated by the three-quels) then I don't see any doubt.

If for some reason the Simpsons is not chosen, the only possible replacement would be the cast of the Sopranos, whose final season kept the country watching and whose final seconds are still being analyzed and discussed by audiences everywhere.

Sydney Durden Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 03:30 PM EST

1. Stephen Colbert because millions of people are pulling for him to be the next president
2. The Cast of The Office- the best comedy since Arrested Development
3. Judd Apatow because his movies are raking in hundreds of millions of dollars and helping reverse the box office slump

It's lovely to see other nominees other than HP fans to be honest. If it wasn't for the fact that HP fans got wind of this board or if other fanclubs had posted notices on their boards, it might have been more fair. I do think it hilarious that while one particular HP star is getting a ton of press (as he has all year) for his upcoming work , one isn't getting any, leaving his fans as frustrated as ever. Entertainer of the year? hmmm. Also for the Rupert Grint fans that says his fans are so nice, try reading your own words.

my list.. AVL Mon, Nov 5, 2007 at 08:24 PM EST

1. BACKSTREET BOYS, YES all 5 of them.
2. Ryan Seacrest
3. Dylan Walsh (from Nip/Tuck)

Matthew Watts Mon, Nov 5, 2007 at 07:31 PM EST

On my top 3 list, I would place Beyonce (Because of her willingness to perform so often, and constantly deliver an excellent show). Number 2 would be J.K. Rowling, for finishing off the best book series ever with a bang. Number 3 on my list would be Amy Winehouse. Despite her troubles, she is set to be one of the biggest new acts in years, and I support her.

Thank you for allowing us to help compile your list, EW.

Emma Watson forever!

Bloéb Mon, Nov 5, 2007 at 05:21 PM EST

I believe that one of that must be included by them he is Russell Crowe because we have seen two movies Yuma and American Gansters, two magnificent and unlike roles.

As young actor we must include Daniel Radcliffe for doing Alan Strang's difficult role in Equus. He impressed me when I saw it, and one forgot me completely that was the same; because he has do December Boys and he has been praising for his performance; for doing My Boy Jack whose role is very awkward; for doing Extras being parodied to if same, performance that alone the very good actors can do; for doing of announcer of Radio in Saturday Nigth accurately and finely; for his education, good taste felt of the humor and maturity in all his interviews.

Rupert Grint!Rupert Grint!of course RUPERT GRINT!

He is amazing as Ron and Ben(Driving Lessons). He has natural talent and great prescence on scree, but not only he is the best actor,he's also a good person in real life! he always was modest and respectful!! That's why i love him so~~~~~^0^

emma Mon, Nov 5, 2007 at 12:23 PM EST

This is easy for a top 3.
1.Johnny Depp for Actor. He's done so many great films over the years. Give the man an Oscar already!
2. BSB they have kept me entertained for the years. Even though down to 4 they are still great.
3. The whole cast of Dancing with the stars. Including Drew Lachey because he was a great host while he was there and keeps coming back to dance when someone cancled the last second. Also the pros have the job of teaching clebs to dance or at least keep them entertaining. They show is entertaining because its live and anything can go wrong and you never know who is going to go home each week. It proves that your vote does count.

Mon, Nov 5, 2007 at 11:53 AM EST

people misconstrude much information. without equus dan would have nothing, but as someone point out it would it be as such if not for nudity. the thought of hp naked. i think everyone should ask themselves that. while the first reviews seemed positive for dan, a lot were not. even varity trashed his performence and that says a lot. but db only played in usa for 3 weeks compared to the 4 months that dl played. dl even did better in uk despite people knowing it would be on tv in a few months time. so take away equus and the boys are pretty equal. and equus just had controversy.

still though people are allowed to vote who they want and others need to stop yelling at them for it. there are no rules here. if we want to vote for the extras that appeared in pics we are allowed to. some fans are such bullies!

go rupert grint!!! where his fans are nice!!!

another HP fan Mon, Nov 5, 2007 at 09:39 AM EST

Rupert Grint
Because he's got the best reviews from the professional critics with the least screen time in HP films so far.The nickname ' scene-stealer ' is not named by accident.Plus he did an awesome job in'Driving Lessons '.
Though some supposed HP fan claimed that Grint was the first to venture out but without much success, but in fact the reviews for his performance in 'Driving Lessons' were much more positive than the certain most popular HP star's in 'December Boy'.As for the Equus thing which the star's fans usually used as the proudest proof to show his non-HP success,I wonder if the theater would be still burst at the seams if the audiences were not for seeing Harry Potter being naked...No offence but the fact was that more than half of the audiences were ecstatic HP fans. Therefore I have to say that the name made by some certain most popular star out of the Harry Potter universe was still Harry Potter.
PS:for those who tried to make themselves more tasteful by calling their fellow HP fans 'cheerleaders',it'll only make you more ridiculous and pathetic. So please go and try some tricks more original to make us laugh .

I think the Harry Potter kids should win, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe. But most of all RUPERT GRINT because he is a very good role model for people in general and he is just diferent. He is world famous but is more humble than Bob down at the corner shop. He is really funny and sweet and owns his own ice cream van. I also think a lot of kids can identify with him as he doesn't seem to take himself very seriously and seems like a very normal kid that keeps his head straight and doesn't try and act like an all wise prophet like so many stars do (especially child stars) He is just himself and doesn't try and be anyone else which is something I admire. And he acts like a normal kid and fumbles to find the right words during interviews, but wears a t-shirt that says 'Flick Off' (environmental statement) and breast cancer badges on top of his suits to premieres. He is also not the boring typical Brad Pitt star, he has quirky looks and ginger hair and great style! thanks

HP fan Mon, Nov 5, 2007 at 02:57 AM EST

May I apologize for my fellow HP fans for their petty cheerleading? It has always been like this in our own HP boards. The most popular stars are used as a measuring stick for the less successful cast. Among the HP boys, it's Dan Radcliffe who has made a name for himself outside of the Harry POtter universe. Grint was the first to venture out but without much success. It's amusing how his fans are using Dan as a standard to measure Rupert and claiming that he is better than Dan. Among the HP girls, Emma dominates cause she doesn't have competition. Katie Leung would have but she didn't have a bigger role or you'd see her fans arguing here too. Bonnie Wright is no threat to Emma or you'd have seen her fans do the rivalry thing too. For myself, let's look outside in the world arena for the entertainers of the year. ON TV, HIgh School Musical or Heroes, in Music, Justin TImberlake or Rihanna; in movies, George Clooney or Tom Cruise.

Rupe is not lazy. He just couldnt find anything! It isn't easy for any of them to find work between films. Dan only had two things after OotP (db was done after gof!) and one was only like a week or two. but Rupert is looking but nothing was able to be fit in!!! go rupert grint!

Laura Sun, Nov 4, 2007 at 07:11 PM EST

RUPERT's very special by the way he is! He didn't make himself up because he's HOT by HIMSELF! IDIOTS let's vote for your LOVERS and STOP bashing Rupert! This poll is public and Rupert' fans want to show a little supports . No wrong with that!

And Rupert's not lazy . He want to FOCUS on RON. You have many films or make yourself up as STAR... It doesn't mean you re a GREAT ACTOR! Please leave Rupert alone and let's RESPECT different opinions!

My second choice is URGLY BETTY CAST==> They're so COOL :x

Sun, Nov 4, 2007 at 03:37 PM EST

Enough with all the cradle-robbers campaigning for Rupert Grint. He's nothing special, and has done nothing relevant outside of Harry Potter.

Amy Sun, Nov 4, 2007 at 03:22 PM EST

Katherine Heigl starred in one of the summer's biggest movies and won an Emmy for her role on one of TV's biggest shows. Clearly, the girl's had a good year. Besides her, I'd mention the cast of The Sopranos (if only because they left the Emmys so empty-handed), Kristen Bell, Seth Rogen, and Russell Crowe.

Steven Colbert - his schtick should be old by now, but he's as fresh as ever and has set up a world for himself where he can say anything. He rarely stumbles and he enjoys turning those rare missteps into even better jokes. The Threat Down, The Word, Better Know a District--it's the Price is Right of funny with reliable venues for the very best rants and perfectly cornered interview subjects. And his book--I'll remove one of the stickers and put it on the cover--nailed it!

A few points for the Rupert fans and then I'm outa here.
1. You say you are all older and yet the behavior of some of you on this blog are so patently childish. Equally pathetic is using it as a reason for Rupe not winning in the NMA.THe NIck awards was for kids and Dan didn't win, did he? Don't tell me now that Depp only has Kiddies for fans.
2.I didn't post Dan's wins cause they're small and don't count like Rupert's win a looong time ago. As another HP fan puts it, they all have a long way to go for the big wins. Now that they're older is the time to count them as serious actors and I maintain that it's Dan who has that reputation but he still has to prove it with a big win.
3. Using Rupe's diminished role in HP as an excuse for his not winning again is also pathetic. He had two solo movies all by himself and what nominations did he have?
P.S. Are there only 3 winners? I'd like to add my vote for Heroes and Jensen Ackles and on the music front-Rihanna.

The Spice Girls: even though they haven't been together in ten years they still managed to make headlines all year long--- from The Beckhams moving to L.A. to selling out their world tour in less than 38 seconds. The Spice girls are entertainers of the year

boidiva02 Fri, Nov 2, 2007 at 10:12 PM EST

My picks:

T.R. Knight/Cast Of Grey's Anatomy" T.R.'s public coming out kept Grey's in the headlines all year and provided a chance for the show to get rid of it's most boring character (presont burke) and Katherine Hiegl and Patrick Dempsey support of him was headline making for months so they desever a spot on the list

Ellen De Generes: she won another emmy, claimed her spot as daytimes most popular talk show and of course adopted a puppy... she is an entertainer of the year

Genie Francis: 30 years after debuting as Laura on "General Hospital" which sparked the most popular period in soap opera history she finally won a Daytime Emmy after only being nominated once before in 1996 and loosing... Genie Francis is my entertainer of the year.

I'm an adult fan of the HP Trio,I like all of them, but it doesn't mean I'm a shallow, blind fanatic, and I'd like to see more respect from those who misunderstand HP and HP fans.As for someon wondering why Rupert Grint didn't win at the NMA awards, here's the reason-----All the three HP young stars have not reached the point for the awards at the time----let's be objective, the only reason Dan and Emma won the awards(beating Johnny Depp and Judi Dench?????Oh come on don't make me laugh~~~) was their fans are much younger than other nominees' fans(including Rupert's fans),and they have more spare time and e-mail boxes to vote for their idols----No offence but that's the truth. All of those three do have a long way to go to be professional actors. But in my opinion I'm bullish on Rupert Grint,he really has the potential as an actor(not a pop star) than the other two.Anyway ,bless all three of them!

1. SUPERNATURAL - Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki turn out high quality action packed, emotional shows every week in the most difficult time slot in history. I wish EW would acknowledge it occasionally!!

2. PUSHING DAISIES - It's visually appealing and so very well written. Chi McBride is brilliant!

3. 30 ROCK - It gets better every week!

Lady EW Fri, Nov 2, 2007 at 07:15 PM EST

May I just remind the little fangirls that this "Entertainer of the Year" award is given to the those who are the best in their field in the entertainment business. Don't take the word "entertain" literally. sheesh, Britney entertains me evrytime she rolls in the tabloid dust again. It is not given to some clown who makes us laugh. The word means the top notch in the entertainment field - in show business. Sadly, your little ginger snacks won't even make it in the EW staff board room. This is not a Teen award. I predict the gongs to be given to the powerful megastars like George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Brad PItt and to media moguls like Oprah.

Hunter Fri, Nov 2, 2007 at 06:54 PM EST

In NMA I have voted for JD because I though that JD is the best in here. If there re only Rupert and Dan, I will vote for Rupert. To me Rupert's always Ron Weasley... Dan's not Harry Potter, OK!

But in this poll the question is different "Who's YOUR ENTERTAINER of the year?". It's unofficial and personal! Dan's fan can't accept the truth==> Let's vote if you want! You guys re very rediculous and childlish. Who cares? Nobody can change the fact that he is a great ENTERTAINER in al his screen time. His act is raw and natural.and he's simply the BEST...can't CHANGE that.

Some people think that cutting and pasting increases the chances of their favourite(s) winning.
It does not, multiple votes of multiple voters will be obviously discarded.(think logged IPs)
My votes go to:
First to Ms. Rowling for creating a magical series: a never before seen world-wide literary phenomenon.
Secondly,to the entire HP cast(and crew!)-without whom the magic would not be what it is,
and last but not least, to my favourite cast members: Miss Watson and Mr Grint for bringing to life the incredible Miss Granger and Mr Weasley with charm, humour, wit, credibility enthusiasm and sensibility during this year and the past years.

I'm not a HP fan ,but if I had to choose someone out of the HP kids as my entertainer of the year, then I'd like to choose the redheaded Rupert Grint because among all those HP kids ,only his performance can catch my eyes ,he's funny and cute.I think he’ll be a successful actor in the future.
Also I’d like to vote for Johnny Depp and Helen Mirren, they’re totally amazing!

I see, Dan's fans and their bullying tactics have reached even this place. Been doing that for years. They see some support for anyone other than Dan and they tell the rest of the potter fans not to lump themselves with others because only Dan's fans are "posh" yeah, not ones to learn from the message of JKR's books but then again they are fans of Dan, not HP and JKR.

If it's girl power you want, then don't go beyond Oprah, one of the most powerful celebrities in HOllywood. Among the megastars, don't look further than Tom Cruise, a major movie star, producer and co owner of UA. Among the teens, go no further than Daniel Radcliffe, a kid who commands a talent fee more than what many adult actors receive. He has a reputation as a serious actor and has a great future beyond the Harry POtter series.

george Thu, Nov 1, 2007 at 08:54 PM EST

I'm a conservative and my vote goes to George Clooney. One of the most respected actors in Hollywood today. My other choice is Leonardo diCaprio, one of the best actors in Hollywood today.

That's a good idea posh. Harry POtter as Entertainer of the Year... BOTH the literary character and the movie counterpart. And I would like to add the creator too. There's no Harry without JK Rowling.

And I know some Rupertfans who are nice so let's not ban them. Just that one fanatic who is trigger happy on the cut and paste keys. It's so tiring to scroll down posts of essentialy the very same words and sometimes miss the sane comments.

Let me put my vote in for Zac Efron and the "High School Musical" phenomenon. More successful than 'Heroes' any day of the week. And the cast is bigger and more controversial than any "Heroes' star. Zac Efron is now the IT boy in Hollywood !

And let me put my vote in too for the banning of the HP fans, or is it just Rupert Grint fangirls? Are there a lot of them or just the same person posting over and over again?

Claire Thu, Nov 1, 2007 at 07:04 PM EST

My vote goes to the cast of Heroes. or should I say the TV show "Heroes". One of the biggest TV shows to date and has spawned a new breed of stars.

And yeah, let's ban the HP fanatics especially the Rupert Grint fangirls!

Can we ban the HP fanatics or should I say Rupert Grint fanatics from this blog? They seem to be under the delusion that every comment means a vote. It's irritating to see the same post cut and pasted over and over again. Dumb comments anyway.

My vote goes to Brangelina. Career wise, they have projects that are Oscar shoo ins. Personal life wise, they are around the world giving themselves to charity projects. They are entertaining, the papparazi can never get tired of them. So am I.

to the random poster addressing their post to me. my, you really are all over the place regarding my simple statement that dan's fandom had a voting campaign for him. just stating that it is rather hypocritical of some of you getting upset that people are supporting rupert and not wanting to be lumped w/rupert fans.you sure did read a lot into my simple statement. evidentally reading and comprehension are not your strong suits. your venomous remarks regarding rupert reveals volumes of type of fan you are. again, lighten up. sorry if this somehow offends you, but fans are just letting others know how they feel about the exclusion of grint from the trio. i haven't said anything derogatory about dan. please don't be so sensitive.

Wow, you are getting carpet bombed with Ron Weasley fans, but I think the entertainers of the year must obviously be JK Rowling, the characters of her books and the actors that portray them. When's the last time you had an author as Entertainer of the Year?

rupert grint besides the most obvious,he's one of the beter actors out there,he was born to do this.

Jasmine, the Satellite awards is a true acting award, also the Young Artist Awards. If you look at the other winners and nominees in the page linked, you cant deny its an impressive list. Rupert winning along with Dakota Fanning is proof at the start it is Rupert who wins true awards until his role was diminished and dumbed down to comic relief so that he could no longer qualify for those.

Truth is if someone posted a link to Rupert's won awards, you can also do the same, no matter how small awards Dan won. But you know that Dan is listed for only one true award at the same pages and it is smaller than the Satellite and Young Artist awards. And I will vote more for Johnny Depp, Zac and Shia more than Dan. But I have already stated here before that my vote goes to Rupert Grint.

to Pink, regarding your comment on fans of Daniel organizing a voting campagne for the National Movie Awards, isn't that what fans of Rupert and everybody else did? How else did Rupert get a foot in against the leads of movies like Daniel Craig, Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis etc? It was a public vote and Daniel won. Of course, because Daniel Radcliffe won, it wasn't "fair", but had Depp won, of course no one would question it? Grow up. This isn't a Pulitzer, but it is something some entertainers can legitimately claim and Grint isn't one of them. You people should stop spamming the boards and let Paris and Britney take over. They have been far more entertaining to the rest of us than some bit actor lucky to be in a hit movie. So my vote goes for Radcliffe, Rowling and off the rail starlets.

Jasmine you really make me mad !!! If you love Zac ==> let's vote for him ... so is Dan ! YOU NEED TO SHUT UP AND STOP TEACHING US HOW WE HAVE TO LOVE , SUPPORT OR VOTE FOR SOMEONE ...

Jasmine I'm a a huge Rupert fan and have not posted on here for days. In fact many of us Rupert fans were just talking about how much support Rupert is getting here and it is not just us, so if you think the same person is posting you are wrong!!!! It is obvious many people believe in Rupert and feel he is deserving. And again it's not about winning this award, it's about support!! It's nice to see all of these other people who also believe in him as an actor! You obviously just have a problem with Rupert. I don't know what why you hate him because he is the sweetest most humble person. I guess you probably hate Jesus too.

RUPERT GRINT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!He has natural talent and his acting isn't forced. He captures ronald weasley to perfection.Through his facial expressions from barely there lines in ootp he still captivates the screen and demands the attention and when he is in a scene he steals the scene and all attention is drawn to him.Rupert is sometimes overshadowed by daniel and emma seeing as daniel is the male lead and emma is the main female .Rupert has a great prescence on screen and makes you really believe when ron is jealous or scared or concerned for harry's well being. He finally came across as being brave like the book ron.He can do other things.I saw him in driving lessons and he was amazing. We shall see more of rupert when the harry potter series is over.He has great potential and is a promising rising star. He has a style all his own and is very entertaining."
