Who should star in the 'Justice League' movie?

Sep 27, 2007, 06:00 PM | by Gary Susman

Categories: Comic Books, Deals, Film

Jl_l Jessica Biel had better get some practice with those bullet-deflecting bracelets because she's facing hostile fire from a lot of you. Not too many of you think much of the prospect of Biel starring as Wonder Woman in a Justice League of America movie. A lot of you would prefer Jessica Alba, Kate Beckinsale, or Rosario Dawson, though a similar number found those actresses equally unsuitable. Most interesting suggestion, one that a number of you made, was Morena Baccarin from Joss Whedon's Firefly/Serenity, a suggestion that might have had a chance if Whedon were still making a Wonder Woman movie.

As long as we're spitballing here, who should play the rest of the Justice Leaguers? (In the new issue of EW, Nicole Sperling reports that it's unlikely that Brandon Routh and Christian Bale will be taking busman's holidays from the existing Superman and Batman movie franchises to share the spotlight with the other JLA members.) The prospective casting of Biel suggests a youngish group of heroes, so Tom Welling could slide in naturally as Superman, couldn't he? Plus, they'll need a Batman, a Green Lantern, a Flash, an Aquaman, and others. PopWatcher casting powers: activate!

UPDATE: Biel's reps have confirmed to EW reporter Nicole Sperling that the actress has passed on the movie. (EW also asked Warner Bros. for a reaction to Biel dropping out of the project; the studio declined to comment.) So you still have a chance to lobby for your own favorite Amazon to pilot the invisible jet.

Please Please listen to the fans
and cast TOM WELLING as Superman!!!!

If you do not, I as well as all I associate with will not even care about the movie. Seriously you might as well not even make the movie without TOM WELLING!!!!!

As for the others, keep the cast on Smallville or get some fresh faces for these parts. Fans can just enjoy the movie and see them as the superheros, not someone we've seen in other movies to compare them to/with.

who should be the green arrow?

Riah Tue, Feb 19, 2008 at 10:27 AM EST

I think that the cast should be the same cast from Smallville. I mean for all of us Smallville fans it's just going to be hard to picture someone else in that spot as opposed to having the people we're used to.
Superman: Tom Welling for sure and Green Arrow: Justin Hartley for sure.

Bruce Jackson Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at 01:18 PM EST

All I know is that if they don't get Tom Welling in the suit, I'm gonna be pissed off!!!!!! I've been a huge SUPERMAN fan ever since I was a kid!! I'm 32yrs old and have the biggest crush on Cloee from Smallville. lol I just had to add that in there.he,he And I'm as straight as they come!! But I do know a stud when I one. And Tom Welling definitley fits the profile! Those directors need to get their act together! They're not Gods!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's commmon sence that Tom should be SUPERMAN in the justice league. I'm really getting sick of all the opinions that are not buyest to superman! And that can't even reconize a great actor like Tom when they see it!!! That's all I have to say for now.

Superman: don't really care, Tom Wellings good on smallville, so i guess there's my vote
Batman: Christian Bale!!!!
the Flash: Ryan Reynolds as Wally West Neil Patrick Harris as Barry Allen
Wonder Woman: Denise Quiñones
Aquaman: Justin Hartley, he was great in the aquaman pilot, he was an amazing YOUNG green arrow, but i can't see him as the regular one. I only c him as aquaman
GL: James Marsden (not gonna back this one up) as Hal Jordan Topher Grace as Kyle Rayner and Sammy L. Jackson as John Stewart

Tom Fischer Sun, Dec 9, 2007 at 05:34 AM EST

I have been a fan of Smallville since 2003 in Australia. I feel the cast of the Justice League movie should be exactly the same as the Justice Episode in Smallvile Season 6. I could not imagine the movie without Tom Welling and Justin Hartley. Justin was a great boost for Smallville in Season 6, but I was very dissapointed in the Green Arrow Character being cut out of the story arc- he should be in the show from now on. Justin Hartley is very interesting for being a super hero without any powers. As far as I am concerned Smallville should transition into Tom Welling as Superman, and continue until Tom is ready for the nurising home! The same cast should continue indefinately into the future. I don't see why Tom Welling in a Justice League movie has to mean the end of the Smallville TV series. But wihtout Tom and Justin, I won't be particularly interested.

Yeah don't use that Routh guy. He's a terrible actor.
As for Wonder Woman....Femke Jannsen.
Or...Cindy Crawford. Or..Gabrielle Reese.

Trina Tue, Nov 20, 2007 at 05:04 PM EST

I'm with the majority on these 2.

Superman/Clark Kent - Tom Welling
Flash - Ryan Reynolds

I really don't have an opinion about the rest of the characters, but these two I'd like to see.

Davy Fri, Nov 16, 2007 at 03:33 PM EST

Wonder Woman has to be Tanya Memme. She can easily fill the costume and has the right look.

Adam Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 07:49 AM EST

Superman - Tom Welling Has to play Superman(endorsed by Christopher Reeve!)(this is a brandon routh free zone!)
Batman - Val Kilmer(just joking!), Christian Bale
Flash - Ryan Reynolds or Shia Lebeouf
Martian Manhunter - Phillip Morris(smallville)
Green Arrow - Justin Hartley(smallville)
Cyborg(the guy from smallville?)
Aquaman(The guy from smallville!)
Wonder Woman - Amy Acker from Alias

Dale Twigg Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 04:53 AM EST

Wonder Woman- Monica Belluci(WW must have boobs)
Martian Manhunter-Micheal Dorn
Hal Jordan-Brendan Frasier
Flash-Ryan Reynolds
Blue Beetle-Bruce Campbell
Superman-Tom Welling
Batman-Gerard Butler

Mark E Fri, Nov 2, 2007 at 09:39 PM EST

Superman- Tom Welling

Batman- Christian Bale

Green Lantern- Brendan Fraser as Hal Jordan

Wonder Woman- Liv Tyler

Aquaman- Josh Holloway

The Martian Manhunter- Duane "The Rock" Johnson

The Flash- Paul Walker

I totally think that they should use Hal Jordan as the Green lantern first. That way the younger generation can see how the character went from Hal Jordan to John Stewart. That's just my opinion.

Are they going to cast the Legion of Doom as well?

Justin Flynt Thu, Nov 1, 2007 at 10:46 AM EST

More picks for Justice League

Black Canary-Rachel Mcadams
Green Laturn-Mekhi Phiefer
Green Arrow-George Eads of CSI

Superman - TOM WELLING
Contract or not Tom Welling should definitely have an opportunity to play Superman. He has already proven that he is more than capible to be the one! No one else would compare and this movie would pull in more fans than ever!

Marcus X Wed, Oct 24, 2007 at 09:25 PM EST

I just wanted to add my 2 cents into this. (Note the other characters would be optional).
Batman - Matthew Fox
Wonder Woman - Rebecca Romijn
Superman - Cameron Mathison (Dancing with the Stars)
Lois Lane - Tina Fey (What's Supe's without Lois)
Aquaman - Daniel Craig
GL, Hal Jordan - Josh Duhamel
Gl, John Stewart - Dwane "the Rock" Johnson
Green Arrow - Josh Lucas
Flash, Barry Allen - Ryan Reynolds
Flash, Wally West - Seann William Scott
Martian Manhunter Avery Brooks (Captain Ben Sisco; Star Trek:DS9)
Black Canary - Kristanna Loken
The Atom - Steve Zahn
Zatanna - Rachel McAdams
Hawkman - Adam Copeland a.k.a. Edge (WWE Superstar)
Hawkwoman - Eliza Dushku
Red Tornado - David Duchovny

Wade Wed, Oct 24, 2007 at 09:06 PM EST

A couple of weeks ago I read a small artilce in the In Touch magazine saying that rapper Ludacris is expressing intrest in playing the role of Green Lanturn John Stewart in the JLA movie. I would rather have "the Rock" in this role. He seems to want to do family movies currantly. I think the JLA movie would be a good choice. It would also reestablish his action roots.

...cont on,lol, I hope the WB pays attn to us.Harketh R polls-eth.As much of an all-star cast we might want,nt possible but not every1 is considered an "all-star".
OTHER NOTABLES to check out as other character heroes(agreeing w/ some out there)- Phil Morris(martian).Shia LaBeouf or Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Flash? nah.but cast 'em n e ways.Michael Jai White.
CHARLIE HUNNAM was ridicously excellent in GSHooligans.
Bring in KeithDavid 4 something!!(can't get Roberts get him). The man is funny,& has the next best notable voice since James Earl did Vader! He plays the voice of Spawn 4 cartoon's Sake! They could do a Slvr Surfer thingy, use an actor 4 the body,& some1 else 4 the voice.
Hawkgirl--?? sh*t idk stil
Supe-u know WentworthMiller tried for Supe when Ratner had it.mayb he'll try again and get LUTHOR!
Remember the actors really LOOK YOUNGER than what they are.But if u feel like adding 2-3yrs(assuming 2009,2010 release),to their current ages and 2-3yrs after that(sequels) so be it.

clark kent Tue, Oct 23, 2007 at 04:59 AM EST

wow this is fun...um i pray the casting director&others will actually read our polls 4 sm ideas..though i know not every1 is available or affordable...my mind wandered like manys ov yas and typed away.. some ppl said Keaton as Batman.Love him,but no(unless he stayed in costume heheh).Routh didn't exactly say"no"yet.I can't see Welling dawning the cape but he fits so well 4 US!!!U guys should check the JL actors on Smallville.ask urself "y not?"
alan ritchson(29)has the comic book body of aquaman, but criticised 4 his acting(a lil more lessons won't hurt)WillToale(29)looks Aqua to me(casted but cancelled).JustinHartley(30)was in the Aqua pilot.
Hawkgirl-

Dark Knight- WentworthMillerIII,35
GL-Leonard Roberts,35 final.ok maybe Chiwetel Ejiofor,33
WW-Kate Beckinsale/Angelina Jolie Lucy Lawless
MM-VinDiesel?uh
AquaMan-which White guy u say?Paul Walker/(or 1st 3)
GreenArrow-JHartley

Matt Sun, Oct 21, 2007 at 01:47 PM EST

This is who I would like to see....
Superman: Brendan Fraser(6'3")
Batman: Dylan McDermott(6'0" a dark grittier batman)
Wonder Woman: Monica Dean(5'7" she looks just like WW)
Green Lantern: Common(6'0" would make a great Lantern)
Aquaman: Tom Jane(5'11" AM wouldn't be cheesy anymore)
Flash: Ryan Reynolds(6'2")
MM: Laurence Fishburne(6'0")

I know my cast is not what WB is looking at age wise but i think of the timeline the story is taking place, it would be nice to have a little older cast.

Vicki Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 06:44 PM EST

Well, I guess we can all relax. I just read a tidbit on supermanhomepage.com that according to the DC comics and WB liason Gregory Noveck that Tom Welling WILL NOT be playing Supes! This was just posted on October 16th. He says it would "just confuse the issue" to have him play Superman. Well, guess what WB and Mr. Noveck. You have disappointed a legion of fans by not having him in the movie. In my last posting I said I hoped WB doesn't screw this movie up. They just did. They just don't get what the people want. Not that it matters, but I for one don't want to see this movie without Tom Welling in his rightful role.

Wilson Wed, Oct 17, 2007 at 10:18 PM EST

NOt to break the bank on casting here's my pic's.

Baccarin
Her television career began with "Firefly", in which she appeared as Inara Serra in fourteen of its episodes from 2002 to 2003. Later she did "Still Life" Series appearing as Maggie Jones in six episodes from 2003 to 2004 and in the year 2006 she appeared in five different television shows portraying different roles such as Swarley in "How I Met Your Mother" series, as Lisa Cruz in FOX network's "Justice" series, as Maya Griffin in three episodes of "The O.C." Series, as Gia in "Kitchen Confidential" series and in the animated series, "Justice League" she provided her voice for Black Canary in its multiple episodes. M.B. Too young for Wonder Woman, but you can pray, 50% is cast already, but this is what M.B. had 2 say on her website(... animated series, "Justice League" she provided her voice for Black Canary in its multiple episodes. When asked in an interview "if she's up for the role of Wonder Woman,” Baccarin replied: "I would love to but it would not be up to me."

DIYS Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 09:52 PM EST

Big names are out, their payroll would bankrupt the movie. Remember, right now your casting the good guys. If the good guys are big names then the villans have to be big names. I say go middle of the road actors who will work cheap for the chance to be in a big budget movie. Here's my cast, all of which can be seen on IMDB.com

Superman: Tom Welling, best I can think of for now
Batman: David Boreanez "Angel"
Wonder Woman: Liz Vassey "CSI" or Coby Smulders "Met Your Mother". The hardest role to fill but your kidding yourself if you think they will let a D cup run around in that costume.
Flash: Brett Harrison "Reaper" perfect for the role
Green Lantern: someone else mentioned him, Henry Simmons "Shark"
AquaMan: Mark Paul Gosselaar, yes the guy from "Saved By The Bell"
Martian Manhunter: since he can take any form get actors/actresses who are comic geeks who will do it for scale just to play a super hero.
All 7 heroes for under $10million combined. More $$$ for Special Effects.

STX37 Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 05:26 PM EST

Superman - Brandon Routh
Batman - Christian Bale
Wonder Woman - Morena Baccarin
Flash - Ryan Reynolds
Green Lantern/Hal Jordan - George Eads
(Green Lantern/John Stewart - Common)
Aquaman - Jason Statham
Martian Manhunter - Doug Jones
Green Arrow - Thomas Jane
and just for fun...
Plastic Man - Dane Cook

grr Sat, Oct 13, 2007 at 07:51 PM EST

Batman is the night, the lurker in the shawdows. Superman is the day, who basks in the light. Batman strikes fear into the hearts of foes & the public. They run away from him. Superman inspires love in the hearts of the public. They run toward him. Batman is an emotionally scarred, intense brooder. Superman is an emotionally well adjusted, generally happy person.
Hollywood keeps trying to screw this up, by turning Superman into Batman, because they find Superman "boring". Happy, well adjusted & well loved is "boring". Fans were horrified when they heard of Tim Burton's plans to turn Supes into a dark, alienated figure. They revolted. They were also generally unsatisfied with Superman Returns' moping, depressed take on the character. Superman enjoys his powers and enjoys helping people. Yeah, he is a lot more "boring" than all the gritty brooding heroes, but that is what makes him special. Writers & directors may have to work harder to make a Supes story dynamic, but they're too lazy.

grr Sat, Oct 13, 2007 at 07:35 PM EST

Jim Caviezel is way too whipcord thin to be Superman. He really looks nothing like the character. He is a brooding, intense actor, which makes him a perfect Batman, but a terrible Superman. If Bale ever leaves the franchise, Caviezel is the best replacement around. Bat fans would love it.
The studio keeps trying to turn Superman into Batman, and it really pisses the fans off. THEY ARE EXACT OPPOSITES.

Chris Sat, Oct 13, 2007 at 02:09 PM EST

I have a short list:
Wonder Woman-Kate Beckinsale
Superman-Jim Caviezel
The Martian Manhunter-Carel Struycken
Green Lantern-Henry Simmons
I'm still thinking of the others.

Ali Sat, Oct 13, 2007 at 07:11 AM EST

For wonder woman well someone suggested Manuela Arcuri I checked her and she fit the role of W.W. in appeareance

Wonder Woman was portray by L.C. she has been the standard for W.W. so obviously you will try to keep with that image, in the comics books WW is caucasian so look for a girl like that for the part.

Ali Sat, Oct 13, 2007 at 06:51 AM EST

T.W. should be Superman he embodied CK and is proggressively becoming Supes in SMallville, some say he is weak well he has to portray that in SMV he can be tougher as he has show some glimps of that mighty Supes in the tv I can't think of a better SUpes after Reeve, the guy has all to be supes and dont worry about SR cuz CK would play a younger Supes just like C.B is playing a batman at his beginnings. He is an actor he can act tougher.

For the Superman franchise B.R. should stay as he is the continuation of where Reeves left so he probably woulndt fit with the others and it would look awful to change actor.

Batman is definitely C.B. after watching the older Batman movies this new batman resembles how batman should be more darker. Go with Bale for JLA. Getting another actor to play would lose some credibility we already has Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney and now Bale no more actors please.

Erica Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 11:01 PM EST

Martian Manhunter = Hugo Weaving. I'm not sure how the movie is going to show the MM. Does he go around in his detective disguise most of the movie, with a few CGI shots of him in alien form? Weaving looks like his disguise, plus he has the action background to stick in killer fight scenes.
But if the movie is just going to paint somebody blue for the whole time, then Christopher Judge has the body for it.

Erica Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 10:43 PM EST

Batman = George Clooney. As a past Batman, he lends credibility to the role. People are gonna gripe if they get some newbie instead of Christian Bale, but they'll accept Clooney. He could be a great Batman, if he doesn't have to worry about rubber nipples on his suit.

Erica Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 10:34 PM EST

Superman = Tom Welling. Christopher Reeve is giant presence looming over the role, but he has sadly left us. Tom Welling is the Superman of my generation, just as George Reeves was for his day, regardless that both were tv Superman. After countless years in the role, it is hard to avoid seeing Welling as the real deal. He has the look and aura of Superman exactly nailed. He projects warm good humor as well as physical menace. It is hard seeing someone else in the role at this point.

Erica Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 10:16 PM EST

Wonder Woman = Kate Beckinsale, 32 is not old for crying out loud! Seriously Hollywood get a clue.
Runner up is Gina Torres. Yeah that one might cause an uproar, but casting Wonder Woman is proving almost impossible. She is one of the few actresses who are shapely, tall, fit, beautiful, and who can play tough, regal, stern, serene, humorous and warm. She is a seriously good actress with great athleticism. But she's black. But I still can't think of anyone better to play an Amazon princess.

Wilson Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 09:54 PM EST

I guess a lot of you have forgotten Dean Cain did play Superman. Any body else remember him. He'd also be my choise for Clark/Superman.

Tom Macias Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 03:17 PM EST

Here is my list for casting the Justice League for 1st & 2nd choices

superman - gerard butler, patrick wharburton
wonderwoman - christina applegate, katherine heigl
the martian hunter - isaiah washington, hugh jackman
green lanter - jaime foxx, dwayne johnson
batman - mathew fox, clive owen
flash - george eades, steve carell
aquaman - nathan fillion, julian mcmahon

Evader Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 09:13 AM EST

No no no no, Jason "Baldhead" Statham Batman? He/////// no! Monica Bellucci/Wonder Woman ? Maybe if this was ALREADY filmed 10 years ago! Come on people! She is a hot 45 year old!
If you want T.W. for Superman then you have to get someone closer to 31!
Like Catherine Bell or Manuela Arcuri, both can fight, tall, natural brunettes, and...this is IMPORTANT, can act!!!! Besides their natural beauty! If you want to keep casting older women then DEMI MOORE gets my vote for Wonder Woman!!!!!! Oh, and how about this, MOON BLOODGOOD for Hawkwoman! If you don't know who she is think Journeyman on Mon. after Heroes!

Maggie Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 01:47 AM EST

Please, please, please cast Tom Welling as Superman. EW, please post a poll so the public can be heard. Let the numbers speak for themselves. This is such a hot topic; casting is so vitally important for Justice League. I'm worried that Warner Brothers hasn't been listening to us fans. Aren't we the ones who'll be buying the tickets, DVDs, toys and T-shirts?

Jim Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 12:53 AM EST

I love Nicolas Cage. But, when he was announced as Tim Burton's Superman, I was ready to join the mob in burning down the studio.
Anger ran very high all over the net. That wasn't because geeks didn't love Nic Cage and Tim "geek god" Burton. They did and they still do. But that casting was just all kinds of wrong.
Jake Gyllenhaal follows very much in that vein.

Jim Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 12:42 AM EST

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Flash is a pretty inspired choice. He's my new favorite.
OTOH, Jake Gyllenhaal as Superman would be the most awful idea ever. He is a good actor, who sadly looks, and acts, nothing like the character. In superhero films, getting the look right is a big deal. It even outweighs pure acting talent as a requirement. Otherwise, Meryl Streep would be playing Wonder Woman.

I have been reading all of the comments from this last week. I have to say I too am enjoying reading everyone else's thoughts on this particular subject as well. Speaking of, I agree with "Dean". SR was just alright. When I heard that Tom Welling didn't get that part, I was bummed but like "Dean", went and saw the movie anyway. It was disappointing. I just kept thinking that WB made a mistake not casting the Superman of now, Tom Welling. I kept thinking that he would have been soooo much better. Like Superman in the 70's/80's, you think of Christopher Reeve. It's the same with Tom Welling. Whether it's Superman for the big/little screen, whether you watch Smallville or not, Tom is this generations Superman. Let's just hope that this time out the WB doesn't screw it up again and takes the time to see what has been under their noses this whole time, Tom Welling.

Paul Walker and Vin Diesel are filming Fast&Furious 4 during the same time Justice League is filming. Jennifer Garner will also be filming at the same time. So, cross them off the lists.

Dean Wed, Oct 10, 2007 at 10:24 PM EST

Fans overwhelmingly wanted Welling for Superman Returns. It didn't happen. They saw the movie anyway. Then they went "meh" and didn't go back. So now the sequel to SR has been pushed off and we're getting Justice League instead.

So WB is back at the beginning. Fans want Welling and Bale. WB has already said "you're not getting Bale". If they add "and you're not getting Welling either", then they are pretty much resigned to a repeat of SR. Fandom will rant non-stop until the movie comes out, then go see it anyway, say "Meh" and won't return. Domestic box office tops out under production costs. SR all over again. Justice League sequel gets pushed off for ... World's Finest. And it all starts up again.

Wade Wed, Oct 10, 2007 at 09:46 PM EST

Yes, the WB has Tom Wellings contract.
Yes, the WB is trying to get this movie off the ground. The chance of WB useing Tom as Superman in this movie...
SLIM AND NONE!!!
Besides in Smallville Clark is still not in Metropolis.

Iowayboy Wed, Oct 10, 2007 at 03:41 PM EST

This seems like a fun game. I enjoyed reading all of the varied speculation.

Personally, were I calling the shots, I would view this project as an ensemble piece, rather than a star vehicle. Therefore, I would want to put forth the most attractive cast I could, without breaking the bank on salaries. So, no A-listers. My cast would look something like this:

Superman: Tom Welling
Batman: James Franco
Green Lantern: "The Rock" Johnson
Wonder Woman: Bobbie Phillips
The Flash: Jonathan Taylor Thomas
Aquaman: William Gregory Lee
Martian Manhunter: Delete. (The dumbest character ever to take up space in a comic book.)

Up, up and away!

Alidacosta Wed, Oct 10, 2007 at 02:06 PM EST

Instead of trying to tread and re-tread through the vast list of Hollywood and television actresses, why not blaze a new trail. Wonder Woman is from the Greek Isles. Why not have the movie studio go over there, and host a search for an unknown (by American standards) actress to take the part, and own the role for years to come? If she is beautiful enough, and can act, no one will lament the fact that she's not this person or that person. If there is a cast of other, more well-known actors around her, it will give her an opportunity to shine and make her own mark. And with speech lessons to soften an accent, she can begin the movie on her native island with the thick accent. But lose it by the end of the movie.

One last point - if the current flock of actresses in Hollywood aren't interested in the roll (Jessica Biel), or aren't right for the role (Jennifer Aniston or Sandra Bullock), why try to put a round peg in a square hole? Haven't we learned anything from Catwoman?

Melissa Wed, Oct 10, 2007 at 01:50 PM EST

Tom is amazing as Clark Kent on Smallville, I think the role would suite him perfectly!!!

Anyaem_nyc Wed, Oct 10, 2007 at 12:52 PM EST

Superman--WB needs to stop messing around and get Tom Welling into those tights and cape already. Brandon Routh was a bore in "Superman Returns", which I partly put on Bryan Singer.

Flash--Ryan Reynolds (no brainer!)

Batman--if they can't get Christian Bale, I'm lobbying for Jonn Hamm.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0358316/maindetails

He's currently the lead actor in "Mad Men." He is gorgeous, charming, sexy and brooding, which fits the Bruce Wayne/ Batman persona to a tee.

Green Lantern--Michael Jai White or Henry Simmons fit the bill

Wonder Woman--that's a tough one. For one thing, some of these actresses are either too damn skinny or talentless to play the Amazonian princess. I think we had Wonder Woman right under our noses with Lucy Lawless. That's the template they need to go by. Monica Belluci comes close but her accent is a hindrance

Laura Mon, Oct 8, 2007 at 09:26 PM EST

Kristoff St.John (Neil on the Young and the Restless) should play the Green Lantern. Every time I see the Justice League cartoons, I can't help but see him in that role....

Evader Mon, Oct 8, 2007 at 09:13 PM EST

Another great runnerup 4 Wonder Woman...Manuela Arcuri...ooooooooooo She can act and she can fight plus she is tall great looking and no need 4 dye!!!! Still don't get her? Then bix.yahoo.com search.

3. Wonder Woman - 6ft and 165 Lbs
4. Green Latern - 6ft 1in and 201 Lbs

...no no no on P.W. on A.M. yes to DANIEL CRAIG, and if U don't know Y, then quit fooling yourself in thinking you like movies! P.W. if he would bother 2 get acting lessons, would make a better FLASH. I know a lot of U R saying Ryan Reynolds, and I would agree if U will 4get that he was in BLADE!! Speaking of, Y on earth would any of U remotely come up with Snipes 4 G.L. ? Besides the fact that he really does not have N E people skills,( I Met him in person in '96)he is too short ( 5'7) and what series of movies was he in? C Rules of Comic Book Movies #1.Below. Will Smith, best and logical choice, and he has kids and is very fit( C trailer I AM LEGEND @ yahoo)so no doubt that he would do it cause it is a win win for him. Keep in mind his past 8+ movies have passed the 100 mil dollars mark and he has NO straight-2-DVD movies!(P.W and W. Snipes hv plenty) My choice for Wonder Woman is Catherine Bell( search @ bix.yahoo.com) with a close second of Jeri Ryan with a good dye job!! More....

Evader Mon, Oct 8, 2007 at 10:53 AM EST

Ok people, I'm back and am slightly more disappointed. First rule of c.b. movies, if you starred in a Marvel Comics movie, you nix your chance @ EVER playing another superhero or villian, ESPECIALLY in a competitors (DC COMICS) movie. It will not fly w/true believers!! Second, a lot of you are just spitting out names cause they either look good and young or they are seasoned and old. KNOW YOUR HEROES as well as the actors of choice!Rather U are going off the JL of 2day or the 70's ALL of the JL even in the comics are in the mid to L8 30's, with the exception of the Flash of today early 30's. I can understand that U might have a fantasy of who U might want to see in tights, but lets B realistic, way 2 many of U R just out right ridiclueless. Paul Walker Aquaman?!! N.F.W.!!!! Can't act, too much "Surfer DUDE" or "VALLEY GUY" in him. Aquaman is THE KING of ATLANTIS, do U even remotely think the king is ever going to say DUDE or sound like he just came off a HIGH 20min ago? No, ... PT1

Did an image search on the actors to see what others were imaging. Very nice. Just to add, no matter who is cast, these are characteristics I think about:

Batman: should look ubersmart--too smart for Mensa? Visceral/raw/human, wise, refined, well-traveled & knowlege of the occult, et. al. Square jaw, slim eyes, elongated muscles, taller than Supes.

Superman: Strong, kind, softer looks than Batman. His IQ's around 140. His strength is 3x's higher than the Bat--after all, he is an alien.

WW: Bold looking--not girly. Smarter than Supes! Strong jaw, pentrating light, eyes. No soft/wimpy features save for her curvature-a woman who looks like an Amazon! Can bench press more than Batman. SENSUAL--YET RESERVED. VERY TALL, rippled abs (from constant fighting/uberstrong).. Not Lucy, Garner, Beckinsdale (too English/uptight looking)...I've seen choices that seem to fit better.

Aquaman: Swimmer's build--obviously, otherworldly look, very dexterous, deep eyes.

Possible cast and their ages in 2008.
Paul Walker(35), Josh Hartnett(30), Christian Bale(34), Tom Welling(31), Ryan Reynolds(32), Jennifer Garner(36), Kate Beckinsale(35), James Caviezel(40), Thomas Jane(39), Brandon Routh(29), Seann William Scott(32), Tyrese Gibson(30), Shia LaBeouf(22), Nathan Fillion(37), Eric Bana(40), Adam Baldwin(46), Michael Keaton(57), Monica Bellucci(44), Jennifer Connelly(38), Megan Fox(22), "T.I." Tip Harris(28), Omar Epps(35),Chiwetel Ejiofor(34), Morris Chestnut(39)
Anybody I miss?

Tess Sun, Oct 7, 2007 at 02:25 PM EST

Everyone's choices sound really good.

(Monica Belucci as Wonder Woman would be incredible)

Christian Bale = Batman. This would be greaat for Warner Brothers as a tie in to their whole Batman franchise.

Routh or Welling would be good for Supes, although, I am partial to Routh.

As for Wonder Woman, I'd like to rule out the obvious: Garner. She's already been the Dare Devil's bladed assasin. PICK AN UNKNOWN!

I just want to add that I prefer characters who really match all of the physical characteristics of each comic book character. I have built the visual paradigm of Wonder Woman having jet black hair and blue/grey eyes, Superman being of the same features.

However, at the same time, actors can break those comic book molds. For example, there have been a few manifestations of the Green Lantern. And, I think Hollywood could focus on a mixing in a little diversity in casting. I would also like to see an African/African/black actor to play the Green Lantern.

Ted Sun, Oct 7, 2007 at 01:35 PM EST

So, this movie is going to be like Scanner Darkly and Beowolf? Semi-cartoon and semi-live action?
Sounds like crap.

plotty mcplot Sun, Oct 7, 2007 at 01:15 PM EST

Welling's smallville contract is with WB. The JL is being made by ... WB. If WB wants him, they got him. Smallville shooting ends in March. If Clark disappears into the Fortress of Solitude for training for 4 or 5 episodes, nobody would care. More screen time for Lex, to give him a big send off, since he isn't coming back next year.
-
Here's a fun game: possible reasons Clark Kent disappears for awhile:
Clark is kidnapped by LexCorp. Green Arrow returns to plot his rescue.
Clark is kidnapped by evil government agency. Lois uses military contacts to plot his rescue.
Clark is in Kryptonian related coma. Kara plots his healing/rescue.
Clark is stuck in the phantom zone by Brainiac. Kara plots his rescue.
Clark goes off to the Fortress of Solitude for training. No one rescues him.

Vicki Sun, Oct 7, 2007 at 12:20 PM EST

As much as I personally see no other person except Tom Welling as Clark Kent/Superman, I believe he WON'T be chosen for the movie. Why? He is contractually bound to Smallville through season 8. The only time he can do a movie is during his summer break ala' The Fog and Cheaper by the Dozen movies. With an impending directors/actors strike rumored for next June, TPTB want the movie done before next summer. That leaves Tom out as he works until the end of April or so. At the risk of showing my age, does anyone else out there remember Tom Selleck as Magnum? He was slated to play Indiana Jones but couldn't because "he was contractually bound to Magnum" and couldn't fit it into his schedule. He lost out on a major role/franchise. This might happen to Tom unfortunately. I hope I am wrong.

Current comics say Superman and Wonder Woman are effectively immortal and ageless, forever being in their 30's. I thought a script leak called for Flash to be the youngest member, so he'd be in the 20's, at most. Batman is the character that they can really go older with. He'd work well as the grizzled mentor type, and it wouldn't interfere with Bale' work.
So, know of any cool, gritty guys in their 40's and 50's to play Batman?

crice3 Sun, Oct 7, 2007 at 10:33 AM EST

Has anyone thought of the Alex Ross Justice League? The older and greyer JL? That way we would at least get some good actors.

Vicki Sun, Oct 7, 2007 at 08:50 AM EST

When I first heard of the JLA movie, the first person I thought of was Tom Welling as Superman. HE IS Clark Kent/Superman. Much better than Brandon Routh (sorry, but true). As for a couple of comments about him being to young for the role, don't forget the man is 30 years old in real life. For his character in Smallville, they have to shave off about 9 years as his character is 21 thus the younger looking clothes/haircut, etc. I also agree that Kate Beckinsale would make a great WW. She is one tough cookie.

Jack Sat, Oct 6, 2007 at 10:39 PM EST

Jennifer Garner would be a great Wonder Woman but people will still complain that she doesn't look exactly the part.
Tom Welling is the perfect Superman. Plus, adding a new third Superman is just retarded. Everybody is already complaining about that.
Thomas Jane would be a good Aquaman. It has to be somebody really kickass tough, or the role becomes a joke.

Richard Sat, Oct 6, 2007 at 07:03 PM EST

Wonderwoman: Jennifer Garner
Green Lantern: Jamie Foxx
Superman: The Rock
Flash: Ryan Reynolds
Aquaman: Matt Damon
Martian Manhunter: Hugh Laurie (House)
Batman: Gerard Butler

Nick hennessy Sat, Oct 6, 2007 at 06:41 PM EST

This may seem funny, but I think Chris Rock would make a great Green Lantern.Vin Deisel looks Martianesque, etc.
Rutger Hauer has the fierceness of Aquaman.
Christian Bale knows how to do Batman.
I like the idea of Jake Gyllenhaal flying around in a Superman suit.
Shia Leboeuf has the speed of Flash and would be good in that role.
Kate Beckinsale has the appearance of Wonder Woman.

school play Sat, Oct 6, 2007 at 02:31 AM EST

lol. Welling looks older than Routh, who frankly looked too young and unbaked in SR. Why they went with a teen cast for SR remains a mystery, but they all looked like kids playing dress up in their parents clothes.

Kikoman and the Soy Wonder Sat, Oct 6, 2007 at 12:48 AM EST

Okay, to be frank, since Jessica Biel is already confirmed as Wonder Woman, I can automatically say that all the other characters are going to have to be way young, which I find incredibly stupid(Especailly since Jon Stewart is a retired military man). anyways... here's my ideal list followed by the follow up should Jessica Biel remain Wonder Woman done in Parentheses:
Batman - Gerard Butler(Christian Bale)
Superman - Brandon Routh because let's face it people, Tom Welling is Just too Young to be in Justice League, maybe Teen Titans.
Wonder Woman - Lucy Lawless (Jessica Biel)
The Flash - Ryan Renolds
Green Lantern - Dennis Haybert as John Stewart(Robert R. Cross), or to mix things up, Dane Cook as Kyle Raynor or Malcom Reynolds as Hal Jordan
Martian Man Hunter - Carl Lumbly or Tony Todd
Hawkgirl(if they actually include her) - Jessica Alba

Kevin C. Fri, Oct 5, 2007 at 12:34 PM EST

Superman-Dean Cane/Malcolm Reynolds
Green Lantern-Tyrese/Michael Jai White
The Flash-Ryan Reynolds/Dane Cook
The Batman-Matt Damon
Martian Manhunter-Ron Perlman
Aquaman-Ben Foster-X-men3
Wonderwoman-Selma Blair
HawkGirl-Michelle Ryan

Surfer Fri, Oct 5, 2007 at 05:56 AM EST

Due to all the rumors, I checked out the last two Smallville episodes, for the first time in a long time. OMG Tom Welling IS Superman. The authority, warmth and assurance, it was all there. Plus the physicality and force he projects, like he could really lay the smack down, if he let loose. Very impressive. Yeah, I'm up for him as Superman.

Sante Fri, Oct 5, 2007 at 12:44 AM EST

BATMAN: Bruce Campbell
SUPERMAN: Patrick Warburton
WONDER WOMAN: Lucy Lawless
THE FLASH: Ryan Reynolds
AQUAMAN: Paul Walker
MARTIAN MANHUNTER: Ving Rhames
GREEN LANTERN:Omar Epps

This movie's gotta be different than the batman/superman series. Get some different people in there. I think all these actors can be serious and comical when needed, and as for Wonder Woman, she's gotta be bad ass, she's an amazon for pete's sake. Lawless pulled off Xena, a perfect example of a bad ass amazonian princess. And Bruce Campbell as Batman, haha how could you go wrong with that??

Juliet Fri, Oct 5, 2007 at 12:25 AM EST

Batman - Aaron Eckhart (with dyed hair, of course)
Superman - Matthew Settle
Wonder Woman - Jennifer Connelly
Flash - Ryan Reynolds
Green Lantern - Ron Livingston
Aquaman - Jude Law
Martian Manhunter - Carl Lumbly (He'll be under a ton of make-up or CG and we all know his voice from the cartoon, so why not?)

If you are going from the earlier days and even if not it has to be Hal Jordan. The only real and best green lantern. I grew up with comics Hals the only one.I feel so strongly on this that I doubt most of my family parents and other siblings families probably wouldnt bother to see this film without green lantern being HAl Jordan.David Boreanaz would be wonderful in this role. Tom Welling for superman is a no a brainer. Lucy lawless would be a good wonder woman we already know she can be an amazon.

As a longtime fan of all these characters, here are my picks, younger and older depending on the script:
Superman-Tom Welling (it just needs to be)or Patrick Warburton
Batman-Wentworth Miller, either way
Wonder Woman-Morena Baccarin or Lucy Lawless
Martian Manhunter-Carl Lumbly, either way
Flash-Jensen Ackles or Damian Lewis
Green Lantern(Jon Stewart)Gary Dourdan or Dennis Haysbert
Aquaman-Karl Urban, either way

As a definate, Tom Welling should play superman, he already does it so well. For Flash, I think someone young and smart ass, but fun. But, as far as Jessica Biel and some of the others, you have to think of the characters they would be playing, not just the physical characteristics of the actors.

I AGREE WITH ART... MEGAN FOX WOULD BE AN EXCILLET WONDER WOMAN, NOT ONLY DOES SHE HAVE THE EYES, THE SKIN TONE, THE HAIR, BUT HER RECENT ACTION MOVIE FILM (TRANSFORMERS) PROVES SHE'S WORTHY OF PLAYING THE ROLE OF WONDER WOMAN... JESSICA BIEL.. I AM SORRY TO SAY, BUT ...NO LOOKS NOTHING LIKE WONDER WOMAN.. I DONT EVEN KNOW HOW SHE EVEN GOT MENTIONED TO PLAY HER!! MEGAN FOX 200%!!

ART Wed, Oct 3, 2007 at 06:45 PM EST

MEGAN FOX... by far would be the best choice for wonder woman! Jessica Beil would not be able to pull that off, she's not worthy.

Batman: Gerard Butler - if it won’t be Bale.
Superman: Tom Welling - because he’s the best.
Wonder Woman: Kate Beckinsale - beauty and strength.
Aquaman: Thomas Jane - a fish talker you can fear.
Martian Manhunter: Christopher Judge - unless it is CGI.
Flash: Shia LaBeouf - young and wry.
Green Lantern: Roger R. Cross - see 24.

Karl Beebe Wed, Oct 3, 2007 at 05:01 PM EST

Superman-Brandon Routh
Batman-Christian Bale
I don't care how problematic this is. You asked who I thought should be in the role. They're it.

Martian Manhunter-Michael Dorn
Big actor with a good voice, and he's done the alien make-up thing.

Flash-Woody Harelson
He can do the smart ass with the munchies thing.

Green Lantern-Wesley Snipes
If you have Woody you gotta have Wesley. That and Jon Stewart would be confusing.

Wonder Woman-Tera Patrick
You couldn't miss with her in the Amazon armor. (remember this is my list)

Aquaman-Daniel Craig
An English guy to play a king named Arthur. And he's done the getting up out of the water scene.

Maxwell Lord-Pierce Brosnan
Craig as a good guy, Brosnan as the lead baddy, it would be big on both sides of the pond.

Some of you people are forgetting one thing...you cant have a person that has already played a superhero play a different superhero...like James Marsden, he was Cyclops!!! It just doesn't fit.
Superman:Tom Welling(Smallville)
Batman:Christian Bale(Batman Returns)
Wonder Woman:Catherine Bell (JAG)
Green Lantern:(John Stewart)Bow Wow
Martian Manhunter:Hugo Weaving
Hawkgirl:Laura Prepon (that 70's Show)
Aquaman:Adrien Grennier(after all he was Aquaman on Entourage :-)
The Flash:Paul Walker(Fast & Furious)
Green Arrow: Justin Hartley(Green Arrow on Smallville)
Maxwell Lord:John Malkovich, Terrance Stamp or Terry O'Quinn(Lost)

How about Cerina Vincent from Cabin Fever for Wonder Woman?

Christian Wed, Oct 3, 2007 at 09:19 AM EST

Superman: Brandon Routh or Tom Wellings, why go on a search when you got two good choices already, as well as a possible way to bring "Smallville" full circle.

Wonderman: Courtney Cox maybe...if going more youthful then Biel would be fine, or Evangeline from "Lost"

Martian Manhunter: CGI, voice of Terrance Stamp

Green Lantern: Hal Jordan version, James Marsden or Shawn Ashmore

Batman: eh, pick a newcomer

Flash: Zac Efron or possible "Who Wants to be Super Hero" Hyper Strike John Stork.

Aquaman: Definetly Eric Christian Olsen (also consider Hyper-Strike John Stork)

These are solid characters and need good actors to slip into the roles.
Here are my choices:

Batman - Gerard Butler
Superman - Tom Welling
Wonder Woman - Angelina Jolie
Green Lantern - Wesley Snipes
Martian Manhunter - Hugo Weaving or Doug Jones
Flash - Ryan Reynolds
Aquaman - Heath Ledger

For the role of Batman Christian Bale is awesome and if he could reprise it then I don't think it would put the series currently going in jeopardy, Gerard Butler is suitable, he would bring the same toughness and intelligence to the character that Christian does. Brandon Routh could portray Superman again, but Superman Returns wasn't all that great. Tom Welling would certainly be a nice fit. Wonder Woman could actually spawn a franchise of her own so she needs to be played by a strong actress like Angelina Jolie. The Green Lantern would be easy for someone like Wesley Snipes or Vin Diesel perhaps, to fit into. The others are shoeins; Reynolds has Flash's quirky nature, hl has look

Batman-David Boreanaz

The Return Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 05:36 PM EST

Rumor has it that the JL Batman is older than the rest of the JL, acting as leader. If this is true, then there is only one choice:
MICHAEL KEATON!
That's right. Bring back the original.
Toss in Tom Welling, as the Superman most identified by this generation. Hugo Weaving/CGI for the shapeshifting Martian Manhunter. Ryan Reynolds as the Flash.

Dan Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 04:55 PM EST

I said it once
I'll say it again
Wonder Woman
Should be Julie Strain

Flash- Ryan Reynolds, obvious choice

Rob Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 02:12 PM EST

While I would love to see Bale and Routh play Batman and Superman,I'm going to make my list without them since they both said no.By the way,Bale is by far the best Batman ever and is one of the best actors out there. With that said here is my Cast for Justice league:
Batman:Colin Farrell or Jake Gyllenhaal
Superman:Ryan Gosling or Milo Ventimiglia(Heroes)
Wonder Woman:Kate Beckensale or Hayden Panettiere(Heroes)
Flash:Ryan Reynolds or Wentworth Miller(Prison Break)
Aquaman:Paul Walker or Sean William Scott
Green Lantern:Emile Hirsch(Into the Wild) or Cole Hauser(K-Ville)
Martian Manhunter:Gerald Butler or Josh Hartnett

B & B Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 02:05 PM EST

The cast for Justice League should be as follows:
BATMAN - Christan Bale
SUPERMAN - Brandon Roth
FLASH - Ryan Reynolds
WONDERWOMAN - Angelina Jolie
AQUAMAN - Heath Ledger
GREEN LANTERN - Wesley Snipes
MARTIAN MANHUNTER - Vin Diesel

As far as other movies made on individual characters, it should reflect their own personal story and not make any difference if they are played continually at the same time, or by other actors at the same time. Trust the public. We want to see these characters in the movies. Example Halley Barry played Storm and then Catwoman.

Jackie Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 01:31 PM EST

Superman: Tom Welling
Wonder Woman: Evangeline Lily or an unknown
Aquaman: Paul Walker
Green Lantern: Will Smith or Jaime Foxx
Flash: Ryan Reynolds
MM: Aaron Douglas. Great actor. He is also tall and has a deep voice.

Angel Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 10:40 AM EST

You can't have both David Boreanaz and Charisma Carpenter in the movie, without it feeling like a weird Angel episode. It's got to be one or the other. I'd pick David first.

mememe Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 09:38 AM EST

I used to think of John Stewart as an uninteresting character, but on the latest cartoon Justice League they fleshed him out and made him pretty cool. I actually would like to see John Stewart instead of Hal Jordan now, fanboys aside. I just think he'd bring more of a dimension to the movie, and there's a lot you could do with the character. So go ahead and yell at me now.

Shade Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 09:33 AM EST

It seems like there is realistic expectations here and pure fanboy fantasy going on. The big name superheroes (Batman, Superman) always do better with an unknown or lesser known actor because they become the character. The smaller heroes (Flash, J'onn J'onnz) almost need a big name to get the audience to identify with the character more. (e.g. - Ryan Reynolds is the Flash? He must be kind of a smart ass, but loyal at the same time. OK I get it.) For this, since I don't know any unknowns, I'll have to use real names. (I'm taking this way too seriously) Anyway here goes:

Superman - Tom Welling (All anyone knows him by is Smallville)
Batman - David Boreanaz (Dark, brooding, just like Angel)
Wonder Woman - Charisma Carpenter
J'onn J'onnz - Vin Diesel
Aquaman - Paul Walker (I hadn't thought of him before, but he really fits)
Green Lantern - Will Smith (huge name, not so huge character. People need something to identify him with.)
Flash/Barry Allen - Ryan Reynolds

Sean Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 09:17 AM EST

Evander if you scroll down and see my first posted commented I picked Jeri Ryan as well for WOnder WOman. :-)

Ben Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 07:15 AM EST

Why dont they use Tom Welling from Smallville for Superman? I like the idea of Paul Walker for the Flash, and Vin Diesel for Manhunter. Batman could be Bale but Doesn't bother me too much. The rest they could bring on some no names and that would be alright with me.

MckJones Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 02:05 AM EST

Brandon Routh for Superman. He was the best thing about Superman Returns.

Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 10:58 PM EST

Has anyone thought about Katherine McPhee as Wonder Woman ?

Wade Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 10:09 PM EST

If the WB want to do this right they should get established actors at least for the Big 3.
Batman: Mark Wahlberg
Superman: Ben Affleck Come on he was in Hollywoodland.
Wonder Woman: Kate Beckinsale or Jennifer Connelly They have the look.
For Aurther they should grab someone who can look like the King of Atlantis.
Aquaman: Daniel Craig (Watch Casino Royale).
For Green Lanturn it would be best to use the famous GL, Hal Jordan.
GL, Hal Jordan: Josh Lucas (Stealth).
GL, John Stewart: Dwane "the Rock" Johnson don't laugh he can pull it off.
For the Flash again they should use Barry Allen.
Flash, Barry Allen: Paul Walker
Flash, Wally West: Ryan Reynolds
Martian Manhunter: Vin Diesel (He has the entire package. Look and Voice).
Lastly for the Villain
Maxwell Lord: John Malkovich

Snapper Carr Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 10:03 PM EST

Oh, and Kate Beckinsale? Great choice for WW attitude-wise, but she's just too short and British looking. Need a tall, buff Mediterranean-looking goddess to fill WW's tights. Maybe someone like Lena Headley from "300," though more Greek or Italian looking.

Snapper Carr Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 09:57 PM EST

OK, so the posts here seem to breakdown like this: a) those who want MTV-hype casting (Tyrese? Jessica Biel/Alba? Megan Fox? Really?); b) those who actually think somebody like Brad Pitt would really give a thought to playing a superhero in an ensemble cast; c) and those who actually are trying to come up with reasonable choices for the characters they would portray.

Can we just take a breath and realize the WB suits are poised to screw the fans again? Happens with Marvel properties all the time (Punisher, FF, Ghost Rider?),and WB did SUCH a great job choosing that stiff Routh. They can't get a WW script finalized to save their lives. The only saving grace is Bale's Batman hated Keaton). Without realistic casting and a decent script, this thing is going to be really, really bad. That said, there are some really good suggestions listed here, such as Gerard Butler, Eric Bana, Ryan Ryenolds, Jennifer Connelly. Names, but not too big. *sigh* Only hope WB doesn't blow this chance.

Brian Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 08:22 PM EST

Batman - Bale, No questions he is by far the best batman to date.
Superman - Routh or smallville guy, bother fit the part are established supermans.
Wonderwoman - Kate Beckinsale, looks the part already and she has background to pull it off.
Green Lantern - 1) Use hal jordan, its VERY clear john stewart they are not trying to make a good movie but appease a minority. If you want to make money ais why you are in show business you take what is clearly the most popular and run with it. Hal jordan, Eric Bana
Martian Man Hunter - Liam Neeson, Big actor, Big Voice, Might just need a bit of work.
Flash - Ryan Ryenolds , Im not thinking an explanation is needed here.
Aquaman - Tom Jane, hes big enough and hes a very talented actor. I could see a lot of aquaman, thats a really changable part.
Hawkgirl - (LOL) Go with a nameless, I really cant think of anyone who has the right stature off hand.

Rule #1 Equal time to all members. If you blow this movie the batman and superman movies to come.

mack Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 08:19 PM EST

i would be happy if Christian Bale and Brandon Routh could come back as superman and batman i mean come on

Dan Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 08:17 PM EST

The only logical choice for Wonder Woman is....JULIE STRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Radioflyer Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 07:39 PM EST

I think a good cast for Justice League would be.

Superman- Adian Pasdar
Batman- Vin Disel
Green Lantern- Will Smith
Flash- Shia LaBeouf
Aquaman- Paul Walker
Wonder Woman- Jessica Biel
Martian Manhunter- Leonard Roberts

These actors would pass for the super heroes. But you have to wonder who will get the parts

rich Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 04:02 PM EST

im going for a younger/b-list cast. im also naming characters provided by the recent EW edition.

superman: Tom Welling (Routh isn't gonna happen, and Welling has his own strong following. I honostly cant think of anyone I'd prefer over Routh)

batman: Karl Urban (good action star, dark and brooding)

wonder woman: Megan Fox (beautiful girl, emerging starlet. gets kudos for Transformers)

green lantern: Chewetl Ejiofer (sp?) (can play an intellectual very well. great/tough actor in his own right)

flash: Ryan Reynolds (perfect choice)

martian manhunter: Djimoun Hounsou (sp?) (can master that deep, perfect voice. a masterful actor)

aquaman: Nathan Fillion (smarmy, can get the right anti-hero feel. hell, he could propably fit any part in this movie)

hawkgirl: Milla Jovovich (volatile attitude, no stranger to action)

maxwell lord: Ron Perlman (not to clear on this character honostly, but Perlman should get a part here. he fits these genres well.)

Some of you guys are way off your mark picking actors either too old or can't act! I can't believe not 1 person came up with the names WILL SMITH, ROGER CROSS , or JERI RYAN.
Later I will elaborate on my choices and some of the SUPERLAME ones!Come people!! DENNIS HAYSBERT would only fit in the M M H role where there is a lot and I mean a LOT of makeup involved for someone OVER 50!!!!

eagle eye Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 01:53 PM EST

The movie plot is straight from the comics, no the cartoon. With that in mind:

Superman = Tom Welling. It is time. After seven years of media saturation, an entire generation believes he is Superman. The public will eat it up.
Batman = Eric Bana. He's got comic geek cred. The fanboys will go easy on him.
Wonder Woman = The ever popular "Unknown Actress". This is the role everyone will complain about.
Flash = Zac Efron. He'll deliver the pre-teen demo. Girls 9 to 12 watch the same movies repeatedly in first run.
GL = Tyrese. He'll put young "urban" asses in seats and is at least a so-so performer.

kae duke Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 09:40 AM EST

Here's my cast

Batman.... Liev Schreiber or Gearld Bulter

Superman... Brandon Routh

Flash/Wally West... Ryan Reynolds

Green Lantern/John Stewart....Tyress Gibson

HawkGirl.... Kate Mara

Green Arrow..... Justin Hartley

Wonder Women.... Victoria Hill

Martian Manhunter.... Djimon Hounson

mememe Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 09:28 AM EST

Someone said a while back that they are following the cartoon network JLA version... is that true? If so that would greatly influence that casting choices. They would all need to skew a little older except Wally and Hawkgirl. And that also means tat Green Lantern/Hawkgirl and Batman/Wonder Woman need to have chemistry. Interesting.

On teh other hand, if that's true, why were they talking to JESSICA BEIL? Unless it was for Hawkgirl and not Wonder Woman.

messi Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 08:41 AM EST

GT ---- Welling doesn't have name recognition but then you say Routh should do it???? What??? Routh wasn't anyone before Superman Returns so your argument makes no sense. You think the general public cares? Bale didn't have name recognition either, at least to the general public, so your argument again makes no sense. the only one who cares about names are housewives who read celebrity magazines but never actually see movies.

AliG Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 04:14 AM EST

TOM WELLING!!! He's superman all the way! ALLISON MACK can play Lois Lane! She'd be great at it!

Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 02:14 AM EST

What is with the Brandon Routh followers? Did you people actually SEE Superman Returns? WOW. Tom Welling IS Superman. A definite NO on Jessica Beil- find an unknown actress.

Kristen Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 02:01 AM EST

Ok...

Superman: Tom Welling- he had C.Reeves' blessing on Smallville so stop the wimp talk

Aquaman: Paul Walker works or it could be a new face

Batman: James Franco- he can def. play the smart brooding billionaire

Green Arrow: Why not Justin Hartley? He plays a mean Oliver Queen on SV.

Wonder Woman: Let's see... how about the girl from the 300... she could kick some ass!

Flash: Shia LaBoeuf- I mean why not? He's got the quirky personality, and yes he's young, but why not?

G.L.: A fresh face
M.M.: undecided... someone good though

Aaron Duckett Mon, Oct 1, 2007 at 01:14 AM EST

superman- Patrick Warburton
batman- gerard butler minus the accent
wonderwoman- angelina jolie
flash- James Marsden
aquaman- paul walker, guy pearce or brad pit.
green lantern- jaime foxx
martian man hunter- Ron Perlman
Another intersting direction i think wb should explore is to make the whole movie 3d animated with the characters based on the work of alex ross. Especially if they dont want to use the same actors in the individual movies.

Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 11:59 PM EST

I personally feel that it will be tough to cast every character perfectly, but they need to get the essence of the character down. For example Bale understood batman so even if he did not look like a Bruce Wayne that you pictured he played the part. Brandon Routh might have looked like Superman but he missed the charisma that I felt Reeves and Dean Cain had. That being said Wonder Woman needs to be exotic (she is influenced by Greek mythology) strong, tall and has a presence. So Mary Elisabeth Winsted might not have the facial features to play the role but she has the essence of the character and her internal strength can get you to over look the physical deficit. Flash is serious and silly, he has fun while saving the world. I think it would be awesome if they had nightwing in the movie because there might not be a more entertaining team up in comics than flash and nightwing. Hal Jordan is the ultimate cop, a combination of Batman and Superman, a boy scout with an edge.

Jim Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 11:43 PM EST

Batman: Christian Bale dont mess with it people hes a badass batman

Superman- Same guy from Returns or the guy from smallville once again dont bring new people in its not going to run smoothly

Flash- Ryan Reynolds without a doubt hands down

Martian Manhunter: Someone with a very impressive voice Laurence Fishburn would be fine

Wonder Woman- Kate Beckinsale would be good she can be tough and bad ass

Green Lantern: Forget John Stewart he is a lame character only created for Politically Correct Purposes use Hal Jordan and get Guy Peirce

Hawk Girl: Jessica Beil or Lucy Lawless

Aqua Man: Someone blonde and buff and has somewhat of a passion for comics not sure who at this time

Important notice give everyone plenty of screen time dont just focus on batman and superman and dont cast different people its going to take away from their newly established franchises. Christian Bale is Batman now people dont mess with it its not going to run smoothly

ralph Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 11:40 PM EST

First thing we need to know is if they are going to make a PC JLA, (hawkgirl and John Stewart as GL) or is it going to be traditional (Hal Jordan as GL, Black Canary as another female and Hawkman if they want a character like this). I personally vote for no aquaman but that is me, because his powers are talking to fist and swimming real fast. He is not a superhero. Hal Jordan should be GL because he brings so much to the role, read the comics he is the best. If there is going to be Hal, batman and Superman you need comic relief character so wally west would be the best choice of the flashes even though Barry allen was the flash when the JLA formed in the comics. I also think you would need another foil to the 3 serious characters and that would be Green Arrow and Black Canary would then be in there for the love interest angle. Since WW is the other female and there is no love interest with her and the other men.

shasha Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 11:24 PM EST

Jamie Bamber for Hal Jordan

keeping it real Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 11:18 PM EST

Superman - Tom Welling
Batman - Jim Cavizel (sp?)
Wonder Woman - Unknown Aussie actress
GL - Tyrese
Flash - Shia LaBeouf! lol. He must appear in everything.
Auquaman - Paul Walker

Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 10:34 PM EST

Bernard - I have read the JLA comics since the mid 1970s and am familiar with how things are done with the series. In most of the incarnations the main super heroes have always been a more mature version of the characters. The characters of Green Lantern and Green Arrow rank as my favorites. Even in many of the double issue version through the 80s and 90s the characters have held to this trend. If the casting goes younger you are going to be looking at really bad version of The Fantastic Four which made no sense and made Invisible Woman a Jessica Alba rather than a more mature and strong lead. Awareness of the inspiration on my part is clear as a fan beyond just casting someone because they played the younger character on tv. And again my understanding here is taht the JLA movie is being cast from the cartoon show perspective.

Jay Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 10:28 PM EST

Superman - the guy who plays Dexter on Showtime
Batman - Guy Pearce (although he may be a little old)
Wonder Woman - Jessica Alba
Green Lantern - Common
Flash - Ryan Reynolds
Hawk Girl - Eliza Dushku
Martian Manhunter - Laurence Fishburne

Robyn Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 10:00 PM EST

Tom Welling has done the best job of playing Superman since Chris Reeve - even though he's never donned the tights and cape. Brandon Routh just doesn't have it or the last movie would have done better. HE is more the Clark Kent type - Welling would make a better Superman.

Luke Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 08:03 PM EST

Green Lantern-Jamie Fox
Superman-Steven Strait
Wonder Woman-Michelle Ryan

amonarch Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 07:52 PM EST

Superman= tom welling, no question! He will draw in the smallville crowd and he is so bleeping beautiful that he will surely draw in lots of ladies too!
Batman= David Boreanaz, saw people mentioning it. GREAT idea. He would totally work. Actually he could work for most of the parts really.
Aquaman= Paul Walker, also saw people mentioning him, also GREAT idea. He has the hang out by the beach sorta look and he is built.
Wonderwoman= Kate Beckinsale(?sp), she is hot and looks the part. and we all know she can kick ass(ex: Underworld) orrrrr...maybe sarah michelle gellar also an ass kicker

I think we need big names or at least actors that have been in similar roles because people will want to see that.

indeedy do Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 06:02 PM EST

Since Welling's Smallville contract is with WB, moving him over to the movie side of things ain't that hard, IMHO. Which is why I'm starting to get the feeling that it'll happen just that way. Lots of rumours swimming through that big old internet sea, but when they all start to converge - something is up.

chelcie rice Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 04:34 PM EST

But on the other hand...bigger stars mean bigger budgets. In all honesty...I think this JLA movie is a really bad idea. It's going to go through Superman/Batman style casting wars plus they are trying to rush production to beat a possible strike. WB is making a mistake.

superwilly Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 04:34 PM EST

Green Lantern should be played by CSI's Gary Dourdan.
How about Heroes Ali Larter or Jennifer Esposito for Hawkgirl.
Anglina Jolie would make an exotic Wonder Woman.
Tom Welling gets my vote for Superman.
I agree, Paul Walker is perfect for Aquaman.
Ryan Reynolds is a natural choice for The Flash.
Christian Bale is the perfect Batman, But if not him ... then how about
Clive Owen.

Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 03:14 PM EST

superman Tom Welling

alk Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 03:09 PM EST

Batman: Robert Iler (The Sopranos)
Superman: Casey Affleck (Ocean's Eleven)
Wonder Woman: Elisha Cuthbert (24)
Aquaman: Adrian Grenier (Fake Aquaman on Entourage). Come on, he'd be great.
Green Lantern: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost) He'd be so badass.
The Flash: Jake Gyllenhaal
John Stewart: Jon Stewart (:
And the villain in the movie should be played by Malcolm McDowell.

Gina Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 02:53 PM EST

Tom Welling is in contract with Smallville thru the 8th season so unless they shoot it around his schedule, he wont be putting on the tights.

I think Shawn Ashmore (Xmen as Iceman) would make a good Flash. He has the young wit that the character would need.

josh Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 02:53 PM EST

Martian Manhunter - Anyone big with a deep voice would work, but how about Micheal Clark Duncan?

Lobo - Ugly. Mean. Smart mouthed. Any ideas? Trying to think of the younger crowd, but all I keep coming up with is Sid Haig from Devils rejects.

josh Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 02:37 PM EST

Superman - Tom Welling works, but he's more Clark than Supes, and probably can't get out of his TV deal for a movie. So then I'd go with Routh. He did a good job. But that probably won't happen either. Sooo, I'm thinking......

Batman - Ryan Reynolds, no contest and don't argue. Grating voice. Badass. Attitude.

Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) - David Boreanaz - knows how to pull off being a good guy with an attitude
~
(Jon Stewart) - Mekhi Pfieffer
Serious actor, like the character

Flash - Ryan Gosling, smart witty. Well rounded actor. I think this is a good call

Wonder Woman - Morena Baccarin, typecast, and a good actress as well

Hawgirl - This one could go a million ways. Good door for an unknown. But since we're naming celebrities.... Eva Mendez? Am I alone here?

Aquaman - Well, I'm not going to lie. Not one of my favorite superhero
s here, but he would still definitely have to be in the movie, or a lot of people would be upset. I suggest Paul Walker. He'd do it.

Yeaaahhh! Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 01:42 PM EST

no never ever ever ever i don't what this to screw up the lasdt part of Chris Nolan's Batman

Willie Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 11:59 AM EST

Batman=David Boreanaz (thought he was a better choice than Christian Bale, still do)

Superman=Brendan Fraser (he could sell this, he just lacks the confidence)

Wonder Woman=Lisa Marie Varon(better known to us wrestling fans as Victoria in the W.W.E.)

Aquaman=? (really don't know who to pick for this one)

Flash=Brad Pitt/Brett Harrison (Pitt if they use Barry Allen; Harrison if they use Wally West)

Green Lantern=Keanu Reeves/Morris Chestnut (Reeves as Kyle Rayner; Chestnut as John Stewart)

Martian Manhunter=Shaquille O'Neal (yeah, yeah, yeah…but if this has a really strong director who can rein Shaq in, I think he can work)

chelcie rice Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 10:42 AM EST

Here's an idea...STOP CASTING TV STARS!!! They cast sell tickets. if you want to see this movie go straight to DVD then yeah...cast some of these tv stars. Taye Diggs? Too short. Weslay Snipes? Maybe...he needs the money. Now Vin Diesel or michael Clarke Duncan as martian manhunter? Not bad. Then again they could CGI the character like they did Silver Surfer and add the voice of Keith David. Priceless. And that Smallville JLA was wrong. Cyborg was not a member of the JLA

Bernard Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 10:21 AM EST

Sean, as one of the people who picked Tom Welling, I think it's kind of telling that you don't know that The Justice League cartoon isn't the be all and end all of the JL. In fact, the comics are a far more important source than the cartoon (and the most recent version from the Cartoon Network at that, not just the seemingly dozens of other animated versions of the JL). Warner Bros. is clearly looking for it's own superhero team movie franchise to rival Fox's X-Men, not simply spin off the recent cartoons. SO in that regard, with so many incarnations to choose from, casting is up for grabs. And Tom Welling is an excellent choice for the feature version should the film go with a younger cast, not only because of Smallville. And in my perfect world, Warner's would draw inspiration from Alex Ross' Silver Age homages to the Justice League, which are magnificent. So, Sean, go beyond the cartoon and pick up Alex Ross' "KINGDOM COME" or "JUSTICE" to see the League in a whole new light.

Pat Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 10:10 AM EST

Superman-Tom Welling ( there is NO other)
Green Lantern-Wesley Snipes
Wonder Woman-Bianca Beauchamp ( Wonder NO more, SHE IS IT!!!)
Batman-Gerard Butler (Batman NEVER looked this AWESOME)
Flash-Ryan Renolds (Just ask "THE GAME" Triple H, this is one tough SOB)

Sean Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 07:01 AM EST

It's like many of the people on teh board have NEVER seen the JLA cartoon here... especially the Tom Welling people. Just because a person plays a character on another show doesn't mean they are right for a part. The JLA cartoon casts all but Hawkgirl as people in their late 30s maybe 40s in maturity. Anyone 30 and under especially those actors who play younger characters than their own age would be laughable casting. And it apprears my inner nerd yes has come out.

I think Indira Varma, the actress that played the wife of Lucius Vorenus on Rome, would be good as Wonder Woman. She's got the classic beauty and regal air of a greek amazon princess. Plus, she can act.

I know there is an age range, but this is my dream cast.
Superman--Nathan Fillion (charismatic and in search of a star vehicle)
Batman--Gerard Butler (proved he could do the man in a mask thing well in "Phantom of the Opera")
Wonder Woman--Angelina Jolie (the most exotic actress out there--a decent younger choice would be Megan Fox of Transformers)
Flash--Zac Efron (kind of how I picture the Flash--all-American and kind of dense looking)
Martian Manhunter--Denzel Washington (again, a little old, but this character needs the gravitas that Washington would provide.

LOOK people, most of u r so wrong, about Wonder Woman anyway. You're choosing all these actresses based on popularity and not on...Wonder Woman. She should be at least 6ft tall which eliminates most of your choices. She should be extremely beautiful which eliminates most to all your choices. Some of these actresses are "cute" or "pretty" but beautiful...get real! Bottom line, the actress should look like Catherine zeta-jones, muscular like Lucy Lawless (Xena), tall like Lynda Carter, and can act.

I would rather cast the Injustice Gang. Luthor-Michael Rosembloom, Cheetah-Jessica Biel, Parasite-Henry Simmons, Scarecrow-Cillian Murphy, Fatality-Gabrielle Union, Dr. Light-Jonathon Gries and Joker, who wouldn't be invited but has to stick his two cents in-Michael Emerson who is the creepiest character on television.

PS on Welling. To the producers of Smallville, if JLA starts shooting next year, season 7 will be over by then. Then, when post production is done on the film and released summer of 09, Welling will have finished his commitment through season 8 that May. Movie comes out July 4th, and we get Welling's complete turn from Clark to Superman with no wait!! Works, right? Also, Dennis Haysbert as GL works to.
