"And I am telling you: Shut up, and buy the damn shoes!"

Hudson_l Jennifer Hudson (pictured) has signed on to Sex and the City: The Movie to play Carrie's assistant. It'll be the third supporting role for the Dreamgirls songbird; she's just finished filming Winged Creatures with Forest Whitaker and Kate Beckinsale.

Aww, that's cute. And yet. While I realize she was jobless at the end of the series and could therefore take on a myriad of careers (publisher, president of a Fortune 500 company, hooker), since when does Carrie Bradshaw need an assistant? What will J-Hud do? Put her computer to sleep? Shop for sexy "Look, I'm writing" lingerie? I'm hoping her main duty will involve the singing of Carrie's prose to the audience. (Bonus points for extra-crescendos-applied-to- the-most-cliched-lines!) Hudson's first album is scheduled to be released in early 2008, but hold your breath for the hit single, "I Couldn't Help But Wonder," to to drop on SATC's soundtrack.

This role in SATC will probably portray her as sassy and sarcastic, a part we've seen sooo much in movies. I don't know how good an actress she truly is, because Dreamgirls was mainly singing, which she did on Idol, and I don't think relegating her to supporting roles will prove her talent.

NOT excited at all....seems like just a way to interject an actress who is moderatly hot now....keep the same cast as on tv if you have to make the movie...

I think Jennifer is choosing some good film projects post "Dreamgirls." She knows she's never gonna get another role as good as Effie right now, so playing Forest Whittaker's daughter (in "Winged Creatures") or SJP's assistant is as good as gets. I can't wait to see her in both. Also, none of her projects smacks with "best black friend" syndrome, so that observation is simply baseless.

Maybe in the movie, Carrie has an actual high-powered job that pays the kind of money she would need to live in Manhattan and buy all those shoes and cosmos... hence the assistant.

Anyway, I loved SATC but will never, ever watch the movie. Frankly I'd just prefer to rewatch the episodes.

I am a huge SATC fan, but this is the Worst decision ever... even worst than deciding to make this movie...

You forgot the chart-topper "Meanwhile...Downtown..."

Besides "I couldn't help but wonder", her other future hits might include "And just like that" "And as for me" and "In a city like New York".

Carrie Bradshaw Tue, Sep 11, 2007 at 08:02 PM EST

There are times in life when we're proud to be modern women and show off our ability to "do it all" ourselves. We flaunt our ability to run a successful p.r. firm, tend to a fabulous Park Avenue home, balance the completely opposite jobs of being an attorney and a mother, or write a new best selling book - all while trying to pick out the perfect pair of shoes for tonight's date. However, we sometimes wonder if it is defiant of our modern female nature to just ask for a little help. How many pairs of shoes do we have to juggle before needing someone to assist us? After having one too many tasks to complete in a single New York City day, I could no longer decide which cosmo to order while out with my girlfriends. That's when I decided to hire an assistant to assist me with the assistance that I needed...

Oh my god, I can't wait to see J-Hud on the Sex and the City movie! I bet "Big" or "John" isn't going to come into the movie until the very end. Carrie needs to go through some stuff before

Maybe the SATC producers were looking to give the movie some credibility by having an "Oscar-winning actress" in it. Don't get me wrong, I loved the series. But it's been 3 years already; I've gotten over wanting to know what happens next.

Stephen Tue, Sep 11, 2007 at 05:24 PM EST

Wow I guess Hudson's career will consist of playing the "BBF," best black friend. (I'm not racist, that article was on cnn.com.). I hope she finds better roles.

I'm so excited! Do your thang! She's just the invegorating Miss Thang this movie needed for me to attend! Love ya Jhud!
