Your dream TV-show marathon?

Sep 13, 2007, 07:11 PM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: 'America's Next Top Model', Television

Natasha_l I'm gonna go with America's Next Top Model, which thinks it's going to suck me in again this weekend and... it probably will. Cycle eight (featuring Natasha, pictured) starts at noon Saturday on VH1. You've been warned.

Your vote?

My dream marathon is a showing of the entire season 1 of Veronica Mars. It's the reason God allowed for the invention of DVDs. As far as lighter fare, my friends and I never pass up Will and Grace or That 70's Show marathons on the weekends.

The Other Rose Sun, Sep 16, 2007 at 10:30 AM EST

So I guess it's not really a marathon but I watch the Gilmore Girls repeats on ABC Family every night. I've prolly seen every one dozens of times but they never get old. The dialogue remains fresh.

Alyson Peery Sat, Sep 15, 2007 at 10:43 PM EST

My So-Called Life, for real. Top MOdel usually gets me, but I hated Cycle Eight, so this weekend I settled for a little Top Chef instead. But what I wouldn't give to see Rayanne's crazy party all the way to Rickie's Christmas troubles.

Beth Sat, Sep 15, 2007 at 09:08 PM EST

Whatever happened to the West Wing in syndication? A marathon on Bravo would be great. I love Arrested Development and the Office, but I think both shows are significantly diminishes with commercials, so I'll save those marathons for whenever I pop in a dvd. I miss Wings... a TV land marathon of that would also be good.

Mike Sat, Sep 15, 2007 at 11:15 AM EST

I'm probably going to overstate the "deepness" of Lost here. But I don't think the show marathons well because you need some time to think about the previous episode and anticipate the next one. Personally, I need to listen to one of the great Lost podcasts, like Lostcasts, to really savor the series.
(Realizing I'm talking about a fictional TV show made by a bunch of guys who read too much sci-fi and comics while people my age are fighting in Iraq.)

Pround Parent of a Bumper Sticker Maker Sat, Sep 15, 2007 at 11:10 AM EST

In '93 or '94, I was 13 and got grounded but somehow retained video store privileges. On a whim I picked up the first VHS tape of Twin Peaks and was immediately hooked. It was a TV-on-DVD marathon before DVD.

I watched the entire Buffy series on DVD this summer, and it, overall, was wonderful.

The greatest TV-on-DVD marathon would probably be the first season of Veronica Mars. I watched and enjoyed the subsequent seasons, but the great plot developments built into the VM concept all played out in season one.

P.S. Gilmore Girls is un-martathon-able because Lorelai (and sometimes Rory) is unbearable in concentrated doses.

Coach's Mistress Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 04:05 PM EST

Oooooh! Kids in the Hall marathon would be fantastic! I miss those guys (gals).

JJ Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 03:49 PM EST

I can't believe no one's said SIX FEET UNDER. So there, I said it.

SIX. FEET. UNDER.

Runners-up: Lost, Gilmore Girls, Felicity, the Office (get out of my offive!)

p.s. - ANTM can eat a big bag of d!

Amanda Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 03:38 PM EST

Head of the Class. I cannot get enough of Simone and Eric. Not to mention - who can resist battling the Russians in the annual Brain Brawl.

Rachel K Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 03:35 PM EST

I have to say The West Wing, hands down is the best to watch marthon style. Second and third choice, Firefly and then 24.

elle Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 02:54 PM EST

Felicity! Pleeeease!

Winona Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 02:51 PM EST

Kids in the Hall, My So-Called Life or Scrubs (but only the ones with Ted's band).

akaldy Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 02:01 PM EST

The new Dr Who and Veronica Mars with som Footballers Wives foe spice.

mikey Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 01:39 PM EST

Nowadays any marathon from the Flavor of Love family of shows will hook me and I've also found myself watching entire seasons of Cowboy U in a single sitting. But what I really miss are the Beavis and Butthead moron-o-thons. The DVDs don't cut it because they lack the music videos and associated commentary.

Coach's Mistress Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 01:33 PM EST

I want to relive the Saturday nights of my youth...we need a marathon of Love Boat and Fantasy Island, with a lead-in of Dance Fever.

Suz Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 01:18 PM EST

Every weekend ANTM gets me. My husband even watches it now. An Arrested Developement marathon would be awesome even though I own all the DVD's. It used to be on G4 quite a bit; I don't see as many marathons lately. Also, Roseanne,Freaks and Geeks, some Old Skool RW/RR challenges

Dop Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:54 PM EST

I agree with Rese on everything except Gilmore Girls. That show is stupid.

Also, Arrested Development. Why are all the greats cut down in their prime???

Rese Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:36 PM EST

I pretty much get sucked into any Bravo TV marathon especially Top Chef and Project Runway. ANTM is getting tedious to watch as I have seen each cycle at least twice (thanks MTV). My dream marathons are:
BH 90210 Seasons 1-4
Gilmore Girls Seasons 2 & 3
My So Called Life
Freaks & Geeks (Just Netflixed and fell in love with)
Friends Seasons 2, 3, 5, 10
Any MTV Real World, Road Rules or Challenge.. love them all

HD Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:29 PM EST

I had never watched ANTM but I turned on MTV last Sunday morning because I thought they might be previewing the VMA's. I started watching ANTM and was instantly hooked. I will be watching the ANTM marathon on VH-1 tomorrow. My other dream TV show marathon would be a "Becker" marathon.

Tobye Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:11 PM EST

I've been watching Beverly Hills 90210 on SoapNet for a while now. I'm almost through the cycle!

trc Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:10 PM EST

I gotta agree on ANTM. I get sucked in whenever a marathon is on MTV or VH1. I would also agree on Arrested Development, The Office, Top Chef, Project Runway, Friends and Sex & the City.

SuperTrooper Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 11:57 AM EST

BUFFY!!!!!!!!

Sarah Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 11:28 AM EST

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I've just started buying the DVDs. I love that show!

Coleen Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 11:27 AM EST

Deadwood, c*cksuc*ers!

David, Arlington, VA Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 11:12 AM EST

Oh man, I'm cheating, because there is absolutely no way I can limit myself to just one, so here goes: Seinfeld, Arrested Development, The Simpsons, South Park, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Ugly Betty, Sex and the City, Friends, Will and Grace, Lost, 24, The West Wing, The Sopranos, Queer as Folk, The Real World, Project Runway, and with all those I'm probably still forgetting some.
Um, yeah, I like TV...

Snooks Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 10:47 AM EST

Oops, I would be all over any marathon of Weeds or Kitchen Confidential too...

Snooks Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 10:46 AM EST

I always get sucked into Mtv Reality crap but I would love love love to see:

*First season of Road Rules Marathon (even possibly the 2nd season)
*One of the first challenges - Mtv Real World Road Rules Battle of the Seasons or the first Road Rules Challenge .. hilarious

Go Jennifer...would love to see 1st few seasons of Life Goes On

And finally, House Hunters on HGTV, Feasting on Asphalt or Iron Chef America on Food TV

Ep Sato Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 10:19 AM EST

How about the Simpsons? It's in syndication everywhere (locally in DC it's on I think 2x a day), so it surprises me that no one's done a "dia de los Simpsons". Imagine, 24 hours and 48 of their best episodes. My heart throbs (and my eyes bleed) just thinking about it.

matchkitjohn Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 10:13 AM EST

L&O Orbach years + the Greene/Fontana year. Dennis Farina was great.

TobiasGIlmoreBaxter Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 10:11 AM EST

How about a mixture of Arrested Development, That's so Raven, & Gilmore Girls?

Ginger Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 09:57 AM EST

I love ANTM but would like to see a show about where are they now...Natasha...Joanie...Niki...and others that almost won.

Jennifer Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 09:52 AM EST

I am a sucker for all of these:
1. Good Times (only the episodes before James dies and 1 episode after he dies that I watch is the one when Willona's ex-husband, Ray, comes to town. If you watch it, you know the episode I'm talking about...)
2.ANTM: MTV & VH1
3.Rock of Love-Vh1 (I think a marathon should be coming up soon since the finale is almost coming!!)
4. The Hills
My Marathon Wish List:
1. Life Goes On
2. Once and Again( I own the first 2 seasons so this one is not as important)
3.My So Called Life

Kari Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 09:45 AM EST

Lately, I've been craving a little Parker Lewis Can't Lose. I LOVED that show in high school, and I'd really like to see how it plays now. And I think it'd be an excellent early 90's timecapsule.

Torin Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 09:43 AM EST

I'd have to go with 30 Rock. After seeing the entire first season on NBC, I've also seen it twice at nbc.com. I can't get enough of that show. Beep Beep Ribby Ribby!

Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 09:35 AM EST

I would gladly sit down to watch some old WKRP in Cincinnati. I'm always up for Battlestar Galactica.

noname Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 09:13 AM EST

I used to live for the Quantum Leap marathons on SciFi when I worked from home.

E-Z-E Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:57 AM EST

Props to Sean and Sara for "Firefly." In addition, I would happily sequester myself for 2 days to see all 3 seasons of the new "Doctor Who" series!

Tawny Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:55 AM EST

Veronica Mars. (was) The Best show on Television. Then unceremoniously cancelled. argh!

Goob Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:52 AM EST

How about something that isn't out on DVD? Thirtysomething or Homefront would be my top picks!

Susan Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:51 AM EST

Man from U.N.C.L.E.--absolute classic TV
and THE CLASS--I missed a few episodes and it is really very funny

Katya Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:38 AM EST

Petticoat Junction, Ed, Wonderfalls...
Oh, a show that's on the air now? Lost or The Office

coco Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:33 AM EST

i miss those days...ever since i moved in with my boyfriend my days are limited to sports...i'm fighting for that Tivo though! help!

Lynny Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:33 AM EST

The Real World - New York - The first one and still the best one.

Vivi Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:26 AM EST

I am a complete hostage when it comes to the following:

ANTM: esp. Cycle 3, 6 & 8
Project Runway: Season 3 is the best
Run's House

My dream marathons would be:

Lost
Real World: Boston, New Orleans, Back 2 NY, San Diego
Wade Robson Show
Sypder Games

Auriana Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:22 AM EST

Voltron! Or perhaps Hercules or the first few seasons of Xena (got a bit too crazy toward the end for my tastes)...I miss those shows.

Gretchen Weiners Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 08:02 AM EST

ANTM, ProjRun (which was on yesterday, BTW), and Top Chef. I waste entire days with them.

Sara Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 07:40 AM EST

Yep, I watch ANTM marathons too. I missed the early seasons, so it's fun to be able to go back and check them out. The show descriptions are always off by one show, though! I forget if the description for one episode is actually the description of the earlier or later episode, but it's annoying. And a lot of the time, VH1 (I think) omits the second-to-last episode, so you go from 2 contestants to four.
*
I also watch most of TLC's home improvement lineup on the weekends. "You have a $10,000 budget, a four-week timeline, and you want marble countertops? Mmmmmkay!"
*
As for marathons I'd like to see... Arrested Development, Firefly, House... Golden Girls, Designing Women...

BLM Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 07:33 AM EST

Ugh, every freakin' weekend I end up watching an America's Next Top Model marathon on MTV (No, I'm not a loser; just pregnant). My husband can't comprehend how I can watch the same cycles over and over and over again. It's just great entertainment.

snarky Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 06:43 AM EST

I love Project Runway!!! I really missed it this summer - Top Chef is not as good.

My nominee for marathon is The Sarah Silverman Show. I need more cookie party in my life. Also, I miss Doug the Dog

Cece Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 06:38 AM EST

I live for the Top Model Marathons every weekend. Be it MTV or VH1, I can't get enough. Like on Sex and the City, it's part of my sexy single behavior. I curl up on the couch with a box of Cheez-its and watch the show.

The two other marathons that I absolutely love: The three-hour Scrubs marathon on Comedy Central and the once-a-month Good Times marathon on TV Land. Sure, I have all of the Scrubs DVDs, but sometimes Comedy Central has a theme with theirs. And Good Times, I didn't watch it as much when I was a kid as I did when I got older. Now I wait for it every month.
Top Model, Scrubs and Good Times. There's nothing like it.

Mr. Williams Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 06:32 AM EST

My dream TV-show marathons would be "The Wild, Wild, West", "Mission: Impossible", "The Six Million Dollar Man", "Land of the Lost", and the classic Hanna Barbara cartoon series - "The Superfriends". Wonder Twin Powers . . . Activate!!! Didn't you just love that???

Brandon Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 06:30 AM EST

Once and Again. All the way.

Tracie Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 05:43 AM EST

On Labor Day my husband & I got sucked into a "Rock of Love" marathon. God help us...

Tuzo Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 02:00 AM EST

The Prisoner!

JP Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 01:16 AM EST

I wish they'd have a Friday Night Lights marathon. I keep hearing what a great show it is, and I'd like to get caught up before season 2.

jay Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:51 AM EST

Buffy

Mark Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:45 AM EST

Project Runway for sure!!! I can't get enough of that show.

ladyli1 Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:25 AM EST

profit would be KILLER!!!!

ladyli1 Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:24 AM EST

profit would be KILLER!!!!

Ben Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 12:23 AM EST

Flava of Love...my roomie and I got no work done when MuchMoreMusic (in Canada) had a full day marathon.

t3hdow Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 11:57 PM EST

I've seen all kinds of marathons from Fresh Prince to 24 to Law and Order (usually the original or SVU). ANTM would be my choice, however. I have to give props for Fox Reality for showing Hell's Kitchen's first season before the third one debuted. I never did get to see it from beginning to end.

Kurt Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 11:51 PM EST

An 'Alias' marathon would be great, but really any show like it that builds on its self so much would be good marathon material (like Lost, Battlestar Galactica, X-Files).

Rae Rae Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 11:21 PM EST

I would have to agree with you, America's Next Top Model ALWAYS sucks me in. It in unavoidable. Project Runaway makes a pretty close second though.

yeti Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 11:18 PM EST

haha i watched at ANTM marathon this past weekend for the first time... and i went on to watch again last night (different season though)! I agree with Lindsay - the show is not even that great, just strangely compelling...
but other shows i can do as a marathon include AD, the office, the cosby show, the oc, friday night lights (i watched the entire first season in about seven days... during my finals week...) and probably some others. maybe i watch too much tv?

Snsetblaze Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 11:13 PM EST

Buffy and Angel, Battlestar Galactica, Aqua Teen Hunger Force (because I've recently gotten into it), Space Ghost and for a much older show, WKRP in Cincinnati.

tad Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 11:10 PM EST

Even though I have seen every episode of Golden Girls at least three times, I know that I would still sit through a marathon anytime it aired. That show is so hilarious no matter how many times you watch it. Other than that, definitely Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 24, Desperate Housewives, Project Runway or even Tiny Toon Adventures or Rocky and Bullwinkle. I'm such a huge TV addict so any marathon will suck me in unfortunately. That's how I discovered Ugly Betty and Top Chef!!

Emily Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 11:10 PM EST

The Office would be great. But I think the first three seasons of The West Wing would be my favorite.

Adam B. Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 11:06 PM EST

Real World Hawaii. (Make the next question harder.)

evie Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:54 PM EST

Rhoda and Facts of Life. Preferably alternating 2 Rhodas, 2 FoL.

crmtide Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:53 PM EST

The Wire...best show on TV hands down. Seasons 1-4 are must see TV

Maggie Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:49 PM EST

Titus. That show was so real and so incredibly funny, one of the best comedies ever IMHO. Such a shame that it only lasted three seasons.

Weezie Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:38 PM EST

The Real World Seasons 1-7 (1992-1998). I Loved that show in its hey day. Loved it!

Sean Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:38 PM EST

FIREFLY!

uge Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:35 PM EST

O.C. marathon, hands down.

Joe C Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:22 PM EST

Moonlighting. That was my fave show from the 80's.

Nik was Robbed! Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:19 PM EST

Definitely ANTM, which literally comes on EVERY weekend. I'm always watching hoping for a different outcome.

Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:18 PM EST

Battlestar Galactica easily. Battlestar has some of the best acting i have ever seen on TV, see Michael Hogan in any episode.

blue girl Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:13 PM EST

farscape....i miss that show so much. lost would be awesome too, it's so much better to watch these episodes in a row.

Todd Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 10:04 PM EST

Season 5 of The Shield

x302 Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:46 PM EST

I will agree with you BJ Battlestar!! all the way!!

Mary Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:42 PM EST

oops....meant "ultimately"

Mary Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:41 PM EST

I definitely agree with Aaron on the RW/RR Challenge. I never see the first episodes and I never know who untimately wins the thing, but I always seem to catch the "middle" episodes with no idea why this one is out to get that one and am totally lost, but I am sucked in anyway.

Kate Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:37 PM EST

I once sat through an entire weekend watching a Three's Company marathon. I'd like to see a Wonder Years Marathon.

C.A. Oliver Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:34 PM EST

Well, since this is a dream marathon, I want all six season of "Lost." Getting to watch the three upcoming seasons back-to-back without commercials or waiting would be the greatest geek-gasm ever.

sarah Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:29 PM EST

KATHY GRIFFIN MY LIFE ON THE D LIST!!!

...and ANTM...I never can remember who wins so it's like watching a new season every time.

skye Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:28 PM EST

I'm gonna go with three's company all the way. Even though, when I first started watching whn TV land did the all nite marathons, then nick @ nite the next day, and I think I've seen them all and then some

Vee Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:18 PM EST

I'm still bummed I missed the Pasadena marathon on SoapNet during Labor Day, especially since it's still not out on DVD, so I'm going to have to pick that.

Snarf Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:07 PM EST

Angel

RBlues Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:04 PM EST

Oh My Gosh! I give up!

bootsycolumbia Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 09:00 PM EST

RBlues: Weird is spelled weird, not wierd. For me, Lost would be my number 1 pick for a marathon. Also, I'd love a marathon of the old Mary Tyler Moore show, my absolute all-time favorite t.v. show.

The Real World Old School Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 08:57 PM EST

The Real World - London

I was a junior in high school when that came out. MTV, please release this on DVD!!!

stephen Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 08:50 PM EST

Also add "All in the Family" and "I Love Lucy" to my list when TV Land airs them. (Although not often enough). And yes, I enjoy "Flavor of Love" numerous episodes in a row.

stephen Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 08:50 PM EST

To Kim: Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 08:49 PM EST

Once I posted my "correction", it didn't look right to me either. It's just one of those wierd words that never look right (like wierd). Thanks for letting me know I was correct the first time.

RBlues

bj Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 08:45 PM EST

Battlestar, Veronica Mars, Office (american and British) Eureka, and and ............ Animaniacs

Kim Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 08:41 PM EST

(RBlues, you actually spelled "definitely" right the first time.)

ANTM is constantly in marathons. I've seen most seasons and actually never watched a stand-alone episode.

I agree with the poster who said "The Office." I'd also say "Freaks and Geeks" and "My So-Called Life."

chris Thu, Sep 13, 2007 at 08:37 PM EST

i'd love to watch a buffy marathon. yeah that'd be a couple of days, but how awesome would that be! also, a family guy marathon and a south park marathon would be so much fun
