Snap judgment: Jordin Sparks' 'Tattoo'

Aug 24, 2007, 06:31 PM | by Michael Slezak

Categories: 'American Idol', Music

Jordin_l American Idol's sixth season left a lot of folks feeling ambivalent, so I guess it should come as no great shock that its big winner, Jordin Sparks, is kicking off her post-Idol career with a shoulder-shrug of a single called "Tattoo" (now streaming at AOL Music).

It's not that "Tattoo" is a terrible song — not by any stretch. It's got a pretty little melody — I keep thinking "Irreplaceable," only with an extra cup of water added to the stock — and Jordin's vocal is surprisingly restrained (not a quality you necessarily expect early in an Idol champ's careeer).

That said, a couple things about "Tattoo" are bugging the heck out of me. What's that yelping business going on in the background? Did one of the Stargate guys (who, incidentally, also produced "Irreplaceable") grab a too-hot bag of popcorn out of the studio microwave while Jordin was cutting the vocal? And while I dig the central theme of Jordin striding into the sunset alone, telling her old flame that "you're on my heart just like a tattoo," when you really listen to the lyrics, they seem more a collection of attractive words than actual sentiments. For example, there's that line, "I can't waste time, so give it a moment." Um, if you can't waste time, then how is it you have a moment to give in the first place? And the truth is a stranger? Her soul is in danger? What the devil?

Anyway, P-Dubs, I'm curious what you think about "Tattoo." (Click here to hear it.) Our fabulous photo editor Samantha Harmon just popped into my office while I was playing it and declared, "It sounds like everything I've ever heard in my entire life." She may be right. I may be crazy. But it's really your opinions that we're looking for.

I have to admit that i hated the song when i first heard it but after a couple of listens, it grew on me. I realized that when I caught myself humming the melody in my head. For the critics that say they can't stand the "yelping," Are you guys over 40 years old or something? Newsflash, the younger generation like that kind of stuff. If you listen to whats on the radio right now, you'll find many songs that have odd sounds added to them. I thought it was a nice and helpful "addition" to the song. It made it more hip-hoppish even though it's pure pop. I'm a big jordin fan but I hope all her songs don't sound too kid-like and poppish like this.

Karen Fri, Sep 7, 2007 at 03:24 PM EST

I happen to like the song. Yes, it's like most pop songs. But what isn't?? I was reading a blog about this and the write really hit the nail on the head when he said "Some people dismissed the song because of the lyrics. How many songs in the history of pop music have lyrics that will stand up to scrutiny??" My guess not many if any. Some are looking for something to post negative about Jordin. Can't say she can't sing.

jm Tue, Sep 4, 2007 at 01:38 PM EST

Blah, just like the choice of the winner for the past two years. Elliot's single's MUCH better, and I'll bet Blake's will be as well. Leave it to the "also-ran's" to just want it that much more...

Nick Mon, Sep 3, 2007 at 07:13 PM EST

I agree with Michelle. For an Idol's first single, it's pretty good. Lets look at history: Daughtry's first song, Its Not Over(Just like every other boring pop-rock song), Yamin's Wait for you, Carrie's (Every other country song), They all end up (especially Yamin's) VERY BORING AND VERY TYPICAL. Yet they were all extremely successful. I LOVE Jordin, and I think her song blows them away in comparison.

Brooke Mon, Sep 3, 2007 at 03:16 AM EST

Absolutely horrific. I can't wait for Blake's single, it'll blow this one away for sure.

mark Sat, Sep 1, 2007 at 10:48 AM EST

THIS SONG IS AWESOME!!!

non-IDOL-watcher Fri, Aug 31, 2007 at 10:35 PM EST

Actually, I'm not even an idol fan but when the song debuted, I just can't get if off my head and I wondered who the heck is "JORDIN SPARKS?" And I became a fan of the song that is. I don't get attached to artists...It's melody is very catchy, something you can't get out of your head for a whole day...

Gabrielle Fri, Aug 31, 2007 at 06:18 PM EST

I just listened to it, and in my opinion, it is one of the best songs ever! I will admit that I haven't "listened" listened to it, and I'm a HUGE Jordin fan, and I'm also a person who would rather tell little white lies than tell the truth--but I honestly LOVE the song.

jv Thu, Aug 30, 2007 at 12:26 PM EST

I think all these people attacking poor jordin are just out for revenge that "their" idol did not win. GET OVER IT!!!!! You had your chance to vote and you chose Jordin, at least the majority did. Anyways, the majority, including me and Melinda, will still buy the cd no matter what. Jordin, you are the best. we love your song!!!! I keep requesting it from z100 and y100

waves Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 03:12 PM EST

Dissappointed, and I thought she was very breathy in the song. Guess she hasn't learned anything from Melinda.

kim mathis Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 12:58 PM EST

I love it and I really like the back ground sound. I think it will be a big winner.

Muffy Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 09:45 PM EST

A humungous girl like that will need to sing better and have better songs if she wants to be successful as a recording artist.

Margo Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 09:29 PM EST

I agree with about 100 others that the lyrics and the title are horrible. The melody is decent and Jordin sounds great. No annoying vibrato or breathing either.

supermart Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 05:32 PM EST

Forgettable Sparks. Idol producers admitted they made some mistakes, so if you want to repair: Sign MELINDA!!!

servo Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 02:28 PM EST

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Shelly Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 02:03 PM EST

I can't belive this is the song I get in return for contracting arthritis in my fingers and hands, trying to speed vote for her....thanks!

Danielle Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 01:59 PM EST

Granted, I'm usually way less harsh than everyone else, but I like it. Yeah, the lyrics could definitely be better, but it's not that bad. The beat is catchy and I would have recognized her voice even if I didn't know it was her. Not a bad start all in all.

Julia M Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 01:02 PM EST

The song is blah, but I appreciated the ode to Billy Joel in Slezak's post. That made my day.

Kelly Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 12:58 PM EST

yeeeeaaaah, it's boring. And I think the fact that the title is "Tattoo" doesn't really help things...although it's not as wretched as that "winning" song from the AI finale-blech.

likes2talk Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 12:52 PM EST

I thought the song was cute. I liked her voice and the beat of the song. I felt it was age appropriate and will attrack the younge/teenaged girlz.
( Though I'm 40ish... and liked it too!! :)
I'll buy it!

Myma Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 12:28 PM EST

Yep, it will be everywhere, wafting over the airspace at Walgreens and Target.

Charlie Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 12:22 PM EST

this could've been a LOT worse.

Bemused Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 11:59 AM EST

It's okay, not compelling. So, let's get on to the REAL issue: When do we get to hear more of wonderful Melinda?

suzeet Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 11:56 AM EST

I agree that the yelping is annoying and not needed. It reminds of that song that came out a few years ago wit the baby crying in the background - also annoying. So I rate this song "OK".

Like Jason, I also saw the idols last week in Pittsburgh. The stage was bland, the singing was good (especially impressed with Gina, Chris R and LaKisha) but Jordan was kinda boring, only singing songs from the TV show (even ones she was poorly rated on}, with the exception of a really nice rendition of Jewel's "You were meant for me". Didn't she have time to learn some new songs? The others did.

yellehs2 Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 11:49 AM EST

Radio friendly, but I agree with another poster that if you heard it without introduction I don't think anyone would recognize it as Jordin singing. And that "yelping" in the background is totally distracting and unecessary; to me it sounds completely out of place. Wonder who thought that up? Just because it's Jordin and "pop", I think it'll easily make a top 40 hit. Since Spears is pretty well a goner, the young girls need a new idol. Now for Blake and Melinda.

to Joy Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 11:49 AM EST

I believe Carrie Underwood wrote the lyrics.

Joy Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 11:40 AM EST

Hum...just listened the song with my family...la,la,la...what was it about again? Oh, yes, a tatoo, except she pronounces it tá-too and it annoys the heck out of me. The melody is nice (like Jordin seems to be), but the lyrics...CALL THE SONGWRITING POLICE!!! Who wrote the inane lyrics? Somebody tell me, please, because I want to *BEG* them to quit the business. *I* write better lyrics. Almost anybody with a good knowledge of the English language and an innate sense of musicality and common sense will write better lyrics! *sigh* Sorry, girlie, this is not a good song. If the rest of her debut CD is like that, I'm not forking over the dough. Next!

Gwen4791 Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 11:39 AM EST

This song sounds like it was written with the specific purpose to get a single out before the end of the year - rushed...hurried...copycat...and perfect for 10-14 year olds. Idol is so predictable. They haven't let me down yet.

JC Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 11:22 AM EST

Jordin Sparks single Tattoo is awsome and out of this world. I hope the rest of her album is that way also.If not, I will still buy it.

bluenote Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 11:14 AM EST

Wow. That was incredibly . . . forgettable. I just listened to it, 30 seconds ago, and I almost forgot to post a comment about it.

jv Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 09:06 AM EST

ok, This song does not have that 'WOW' factor on it. The first time I heard it I thought 'is this it?' Then I started listening to colbi, #1 on the charts, and this 'tattoo' is right there with what's in the top. So I listen to it again. The yelping is annoying, but the song grows on you. I still believe, as a fanatic jordin fan as I am, that she did just ok! I believe she could have pushed it and give us the wow factor. Let's hope that is still coming. In the meantime, I have played this song at least 20 times now, and I do like it, it is not anything less than what's in the top, but it could still be better. Push it harder Jordin, you can do it! Give us the extra wow that will keep you in the top.

bb Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 06:11 AM EST

"I loved you once, need protection"? ok that has to be the worst lyric in recording history, did she catch something? Is she now pregnant?

Can't wait for the Dance remix thought, that will be a hit! (so they can get rid of the yelping loop)

Beyonce-3po's CPU Technician Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 04:36 AM EST

And one more thought.

I thought Jesus Take The Wheel was the most bland piece of musical tissue paper to come from the most bland Idol ever and it truned out to be a huge hit so maybe vanilla is the flavor of the month?

Beyonce-3po's CPU Technician Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 04:34 AM EST

It is pretty typical American Idol first single kind of stuff.

It did get really catchy the second time through, I have to admit. I didnt even know what the lyrics were until M-Sleze broke it off to us.

Invisible and Sorry 2004 were probablly some of the best first singles that will ever come out of that show.

jason Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 01:36 AM EST

sadly it is "irreplacable" 2.0. i just saw the idol concert here in pittsburgh, and jordin was best when she sang "you were meant for me", with just her guitar and her country performances. too bad she was destined for mid-level pop fair. she does have a great voice and personality.

Sister Anna Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 09:12 PM EST

I kinda like it. i by no means am a big fan of hers, but all in all kind of catchy and I think it will do well.

jen Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 09:01 PM EST

I think it stinks and Jordin will be the worst selling idol winner

Brainiac Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 08:15 PM EST

I've never been a fan of Jordin Sparks - while she's got a big voice, I always found it wheezy, whiny, and breathy (she inhales so much during songs!). Like Slezak said, this was a surprisingly and nicely restrained recording. Still, she's not a great vocal talent. The song itself? Meh. Sounds more like a CD filler song than a release.

Personally, I was on Team Melinda. However, this entire past season of Idol has been a gigantic let-down. I just finished listening to a Josh Groban CD (he is the. Best. Singer. Ever.) so all the idols - and practiacally all recording artists - sounds like caca in comparison now. All songs have been ruined for me!

JIm Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 07:57 PM EST

I like it. Not bad at all, there's definitely worse on the radio right now. It's not amazing, but first singles from Idols rarely are.

With the exception of Elliott Yamin (loves "Wait For You")

She's very talented, and I'm hopeful that her album will have some gems on it.

And thank you very much, but I never even noticed the yelping until it was pointed out...now it's all I can hear.

idigress Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 03:58 PM EST

Hate it.

idigress Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 03:58 PM EST

Hate it.

idigress Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 03:58 PM EST

Hate it.

Nina Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 09:17 AM EST

Yes this does sound like any other song an average pop star comes out with. It does rip off Beyonce a little, but I don't see this being as successful as Irreplacable. This is the exact song I would expect Jordin to make, a very nice pop soundish, corny song because let's face it she is a very nice, pop soundish, kind of corny girl.

Sunday Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 07:34 AM EST

Don't pay much attention to lyrics anyway, so liked the beat and the voice. The yelping was the strangest thing, very distracting from the music. What's the point with that, anyway?

Lynnette Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 07:31 AM EST

i think her new single is pretty good. I have liked her from the get go. So all you haters back off, lol.

Raymond Sun, Aug 26, 2007 at 01:03 AM EST

My God is this what Top 40 is playing? It's horrible, forgettable and bland. Sigh. Where's some originality? I'm passing on the single and on the album. Sorry.

Amanda Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 11:54 PM EST

I don't think the song is that good and I certainly see how it blatantly rips off Beyonce and yet still...I LOVE this song. The hook is so catchy that I was singing along by the second chorus.

T Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 11:35 PM EST

I'm not a Jordin fan, but jeez folks, give the girl a break! The AI internet community are way too critical and harsh in general. In the end, it's regular music fans opinions that count. Trust me, the AI machine has a plan and know what they're doing with Jordin's music career.

SHIZA Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 09:23 PM EST

its not bad. but like a tattoo thats so cheezy like really.. the vocals and the music are good but the lyrics pretty much ruined the song.

? Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 08:50 PM EST

Don't care for the song. American Idol winners, with the exception of Chris Daughtry, have yet to have a real good first song. She is cute, that might win some empty people over.

Sally Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 08:22 PM EST

After a few listens, I like it more. I like the production more than her singing ability, which I agree with others will take a few years to develop.

Yo Slezak Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 07:11 PM EST

I was cracking up at the "yelping". Too funny. Anyway, her voice sounds good. The song, however, blows as hard as the wind. Too bad. Bring on Blake's single, quick.

Joe Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 05:49 PM EST

Oh Michelle! They never develop anyone over 5 years. They throw crap against the wall and see what sticks. The stuff that doesn't stick gets dropped. The stuff that does lives on to drive me insane (Carrie Underwood and Daughtry!)

to Bill Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 05:26 PM EST

And remember, her favorite artist is Fergie...

Bill Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 04:13 PM EST

Is anyone shocked that her first single is bland and generic? Of course, she loved this song. She loves EVERYTHING. I've heard they are choosing the next single already - it's a toss-up between "OMG! Rainbows!" and "I Love Puppies!"

Hmmmm Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 02:52 PM EST

She should go country. Now THAT would be exciting. How many black/bi-racial artists are there in country music? You can probably count them on one hand. Probably 1 finger.

The would up her profile big time.

Rose Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 02:44 PM EST

If she's not going the way of country she'll need to control letting that twang come through.

fjs Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 02:20 PM EST

Boredom Sparks.

Michelle Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 02:10 PM EST

It's all right. It grows on you with repeated listenings, which I suspect we will get since this is a VERY radio-friendly song, even if on the bland side. IMO it's better than Wait For You, and that's doing well. And YES, it's much better than This Is My Now.

That said, this song is depending on Jordin's name recognition as the Idol for it to make the Top 40/20 (which I think it will.)

Jordin is not intended to be the edgy one in Clive's stable from this season, they're saving that for Blake. They also have Leona in the wings for the instant-diva role. I see them developing Jordin over the next 5 years and letting her grow up a bit.

give her a chance Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 01:53 PM EST

This is a song that if you just listen to a couple or three times, it will grow on you. I am a fan and I wasn't blown away on the first listen. After a couple of more tries, it started growing on me. I think it is radio friendly which will get her the exposure she needs.

kelly Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 01:30 PM EST

boring, generic, studio-manufactured, trite b.s. Another nail in the coffin of pop music.

Brett Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 12:02 PM EST

Generic Jordan, just as I had expected. I agree with many of the posters; she has a nice voice but she's not a real artist. I'm still waiting for Blake and Melinda.

Marion Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 12:01 PM EST

That "yelping business" is my favorite element of the recording.

grateful Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 11:09 AM EST

At least she didn't sing "like a tattoo-oo-oo eh-eh-eh."

j Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 10:59 AM EST

I mean, it does sound like "everything I've ever heard my whole life," but isn't that, like, all of pop music these days? Anything remotely creative or anything that tries to push the envelope (even a tiny bit, like KC's "My December," which I ADORE) freaks everyone out and they run back to crap like this. I mean, this is generic, but that's what most idiotic consumers want. So I think it'll do ok, at least. It'll spend some time in the top 40.

Dillon Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 10:58 AM EST

soo I actually really like it.. I think maybe it's because I can identify with it or whatever. But, like Kat's "Over It" I hate how they do not utilize her amazing vocal abilities..

Bleh Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 10:41 AM EST

Utterly generic, just like Jordin. That's the core of this girl's problem. Nice girl. Pretty voice. No musical identity.

The selection of this bland, middle of the road song highlights this fact perfectly.

Play this song on the radio with no introduction, I can guarantee you no one could guess who's singing it. Nor would they stop and listen.

This won't help keep her in the public's mind until November when her album is suppose to come out.

Meanwhile the American public will continue to forget who won American Idol.

Stephen Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 10:39 AM EST

Looking at that pic, am I the only one who thinks she looks like America Ferrera from "Ugly Betty?"

anonymous Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 09:57 AM EST

I like Jordin, and I like her vocals. Regarding the song itself, though, it's a miss for me.

Abomb Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 09:51 AM EST

It's not SO bad. I just wish it had a little more oomph. She sounds good though. I can't wait to see what grandma torch song Melinda comes out with either (not) Waiting for Blake's single for sure.

Blech Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 09:47 AM EST

Wow, what an underwhelming first song out of the gate. I really want to like her, but just can't find anything about Jordin that doesn't feel like pre-fab, cardboard cutout, pop styrofoam.

lkcraig316 Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 09:01 AM EST

The yelping made my dogs go crazy, barking and running around as if they were in pain. Nuff said.

Jeff Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 07:00 AM EST

uh....the yelping is just plain strange. And the song. Lame. Been there, done that. Don't usually mind that...but expected something stronger out of the box. Maybe next time.

beb Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 05:31 AM EST

It's not a terrible song, but I have to agree with Slezak that the yelping is a distraction. It's like the Stargate guys sat around a table, listened to Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right," and said "We HAVE to incorporate someone shouting in the background on one of our gazillion upcoming releases...it really doesn't matter who, because all of our songs are basic, like IKEA!!!"

I see this song performing roughly the same as Kat McPhee's "Over It," another song that restrained vocals in favor of production.

SuzieC Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 02:02 AM EST

The lyrics are so-so cheezy. THe vocals are good though.
The best thing that I can say about this song is that it's better than Britney's new single.

B Chiocchi Sat, Aug 25, 2007 at 01:32 AM EST

Stephen - agreed. But then "This is my Now" had the necessary potential emotional impact that the shows producers wanted/needed and only Jordin could have delivered as a finale. The song fit the contestants situation. Great for public consumption - TV viewing, ratings and replays. Poor Blake, there was zero ammofor his vocal guns in this song.

Which brings up another point - the poster before you "no name - OMG" is no doubt a young non-Jordin fan (Disgruntled ________ Blake? fan). Remarks are a bit over the top negative and well,.... immature.

Stephen Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 11:58 PM EST

Well, we all must admt, it's a heck of a lot better than "This is my Now."

Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 11:31 PM EST

omg. jordin sparks sings songs from the trash - ones that real artists threw out becauase they sucked. and from jordin's aol interview, she must be the most IMMATURE winner of AI, forget about being called "the youngest". this song is NOT catchy and actually sounds like a watery, run-down version of Rihanna's Umbrella, with that weird techno beat in the background. and dude! did the producers of this single and CD not pay ANY attention to what jordin's strengths are from her AI performances??! oh right, jordin said it herself in her aol interview, she WANTED this song to be her first single...omg. jordin's 15 minutes are SOOOOOO up and over. i just could not WAIT for this song to be over with about 20 seconds into it. next.

B Chiocchi Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 11:24 PM EST

Tough crowd tonight! I think it's a great initial low risk release. Recall number one objective - radio friendly. She needs air time and this one will get played. And, true to Jordin's desire and ability, it blends several elements some more subtle than others - mostly pop, a little hip hop (very little)and her country voice shows in a few of the lyrics. I expect the November CD will have more of cross section including the power vocals everyone seems to expect of Jordin whene ever she sings. Stay tuned.

Noelle Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 11:11 PM EST

Liked her, liked Blake more, don't like this song so much. She sounds good and the melody is sort of pretty, but its your basic Hannah Montana type of song. The yelping in the background is horrid too.

Nicole Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 10:53 PM EST

she sounds like the missing member of eden's crush (you that band from the show popstars?). it was really only okay but this is as good as i expected it to be.

Tommy Marx Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 10:25 PM EST

I was disappointed. It sounded like a lame and easily forgettable Disney power ballad. Jordin has a great voice, but it's wasted on such a bland and generic song.

Dee Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 09:22 PM EST

Jordin's talent is wasted on this song. She sings it well, but there's really nothing to it. It's typical and forgettable, and she's too good a singer to have this be her first big single.

Me Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 09:20 PM EST

Hmmm. A love song with lovely sentiment.
But they forgot something. Tattoos can be removed.

Lindsay Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 09:14 PM EST

I personally love this song. It's catchy and fun. The yelping is weird though.

Laura Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 09:13 PM EST

It reminds me of nothing so much as Jessica Simpson's "With You." A pleasant enough song, but Jordin can sing rings around Jess and I would like to hear it.

I think the song is FANTASTIC. It's a smash. I think you guys need to give it a chance. I looooove the synth lines and the chorus is really strong. I agree about the yelping - it doesn't add to the song and can be distracting. Overall, I think it's a solid and catchy tune. I'll be buying it on iTunes. I always preferred Melinda and Blake, but Jordin does herself proud with this song. Great job. BTW, Kelly's "Sober" is AMAZING!

I heart Slezak. He's the thinking man's Joel Stein.

If I have any recollection of this song by tomorrow I will be amazed. It just about matches my expectations for Jordin though.

Does anyone know if Clive Davis ever signed Melinda?

mostly harmless

Upin a second listen, I realize how sad the song is. I mean, this is what Melinda lost to? Jordin's got the pipes, but I guess this is what Clive Davis meant when he said 'radio friendly' to Kelly Clarkson.

Yeah, the yelping is a little strange.

I agree-- not terrible, just thoroughly innocuous. Very playing-over-the-end-credits-of-a-Disney-channel-movie, but not in a totally bad way.

Perhaps she'll do a duet with Sanjaya next?

Was wondering when you were going to get to this, Slezak...
The yell in the bg is definitely a misguided attempt to make the some seem at least a little edgy. It sounds like a solid Hilary Duff song. I was hoping Jordin would do something a little more unexpected.

I hated Jordin during this season, but was willing to give her music a chance since everyone seemed to think she had this incredible recording potential. Still waiting to hear it after this song...

Bring on Melinda's first single!!!

Jordin, Jordin, Jordin...

Pull this single and head back to the studio. There's more to you than this.

Ok song - but I hated that yell in the background. Pretty much reuined it for me. I was hoping for a great pop song (like most of Kelly Clarkson's - or my other favorite post Idol songs - "Invisible" and "8th World Wonder")

Wow this song is so boring. I enjoyed Jordin Sparks this season, unfortunately I don't see this rocketing her to superstardom.

It does have an "irreplaceableish" quality to it. Very catchy when you hear it, but real subtance when you actually listen.

It reminds me of Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad."
