These eyes have seen a lotta...?

Aug 28, 2007, 06:25 PM | by Annie Barrett

Categories: 'Lost'

Jeff_l If you missed EW's scoop late yesterday, Jeff Fahey (The Lawnmower Man, Grindhouse) will be joining the cast of Lost next season. The producers wouldn't comment on his character, but said Fahey (pictured) was the first and only choice for the role. "He has the most intense eyes of any guy out there, and I say that as a non-gay man," said Carlton Cuse. (I wonder what kind of things he says as a gay man!) So I've been sitting here daydreaming about what sorts of important tasks a pair of really intense peepers could accomplish on the Island. First and foremost: They can replace Ben's as the eyes that get the most arguably undeserved closeup action. They could also act as conjure-uppers of more Dharma peanut butter. Or, magnetically corrupt the atmosphere whenever the dull and over-acting Sayid wanders by. Even hypnotize Baby Aaron for the hell of it.

Let's just assume for now that these eyes contain All The Answers in their watery blue depths, and move on. Or not. Speculate on Fahey's character — or tell me to shut the eff up and wait — below.

Those eyes. Are they the eyes of Jacob. And, does that mean Jacob is gay? - joke But in all seriousness I think Jeff Fahey will be the perfect Jacob.

John L Thu, Aug 30, 2007 at 01:44 PM EST

I agree. Annie B has been the funniest writer on EW for years.

joel Thu, Aug 30, 2007 at 01:37 PM EST

Geez,
Sounds like there are quite a few VERY SERIOUS Lost fans out there.
Criticism of a TV show by Annie Barrett doesn"t seem like it should threaten some of these posters personally. They kind of sound dull and overacting.

in too deep Thu, Aug 30, 2007 at 09:32 AM EST

i agree.. shut the eff up!

babs Thu, Aug 30, 2007 at 09:31 AM EST

whoa... do not insult the Sayid character! are you kidding me? and who the heck are YOU? what a stupid article.

joe Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 10:34 PM EST

over-acting sayid!? you should be fired right now

Emily Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 04:23 PM EST

I bet he's Jacob. Kinda scary, like you wouldn't want to get on his bad side, but if he's been held captive by Ben... Yeah, I bet he's Jacob.

Stephanie Travitsky Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 01:12 PM EST

What's with this photo of Fahey? Is he fliming the Dan Haggerty (aka Grizzly Adams) Story? Where's Ben the Bear?

oh yay. Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 12:43 PM EST

annie is back to say ridiculous things about lost again. i missed her.

not really.

wildecat Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 12:35 PM EST

Good God, when did oh-so-dreamy Jeff Fahey morph into Grizzly Adams?

gaper's delay Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 12:07 PM EST

Eh, Sayid ain't all that, relax.

MAC Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 10:53 AM EST

Please NEVER insult Sayid like that again Annie Barrett!

nay-lo Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 10:48 AM EST

A young Santa Claus? Or the Gorton's Fisherman.

Felise Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:54 AM EST

I know its been said a number of times here, but... I just have to say it, too... Sayid is not overacting and dull! As for his role. I don't know, sounds exciting though.

Angela Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:41 AM EST

I agree that he could be the ship's captain - Ben said there were people looking for the island, and not in a "best interests of the island" way.

Doug Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:40 AM EST

One more thing, be on the lookout for possible flashbacks from Rousseau, Walt, Michael, and dearly departed Libby.

Doug Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:37 AM EST

My first guess was that he was going to be Jacob, but I don't think the producers would reveal that character quite yet. I think Jacob should be an older character in my opinion. Fahey could be the ship's captain, or get this, a castaway found my Michael and Walt on their little journey to "where ever they went".

IMO Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:29 AM EST

Love Jeff Fahey! Have since he was on the soap One Life to Live (I think). And he made a great bad guy in Silverado. Could not look away from him when he was on the screen. Must be the eyes:)

D Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:17 AM EST

Annie - I bet you're a big John Locke fan...anyone who thinks Sayid is "dull and overacting" must be a Locke fan (talk about dull and overacting).

DocArzt Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:12 AM EST

A lot of Fahey's parts (Jobe in Lawnmower Man, Duke in Psycho 3) where all about being charismatic yet coiled. Since Lindelof said he has the right sensibilities for Lost, I'm going to bet that this will at least be the nature of his character. Trying to guess who he is specifically, though, is a fools errand.

CONFUZION Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:10 AM EST

Sayid overracting...... are you actually even a lost fan? Someone get me Jeff Jenson please!

whaaaaaaaa? Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:10 AM EST

sayid is one of the best actors on the show. methinks you are overacting in this popwatch.

Rhonda Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 08:56 AM EST

First of all, "dull and overacting Sayid"? Are you even watching the same show as the rest of us? Naveen Andrews is a wonderful actor. Secondly, I've always found Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof bizarre (and not in a particularly good way) so it doesn't surprise me when something inane pops out of their overactive mouths. I'm more surprised when they say something intelligent. Thirdly, although I'd never heard of Jeff Fahey before, I think he'd make a pretty good Jacob should he ever make it full phase. I can imagine Jacob having intense eyes.

Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 08:45 AM EST

"Dull and overacting Sayid"? WTF.

Laurie Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 08:29 AM EST

This cannot be the same Jeff Fahey that starred in millions of USA network B movies during my childhood - can it? He doesn't look like he can kick a** like he used to with that furry animal on his face.

jenjen Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 06:59 AM EST

I'm still stuck on "That's Jeff Fahey?"

Sunday Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 06:32 AM EST

Immediately thought of Jacob. Or, is that too easy and it's some new character we can't even dream of?

XSE Drake Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 06:05 AM EST

He's got to be Jacob.

bootsycolumbia Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 11:08 PM EST

DULL AND OVERACTING SAYID?? Sorry for the caps, but that is a ridiculous phrase. Annie, shame on you. As for Fahey's role, I second Todd: shut the eff up and wait.

Tuzo Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 10:58 PM EST

I'm goin' with Jacob too.

Riggs Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 10:34 PM EST

Despite seeing this character in the Lost Experience...perhaps he will be Alvar or Magnus Hanso.

Ceballos Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 09:16 PM EST

How dare you accuse a character on the island of dullness and overacting...and be talking about Sayid and NOT Jack...or Kate. (At least Jack got interesting again in the season finale.)

Sayid barely gets anything to do these days, so I don't blame Naveen Andrews if he overacts when they actually throw him a bone.

Snarf Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 09:05 PM EST

My money is on Jacob the invisable or phased out of our perception/reality hillbilly.

Nancy Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 07:43 PM EST

I disagree that the attention Ben (Michael Emerson)has received is undeserved. He has been the most fascinating character on the show (imo) and is deservedly nominated for an Emmy. I'm rooting for him to win. My guess is Mr. Bright Eyes is Jacob, but who knows?

Deb Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 07:21 PM EST

Maybe Jacob. Or, maybe the leader of the crew of the ship contacted to "rescue" the castaways. He could certainly win them over with those piercing blues, a nice smile, too, and then start some trouble. I don't think I've seen any of his other work. Should be interesting.

Thad Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 06:21 PM EST

He will be playing Santa Claus.

Todd Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 06:09 PM EST

shut the eff up and wait.

Kate Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 06:07 PM EST

Maggs has a point, I don't even remeber the guy in the cabin that Locke saw. Oh wait a second...now I remember Jacob, but seriously, are we going to have to have a Lost reacquaintence course before they start with the new eps. It's been away for so long I've almost completely forgotten about the show.
My guess is maybe the guy will play a friend or close colleague of Mr. Friendly. Just by looking at him, anyways, he has the beard for it.

Maggs Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 05:53 PM EST

Im gonna say that he's gonna play Jacob, the guy in the cabin that Locke saw. =( why do we have to wait till January to see Lost?
