Love it or loathe it? Cowboy Troy's 'Hick Chick [Dance Mix]'

Aug 21, 2007, 10:32 AM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: Music

As someone who defends country music's right to rock (or rap), I'm trying to embrace Cowboy Troy's "Hick Chick [Dance Mix]," but I'm on the fence.

Plus: It's got a beat you can dance to.
Minus: Pretty sure he says to "Feel it in your crack."
Plus: It's a call-and-response song. "Where all the hick chicks?" "Right here, Troy! Right here!" And who doesn't love a good call-and-response?
Minus: As Slezak points out, "He just rhymed grocery with supposed to be."
Plus: Cowboy Troy and John Rich look good in suits.
Minus: There's a woman swinging in stirrups. Does country music really need video girls?

Ugh. That's three pluses, and three minuses. Care to break the tie in the comments section, P-Dubs?

alright i know this isnt at all considered country but it does happen to be one of my favorite songs call me strange i know. it should yes be in a different category of music however

i don't think rap has anything to do with country music . counrty music is going way south!!!most country songs now are rock songs or pop songs .. now rap??i think they need to be put songs in proper categories.. not just in country music because that is what is popular..rap is popular .put hick chick song where it belongs.and the majority of the songs they are throwing into country music!!

Personally i dont think any country should be mixed with any sort of rap music. It's just plain stupid. To all the people dissing country music, it's usually the people that can relate to the lyrics in a country song that like it. But anyways.. Cowboy Troy should not exist.

All I got to say is ... I'm glad that us country girls have finally got something we can truly dance to when we go out to dance in the cities.

Cowboy Troy is a joke. He sucks. He opened for B&R at Mohegan Sun in CT, and everyone just sat there, waiting for him to get off the stage. HORRIBLE. No stage presence, his songs BLOW. It's not country, it's CRAP. I can't wait untill B&R stop giving him a free hand out and drop him from the tour so he can just fade away.

Hey Hutchy . You might want to learn a bit more about yourself.
I am sure you would call me a hick, which is OK. I used to say I hated Opera and my father told me it showed ignorance to comment on things I don't understand. You might want to think about that awhile. This is not meant to be mean. The world would be very boring if we all like exactly the same thing.

Sharon Mon, Sep 3, 2007 at 01:33 PM EST

Hey Junior.
Luckily PC hasn't worried us southerners. We are able to laugh at ourselves because we know MOST of us are good people. I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as what Imus said by the way. IMHHO (In my humble hick opinion )

Sharon Mon, Sep 3, 2007 at 01:31 PM EST

it's fun. It's not meant to be a classic hit. Enjoy it for what it is. (and yeah look around the world. MOST people don't look like those girls_

As being a girl from what we call a Hick Town...most of our hick girls are tiny casue we work our butts off and I personally like the song. I've always been a fan of Cowboy Troy and John Rich. I think its a new form to introduce to the music world and deserves its own chance.

Troy Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 11:55 AM EST

on the up side the girls try to dress like hillbilly girls note that i said try but who doesnt love to watch hot girls dance in sequence

kimmers Wed, Aug 22, 2007 at 11:13 AM EST

Did anybody else notice that John Rich smashes his guitar just like in the Rockstar video?

Diana Wed, Aug 22, 2007 at 05:28 AM EST

Jen - I second you on everything you said about John Rich!

CitizenVA Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 05:27 PM EST

That is about as country as Aerosmith!

Boo!

It's a train wreck! As a non-country loving black girl, I was sucked in by the world premiere of this video on CMT (I did not even know I had this channel)countdown! It is very bizarre. It won't make it to my iPod though.

Jen Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 03:05 PM EST

I'm pretty sure John Rich would look good in anything, although I am liking him in that suit...

Jen Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 02:54 PM EST

Well, speaking as someone from a hick town, 'hick chicks' don't look like that. Those girls need to put on about 30 pounds.

I agree Cowboy Troy looks good, and it's got a good beat, but the lyrics are sort of inane. I'm on the fence as well.

Marci Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 02:44 PM EST

That really sucked. Immensely.

mscisluv Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 01:56 PM EST

Definitely minus - and since when do guys ask a girl "for your name, and possibly your email"? Email to ask for a date? Seriously?

Gillian Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 01:17 PM EST

I'm a big time country fan, but this just plain old sucks. I was horrified to see it on CMT the other day and am hoping they take that sorry excuse for a song (of any genre) off the air soon!

Sally Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 12:35 PM EST

Cowboy is a rapper? who knew.

Becca Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 12:06 PM EST

minus, definitely. country stars should stick to country & not try rap. EVER!

LK Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 11:27 AM EST

minus: 3 minutes and 51 seconds of pure garbage

Neffs Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 10:54 AM EST

Well there was a midget (briefly), but I can't decide whether that's a plus or a minus.

Anne Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 10:35 AM EST

That is 3 minutes and 51 seconds that I will never get back.

Hutchy Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 10:35 AM EST

Ahhhh country music, always good for a laugh. Whenever I feel the need to feel better about myself, I just turn on CMT for 5 minutes and mull over the fact that people actually watch that stuff and actually ENJOY it, does the trick every time!

dunksahoy Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 09:47 AM EST

minus: has the girl from Dancelife

junior Tue, Aug 21, 2007 at 09:40 AM EST

PC Police Alert: Isn't "hick" a derogatory term for Southern white people? Should Cowboy Troy be sayin' that? It smacks of reverse Imus. Oh, and I can't get past his delivery to like the song much.
