Sorry, those of you who were rooting for Harvey Keitel to get the gig: The new star of CBS' Criminal Minds is Joe Mantegna.

I think Mantegna's a solid choice for what I consider to be an unremarkable show.

Still, let's not get carried away by saying they should've DEFINITELY chosen Keitel. Like wildecat pointed out, the last thing the producers wanted was another person who might potentially be a pain to deal with.

Also, though I realize Keitel IS eternally cool because of his past work with Scorsese and Tarantino, he hasn't exactly been lighting it up this past decade. I mean, the coolest thing he's done in the past 10 years is that Gatorade commercial with Jeter.

"Ah, stealin'...it's a beautiful thing."

I never watched Criminal Minds, but I'm tempted to now that Joe Mantegna is in it. Good choice!

Fat Tony is way easier to watch than Geena Davis and her constantly moving face...after watching Joe in Starter Wife this summer, it'll be nice to see him on a regular basis...I guess I'll have to start watching Criminal Minds now...sigh...since I watch CSI:Grissom and Numbers, does that make me look old?

You mean they're different people?

krushgroove, I think it's time for your nap. Really. If it's just a "CSI clone," why on earth are you getting so worked up?

I can't blame the producers for not giving in to Keitel's demands. After working with Patinkin, the king of all divas (if that makes any sense), they probably didn't want to deal with another demanding, tempermental actor.

Personally, I've loved Joe Montegna ever since "Things Change." He's a Tony-award winning actor (Glengarry Glen Ross), so he's got the chops. Criminal Minds is a little too gruesome for me, but maybe I'll check it out now.

"EW has learned Keitel was a near-lock, but negotiations ultimately fell apart over the actor's demands for creative control and perks." What?? People, when you've got HARVEY KEITEL ready to sign on the dotted line, you GIVE HIM WHAT HE WANTS! How freaking cool would it have been to have the Bad Lieutenant heading up a CSI team? God, you already lost Mandy due to the same thing. Now you've got a washed-up actor who's only decent work lately has been voicing The Simpsons. The second choice. CBS, you've got a great show here, but it ain't The Sistine Chapel of TV shows. What is it, the seventh of it's type to come along? The only thing that got it noticed was Mandy's turn as the head of the team. What 'creative control' do you need over this show anyway? IT'S A FREAKING CSI CLONE! A good one, but still a clone!

Yet another reason NOT to watch this show..

I love Fat Tony, but my favourite choice in all this speculation was Geena Davis. Oh well.

I don't know if I'm going to enjoy not watching Criminal Minds with Joe Mantegna quite as much as I enjoyed not watching it with Mandy Patinkin.
