Which movie trailers scare the hell out of you?

Categories: Movie Trailers

Green_l I have an abnormal love of horror films. I think it came from wanting to conquer my fear of the dark, spiders, and clowns. What kid isn't afraid of clowns? I even remember the first trailer that scared me so much I cried my little eyes out — and then spent the next two years out in the lobby when the previews ran. What was the movie you ask? The Funhouse, by acclaimed horror director by Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). I'll admit the film looks lame now, but I was 4 when I saw the trailer. This poses the question: What the hell was the movie that my parents took me to that this was shown before?

I started thinking about this after seeing the trailer for 30 Days of Night, a new vampire flick coming out this October with Josh Hartnett. I wasn't that spooked by its preview, but it reminded me of a recent film, The Haunting, whose teaser scared the living bejeezus out of me at the ripe old age of 22. Trust me, it's much scarier on the big screen. And after watching The Haunting, I can tell you the best part of the film was the teaser.

But I can't be the only one who still cowers at the cinema. Bare your souls, PopWatchers! What trailer made you cover your eyes? I don't care if it's when you were 2 or 52.

Does anyone remember a movie about a vehicle that comes out of the ground on a road and chases people in their vehicles? I remember it was a neat black one. By the by..when I was a kids, he movie "The Evictors" was the scariest movie for me until I saw "The Changeling."

an attractive woman with long hair has her back turned to the camera, and as she slowly raises a flower to her hair, she sweetly says "Roses are red, violets are blue, this is the flower.." and she spins around to reveal a monstrous, horrific face, and then, in a monstrous voice, she yells, "THAT'LL MEAN THE...END...OF..YOOOUUU!!" Does anyone remember this movie?

The title of this movie has been bothring me for 25 years what is it?

Stacy Wed, Oct 31, 2007 at 06:10 PM EST

The best Haunted House movie was "The Changeling" with George C. Scott.

Does anyone remember a fairly newer film (1980's or 90's) about a maniac Ventriloquist that stalks a woman to her cabin in the woods? I cannot remember who was in that or the name of the film. Hellllpppp!!

Thanks....

catbaby Sat, Oct 27, 2007 at 05:45 PM EST

I remember being really freaked out by a trailer that featured alternating shots of a schoolbus full of kids and a graveyard. Anyone else remember this? I think it was probably an ad for The Children (1980), a schlocky movie about radioactive kids who set their parents on fire, but I haven't been able to find it again.

GlennAllen Fri, Sep 14, 2007 at 06:19 PM EST

I've seen so many.... Probably, as a kid, the "It's Alive" trailer was the best. The bassinet turns to some sweet melody, then there's a heartbeat sound, and claws on the side of the bassinet. Terrifying! Trailers from the '70s were better than those of today. ("Deadly Blessing" was pretty scary back in the '80s though!) Today, trailers for "Devil's Rejects," "House of 1000 Corpses," etc., scared me enough to change the channel.

davis Fri, Jul 20, 2007 at 10:37 AM EST

I love horror and dramas like the one I screened last night 4 HBO. It was so good.

monica Wed, Jul 18, 2007 at 07:50 PM EST

it's a toss up b/w the original Texas chain saw massacre, because of the increasing sound of the camera taking pictures and building suspense, or Dead Silence, when the drone-like children say, "If you see her, do not scream. She'll rip your tongue out at the seam." I'm terrified of Clowns and dolls.

Dawn Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 04:34 PM EST

Kind of off-topic, but the TV commercial for that short-lived series "American Gothic" that just had a voice whispering over and over "Someone's at the door.....someone's at the door...." {still shiver-worhty} My sister and I scared each other with that phrase at bed time for months!

Sarah Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 08:32 AM EST

Carl & Maura: I checked out the Suspiria trailer too. I love how the word "suspiria" is this vein-y, breathing-type thing. Camp at its best!
Uncle Stevie: We're still waiting to hear from you on this topic!

Dennis Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 12:48 AM EST

I totally forgot about "White Noise"!! The movie pretty much sucked, but the first half of the trailer that explains what Electronic Voice Phenomenon is just creeps me the heck out.

Carl Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 07:48 PM EST

Maura,

Thanks for reminding me of the name. I just checked the trailer out on youtube. I half-expected to run screaming out of the room, even as a 42-year-old grown man, but even though it's still a little unnerving, mostly because of childhood memories, it wasn't so bad, maybe even a little funny. Stop saying "Suspiria," announcer dude! We get it!

CineRam Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 05:52 PM EST

VIDEODROME. I was a little kid when I saw this. James Woods is examining a mysterious videotape, and it STARTS BREATHING.

Yikes.

Movie Buff Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 05:15 PM EST

The trailer for The Exorcism Of Emily Rose used to scare the crap out of me. I had to change the channel everytime it came on.

Delboy Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 05:14 PM EST

For all those freaked out by the Shining, here's a different take on the trailer that'll let you sleep a bit better - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuaYk-yDAgc

Nat X Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 04:41 PM EST

I was maybe 8 when I saw a trailer for Ghostbusters. I think we went to see Fletch or something. Anyway, it was just the scene of the librarian and Slimer, but it scared the begeezus out of me. I had no idea it was supposed to be a comedy.

MIMI Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 04:34 PM EST

I agree with the reader who talked about being weirded out by the final scene of "Blair Witch"...just talking about it gave me the creeps for weeks. I tried to watch it after it came out on video, but knowing what was coming up, I just couldn't. And speaking of Uncle Stevie movies...the only movie I DO NOT, WILL NOT, and CANNOT watch alone is the theater version of "The Shining". Maybe it is Jack Nicholson (and that STILL creepy kid) or maybe it is the fact that people really DO go off the deep end and chop up their families with an ax, but it is the only movie that truly creeps me out.

Anne Marie Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 04:19 PM EST

My older brother let me watch The Funhouse when I was obviously too young for it, and my fear of clowns continues to this day!

Maura Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 03:59 PM EST

Carl,

That's the Suspiria trailer I mentioned below! Go to youtube to check it out.

pierpunk Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 03:26 PM EST

A movie trailer that has burned itself into my brain is for a horror movie I believe was called, "Curtains." I was about 8 or 9 at the time – so we're talking early 80s. The basic premise is there is a car is driving along a misty New England-y road when it stops suddenly because there is a doll standing in the middle of the road. Right. The doll's back is facing the car, so the driver gets out of the car because she's an idiot/thinks it might be a little girl. She puts a hand on the doll's shoulder and the thing whirls around and GRIPS her hand. And the next scene is the car's headlights turning on and the engine revving. Because, of course, of course, of course – she left the car running. Scarred me for life. That and that dang clown from Poltergeist. My mother collected clowns. Gulp.

Carl Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 02:54 PM EST

After seeing everyone else's comments, I decided that this is proving to be good group therapy for healing childhood scars. I see that so many people grew up around the same time as I did, and were scared to death by the same trailers/commercials: Magic, Phantasm, and especially It's Alive (RACED to the TV to change the channel every time). There was one other one from the late 70's/early 80's that really gave me the creeps, but I can't think of the name of the movie: an attractive woman with long hair has her back turned to the camera, and as she slowly raises a flower to her hair, she sweetly says "Roses are red, violets are blue, this is the flower.." and she spins around to reveal a monstrous, horrific face, and then, in a monstrous voice, she yells, "THAT'LL MEAN THE...END...OF..YOOOUUU!!" Does anyone remember this movie? Scary. My big catchphrase throughout the 80's and 90's was "We've gotta stop using nursery rhymes for horror." Waaay too disturbing.

Pete Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 01:32 PM EST

i have no idea why and the movie sucked but the white noise teaser freaked me out!!

Delboy Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 12:31 PM EST

The TV spots for a forgettable, early 80's horror movie called 'The Boogens' got to me as a kid - seem to remember scaly hands lifting floor tiles in someone's house and dragging people under. Finally saw the movie a few years back though and it was nothing like what I remembered the trailers to be...

Paco Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 12:15 PM EST

Holy S**t! the trailer for Halloween 2 messed me up so bad when i was a kid that whenever it came on TV I would start crying and leave the room. When my sister dragged me to see the movie (i was like 6) I cried thru the whole thing. It one of my favorite movies today!

FunkyRedrum Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 11:33 AM EST

There were two for me. The first, Nightmare on Elm Street, creeped me out when the main character was engulfed in the steps as she walked up them. I ran so fast up and down my steps for weeks after I saw that trailer. The second is Silent Scream, when the woman was checking out a hole in the wall and got pulled in. That just played on my fear of meanies living in places where you can't see, such as beneath your bed and in your closet.

Valerie Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 10:49 AM EST

Definitely "The Exorcist" when I was a kid. Oh. And now, too (at 40). I still haven't seen the uncut version, and I am a major diehard horror fan (especially J-Horror).

Most recently, though, The Ring trailer freaked me out AFTER I had already seen the movie. I had to change the channel every time it came on during commericals!!! LOL

Andrew Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 07:50 AM EST

The remake of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" had a much shorter original trailer, which wasn't in theaters, that Michael Bay made to show to the studios. It's like the theatrical trailer with the screen all black and the sound of the girl screaming as she's running around the house, but there's such a (seemingly) long period between when she stops screaming and when the chainsaw cuts through the blackness that it startles me everytime. It's on the 2-disc DVD version. I guess Bay sold the film on merely that trailer. Also, at such a young age, the "Leatherface" trailer scared me, too. I couldn't go into my basement for quite a while. Too bad the movie was nearly as good as the trailer.

Maura Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 01:41 AM EST

I was about 10 years old when my mom took me to see "Rocky" at a second-run movie house. The trailers: Exorcist II: The Heretic, with a loud, whining theme song I can still remember to this day, and Suspiria, in which a woman turns around and is revealed to be a corpse. I was crying by the time "Rocky" started, and my mom had to calm me down.

Matthew Sun, Jul 15, 2007 at 11:23 PM EST

That trailer for NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN scared the s**t out of me when I saw LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD. Just the whole serial killer in small town thing. Yeahh.

BlueCarp Sun, Jul 15, 2007 at 11:13 PM EST

The TV commercials for "The Exorcist" scared me as a kid. I had no idea what it was about, but I was sure the exorcist himself was the bad guy.

Jack Dack Sun, Jul 15, 2007 at 01:27 PM EST

"The Others" trailer scared the heck out of me ("I am your daughter!"), but when I was a little kid, the "Freddy vs. Jason" trailer scared me so much that whenever it came on, I ran out of the theater.

Sean M Sun, Jul 15, 2007 at 08:29 AM EST

The scariest trailer I ever saw was the one for It's Alive(1977). The trailer begins with a bassinet slowly rotating to the tune of twinkle twinkle little star (or some other creepy lullabye)and then you see a little claw hand hanging over the edge. Freaky s**t. The Exorcist teaser also freaked me out too.

Dennis Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 11:28 PM EST

Colin, I remember being freaked out by the TV spots for the "Psycho" remake even though I did know what it was! The TV spots just showed a running shower head and then you hear the knife sounds and a woman screaming. The original "Psycho" always creeped me out, so those commercials for the remake just amplified that effect. Too bad the actual movie didn't.

Dennis Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 11:25 PM EST

Pretty much every horror movie trailer in the 80's scared me because I was a kid then, and even though I was a self-professed horror movie fan. I can name two trailers in particular though: "Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (the one with the "Lady in the Lake" parody) and "Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives" (a lightning bolt strikes his grave and he comes back to life). I don't know why the Leatherface trailer creeped me out so much, because it's ridiculous now that I think about it, but I remember seeing that Friday the 13th trailer while seeing "Short Circuit" (the robot movie with Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg) or something equally as juvenile with my mom at the movies. You just don't expect to see a "Friday" trailer with a movie like "Short Circuit."

Speaking of Guttenberg, I remember spotting "the ghost" while watching "Three Men and a Baby" on TV one night when I was 10 and I couldn't sleep for like a week after that because I thought it was real. Poor me.

Colin Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 08:36 PM EST

Until I realized what it was, "Psycho's" remake teaser had me creeped out.

Sarah Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 07:55 PM EST

kats: Oooo, that Dead Silence trailer is a killer! I just watched it on YouTube. Dummies and demented dolls and evil clowns! Aaaaaakkkk!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S10xjhe7ZQ8

Sarah Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 07:51 PM EST

For you "Magic" fans out there, I found a 3.5-minute clip of the film that exemplifies why Anthony Hopkins was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in this film. Watch and report back...if you dare!

Jer Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 05:35 PM EST

There was a teaser trailer for "Dark City" that scared me silly. I can't find it now (the ones on YouTube are a later trailer that's not as chilling), but every time I saw that trailer at the cineplex I swore I'd never see the movie. Once I finally relented, it became one of my favorite movies of all time.

whimsey Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 04:42 PM EST

"Blair Witch" had me sleepiong with the lights on for a week. But the very worst for me was "Tortue Garden" which was a collection, connected by the garden of a house or some damn thing. I don't know for sure because I was a few years old when I saw the trailer. My uncle Melvin went to see it the next day and brought home the promotional "Torture Garden" seeds and planted them outside my window. My therapist swears this means nothing, though.

kats Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 03:16 PM EST

Sarah~ I only watched it this morning so I haven't actually tried to sleep yet. I'll check in again tomorrow.

ClareClare~ Yes! Dead Silence commercials sent me right out of my living room. Could not stay in the room.

Jess Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 02:36 PM EST

Speaking of Uncle Stevie, I just checked out the Carrie trailer and they spelled his name incorrectly in it. Unbelievable! Look!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJe0iVo8y3A

Jess Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 02:27 PM EST

To EW editors: Please ask Uncle Stevie to write his next article on this topic. I'd LOVE to know which trailers gave him nightmares! (Also, notice how many of the posts here are attributed to film versions of Mr. King's writings!)

Sarah Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 02:24 PM EST

Yes, the frogs are bad. Especially when they can jump through panes of glass! I just watched the trailer for Jaws and was reminded of how much even the poster from that movie scared me as a kid. Here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zkYRD51I34
"See it before you go swimming." Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!

Coleen Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 11:27 AM EST

Sarah, thanks for the link! I just watched it with my 13 yr old. It seems so cheesy now, but I still have a weird thing about frogs.

Stephanie Travitsky Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 10:40 AM EST

The trailer for Magic was creepy. How about Squirm, and Tourist Trap? Tourist Trap was the early 80's House of Wax about a wakko who made wax dummies out of humans and controlled them with his mind. It freaked me out.

Joe from NYC Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 10:25 AM EST

Jessie, that movie with the spider in the mouth is Wes Craven's 1981 flick Deadly Blessing. But a similar experience for me is a trailer from my childhood from the 70's. The genre was an offshoot of blaxploitation and horror, like Blackula. I can't remember the title, but it involved a Satanic-looking black fellow, a screaming woman trying to escape a darkly lit basement and a single lightbulb going out. It gave me the heebie-jeebies. That and the old WPIX bad claymation of the hand sinking going, "CHILLLLLLLLLLLERRRRR!!!"

clare-clare Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 09:45 AM EST

I also have a major problem w/ ventriloquist dummies. That MAJIC trailer did nothing to ease those fears! Gah! At least viewing it is better than I got w/ DEAD SILENCE (that newer ventriloquist movie that appeared not too long ago). I couldn't even watch it. Had to close my eyes and cover my ears. Dive beneath pillows/blankets if I could. Haha. Yup.

Sarah Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 09:33 AM EST

Coleen: If you were out with your family to see a Disney movie like I was (I'm 38) and saw that before the movie, you must've been freaked out as well! I found the trailer in case you dare to check it out again!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068615/trailers-screenplay-E15995-10-2
kats: good for you for checking out the Magic trailer. How did you sleep last night???
jennivg: Your sister sounds sadistic like mine! When I was little, she used to terrorize me with the "green gushy fingers" story. Anyone else remember that, or is that just a Pennsylvania thing?

jennivg Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 08:25 AM EST

My sister still randomly freaks me out by saying "magic is fun...when your dead!"

Joe Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 07:54 AM EST

The Blair Witch Project and The Sixth Sense the whole bit about the hairs on your arms bit freaked me out

Jessie Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 07:47 AM EST

As a small child in the mid 70's I saw a trailer for a movie(can't remember which one), that scarred me for life. In it, a girl/woman is lying in bed. Hands come out from beneath and force her mouth open as a huge, black spider drops down into her. Does anyone remember the actual plot of this movie?

kats Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 06:13 AM EST

Sarah~ Wasn't going to watch the trailer for "Magic" but couldn't resist. I may yet have nightmares about that one. I don't like any ventriloquist dummy but that particular one may be the worst.

Coleen Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 05:57 AM EST

Sarah, you and I must be around the same age cause I totally remember that frog movie with the screen shot of the frog that had the lady's hand hanging out of its mouth. Scared me to death as a kid and I still get the willies when I think about it. And ditto to all the ventriloquist dummy movies. Hate those.

Grover Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 03:32 AM EST

I agree wholeheartedly on Magic. That dummy (his name was Fats) creeped me out like very little ever had. I remember a couple of commercials on late night TV in the late 70's or early 80's that had the same effect. One was for Phantasm: the Tall Man is the definition of creepy, to say nothing of the silver spheres. There was also one for a flick called Nurse Sherry, "for people who've seem Carrie, and The Excorcist, and Ruby...) Her eyes glowing green made me cover mine. Speaking of eyes, how about The Eyes of Laura Mars?

Matthew Cruz Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 02:46 AM EST

The remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre had a classically creepy trailer. There was a moment when the screen went black and all that could be heard was a woman whimpering and screaming. It was unnerving.

Too bad the film itself wasn't as scary.

Jessica Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 12:47 AM EST

28 days later!! I went to see, I think it was X-men, on opening day, and the trailer creeped me out so badly I actually had nightmares! Interestingly, I went to see Xmen again a week or two later and there was a less scary version of the 28 days later trailer playing. It made me wonder if someone had complained...

META Sat, Jul 14, 2007 at 12:19 AM EST

daisyj: If Underdog makes you fear for the future of man kind. Look up the trailer fot the BRATZ movie. Then die inside.

Sarah Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 08:56 PM EST

I have bad news. The "Magic" trailer is on YouTube. Now I'll never get to sleep.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7JJK8W-UQs

claudenorth Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 08:48 PM EST

When I was a kid, the local UHF stations would always run the commercial for BEYOND THE DOOR (an Italian rip-off of THE EXORCIST starring Juliet Mills) during their afternoon cartoons. I remember that commercial scaring the hell out of me and my sister, and we would run and hide behind my Dad's easy chair whenever it came on. I also remember being scared by the commercial for BLACULA.

jennit Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 08:43 PM EST

Man, I can't believe anybody remembers "Magic." That commercial would ONLY come on late at night when I was all alone in our haunted basement. Never saw the movie and never will, I'm too chicken. And that's saying quite a bit considering I saw "The Pirate Movie" 6 times...in the theatre.

Sarah Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 08:38 PM EST

kats: I know, it was a tough time for us to be 9-10 years old, wasn't it, with all those freaky horror movies? I'm glad I wasn't the only one scared to DEATH by Salem's Lot! Don't know if I'm brave enough to watch it again. My husband loves Blair Witch Project, but I CANNOT watch that ever again! Just thinking about the last scene in that one is giving me chills and, again, I'M ALL ALONE!!! Here's another one: does anyone remember Zelda from Pet Sematary (1989)? The way she would scurry out of the shadows across the room like a cockroach? Ughhhhh! Still gives me nightmares.

kats Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 08:30 PM EST

Sarah~ Have to agree with you again. "Salem's Lot" is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. My husband loves it. Just bought it on dvd for his birthday. And ventriloquist dummies are about the scariest thing out there. I completely remember the promo for that movie "Magic" too. Scares me just thinking about it. Dummies, dolls, clowns, oh my!

Sarah Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 08:30 PM EST

Sorry, but I just thought of another one. Remember when they re-released The Exorcist, and they had that scene with Regan crawling around the stairs backwards and upside down like a spider? Ick ick, I just creeped myself out and I'M ALL ALONE!!!!

Sarah Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 08:24 PM EST

stacydarc & dan: You guys are right! Just looked it up on imdb.com and that's the one! Thank you (I think!) for naming that movie. And yes, it was a ventriloquist dummy. Don't know why I typed marionette. Maybe I'm scared to death of those things too???

stacydarc Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 08:09 PM EST

p.s. the murderous entity in Magic was a ventriloquist dummy (stringless, child sized and controlled from beneath), not a marionette (small puppet with strings controlled from above)..because that would be silly.

stacydarc Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 08:05 PM EST

Freaky! I was just coming here to say "Magic"! Also, there was a really scary radio commercial for "The Shining" when it first came out as a book. White Middle class whimpy dad voice "Danny? Son? You've done something wrong and I want to take your punishment like a man. Danny? (Voice gradually drops two octaves and roars like a madman) TAAKE YOUR PUNISHMENT LIKE A MAAAAAN!!" Brrr.

dan Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 07:58 PM EST

sara, i think you are thinking of Magic with Anthony Hopkins and Ann-Margaret... Creepy!

Sarah Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 07:31 PM EST

Frogs (1972): put a crimp on my relationship with my then BFF Kermit the Frog (I was 4)
The TV version of Salem's Lot from the late '70s (couldn't sleep for two weeks straight imagining that creepy vampire kid floating up to my window)
Some horror flick, also from the late '70s, featuring a murderous marionette. Can't think of the name. Scared the bejeebers out of me and it made me despise marionettes as much as that clown from Poltergeist!

mtank Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 06:46 PM EST

I know the movie itself was incredibly silly, but that teaser trailer for "Jaws 3-D", wherein the narrator drones on about the first 2 films in the series, as we see a 1st person head-above-water POV shot...and a fin rapidly coming towards the us, frightened me so bad, I remember diving head first into my dad's lap, spilling his soda to the floor. The fin just comes right up to the screen before banking left, revealing the title, but I SERIOUSLY thought that shark was gonna pop right up, and OUT, of the screen. My sincerest thanks for several nightmares to whichever projectionist attached that to the film we were seeing (I think it was "Twilight Zone: The Movie". Damn, I'm old.)

Amy Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 06:35 PM EST

I saw the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre on my 18th birthday and couldn't even make it through the film. I slept with my lights on until I went to college nine months after that.

Caitlin Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 06:08 PM EST

When I went to see Talladega Nights, all the trailers were all warm and fuzzy until the Grudge 2 trailer came on. I nearly had a panic attack.

katie jane Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 06:05 PM EST

i was 15 when the trailer for "28 Days Later" came on and i cried. in front of my friends. it was great (not). zombies = SO NOT my thing.

Alison Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 05:59 PM EST

the trailer for Stephen King's 'It'...scary clown with even more scary teeth.

Alison Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 05:58 PM EST

the trailer for Steve Kings 'It'...scary clown with even more scary teeth.

danielle Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 05:29 PM EST

I know this sounds completely rediculous but the fake trailer for BIG where they make the movie seem as though its about pedophilia scared me to death. The trailer is so creepy that The pure innocent image of Tom Hanks and the actual movie have both been forever ruined for me.

nicky Fri, Jul 13, 2007 at 05:18 PM EST

i agree with the nikki before me.

lol

The trailer for that ventriliquist movie scares the crap out of me!! With that old lady and her dummies, I don't remember what it was called, something like mrs. something or whatever, it's new, i don't even think it's on dvd yet. and the messengers trailer scared me too, with that foot under the sheet and the girl crawling on the ceiling......they gave me the creeps and it chills me just to write about them!

I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but the trailer for "Underdog" makes me fear for the future of mankind.

Anything with clowns, puppets, marionettes or dummies. There was one out when I was a kid that scared the living daylights out of me from the small screen and there was another one recently. I have to change the channel or leave the room anytime one of them pops up. BTW, I'm still afraid of clowns....and 37!

EP:

I know what movie you are talking about. It was a thriller with Britney Murphy and yeah that line was creepy.

I agree with "The Others". The fake trailor for "Thanksgiving" was pretty creepy, especially the edited version of the girl on the trampolene. That is no way to get a hysterctomy.

That movie with the girl who knows a secret number was freaky. the line "i'll never teeeeelll" was scary at first, but became a parody of itself when the ad started to saturate.

The ad for "The Others" also scared me. The "I am your daughter" scene was scary.

The new ads for the re-released Excorsist were scary as heck! The chick walking down the stairs backwards stuff gave me a chill just writing about it.

And it scared me to death to see that Dane Cook AND Jessica Simpson were making a movie together. Employee of the Month? The only thing scarier is the thought that either of these no talents may someday breed.

If you remember back to when The Others first came out and the trailer ended with the creepy little girl/old crone saying the line: "Are you mad? I am your daughter" That gave me chills every time I saw it, but now that the scene has been parodied to death, it has lost its mojo.

When I was 9 or 10 (I think) a movie came out called "It's Alive" and it showed a baby's bassinet and cutesy baby music at first. Then as the camera panned around to the other side there was a claw-like hand hanging out of it. I was at my neighbor's house and was too scared to walk the 40 feet to my house.
