Things That Make Me Die Inside (Teen Choice Awards Edition)

Jaslene_l From a press release we just received:

New York, NY (July 2007) America's Next Top Model winner Jaslene Gonzalez [pictured] has been nominated for a 2007 Teen Choice Award in the category Choice TV: Female Variety/Reality Star. Other nominees in the category include Paris Hilton, Lauren Conrad, Jordin Sparks, and New York. The next wave of voting begins Wednesday, August 1st at http://www.fox.com/teenchoice/.

Incidentally, I also died last year when I saw that hot tub on the stage. Should the Teen Choice Awards really strive to be "sexier" than the VMAs?

According to me "I feel making beautiful clothes is an art and it requires creativity and time, to make somebody look beautiful".

I hate that the some winners weren't given their surfboards because they weren't televised. Allison Mack won for tv choice sidekick and it wasn't televised (I assume because she isn't that Hollywood's typical hot type (although I think she's gorgeous)) and she never got her board!

Lauren Conrad is that 'The Hills' reality star, right? I never knew her last name but I never cared enough to look. And Eli, I guess you never watched Flavor of Love 1 or 2 (or its spin off 'I Love New York') if you don't know who New York is. Anyway, recall every bad stereotype of black women you can think of, multiply that by a thousand and then picture a tranny with a nice body. That's New York. She's so infuriating and annoying a reality star, she even makes The Apprentice's unlikeable Omarosa look like Mother Teresa in comparison.

I could make a comment here about how the subject of this post reflects the ongoing deeply disturbing sexualization of adolescence...and I just did.

Paris will win, she's the flavor of the week. People are over New York.

Yea, we need Sanjaya in this batch to replace boring self-involved useless Lauren Conrad.

And NEW YORK? From VH1 fame? Kids are REALLY watching that? The terrorists have won.

Eli Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 12:40 PM EST

okay, maybe i'm living under a rock, but who's New York?

Chris Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 12:34 PM EST

NEW YORK!!!! That my friends is great proof of how great this generation of teens really is.

GeeMoney Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 11:16 AM EST

Well, the Teen Choice people are just doing what they need to do for ratings (the hot tub thing). Paris Hilton should have been nominated for "Choice Jailbird of 2007". It could have been her, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Tim Sizemore in the category together.

this is depressingly awful....

djm Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 11:02 AM EST

I don't mind Jaslene being nominated - I am sure there are a lot of teens that watch America's Next Top Model. Jordin Sparks is a good choice as well. But the rest? Holy cow - we are so in trouble.

GingerCat Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 10:22 AM EST

I'm fervently hoping Jordin Sparks wins. She seems like the only appropriate candidate.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Mandi! I feel the same exact way about the hot tub. The sight of it makes me queasy. Scary things we're doing to our children.

NEW YORK????? IS THIS A JOKE????

Ceballos Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 09:27 AM EST

I agree with the sentiment on this board. If anything it should be New York's pic accompanying the blog item instead of Jaslene. Personally, I found the show trashtastically entertaining, but I wouldn't knowingly let my teen daughter within 100 yards of that show.

Tygor1 Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 09:14 AM EST

You know that the world's going to "Cloverfield" when a couple of nominees are New York (crazy, foul-mouthed reality star) and Paris Hilton (crazy reality star who's been arrested for DUI)

No Brand Woman Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 09:04 AM EST

Our teen girls are in serious need of some positive female role models.
And New York? Seriously???

Ed Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 08:28 AM EST

Our society has gone there - Britney Spears! But we're over her so we need to find someone else to bring up so we can tear them down.

Gretchen Weiners Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 08:17 AM EST

New York? Teens and pre-teens watched I Love New York? Oh my... I weep for the future.

Chris Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 08:13 AM EST

NEW YORK?

I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Stephen Tue, Jul 31, 2007 at 06:18 AM EST

Paris shouldn't count, "Simple Life" was canceled. And where's Sanjaya, the most famous female reality TV star?
