Hallows_l (Editor's Note: This post is spoiler-free, but click on the links below at your own risk.)

With less than 40 hours left before J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows officially goes on sale at bookstores on Friday at midnight, rumors and leaks about the final showdown between Harry Potter and He Who Must Not Be Named have been flying around like crazy Cornish pixies. (Seems some bookstores and online merchants jumped the gun and started retailing or delivering pre-orders of the book as early as Tuesday.) Impatient as I am, I'm loving all the little tidbits that I’ve found scouring the Internet for hours, but many diehard Potterphiles feel that the loose lips of embargo-defying readers and journalists threaten to ruin their last rendezvous with Harry's world. While I will not reveal any such spoilers in this post, posted below are some links leading to information about the plot and ending of Book 7, which I can’t verify as true or not. The choice to look is yours...

Excellent book. Finished it in less than twelve hours, could barely tear myself away. Thrilled, sad, amazed and heartbroken all at once. Now I just need others to finish so I can discuss. My husband watches the movies but has not read the books, so he really doesn't understand....

I just read the review of Deathly Hallows on the New York Times web site yesterday. What amazed me is that the article said the author bought the book in an NYC book store this week. How is that possible? At least the review didn't reveal much at all, so that didn't bother me. What will bother me is if my husband steals my copy tomorrow and reads the last few pages like he's threatening to. I may have to institutionalize him if he does.

I have never read a Harry Potter book and probably never will (not my cup of tea; I prefer mysteries and adventure stories). However, even if a quick summary of the plot appeared on my doorstep, I would never publish it online to ruin the millions of people who want to enjoy reading the book. That's just not fair.

kats Fri, Jul 20, 2007 at 12:14 PM EST

I try really hard not to ruin the experience for other people. When book 6 came out I finished it in like 3 days and no one else I knew came even close. It was so hard not to tell anyone, not because of spoiling it for them (I would not do that) but because I needed someone to understand and grieve with me. It was so frustrating. I'm certain that it will be the same way this time around as I'm obsessive about reading the books once I finally get them.

I try not to get carried away by the human vice that is greed. This is the last book, and even if I'm getting it on Saturday I won't read it till I've re-read the 6th book.. it's just more effective to refresh on the back-story before getting to the nitty gritty of book 7. My biggest fear though, is that if I'm reading it at a public place some dipsh** will walk by and just spoil it outloud! Many people out there are truely awful.

I will admit - I have read the 'carpet book' as its becoming known...I do believe it to be the real HP7...but I have not shared one detail with anyone about it...I read it so that I would not have to stumble upon spoilers..if this isn't the real book, then when my delivery arrives tomorrow, so much the better for me...but I will say, if it is indeed the true book (which I believe it to be) then it is a fantastic read...I cried and cried thru the whole freakin' thing...and that's not meant to be a spoiler...I'm having hard time knowing this is the last book...see- no spoilers!

kats Fri, Jul 20, 2007 at 09:18 AM EST

I'm so tempted but I just can't look. I've waited two years for this book to come and waiting one more day won't kill me. I want to have it all play out as it's supposed to, the suspense, the tears, the excitement. Can't wait til tomorrow!

I can relate Ruby. "Spoiler lovin Louise" and "Wait Patiently until Saturday Louise" are having a bloody battle to the death. So far, thank God, "Wait Patiently until Saturday Louise" is prevailing.

A.S.P. Fri, Jul 20, 2007 at 04:04 AM EST

To be fair, a lot of fans haven't been reading spoilers. They've been reading a leaked version of the book itself, called "the carpet book" (which as another person pointed out, has been confirmed by the NYT to be real).

****SPOILER*****

After Harry enters a pub, Heroime is trying to parellel park her broom, then...the last 5 pages are blank!

mjryan Fri, Jul 20, 2007 at 12:38 AM EST

It seems that the New York Times has just confirmed that the 'carpet book' is, indeed, the real deal. That'll show Bloomsbury to compare their review to the Boston Tea Party!

While I can understand your argument, I can't 100% agree because I find it comforting that so many people are excited to READ. I think hype over literature is better than hype over Brit-Brit's dark bits.

Ceballos Thu, Jul 19, 2007 at 09:39 PM EST

I know this may seem like a silly question, but, it's been so long since J.K. Rowling's last book and us fans have waited all that time for the new installment.

So my question is, after waiting so long, why in the world would you go and read a spoiler a week or two before you FINALLY get the book in your hands?

Terri Thu, Jul 19, 2007 at 08:24 PM EST

Huge Harry Potter fan; can not wait for the book. But people THiS IS A BOOK. This much attention hasn't been given to the freakin missing White House files on the war or Cheney's secret rooms. It's unreal--I'm usually not of this mindset but we're in the middle of a REAL WAR WHERE REAL PEOPLE ARE DYING and theres more focus on this book. Like I said, I am excited it's coming out; but I really wish people would put this in perspective. It's a BOOK. It's an awsome and wonderful tale but I wish there was this much ire over the lack of WMDs.

Dominique L. Thu, Jul 19, 2007 at 06:40 PM EST

Never fear, Stephen: many spoilers conflict with one another, and some just don't make sense. Don't believe anything until DH is in your possession. (That's what I'm telling myself anyway...)

Stephen Thu, Jul 19, 2007 at 06:20 PM EST

Oh God! I'm a f***ing idiot. My curiosity got the best of me, and now I'm filled with self-loathing. I can only pray they weren't true. Please, nobody commit the moronic sin I just committed. (And I'm this upset even though I stopped reading the series after book 3).

Sharon Thu, Jul 19, 2007 at 05:34 PM EST

I'm disgusted by all the people who feel that they need to ruin something that people have been anticipating for years and years. As an avid fan of Potter, I'm avoiding all spoilers as best as I can, since searching for these spoilers only encourages people to post them.

Chris Thu, Jul 19, 2007 at 05:32 PM EST

Why can't people wait? It shows exactly how selfish we are that we can't have patience for a book. My God, the surprise is over. Those reviewers should be ashamed. Yes, it's legal. But you look like a 5-year-old at Christmas time that opens his or her presents early...luckily he or she get reprimanded for the deeds.

Matthew Cruz Thu, Jul 19, 2007 at 05:18 PM EST

I took a picture with the book!

Ruby Thu, Jul 19, 2007 at 05:05 PM EST

Since these spoilers have come out, I must admit, it's been a battle between two Ruby's. There's the Ruby who has waited so long for this moment, and wants the joy of experencing it all in one fall swoop. And the Ruby who is so curious to know, surprises be damned. So far, the first Ruby has won. But only by a hair. I had to have my boyfriend yell at me over email. Will someone please put me in a time machine to Friday night.
