How I spent my summer vacation... with Eva Longoria

Longoria_l ¡Hola, PopWatchers! I just got back from a two-week vacation in lovely Barcelona, and while the trip was designed to be a much-needed pop-culture detox (I didn't even log on to PopWatch during my time abroad — ¡gasp!) there was one celebrity I simply couldn't avoid: Eva Longoria. No, BBC World News wasn't relentless in covering the run-up to the Desperate Housewives star's weekend nuptials to basketball star Tony Parker (I took that as proof of God's existence), but rather, I couldn't walk two blocks without seeing one of her ads for Magnum ice-cream bars. Seriously, they were everywhere. And so, to ensure I had something to blog about my first Monday back on the job, I took a picture of one of the inescapable sidewalk banners, and I also broke down and sampled the Magnum (double chocolate flavor) — which struck me as a richer, more sinful version of the Dove bar. I'll say this for Longoria, she may be a shameless shill, but she's got good taste when it comes to one of Jay Manuel and Tyra Banks' favorite treats.

Christine, Be sure not to miss Gaudi's major works -- Sagrada Familia and La Pedrera. For the latter, the roof closes a little early, so give yourself time to see it; it's amazing. Fundacio Joan Miro and the Picasso museum are both absolutely terrific, and will give you a new sense of appreciation for both artists. And if you've got a car, it's definitely worth a day trip to Girona. Hope that helps!

What is with europe and the ice cream bar adds EVERYWHERE? It seems like every store you walk buy is advertising ice cream bars.

Is anyone else sick of Eva Longoria, like I am, and can't wait until Toy Parker divorces her for and marries a younger woman?!?!??!

She also appears in TV ads for Magnum all across continental Europe. Magnum is simply too decadent. I once in a blue moon treat myself to an almond chocolate Magnum , but they have a figs and walnut Cornetto which i can't stay away from!!!

The ice cream bars look great, but the picture of Eva turns me off. The attention she gets in the media is way out of proportion to her career thus far. Slezak, my sympathies for being unable to escape her even in Spain.

That looks delicious!

oooooohh! Magnum bars! I had forgotten about them. When I spent a summer in Austria, we used to alternate our days eating a Magnum at night and then jogging that bad boy off the next morning. It was worth every decadent, luscious and creamy morsel. ::sigh:: They must lace those bars with crack or something.

Does anybody know if Magnum ice cream is available in Canada? Thanks!

I spent a whole semester in Spain and I just had the boring old Magnum posters with no celebrities! Totally not fair. But I did get trapped into the Spanish obsession with Penelope Cruz. I didn't realize how amazing she was until every media outlet told me so.

Hey, can I get that Jay Manuel comment as a ringtone? :p

Adrien Brody is dating a spanish actress, so he is pretty famous there, also because he just made a movie where he plays a spanish bullfighter (Manolete). Christina, please don't miss the Parc Guell! And the Magnum bars are incredibly delicious!

I was just in Barcelona and Madrid last week, and I have to say that while Eva Longoria was omnipresent, my favorite American celeb ads were those of Adrien Brody for Schweppes. It was so surprising to see his smug grin at every bus stop... I didn't think he was famous much anymore, and I certainly wasn't expecting to see him selling tonic in Spain.

Coach's Mistress Mon, Jul 9, 2007 at 04:06 PM EST

Hey, now that I'm staring at this poster (for the ice cream, not Eva) isn't that the Good Humor ice cream logo? I'm pretty sure it is.

Coach's Mistress Mon, Jul 9, 2007 at 04:05 PM EST

You only sampled ONE of these treats??? Looking at the poster, I wouldn't have been able to choose just one. I would've tried one every day for 2 weeks for a better blogging experience.
