Was Rob Schneider's Lindsay Lohan parody out of line?

Jul 25, 2007, 08:18 PM | by Simon Vozick-Levinson

Categories: Celebrity Feuds, Television, The View, Things That Make Me Die Inside

Lindsay Lohan's recent DUI arrest has sparked the usual spike in anxious headlines and snarky jokes. That's how Hollywood works, right? You screw up in public and you're in for an unstoppable barrage of not-so-nice publicity. But this time, one thing's different: Barbara Walters isn't playing along anymore. She used her bully pulpit on The View this morning to lash out at those who make light of Lohan's troubles. Her breaking point was a Tonight Show appearance by that noted arbiter of sensitivity, Rob Schneider; it seems that since Lohan was unable to make her scheduled visit to Tuesday night's show, Schneider dressed up in drag, donned a blonde wig, and played the absent starlet's role on Leno's couch. According to Walters, this bit of humor "just seems so mean." So does she have a point, or what? (Check out the gag for yourself below.)

Of course she does! Like virtually everything else the guy does these days, Schneider's routine was not only in fairly poor taste, but painfully unfunny to boot. Leno: "What happened last night?"  Schneider/Lohan: "Well, I'm Irish, Jay. For the Irish, St. Paddy's Day is like the whole summer." Studio audience: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!" Oof. This drivel went on for 10 interminable minutes, long enough for Schneider to cross all sorts of lines, not just the ones surrounding Lohan's dignity.

But here's the thing: Schneider's antics may be out of line, but what about all the people who are invading Lohan's privacy in real life — the mainstream media outlets that broadcast this 21-year-old's unflattering mugshot far and wide, speculate about her partying habits, and do interviews with her troubled, way-too-talkative parents? The professional vultures who are out there flooding the zone on this story are being far more exploitative toward Lohan than any lame jokester. So, sure, Walters was right to tell Schneider and Leno to knock it off. But if she's really concerned about getting people to treat Lohan with a little human respect, she should aim a little higher than Deuce Bigalow. Shouldn't she?

Nat X Fri, Jul 27, 2007 at 02:19 PM EST

Ugh, I have no sympathy for Lohan. Any non-celebrity, non-millionaire would've been thrown in jail several times for her actions (including all the underage drinking in clubs). What Lohan, Hilton, and other self-absorbed stars need is a trip to Darfur or Afghanistan. Show them what true suffering is and that their lives are truly pathetic. They have the money and stage to do such powerful things around the world. They make me sick.

I think almost everyone has had a friend or family member killed or injured by a drunk driver. Addicts only care about acquiring their next drink or fix. Not themselves. Not other people.

AL Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 10:02 PM EST

Frickin hilarious - especially the built in flask.
When you make your life a train wreck, people will love to gawk and laugh at the mess.

echo Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:34 PM EST

You better believe that Walters was doing this same dance just weeks ago before Paris was released from jail. Suddenly a renewed "friendship" with Kathy Hilton and using her hen-forum to soften Paris' image. No doubt, her mother asked for damage control help in exchange for an exclusive for the crypt-keeper. Two weeks later, Ba-Ba has an omelet all over her face as the Hilton family suddenly turned mercenary. What betrayal! This is looking a lot like a repeat of this tired old kiss-kiss routine that Walters pulls that is only to serve her best interest. I would fully expect that Lohan will soon begin to text Walters instead of Billy Bush and maybe Babs will find a new friendship with Dina Lohan, etc., etc. After all, Lohan was formerly part of the ABC/Disney clan.....maybe just one interview for old times sake?

ebjack Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 04:35 PM EST

Excuse me! It was a COMEDY show, right? ONLY bad behavior is adaptable to comedy. Leno is not intended to be informative or enlightening. The problem is that celebrity stuff headlines as so-called NEWS items, and us poor suckers are starving for actual news -- Good News about Good Actions. WE ARE SICK for expecting shows like THE VIEW (and anything else Barbara Walters appears on) to be credible.

Sarah Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 04:26 PM EST

How about "Attempted and Achieved Idiocy"?

Skaetur Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 03:51 PM EST

I will also accept "Attempted Suicide" if your not happy calling it "Attempted Murder" =P
Bahbwa is too old and ugly for me to listen to, so I don't, not even when she was "respected" like a hundred years ago. She was old and ugly then, too.

Skaetur Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 03:48 PM EST

LiLo is retarded, and what about the thousands and thousands of people who leave the bar every night.. in thier cars... and try and make it home. Shouldn't driving drunk be "Attempted Murder"...?

Bennie Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 03:33 PM EST

I never saw the bit last night and when I tried to watch it on youtube they have already pulled it off. Anyway, even it the skit wasn't funny I still don't feel any sympaty towards all those demented starlets like Paris and Lindsay. They get what they deserved. I read that maybe Lindsay might receive six months jail time so I hope they lock her up and her mother too, who, while her daughter is hitting rock bottom, she still has time to talk about how much love supposedly she has for her.

Sarah Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 03:26 PM EST

I agree with everyone who's bashing Baba Wawa for her actions in this mess. She's such a media whore, she'll do anything to get an "exclusive" complete with sniveling and tears. Nauseating.

dma69 Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 03:15 PM EST

When will these celebrities learn that if you say or do something stupid, it's fodder for the tabloids and late-night talk shows? LL was suppose to be on Leno that night, she cancelled because of her latest stupid mistake, so someone had to fill the void. Granted, I'm not a Rob Schnider fan, but he was brilliant on Leno, dressing as LL complete with electronic ankel bracelet/flask.

As for Baba Wawa, STFU!!! Who made you the authority of the Party Girl Brigade? You lost your crebility when you defended Paris. And now that you're defending LL, you might as well take early (actually long overdue) retirement. You are a disgrace to your profession.

Phil Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 02:42 PM EST

image, not imagine

Phil Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 02:41 PM EST

The reason I don't feel Leno was out of line is because FACT: Lohan is paid MILLIONS to star in movies, which you either love or hate, but her JOB is to not only star in these films, but then SELL them to the public. She went to rehab right after the opening of her last flick, Georgia Rule in may, and by consequence, regardless of what you thought of that film, its box office returns suffered. The exec's at the movie company behind I Know Who Killed Me, have gotta wana kill her themselves since all this negative press the week her new opens for them is surely going to cost them this weekend! I'm going to a screening tonight, so I'll know if the film is good or not, but for the paying public, you've now got a negative imagine surrounding the star who then canceled all press interviews to promote the new movie, because no one would be interested in asking questions about the movie & instead about her personal life & arrest. In summary, Lindsay FAILED at the job they hired her to do.

fenn138 Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 02:32 PM EST

Anything worth taking seriously is worth making fun of

stacydarc Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 01:57 PM EST

I can see both sides to this. Yes Lindsay has given tacit consent to her life being disected by continuing to persue a public profession. And, though I don't agree with the current drug laws, I think the law needs to be applied equally. Still, it is a little unseemly, all these grown men dogpiling on young girl. Humor is supposed to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. Going for the Lindsay/Britney hot mess jokes just seems lazy. It seems their humor would better be spent skewering the hypocrites in Washingtons whose foibles actually harm us than continually going for the cheap shots.
To expect honor from Rob "Most Racist Asian Sterotype portrayal since Breakfast at Tiffany's" Schneider might be hoping for too much.

Martin Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 01:46 PM EST

I thought the point of the post was to figure out if Leno and Schneider were out of line, which yes, they were. You don't kick a man when he's down, so the same should apply to Lindsay Lohan, who clearly is quite sick.
Let's not forget that the root of this mess - which has been heightened by tabloid culture - is a disease that runs in her family.
As for Leno...this is why he doesn't get nominated for an Emmy (which, granted, have demonstrated an egregious lack of judgment - again). Sophomoronic humor isn't funny.
As for the actresses to which Lohan's be comprared - we don't know what they're up to behind closed doors. Just because they keep it together in public it doesn't mean they don't like to come to South Beach and get wild around the time they take on a risqué role to debunk their princessy on-screen personae.

carole Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 01:44 PM EST

Excuse me but wasn't The View the show that aired Lohan's mug shot on Blackberry? B.Walters should check her own hypocrisy before judging a stupid, unfunny joke on leno.

No fan of LiLo Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 01:26 PM EST

Much like Paris Hilton, Lohan thrived on media attention. When SHE wanted it. Now that she's dug herself in deep, she and those who merrily documented her every move (and drink) shouldn't be surprised or feign sympathy for her.

Phil Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 01:01 PM EST

Ya know, its atruly a SHAME. Lindsay needs HELP, badly, and obviously, like fellow rehab resident, Britney Spears, she is surrounding herself with people who are telling her what she wants to hear rather than what she NEEDS to hear. Eventhough she was arrested with a 2nd D.U.I. & possession charges, I have no doubt she is still LOVING all this media attention, and having whatever assistants & friends she is surrounding herself with checking the net, cause YES, she is a media whore & doesn't even grasp, that she looks like the biggest idiot in Hollywood right now, so who cares if Rob Schneider mocked her? Honestly, I don't think he took it far enough. Maybe he could have had Ross the Intern come out in drag as Dina Lohan and scold her!! Seriously, Lindsay has all this money, IF SHE DIDN'T BLOW IT ON DRUGS, maybe she should actually hire herself a FULL time driver? She's going to have to now, cause lord knows when she'll be able to operate a motor vehicle again. She disgusts me anymore.

mike Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 12:53 PM EST

I forgot another "loser" in this equation. The celebrity mad public that drives the new tabloids. They have created the demand for Lindsey, Britney, Paris, ect. The girls should get the help they need in private before someone dies!

mike Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 12:42 PM EST

There are no winners here!
Rob Schneider's career highlight was the copier guy on SNL. The man has no self-respect or sense of humor.
Jay Leno should know better. If they booked Lindsey, they should have had a back-up plan better than this.
Barbara Walters lost all credibility since she started engineering the controversy train called The View. She probably does want an interview.
Lindsey herself, should stop working. She may not have a choice now. And get rid of most of the people around her. None of them seem to be helping.

JenJen Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 12:22 PM EST

Lindsay Lohan is addicted to media coverage. She has even said in interviews that she would worry if the paparazzi ever stopped taking her picture. She wants to be a celebrity more than she wants to be an actress. She has 100% brought this on herself. She needs to disappear for a year or so, and then make a fresh start like Drew Barrymore.

Matt Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 12:09 PM EST

Well - NBC pulled the video, so I can't tell if it's funny or not. But - Lohan brings this upon herself. How about she stay home? Stop doing this sh*t? Or, come on - the girl has more money than all of us combined. She can't HIRE a driver when she's out?? Sorry - no sympathy. Walters can go take a flying leap. She's all about trying to look good for and make nice with the celebs. Big phoney.

Peggy Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 12:06 PM EST

Like BW won't be trying to get an "exclusive" interview w/Lohan? Asking for every salacious detail of LL's drug use, drinking, sex life, her parents, etc.? Of course, it will be under the guise of "journalism", which in Walter's case translates to pandering to the tabloid reading demographic. That freak show atmosphere on Walter's "The View" this season was far from "nice",and she is now the decider of what is & isn't acceptable TV behavior? Sorry Babs, you lost any credibility as the voice of reason, when you allowed(and participated in) fighting, lying, & backstabbing on that show.

Peggy Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 12:06 PM EST

GeeMoney Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 11:57 AM EST

Get off of your high horse, people. When celebrities mess up, their crazy celebrity drama is FAIR game to comedians, not to mention the public. I don't recall anyone asking for sympathy concerning Robert Downey, Jr's situation, and it was the same as Lohan's.

Suck an egg, Bawba.

Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 11:42 AM EST

I remember reading a brief blurb in People magazine several years ago, right around the time that Freaky Friday came out. Lohan and some friends wanted to celebrate her birthday in a club, but were obviously very underage. Lohan pipes up to the door man "Don't you know who I am? I'm Lindsay Lohan". Of course, it didn't work, but she ended up getting in because a few people ended up recognizing her and snuck her past the doorman. Every time I read about Lindsay Lohan, I think of that. It's like the motto of the entitled: "Don't you know who I am?"

Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 11:37 AM EST

Publicity is a two way street; Lohan herself had said on occasion she doesn't know what she would do if people stopped wanting to take her picture, and of course has given/staged many many photo opportunities. Yet, when she does something bad, she cries about her privacy. The truth is, it's not privacy she craves, but to simply have her mistakes swept under the rug.

I'd feel bad for Lohan if she hadn't created this beast herself. Instead, I look at the way she's attempting to spin it, declaring "I'm innocent" even though she blew well over the legal limit once she got to the police station, and of course the multitude of excuses her sorry excuse for a mother puts forth. I have no pity. What if Lohan had killed someone while she was drunkenly chasing another car? Would Barbara Walters feel so sympathetic then? Lindsay Lohan has made her bed, and now she must lie in it.

Eric Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 11:14 AM EST

I read this article with a stunned look on my face, Simon are you trying to sleep with Lindsay or something?

Glad to see the general concensus in the comments is that she's getting what she deserves.

nathan Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 10:58 AM EST

I don't think it was out of line, but it wasn't exactly funny either, but then again I don't remember the last time Schneider did anything that was funny. The Madame Tussaud's "Prison Lohan" is damn funny though.

B Ro Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 10:42 AM EST

Thank you to the person who pointed out that this girl should just HIRE A DRIVER! My god, her and Paris have enough money. Dumb and dumber. As so many posters have stated, it is damn lucky she didn't hurt anyone. The bottom line is if these girls weren't in Hollywood, they'd be in the trailer park. Take a cue from Natalie Portman, Amanda Bynes, etc.

MEMEMEME Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 10:42 AM EST

It was funny for a while, but this chick passed funny a while ago. Spoiled celebrity or not, the girl is in danger of taking herself out, and maybe taking someone along with her since she insists on driving while she's high. Now it's life and death, and the media should be treating it at such. But of course, that will never happen until one of these young stars really kills someone.

Jenn67 Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 10:12 AM EST

I knew Lindsay's rehab didn't work the minute she got out and headed straight toward a club in Vegas. Who does that? Schneider and Leno's bit was in poor taste, yea, but when Lindsay decides not to take her problems seriously, then he's fair game. As for Babs, she lost all credibility with me ages ago, so what she says is inconsequential.

Galadriel Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 09:58 AM EST

jr: I like to think of myself as a liberal humanitarian, but I certainly don't feel sorry for Lohan or condone anything Barbara Walters had to say on the issue. Lohan has problems, yes, but she's an adult who can make her own conscious choices, and she CHOSE to ignore what her rehab counselors and AA supporters have tried to beat into her self-centered, delusional little head. Thus she has made her problems everyone else's problem by posing serious danger to others on the road. Throw her in jail and see how successful her lawyer will be in getting her out early after the whole Paris Hilton debacle.

jr Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 09:43 AM EST

generally speaking, rob schneider is an idiot. noodles is right about barbara. she's horrible! her treatment of Ross the Intern bordered on inappropriate. in any event, lohan deserves everything she gets from everyone, even if it's schneider. i've never thought he was funny but i saw the tonight show that night & i howled! can't believe there are stupid people out there who are offended by this. grow the F up already & stop being so damn sensitive! you people are probably bleeding heart liberals who are more than willing to let people make excuses for their horrid behavior and what's worse is YOU ACCEPT THOSE EXCUSES!! get over it! lohan is an idiot. anyone who feels sorry for her is a bigger idiot than she is!

junior Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 09:30 AM EST

While I agree that Rob Schneider is slowly making a career of offending people, this post's entire last paragraph is null and void. All mugshots in unsealed court cases are in the public domain and can be used by the media, no matter who it is, and the press (no mater how vicious) is just doing its job. The job Lindsay knows they would do if she drove around drunk and had coke on her. It's called making better life decisions.

to bootsycolumbia Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 09:29 AM EST

We all hope Lohan "gets the help she needs" before she kills somebody with her reckless behavior, but she's been in rehab twice this year, just having finished a six-week program last week. At this point, do you really think that giving her sympathy is going to help her? She needs a serious dose of tough love, and her parents obviously won't do it. The media (yes, including Leno and Schneider) are not to be blamed for being "mean" to her. She's getting what she deserves. She must suffer the consequences of her actions like an adult like the rest of us do. Welcome to the real world, honey!

Kevo Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 09:28 AM EST

That rehab center Lohan went to has to be the biggest joke in the world. Not only did they let her leave to film a movie, but they let her leave to celebrate her 21st birthday! Then like 2 or 3 days after leaving, she is arrested for a DUI! No sympathy for Lohan from here. She deserves what she is getting.

lw Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 09:26 AM EST

instead of going into seclusion after leaving rehab, lindsay went out to bars and posed wearing a bikini and an "alcohol monitor". she opens herself up to ridicule. yes, she's sick, and yes, she needs help that her momager and the others she surrounds herself with aren't willing to give her. perhaps prison is the best place for her: she'll be away from alcohol and her mom.

i like her mug shot. the photo is more flattering than her usual chuckie-doll-like grimace.

b walters is a sycophant. she doesn't care about lindsay; she wants to score the interview.

Sherri Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 09:19 AM EST

How many chances are they going to keep giving people.....She already was picked up Memorial Day weekend and they let her go. She needs to be stopped before she kills someone or someone else. She has problems and she doesn't have any role models and I feel bad for her but the law is the law and she needs to get help.

Tom Brazelton Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 09:14 AM EST

Walters may be trying to act above the fray by calling for people to cut Lohan some slack. But as a member of the media, just by invoking her name, she is culpable to the entire system of overexposure that brought Lohan to this point. She's still being paid attention to despite bad behavior. At this point, it's all she has left because no one believes in her talent anymore. Walters is no better than the rest of them. In fact, I would say she is MORE hypocritical because of it!

annie Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 09:08 AM EST

Where is the judge in the Paris Hilton case when you really need him? It's time for Lindsey Lohan to understand some of the repercussions of her actions. There are thousands of people sitting in jail for far less than the things she has done, and I, personally, am sick of seeing celebrities get away with these things time after time. Have some dignity...stand up and take some responsibility in your life.

Galadriel Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:59 AM EST

I know the father of Amanda Seyfried who co-starred with Lohan in Mean Girls. Amanda said that Lohan was a narcissitic, spoiled b*tch who was so rude and obnoxious to everyone on set, when the cast would make plans to go out together, they would purposely not tell Lohan so she wouldn't ruin the evening. That's what kind of person she is. Check out this article and draw your own conclusions:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19948326/
Lohan says ‘drugs ... not mine’ in e-mail
“I am innocent ... did not do drugs they’re not mine. I was almost hit by my assistant Tarin’s mom I appreciate everyone giving me my privacy,” Lohan wrote in an e-mail to “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush, the show reported on its Web site Tuesday night.
YEAH RIGHT! WHAT A SAD LITTLE LIAR!

Nix Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:58 AM EST

Who cares? It's not like she's an important person. Just a celebrity.

confidential Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:58 AM EST

Hey Simon.... Are you forgetting that this girl CHOSE to live in the eye of the media. She more wants to be a celebrity than actress so when the media and the people whom watch it judge her is it all that wrong?

MAC Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:49 AM EST

ZERO SYMPATHY FOR Lindsey Lohan! Who cares about her dignity and safety....she is a danger to other people, a careless drunk driver. I do not feel bad for her, I feel as though she is very lucky that she didn't kill someone.

Lauren Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:47 AM EST

So glad to see that people are not feeling sorry for that stupid stupid girl in these comments. I thought the skit was kind of funny (although I admit I didn't watch the whole thing). I also didn't see Barbara's comments, but I agree with other posters that if Lilo wants attention so badly, then she has to take the good with the bad. Maybe having everyone mock her will at least shame her into not acting so recklessly.

Rumpot Deckhand Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:31 AM EST

And one other thing. Lohan's insisting that the cocaine police found in her pocket "wasn't mine" makes her a total disgrace. She's no better than the ilk you see on every episode of COPS. Take her license, throw her in jail and make an example of her. Did Lohan learn nothing from Paris Hilton's escapades?

Ceballos Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:31 AM EST

Ewww...I just realized I mistakenly typed "Ferguson" instead of "Leno" in my post talking about how utterly unfunny the "parody" was.

I hereby publicly apologize to Craig Ferguson.

Rumpot Deckhand Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:26 AM EST

Nope, no sympathy for Lilo here. If the worst thing that happens to her regarding this incident is that Rob Schneider parodies her on Leno, then her life really IS a bed of roses. I agree with Walters' co-hosts' responses to her whining:
Elisabeth Hasselbeck says she stops feeling badly “when a person who’s drinking gets behind the wheel of a car when 43-thousand people a year are killed by drunk drivers.”

Meanwhile, Kelly Ripa has an idea about how to possibly scare Lindsay Lohan straight: have her spend time with Ripa’s sister, who was nearly killed by a drunken driver.

Ripa said on “Live With Regis and Kelly” she’d like Lohan to see “the physical agony a person lives with” after being hit by a drunken driver.

Sally Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:24 AM EST

I thought it was funny...maybe it went on too long, but you know what? Leno probably had his gag writers write it for Schneider...and what was Leno to do that Lindsay was off the show? Bring Schneider in as himself? but you know he was going to talk about it anyway.

Sadie Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 08:19 AM EST

I thought it was funny, and have no sympathy for LiLo. For those of you who are rising to defend her, do you even take a second look at someone in your community who has the same problems, folks who don't have the benefit of millions of dollars at their disposal?

Juan Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 07:34 AM EST

This is the deal. I have one problem with Rob's stchick...it wasn't that funny. At the hands of another comic, it would have been spot on. It still made me chuckle just slightly. It's time for Babs to retire though. The View mentions the unholy trio of firecrotch, swampwater ho, and the sluttante EVERY show! That's all.

Deb Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 07:34 AM EST

I didn't even know who Rob Schneider was, but I thought the skit was hilarious!!! I have zero tolerance for these Prima Donna actresses, Musicians, or Spoiled Rich Brats! They have no idea what it is like to struggle just to make the mortgage payment. Maybe if they did, they would learn that partying is not a priority. Get a life girls, and please just go away NOW.

Janice Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 07:16 AM EST

I have NO sympathy for Lohan whatsoever - so I disagree w/ you on this one Simon.

dpeabs Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 06:40 AM EST

So it wasn't hilarious...it didn't cross any lines, either. We are watching a spectacular trainwreck, people. You know you want to watch. Do I wish ill for her? Of course not, but she hasn't got a clue about personal responsibility. Stop watching her movies and let her hit rock bottom when the cash dries up. Then she'll find out who her friends are and she might be able to pull herself back up again. Want to enable her? Keep watching every move she makes.

ericalina Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 06:17 AM EST

are people just realizing NOW that what happens on leno's show is generally not funny? that hack should hang it up.

whol Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 01:44 AM EST

To care or not to care....? I choose not.

jake Thu, Jul 26, 2007 at 01:05 AM EST

Barbara walters is now the moral compass of what is acceptable behavior? When she lied right to our face about Star Jones leaving the show? I saw the Leno bit and it wasn't in bad taste.

David Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 11:49 PM EST

Dear Simon, you're just passing the blame on Schneider just because he is another celebrity that you can bash. Aren't you and your ilk also guilty of being mean to Lindsay Lohan and now that you have a celebrity to "put to shame" for being tactless and tasteless you think you can absolve yourself from all the nasty things you said about LL and other celebrities? To use a word from Lindsay's best film ever - you Simon Vozick-Levinson are a PLASTIC! bwahahahaha! schadenfruede is really one of your favorite emotions right? get a life.

cidigi Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 11:18 PM EST

Paychecks like the ones Miss Lohan gets can be positive and negative.
They're great to cover all the shopping she neems to do in abundance. The bad part is whatever you do is made public.
The minute she gets behind the wheel
after drinking, she becomes a menace
to everyone around her. She doesn't
seem to care about this. Maybe some
jail time would help cure this.

Dan Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 11:06 PM EST

Lindsay Lohan drove drunk putting other lives at risk and you are worried about her dignity? that is some screwed up values right there. I think she completely deserved it by putting herself in the position to not be able to make her appearance.

Stef Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 10:20 PM EST

At this point, is there an easier target than Lindsay Lohan? Rob Schneider has not been funny in years, and this is just ridiculous. Any jokes at Lindsay's expense stopped being funny the moment she started putting people's lives in danger by driving drunk without realizing the consequences. This girl is messed up in a major way, and Rob Schneider is just trying to save his own dying career.

Keri Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 10:09 PM EST

Um, sorry, all sympathy for Lindsay was all used up the moment she got behind the wheel. Again and again. You want to get wasted all the time and make a fool of yourself? Fine! Hire a driver! The poster who said that Lindsay would have to hit rock bottom and they hoped it happened soon-- so, would rock bottom be her killing an innocent person in her car? She is a criminal and deserves to be punished as such.

Leno put this tasteless stuff on his show--he is the most inappropriate, unfeeling and unfunny person on TV. He can't be replaced soon enough for me--sad to think that he is standing in the shoes of a man with class to spare--Carson.

If you don't want the whole world to hear about and make fun of you getting busted over and over again for drunk driving and taking drugs...don't do it? Neither the paparazzi nor Rob Schneider poured alcohol down her throat, shoved coke up her nose, and gave her the keys to an SUV. She brought it all upon herself. If you want the paparazzi there when you go out to eat or go shopping, guess what? They're going to show up when you act like a spoiled, conceited idiot with no regard for anyone's safety. She deserves whatever she gets. Maybe she needs to be embarassed and ashamed for once.

Leno and Schneider are both painfully unfunny, but I take this skit as something akin to Saturday Night Live. Lindsay is in the news and they are just parodying it (to use the word loosely). I often feel bad for girls like Lindsay and Britney, but then I remember that they get paid millions of dollars for easy work and they can leave Los Angeles any time they want, a la Julia Roberts. If the cameras and the attention were to go away tomorrow, these girls wouldn't have anything to live for.

Lindsay Lohan is in big trouble and it's disappointing and sad that she doesn't seem to be able to get out of it. Still, I wish she'd take her recovery a little more seriously instead of continue to party around town and flaunt her alcohol bracelet for all to see.

She needs to go away (completely away) for a while and get herself back together. Drew Barrymore was EXTREMELY talented and messed up when she was young, but she went away for a bit and managed to get herself back together, and maybe Lohan could take some pointers.

As for Schneider and Ferguson, I'm not so much offended by them making fun of Lohan. She has advantages and resources that thousands of other addicts don't and she's squandered them over and over again. What offends me is that they're material is idiotic and not funny.

Rob Schneider is a a**hole and I wish he'd go away. The guy has never been funny and never will be. That joke about the ten cameras adding ten pounds each was old when Friends used it about 14 years ago. So am I offended by this bit? Yeah, because it's a cheap shot at a young woman who's dying in front of us, but also because it's executed with the grace of an elephant taking a dump in my front yard. I truly hope that Lilo gets the help she so desperately needs. I've seen a lot of people I've been close to struggle with substance abuse, and it's horrible. I wish Lilo a lot of luck. She's going to have to hit bottom before she finally starts to pull herself up, and I hope it happens soon.

It's very difficult to muster up too much sympathy for a silly little movie star who basically has the world "by the tail" and chooses to mess up her life anyway.

noodles Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 09:08 PM EST

Oh, yes, Barbara Walters, the great humanitarian! I suspect Walters' "sympathy" for Lohan is more due to her angling to nab a Lindsay interview than anything else. Remember how Walters was coming to the defense of Paris Hilton a few months ago, before the interview finally wound up going to Larry King? Walters is a phony and only trying to suck up to the Lohans to get an exclusive interview.

Sorry no sympathy from me. There are pletnty of stars who are famous and keep themselves out of the Tabs, but not Linsday. She courts the press where ever she goes, knowing full well they are going to be there and want her picture. If she didn't want it she would do these things in the first place. She's a fame whore, which is what Walters doesn't get. She's as much addictied to the press as she is to her booze and drugs. None of her movies are hits lately so she has to keep herself in the spotlight, she thinks.

No I hope she goes to jail for a couple of years, no fame, no money. Then maybe she will appreciate her privacy more.

This girl needs to find herself some Kabbalah, pronto.

Stephen Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 08:54 PM EST

And as fo Leno, he should take some lessons from Craig Ferguson.

Stephen Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 08:52 PM EST

I hate how these celebs blame the media and being in the spotlight. A lot of them are in the limelight, and are just fine. (Anne Hathaway any day). Did you hear Lohan's defense that she was just holding the coke for a friend? That is every addict's excuse.

abp Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 08:11 PM EST

You're right on target, Simon. I am glad that you ran this blog post. I saw the clip earlier today and thought it in extremely poor taste. It seems clear that Lindsay Lohan has surpassed putting her career in danger and is now putting her life in danger, and it really is no laughing matter. Rob Schneider's "gag" was way out of line, and disrespectful to boot...

Ed Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 07:58 PM EST

I loved LaLohan up until this point. What ever she does from now on, I won't be follwing her career. She's just out of control. And if you're in the public eye and you do this kind of stuff, no that you're going to get ripped by the media. Jodie Foster keeps her private life private, without getting involved in the tabs - Lindsey, take note.
