What's on your Must List?

Jun 25, 2007, 08:28 PM | by Dawnie Walton

Categories: Must List

Julia_l Fans of Entertainment Weekly should be pretty familiar with the Must List — that pretty page in the magazine that kicks off the reviews section, a compilation of ten things the editors are in love with that particular week. Most recently, we've given kudos to everything from the Police reunion tour to Reunited: The Real World Las Vegas to the animated kiddie flick Surf's Up.

Well, now the editors want to shake things up a bit — we want know what you're digging. Starting with the next issue, each Must List will include a pick from a reader — that's right, you! So let's get it going: What current movie, CD, DVD, or book is your addiction this week, and why? What about awesome singles and music videos? Performances from the summer blockbusters? Guilty pleasures?

I'll start: For the first time ever, I'm tuning in to Fox's Hell's Kitchen. Yes, it's entertaining to watch Gordon Ramsay berate all the contestants — I gasped last week when he smashed an undercooked egg into an underling's chest — but I'm also enjoying it because it's fun to root for Julia (pictured), the Waffle House short-order cook who gets zero respect from her snobby competitors but is hanging in there with the best of them.

Your turn. (And please remember, keep your pick current — don't just say Lost, since it's on hiatus for summer...)

Nikki C Sat, Oct 20, 2007 at 09:57 PM EST

PRETTY LITTLE MISTAKES! it's the first choose-your-own adventure book for adults. Totally addicting. You re-read the book 150+ times, and each time it has a different ending!

LB Thu, Jul 12, 2007 at 04:12 PM EST

Hands down, the new single by Finger Eleven, "Paralyzer"! I strongly suggest a listen.

desi bell Thu, Jul 12, 2007 at 04:04 PM EST

"Traveler." Engaging action TV show that fills the gap created by the end of all the other "serial" TV shows for the regular TV season. If you like "Prison Break" you'll be into this one.

Unfortunately it may be difficult to figure out what's happening if you haven't been watching so far this summer.

LeAnn Rimes: "Nothin' Better To Do" song and video. And I'm not a country fan! This song rocks!

robert Mon, Jul 2, 2007 at 12:41 PM EST

Paul Carpenter, Illusionist, at The Box in NYC. Paul is one of the best performers I've seen in a long while. His girlfriend litterally rips his heart out onstage. It's HOT! I just heard he's performing at Virgin Mega in Times Square, nyc, for the release of the last Harry Potter book on July 20th at 11PM. Love him!!! Check out his site...www.mentallyhyp.com

S.O. Wed, Jun 27, 2007 at 11:05 PM EST

My guilty pleasure this summer? Smallville. I can't get enough of Tom Welling and Allison Mack, those two play off each other amazingly. Allison Mack fits the Lois Lane type to a tee.

CiCi Wed, Jun 27, 2007 at 09:13 PM EST

I LOVE Ghost Hunters! YES! I'd haunt Tango any day!

JJ Wed, Jun 27, 2007 at 09:12 PM EST

Ghost Hunters on SciFi Channel. I want to become a member of TAPS!

Kevin Wed, Jun 27, 2007 at 09:21 AM EST

Pandora.com - AWESOME!
Harry Potter
Little People, Big World.
The Beckhams!

kats Wed, Jun 27, 2007 at 08:31 AM EST

Sarah~ Princess Bride is awesome. Very funny, I think you'll like it. It's also infinitely quotable which is always fun. If you get a chance to check it out, let me know what you think.

JJ Wed, Jun 27, 2007 at 07:39 AM EST

The Tudors (please, Showtime, hurry up and make more!!)
Dirty Jobs
Deadliest Catch
Dog the Bounty Hunter (free Dog from the Mexican police!)
Creature Comforts
Pirates of the Caribbean movie & sountrack

Erin Wed, Jun 27, 2007 at 06:02 AM EST

JOEL MCHALE ON THE SOUP
I cannot believe I left that off my list! (I was sleepy)

I look forward to Friday nights and all of the snarkiness from McHale and The Soup crew.
I Agree!!! PLEASE do a feature article in EW on Joel and the show!!

Chris Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:28 PM EST

My ‘Must’ for this week:

Gwen Stefani’s “4 In The Morning”
The perfect anti-summer song: retro, classy, cool, and catchy enough to get Rihanna’s “Umbrella” out of my head.

Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:29 PM EST

Chocolate-dipped Altoids

J. Free Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:26 PM EST

The impending Harry Potter onslaught in July. Is there anything better than investing your excitement and anticipation into both a movie and book, and knowing that your expectations will be lived up to? Bring it!

Mark Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:25 PM EST

The Glorious Unseen on myspace.
The 4400
Pudding Pops
Bela Fleck and Chick Corea's The Enchantment
Criterion DVDs (Third Man, Double Life of Veronique, La Jetee/Sans Soleil)

Sarah Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 08:45 PM EST

Princess Bride: a movie I have not yet seen. I know, it's a total crime! It's on my to-do list, I swear! And, as you've said, since we have so much in common, I will make it a priority!

Aletta Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 08:36 PM EST

My Must single #1 is "She loves Everybody" by Chester French, get it whilst it's hot, if you love Electro.

My Must single #2 is "Burn Koko" by the Subliminal Girls, a great bit of indie pop imploring the youth of London to destroy the oh so trendy club Koko. It's infectious.

My Must book is "This Book will save your life", sounds like self help but it's not, it's just about a guy breaking the hermetic seal on his life and finding something wonderful.

kats Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 08:30 PM EST

Sarah~ I don't own it yet, but I do know the scene. We saw the extended versions of all of them on satellite. Too funny. I still cannot believe how much we have in common! As they say in "Princess Bride" (another favorite) "Inconceivable!"

Sarah Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 07:52 PM EST

Kats: you HAVE to see the extended version of The Two Towers. There's a scene at the Helm's Deep battle that goes like this:
LEGOLAS: (stroking his bow) Final count.....42.
GIMLI: Forty-two? That's not bad for a pointy-eared Elvish princeling. I myself am sitting pretty on 43.
Legolas swiftly draws an arrow and shoots it between Gimli's legs at the Uruk-hai he is sitting on
LEGOLAS: (smirks) Forty-three.
GIMLI: He was already dead.
LEGOLAS: He was twitching.
GIMLI: He was twitching......because he's got my axe (he grabs his axe which is embedded in the Uruks head and moves it so that the dead Uruk moves too) embedded in his nervous system!
Classic!

Boots Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 07:52 PM EST

Alan Rickman!

Katie Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 07:36 PM EST

Spring Awakening. Its combination of 19th century dialogue and 21st century music is perfect. Not to mention the cast, including John Gallagher Jr. and Jonathan Groff, are incredible in their respective roles.

Elizabeth Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 06:46 PM EST

http://jezebel.com/ A great website that speaks to women's issues in pop culture, politics etc. in a funny hip way without the condescension of some women's magazines or websites

LauHa Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 06:44 PM EST

"Skins"--The British teen drama is addictive and Nicholas Hoult's performance manages to totally corrupt anything sappy he put on screen in "About a Boy". I hope to never meet teens like them, but when they're on screen I can't look away!

kats Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 06:35 PM EST

Sarah ~ That scene in ROTK is awesome. I love the relationship between Legolas and Gimli. One of my favorite parts of the movie. Especially where they're comparing their kill counts and Gimli tells Legolas that the elephant only counts as one. I have not seen the Tudors. We don't have Showtime. Maybe I can check it out on dvd. Our music and movie taste combo must be at least a little rare I would think!

fredric Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 05:29 PM EST

Oh yes. Man vs. Wild. That's another one definitely worth a look, too!

don Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 05:23 PM EST

My summer must haves, in no particular order:

Tiffany, Just Me...great new cd, totally blows away any mall girl persona

Transformers

Michael Tolliver Lives

My Life on the D-List

Slezak's Stalker Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 05:16 PM EST

As a fan of Food Network, it's got to be "The Next Food Network Star." Fires, catfights, gay men (and straight men) crying... it can also make you feel like your one omelette away from being a chef yourself. Must see during summer re-runs.

Joseph Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 04:42 PM EST

Big Spender on A&E. First off, host Larry Winget is the coolest man on TV: those boots, those cowboy shirts, the silver jewelry and the big earrings. What other millionaire dresses like this? Then, the way he bullies these people into changing their bad financial habits is a hoot. Favorite Larry-ism: "It's your own damn fault." I love the woman who drove a BMW and her take-home pay was under $500 a month. I don't know if I'm learning any lessons, but I'm having a great time watching this show.

Caitlin V. Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 04:37 PM EST

Anything and everything Kathy Griffin. Whenever I'm flipping channels and see her lovely botoxed face on my tiny tiny television- it's a guaranteed stop. Her D-List status allows her to go out with Nick Carter one day, and do shows in Michigan the next- and no one comes to Michigan. I've lived in Michigan for 12 years so when I say "no one comes to Michigan," I mean no one comes to Michigan. Her specials are hilarious and her show gives us little people a true insight into Hollywood. She has also introduced words like "gay onion" into regular usage- at least for me.

MJ Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 04:02 PM EST

A must pick for the summer is hellogoodbye's CD "Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!"

Sarah Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:52 PM EST

OMG, KATS! You love Orlando and LOTR as well?!?! We really WERE separated at birth! You MUST OWN all three extended version LOTR DVDs. Love the Legolas drinking w/Gimli scene in ROTK. It's one of my faves. I'm also addicted to The Tudors on Showtime. Have you seen it?

Eric Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:49 PM EST

How about a book? "The Pesthouse" by Jim Crace. I just finished it and it's beautiful.

A Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:47 PM EST

Joslyn: Creature Comforts is also on BBC America. And it's the British version (obviously!) so it's even funnier! YO, CBS! BRING BACK CREATURE COMFORTS!!!

Joslyn Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:44 PM EST

Well, Creature Comforts absolutely would have been at the top of my Must List, except that CBS canceled it. Boo, CBS!!
So that leaves SYTYCD, Cash Cab, the White Stripes' Icky Thump and Teenagers, by My Chemical Romance. I just saw the video this morning and I can't say I was a fan before, but that is one heck of a catchy song.
Oh, and getting VERY excited for Grease to open on Broadway (Aug 24th) and for my chance to see Max Crumm live!!

berf Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:43 PM EST

lol, I was going to saw LOST until I saw the bottom.

Ellipsian Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:31 PM EST

**Big Movie: "Transformers" - If this movie holds onto half the excitement and kick-assery of its rock-'em-sock-'em, block-rockin' trailers, we'll officially have on our hands the best movie adaptation from my 80's-based childhood.
**Li'l Movie (and Soundtrack): "Once" - Li'l only in its scope and initial theatrical release, this passionate and beautiful flick may find you realizing through the middle of the first song that a tear has slid sneakily down your cheek. And just wait 'til you find out later what she said on the cliff.
**Album: Rhianna, "Good Girl Gone Bad" - Bely the backlash: just because everyone's saying it over and over again doesn't make it wrong--welcome to the (deserved) soundtrack of your summer.
**TV: "So You Think You Can Dance" - So you think your show's title can get away with not ending with a question mark? With the best, most entertaining and talented top twenty ever, methinks it can.

JK Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:22 PM EST

I'd have The Click Five's new album "Modern Minds And Pastimes" on my Must List. It's a catchy blend of pop and rock music that should be the next big thing!

Anjeliki Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:10 PM EST

I almost forgot: www.ostateballaz.com - you can enjoy both songs.

Anjeliki Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:09 PM EST

Gotta put in my plug for O State Ballaz and Still Ball'n, two rap songs written and performed by a group that includes Mitch Canham, the catcher for the Oregon State Beavers baseball team which just won its second consecutive national championship. O State Ballaz was written in 2006, during the season, and predicted the championship win. Still Ball'n was written during the season that just ended, and again predicts the College World Series win.

Definitely on my must-list for this week - good music, timely, and the online consensus seems to be that Mitch Canham is hot, so it's a trifecta!

Alan (Canada) Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:07 PM EST

I'll give you my guilty pleasure in the summer--Canadian Idol. The contestants aren't as polished as their neighbours to the south, and some of them are downright embarrassing to watch on stage, but there's certainly a lot of quirk to go around.

Carrie Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:05 PM EST

Music: *Mika- Life in Cartoon Motion. I caught his concert in Atlanta last weekend and his CD has been a fixture on my i-pod

*Lily Allen- Alright, Still

Movies: Knocked Up

Rebekah Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 03:03 PM EST

1. Top Chef-Best reality show competition by far.
2. My Life on the D-List- Hilarious and touching(Kathy's Father's death)
3. Season 5 of Scrubs on DVD-More hilarious the second time around

Emilee Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:47 PM EST

Forgot to list "Expedition Everest" at Disneyworld. Nothing more entertaining than a giant Yeti.

Vivi Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:46 PM EST

Shia LaBeouf. Shia LaBeouf. Shia LaBeouf. I am so geeked about his success. He so deserves it.

Nicole R. Steeves Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:45 PM EST

Reruns of Ghost Whisperer and Bones, The Fug Girls, Signing Time!

Chloe fan Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:38 PM EST

Must List:

ANNE BOLEYN - This woman is scorching hot lately. 1) Ugly Betty wears her signature necklace. 2) "The Other Boleyn Girl" was loved by both my book club and my bunco group. We can't stop talking about her this summer. 3)Natalie Portman. Eric Bana. Scarlett Johansen. Can't wait for the movie. 4) The Tudors. I've only seen the first 2 episodes, but it looked great as well. It's definitely Anne's summer. She's everywhere.

Other musts:
A Thousand Splendid Suns
My Life on the D-list
Big Love
Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's - this is a beautiful song.
Catching up with Classics on newly released DVDs
Waitress with Keri Russell

Emilee Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:37 PM EST

The Heinrich Maneuver single by Interpol

Icky thump album from The White Stripes

Creature Comforts on CBS

kathryn Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:32 PM EST

don't know how "new" it is, but i have been obsessed with www.jezebel.com all summer. and i have to agree with all the love for joel mchale. watching "the soup" on friday makes working through the summer tolerable.

poochie Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:32 PM EST

1. Big Love
2. Kyle XY
3. 4400
4. Real Estate Pros/TLC
5. Age of Love

kats Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:21 PM EST

Okay, now I really have to go see At World's End. I'm already hooked on the first two and I've adored Orlando Bloom since he was an elf!

mbr Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:20 PM EST

I have to agree with a couple of other people's choices:

Version by Mark Ronson is so awesome!! "Stop Me", "The Only One I
Know", and "God Put A Smile On Your Face" are in constant rotation on the Ipod. I got it on import and it was worth every penny.

Joel McHale on "The Soup" is most hilarious. I think he's better than Best Week Ever.

Catherine Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:19 PM EST

The suprise of Orlando Bloom's hotness at the end of the movie!!! I'm still think about it!!
and of course SYTYCD!!!

Erin Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:17 PM EST

On my must list right now is "So You Think You Can Dance". It has energy and is fun to watch. I was a little hesitant to watch it at first, but after one episode I was hooked! I can't get enough of it!

kats Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:07 PM EST

Sarah ~ You're a LOTR fan too?!? We own all three movies but only "The Return of the King" in extended version. Need to get the others too. On boring weekends we have marathons with the kids - who actually are probably way too young to watch... I agree about New Line and Peter Jackson. No one else should be allowed to make that movie!

BijouxIce Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:02 PM EST

My current must list includes two books I was eagerly awaiting. The first is "The Harlequin" by Laurell K. Hamilton, 15th in the Anita Blake series and well worth the wait, it was her best in ages and fans of the series will be happy to see the return of Anita's friend Edward. The second book is "Kushiel's Justice" by Jacqueline Carey, 5th in her Kushiel's Legacy series. This volume really shows Imriel coming into manhood and also has payoffs that some other series *cough*Sword-of-Truth*cough* continue to deny faithful readers.

Sarah Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:01 PM EST

kats, that is way too cool! Good idea to re-read the Harry books to prepare for the release of the new one. I'll cry when I finish it. I didn't take it well when I finished the Lord of the Rings books either. BTW, where's The Hobbit movie??? Somebody please tell New Line to just pay Peter Jackson what they owe him so he can get back to work on Middle-earth!

pamela Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 02:00 PM EST

There's only 4 things occupying my boring summer at work and just as boring TV nights at home:
SYTYCD
Icky Thump video
Plain White T's-Hey There Deliliah
And Rehab by Amy Winehouse

kats Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:49 PM EST

Sarah~ OMG! Too much in common! Yes, HUGE Harry Potter fan. Actually am re-reading "The Half-Blood Prince" right now. I read through it so fast the first time I'm certain I missed things. And, I think I've got the R.A.B. mystery figured out. Can't wait for the new movie and book! In homage to our taste in music, we must be like "Twin Sons (or daughters or siblings) From Different Mothers"!

A.M. Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:41 PM EST

Definitely looking forward to Live Free or Die Hard - the only Summer movie I'm interested in. There's nothing worth watching on TV these days. While I wait for the next season of the Office, I have discovered, on DVD, Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared, which are both pretty good. For books, looking forward to the new Harry Potter but you really have to check out The Unexpected and Fictional Career Change of Jim Kearns by David Munroe. It's funny, original and written by an unknown writer who isn't slogging the same old stuff. You can read the first chapter at davidmunroe.com.

Craig Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:25 PM EST

The phrase says it all ....

Yippee ki-yahhh mother(it gets bleeped again)!!!!!!

Can't wait to see John McClain in Die Hard 4.

Lisa Dowell Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:25 PM EST

Keri Russell in The Waitress. I loved her in "Felicity" but it's in this film that she's proven her acting range and comedic charm in this delectable comedy.

c.e. Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:24 PM EST

I don't know why they released "La Vie In Rose" in the summer when it's star Marion Cotillard might be this year's Helen Mirren. But the story of Edith Piaf, while not perfect shows a woman who gave her all, did it her her way, died too young of excess and still showed every celebraty who died after her that they had nothing to complain about.

Meegan Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:23 PM EST

I know I'm not the only one out there watching CHARM SCHOOL! Mo'nique and those "slutacious" girls are my big summer must!

NineDaves Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:21 PM EST

I'll add some more support to the SYTYCD train. I'll also throw my support toward Rosie.com. Those video blogs are the best reality show ever. Well, next to my other summer must: Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List. Smart, sarcastic, and honest, Kathy is a riot to watch. The last episode (when her father died) was one of the most emotional episodes of TV I've seen in a while.

george Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:08 PM EST

Dog the Bounty Hunter? Anyone?

Cherie Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:03 PM EST

Creature Comforts on BBC America and CBS. We need more talking claymation animals in the world! And I agree with A about Orlando Bloom in Pirates 3. I'd live at my friendly neighborhood multiplex if I could!

Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:02 PM EST

Thanks for mentioning the Cold War Kids on today's Music photo slideshow. I saw them at the KCRW's Evening Becomes Eclectic, and they were electrifying & jarringly talented!

A Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:01 PM EST

Orlando Bloom in Pirates: At World's End. Especially at the end when he's on the Flying Dutchman. The man is perfection!

mags Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:58 PM EST

Doctor Who, Season Three; the season is almost over in England, but it's starting here next Friday on the SciFi channel--not just for longtime fans of the classic show. David Tennant and Freema Agyeman are not only gorgeous but smart, witty, and very likable.

Ally Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:56 PM EST

I'm throwing my vote in for Mike Rowe too. He's too cool and always makes me laugh (I'd like to sit down for a beer with him sometime!). I love DIRTY JOBS and DEADLIEST CATCH.

Phil Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:55 PM EST

I know I mentioned DJ Mark Ronson's new cd "Version" last night, but to the few folks that have sung the praises of Chrisette Michele's just released, "I Am", the iTunes version has bonus LIVE tracks of "Good Girl", "If I Have My Way" & "Golden". Also on iTunes, fans of Chrisette should check out Emily King's "Walk In My Shoes". Its an incredible song that I just happened to purchase after listening to the 30 second sample & now I wanna tell the world about this great talent!

That's Entertainment Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:52 PM EST

Thank you Jack White, for making driving with the windows down fun again with the release of Icky Thump. Thank you Mike Rowe, for so consistently delivering wisecracks on Dirty Jobs. And thank you Capcom, for delivering one of the most finely crafted video games ever (Resident Evil 4) to the Wii during the gaming "off-season."

tex mex Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:48 PM EST

I have to throw in my vote for So You Think You Can Dance too. There are more goosebump-inducing moments in a single episode than in the entire last season of American Idol. Now, if we could just get the contestants to stop mugging for the cameras while their phone numbers are being rattled off...

Sarah Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:46 PM EST

kats, it's me! You love Harry too? I swear, we must have been separated at birth!

Joe C Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:45 PM EST

I should add that I am enjoying the White Stripes 'Icky Thump.' This band really does remind me of Led Zep. Rock on, Jack White!

Melissa Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:45 PM EST

This is the time of year when USA really comes through for TV viewers with "The Dead Zone" and the upcoming new seasons of "Monk" and the hilarious, charming "Psych." My favorite right now is "The 4400," a thought-provoking show that continues to weave a distinct world full of interesting characters who I look forward to spending an hour with each Sunday.

Jill Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:45 PM EST

The Closer, The Starter Wife, and anything on 'Mystery' on PBS.

Sweet Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:37 PM EST

I am soo excited about the new season of Degrassi: The Next Generation,
It's always Sunny in Philadelphia,
Gwen Stefani's Sweet Escape is perfect summer driving music, and of course Harry Potter movie and book.

Emily Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:33 PM EST

*The Dresden Dolls are one of the most inventive bands around these days.
*Spring Awakening. Rocks. Enough said.

AG Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:20 PM EST

I am truly, truly obsessed with Rob and Big's mini horse... especially the fact that they call it "mini horse!" They are hysterical and pretty much the only entertaining thing on tv this summer, other than SYTYCD.

Lee Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:10 PM EST

The women of "Big Love"--especially Mary Kay Place and Chloe Sevigney.

Hung on "Top Chef." Sure he's a jerk, but boy can he handle a knife!

The crazy director on "Entourage." I love how he's becoming more and more unhinged.

Ralph Finnes as Voldemort in the upcoming "Harry Potter" movie. I'm only seen the previews and already I'm having nightmares!

Samantha Brown on "Passport to Latin America." She's so nice--I want to travel to Santiago, Chile with her and go shopping and sight-seeing. She's so nice and mellow--the perfect buddy for a summer road trip!

RBlues Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:08 PM EST

Elliott Yamin's CD! I love it and my kids love it (that's hard to find these days).

I had to miss his concert here in Denver as my oldest daughter was in (false)labor and it still hurts my tummy when I think about it.

Kevin Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:07 PM EST

That's easy: Nintendo DS. After months of collecting dust once the novelty of Brain Age wore off, the DS is once again a permanent fixture in my hands. In addition to the maddingly addictive "New York Times Crosswords" game, the recent months have also brought about the Guitar Hero-esque "Elite Beat Agents" as well as the old-school PC genius of "Theme Park" and the just released "Sim City" (which, IMHO, is even more fun than the PC version). And, just to make my summer even more un-production, we've got "Brain Age 2" coming our way in August. It's a good thing I can't afford a Wii, otherwise I'd never see the light of day.

Anna Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:56 AM EST

I'm in love with Little People, Big World on Mondays, TLC. Cannot get enough of how real the family is.

kats Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:44 AM EST

Sarah ~ Is that you? In addition to our ecclectic taste in music do we also share Harry Potter?!?

fredric Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:37 AM EST

Mandy Moore's new CD, "Wild Hope": Of course, the album is quite a feat itself, but she's also a must because she seems to be the only starlet under the age of 25 who hasn't flashed her private parts to the paparazzi.

Also: Kyle XY, which is the first piece of entertainment to effectively balance sci-fi, romance, humor, and mystery since Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze made pottery.

Andy Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:35 AM EST

-"Tell Me Where it Hurts" new GARBAGE song and video for greatest hits album has a retro Charlie's Angels vibe.

-"You Are the One" by the Shiny Toy Guns who also but on an amazing live show

Janice Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:31 AM EST

Right on, Rinna! Meyers is too cool in The Tudors. "I'M THE KIND OF ENGLAND!!!"

Rinna Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:29 AM EST

Jonathan Rhys Meyers in The Tudors. He's magnificent!

Darrell Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:29 AM EST

No brainer, SYTYCD! Watching this show makes you want to get up and dance! Favorite couples so far: Danny and Anya, Kameron and Lacey, and Pasha and Jessi! As Mary Murphy (the Bobblehead, as my friend calls her), would say, "WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH-WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Janice Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:28 AM EST

Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. The man is a genius. I'd drink rum on a deserted island with him anytime!

Ryan Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:27 AM EST

Rescue Me season 3 on DVD.

The return of Psych and My Boys--hurray for cable television. And, of course, the two words that send shivers up my spine and a desire to be McLovin: Super Bad.

Nathan Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:23 AM EST

FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS!!!

Heather Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:17 AM EST

"So You Think You Can Dance" is the best thing about summer. Amazing performances, great host, crazy (yet credible!)judge Mary Murphy, and of course the ridiculously talented and hardworking dancers! What more can you ask for in a TV show?

Also, i've recently gotten into Supernatural Season One on DVD, but I don't think that counts as recent!

Sandy Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:16 AM EST

I LOVE:
The Tudors
Pirates of the Caribbean (why is the rum gone???)
Harry Potter
and I would love The Hobbit if New Line would end their stupid feud with Peter Jackson and film it already!

Andrew Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:15 AM EST

-John Krasinski & Mandy Moore
-The Soup
-Rescue Me
-The Bourne Ultimatum
-the nearly absolute glut of anything good to watch on TV during the summer
-Harry Potter
-Using Netflix to catch up on the movies you haven't seen yet
-Black Sheep
-The White Stripes' "Icky Thump"

mjryan Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:14 AM EST

Turner Classic Movies - during the summer, and during non-sweeps months when new programing is scarce and what there is is generally a rather poor quality, I spend my TV, and Tivo, time watching the classics. With monthly features such as Star of the Month, Funday Night at the Movies, The Essentials, Silent Sunday Nights and TCM Underground along with special features such as Celluloid Skyline, Gay Images in Film, the recent Brando documentary and the upcoming special on Steven Spielberg, there really is something for every taste. I haven't even mentioned the two biggest pluses of this channel - no commercials and host Robert Osborne. I can always find quality viewing on TCM no matter the day. An absolute must.

Cyril Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:14 AM EST

Mandy Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:11 AM EST

Yes! Mike Rowe on Dirty Jobs! I second that emotion. Speaking of, I also love Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. I'm a Cartoon Network junkie!

Angey Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:10 AM EST

CROSS CANADIAN RAGWEED. How about giving some attention to the "progressive country" music scene?

Andrew Magness Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:10 AM EST

Here is my Must List
1)Sicko- I saw the new Mr. Moore movie and it is his best work because the problem is hitting everyone. (Don't ask how I saw it early)
2)Big Love- so happy the best American Family is back
3)Beastie Boys-The Mix Up It is great to see them jamming again
4)Flight of the Conchords- Been with them for years and I am happy HBO embraces their craziness
5)Countdown with Keith Olbermann- best political commentator on TV
6)Rob and Big's new Mini Horse- that thing is crazy looking
7)Hells Kitchen- Gordon Ramsey inspires me to yell and poor Aaron gets fired by phone.
8)Best Week Ever- good times everyweek
9)Bruce Willis- after a couple boring movies Bruce is funny again as he promotes Die Hard 4.78
10)Arrested Development Reruns- everyweek this show should be on the must list because it is still that good of a show

Hoo Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:05 AM EST

2.Big Brother (summer's guilty pleasure w/the ChenBot)

5. HBO (Big Love, Entourage etc)

Jennifer S Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 11:00 AM EST

So You Think You Can Dance...dance...dance is on my Must List every week. I like the show so much because the dancers are real professionals at what they do. Everyone is a Melinda Doolittle.

Harry Potter
Flight of the Conchords
John From Cinncinati
Hell's Kitchen
America's Got Talent

Jordan, Jesse Go!-podcast
Patton Oswalt doing anything
Flight of the Conchords
The new Third Man on DVD

Heather Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:43 AM EST

Ditto on "Hell's Kitchen." Plus, you can turn it into a drinking game pretty easily. For example, take a shot every time Gordon swears...take a drink if you hear the phrase "Shut it all down!"...

Danny Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:38 AM EST

On my must list is Kathy Griffin's "My life on the D List." Anyone that can go from somber (her father's death) to Lindsay Lohan's crotch shots in one act is most deserving of an EMMY! Forget Home Makeover...Kathy is emmy worthy!

Aimee J Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:35 AM EST

LILY ALLEN!!! I can not stop listening to her album.
Mike Rowe on Dirty Jobs is hilarious and bring on the Harry Potter . . . .

Marisa Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:31 AM EST

The Soundtrack to the movie Once is on my Must List. I keep listening to the last five tracks on repeat. There's something about Glen Hansard's passionate guitar playing and the mildly depressing lyrics that keep me listening to it on repeat on my ipod.

Ryan Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:24 AM EST

BBC America's Hex is the best thing going this summer. Funny, scary, sexy; everything Charmed wasn't, but with a lesbian ghost named Thelma for good measure!

Ryan Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:23 AM EST

BBC America's Hex is the best thing going this summer. Funny, scary, sexy; everything Charmed wasn't, but with a lesbian ghost named Thelma for good measure!

Daniel Fidler Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:22 AM EST

-- Joel McHale on The Soup (Why doesn't EW ever do a story on this great show?!)

-- Ratatouille The Soundtrack by Michael Giacchino (he does the music to LOST) It just came out today, and the music is great!

Lizdur Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:15 AM EST

So You Think You Can Dance is the most entertaining show on television this summer. Plus: it has nothing to do with pirates or Paris Hilton.

Stephen Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:13 AM EST

I second "Talk Soup!" Compare it to three years ago when it was the "What the?" awards and it's sooo much funnier now. Along those lines is the superior "Best Week Ever." VH1 is the king on pop-culture commentary

Ben Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:10 AM EST

#1 Must for this summer: Kelly Clarkson's "My December." The album is great, check out EW's review.
Also loving "Knocked Up" and Kathy Griffin's "My Life On the D-List" and always gotta check out Big Brother every summer!

Ahleese Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:08 AM EST

I have to second TALK SOUP!!! Joel McHale is hilarious and no one is safe from his sarcastic commentary!

justjudith Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:03 AM EST

i'm obsessed with my blog, undercover black man's blog, top chef, hell's kitchen and up until saturday's finale -- the ultimate fighter 5. i'm still watching entourage but it's not a must...

Mel Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 10:02 AM EST

Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton. It's a choose-your-own adventure novel for women that I've read 10 times in the last 2 days. So far in my stories I've been murdered, married to another woman, making art in Italy, obese in a trailer park and retired in Alaska. Unpredictable and fun.

danny W Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:59 AM EST

Jeanne Tripplehorn on Big Love! Her performance as Barb is soft, strong, sexy and compassionate.

TSD Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:54 AM EST

My must list for the summer include:
So You Think You Can Dance?
Top Chef
Hell's Kitchen
Big Brother
T.I. vs. TIP
Kelly Rowland's new cd
Anything Harry Potter

Valerie Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:51 AM EST

Chaddogg Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:46 AM EST

My Must List? "The 4400" and "Flight of the Conchords" - two of the only reasons to watch television this summer.

JL Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:46 AM EST

Joel McHale on The SOUP.

Kat DeLuna - WHINE UP

Gorgoth Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:36 AM EST

Pirates of the Caribbean: all three movies, soundtracks, books, web sites, the ride at Disney. I think they did an amazing job with the films, and of course Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, and Orlando Bloom are all wonderful in the movies. I hope they make another one soon!

Craig Larson Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:35 AM EST

Big Love and John From Cincinnatti on HBO. Not too sure about those Conchords just yet... Also, I just got my hands on the new Wilco CD, Sky Blue Sky, and it is truly excellent.

Matty A Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:31 AM EST

I second the SPRING AWAKENING CD, and add to that FOB's video for "Thks Fr Th Mmrs" -- monkeys make everything better!

djcct2 Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:29 AM EST

I cannot live without the following:

Top Chef

F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Beautiful and the Damned" which I know isn't current but I have currently revisited it.

Bon Jovi's "Crossroads" because it is the ultimate summer album.

Games at Yankee stadium

The Next Food Network Star

The O'Reily Factor

Dahlia Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:26 AM EST

After seeing the cast of Spring Awakening perform at the Tonys I rushed out and bought the cast recording and have been listening to it non-stop ever since. Let's see some theater love on the Must List!

Galadriel Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:17 AM EST

I'm addicted to Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch. Kudos to EW for finally giving this fantastic show some love by putting it on their Must List. Also, kudos for putting Gerard Butler on the list. I've been in love with him since Phantom of the Opera. Can't wait to see more of him in the future.

denny Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:15 AM EST

Must Watch TV: Cat Deeley, host of So You Think You Can Dance. There isn't a more breezily entertaining show on television, and the gorgeous Brit is a big part of the reason why. She's the most honest host on television, with real compassion for the dancers and (mostly) real respect for the judges. Or, in her accent, "jidges".

Must Listen Music: Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat". Yes, it's only been released in the UK, but thanks to the glory of YouTube, you can watch the music video any time you want. It's an absolutely beautiful, heartbreaking song, and the video provides a great visual version of the song's soundscape. Watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t36QV_fM7oE

Cheryl Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:14 AM EST

I LOVE The Tudors on Showtime! Emmys all around to Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Sam Neill, Maria Doyle Kennedy. Can't wait for season 2 next year!

JK Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:14 AM EST

I am currently obsessed with LOVE (the show and the soundtrack)--the Cirque Du Soleil Show featuring the great remixes of classic Beatles songs. Being a child of the 80's, I now have a newfound appreciation for The Beatles. Their music is truly timeless and still relevant today.

Vicky Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 09:11 AM EST

So You Think You Can Dance

Cay Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 08:10 AM EST

I am currently in love with Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah". I have no idea how this little gem slipped through the cracks the first time out.

Isty Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 08:09 AM EST

Steve Carell. Check http://www.dotcomedy.com/steve/

Seriously you'll see what a genius this man is. Especially the ones with Conan - priceless. No wonder everybody wants to work with him.

And also, JUDD APATOW. Another genius.

Joe C Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 08:04 AM EST

BBC America. Shows like 'Murphy's Law' 'MI5', 'Gil Mayo Mysteries' and 'Hex' are as good as anything on American televison, better than most.
As for music, I'm loving Led Zep's Boxed set(again!) though of course I am really pumped about the fall when THE BEST SINGER IN THE WORLD Mariah Carey puts out the follow up to Mimi and shows everyone from Beyonce to Christina how it's done.

Tess Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 07:58 AM EST

"Foundation" by British singer Kate Nash - just a cute summer jam I can't stop listening to!

GingerCat Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 07:54 AM EST

My music must is Mandy Moore's new CD, "Wild Hope." It's got a sort of Joni Mitchell/Fleetwood Mac vibe that makes it perfect for summer.
My book must is Armistead Maupin's "Michael Tolliver Lives." Who can resist a new "Tales of the City" book after all this time?

step Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 07:53 AM EST

Currently it's Flight of the Conchords. It's too amazing for words.

Bill Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 07:47 AM EST

Since the movie season has been lackluster, I've been catching up on Big Love, Top Chef, Hell's Kitchen, and Entourage.

Michelle Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 07:20 AM EST

Paul Potts, the average-joe opera singer who won Britain's Got Talent contest. His audition (all over YouTube) will give you chills. What a voice! Can't wait for the album to come out (supposedly later this year). Until then I listen to his "Nessun Dorma" at least once a day, when I need something to make me smile.

Aleks Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 07:17 AM EST

Jennifer Esposito on Rescue Me: I've fallen for the only woman who can rattle the unshakable Dennis Leary. Making him feel girly is nice too.

Snarf Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 06:32 AM EST

Hidden Palms (yes I know no one is more suprised than me) it's a trainwreck, but a gloriously fun one.

David Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 06:17 AM EST

Dear Dawnie Walton and all you EW biyotches! How come you're not loving Mariah Carey in your EW 100 music artists?!?! Come to think of it, I don't remember you ever having Mariah on the cover even in 2005 when she was THE music news of that year! Shame on you! You put Kanye even if he still has to drop his latest CD later this year just like Mariah. You put Duran Duran even they too are still to drop their album! How about Mariah for her follow up to The Emancipation of Mimi?!?! You just hate Mariah so stop pretending by putting a pathetic list like top ten Mariah songs when in fact she has more fantastic songs than most of the one hit wonders you put in your EW 100 list will ever have! Boo!

FJM Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 06:15 AM EST

Still desperately missing CBS's Rockstar this summer...loud sigh...

kriselda jarnsaxa Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 05:51 AM EST

The new Rush album "Snakes and Arrows" manages to continue Rush's ongoing evolution as a band, while capturing some of the early, raw energy of their 70's albums, creating one of their freshest offerings in years.

All three musicians - Alex Lifeson (guitar), Geddy Lee (bass/vocals) and Neil Peart put their usual virtuoso-level skills on display, and listening to S&A, it becomes apparent that even though Rush is, in many ways, returning to their roots, they've also been influenced by today's newer bands - several of whom have cited Rush as one of *their* prime influences.

S&A has 13 songs, including 3 instrumentals, and lyrically takes a look at religions, spirituality and their influence on current world events. Of course, Peart, the band's lyricist, generally doesn't presume to have the answers - he just offers listeners some food for thought.

There are reasons why Rush fans are known for their fanatical loyalty to the band, and S&A provides many excellent examples.

Enjoy!!

Brandon ~ I just started re-reading The Half-Blood Prince in preparation for the July 21st release date of Deathly Gallows. I'm all about the anticipation although this time around it's rather bittersweet knowing it will be the end and being aware that one or two favorite characters are said to die.

Linda Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 04:52 AM EST

I haven't taken Elliott Yamin's CD out of my player for the past three months. Every song is pleasing and that voice - I could listen to it all day and night. Saw him live in concert twice this spring - once at the Bowery in NYC - and it is an experience not to forget - the energy in the room was amazing.

Of course, McCartney is enjoying the success of his new CD on the Starbucks label, "Memory Half Full," which recently debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart. On Wednesday night, the music world should be buzzing about the "secret" show that McCartney will put on at Amoeba Music on Sunset Blvd. in L.A.
And lest we forget, July 6 will be the 50th anniversary of that fateful day when teenagers McCartney and John Lennon met at the Woolton Garden Fête held at St. Peter's Church in Liverpool. Too bad it's not yet an international holiday!

For me, it's a Fab Four Summer, full of milestones and observances related to the Beatles and their impact on our pop culture. Not bad for a band that broke up 37 years ago!
It all began June 1, which was the 40th anniversary of the release of the groundbreaking LP "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." And it continues tonight (Tuesday, June 26) with a Beatles reunion of sorts on "Larry King Live." Sir Paul McCartney (who celebrated his 65th birthday last week) and Ringo Starr (who turns 67 on July 7) will appear on the CNN interview show along with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison. Also interviewed will be Cirque du Soleil founder and CEO Guy Laliberté, whose show "Love," featuring digitally remixed recordings of the Beatles' music, is celebrating its one-year anniversary at The Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.

MUSIC MUSTS:

Anything by Schuyler Fisk

D.J. Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:24 AM EST

Musts:

TV:

"John From Cincinnati" - Nevermind the fact that three episodes in, nobody knows what the hell they are watching just yet. The characters have a certain depth/quirkiness (Think "Six Feet Under" mixed with "Tiwn Peaks") that warrants sticking around. I've got my eye on you, John.

"Man vs. Wild":

Where else can you see a dude strangle a fish? Brilliant.

Music:

Luke Temple's "Snowbeast":

The Brooklyn-based songwriter didn't need to go any further than his own bedroom for this recording. He's got pipes like Paul Simon and he fingerpicks his an awful lot like him, too. But this is no rehashing. The dude puts a new spin on old ideas, not to mention that he experiments with traditional melody and song structure. No need for hyperbole here. The music does the talking.

sarah Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:17 AM EST

While Dane Cook is off starring in terrible movies, Daniel Tosh has become THE cute stand up comedian. I loved watching his new special ("Completely Serious" on Comedy Central) that I went and bought the cd/dvd combo the next day.

Vee Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 01:12 AM EST

Thanks to some friends, I've discovered the amazing talents (and body ;)) of Bear Grylls from Man vs. Wild on Discovery Channel.

leia Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:53 AM EST

"Rome" on HBO, that is :) Another great series from that network

Lee Cochenour Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:53 AM EST

"Five Skies" by Ron Carlson. A beautifully told story of three damaged men learnito trusst again on a construction project in a remote area of Idaho.

leia Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:52 AM EST

I'm watching "Rome" season 1, on DVD, right now, and it's an absolutely FANTASTIC dramatic series, with Caesar, Mark Antony, Cleopatra, all the major characters. Great plotlines, great writing, great performances (look for Tobias Menzies as Brutus) I really recommend it to all. And Season 2 comes out on August 7 on DVD, I think!

Mozz Mendez Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:38 AM EST

On June 19th, I bought my first C.D. in two years. And that honor went to Chrisette Michele, here's a C.D. you have to own not download. Kick bootay lyrics and amazing vocal interpretations. By far the best album of the summer.

JR Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:32 AM EST

TV:
-Cooking shows: Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen.
-HBO: Flight of the Conchords and John from Cincinnati, two very strange, quirky new shows. John from Cincinnati is definitely a guilty pleasure being that most people hate it, and I too find myself most times wondering why the hell I actually watch and like it.
-Still waiting for my biggest summer guilty pleasure to start--
Big Brother.

Movies: Hope to see Knocked Up and Ratatouille this week.

Music: The Best of 1980/1987 David Bowie, and Singles Going Steady by The Buzzcocks. I know, not at all contemporary.

Cortney O Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:18 AM EST

Age of Love is an addicting and at times horrifing show. But I love the experiment and can't wait until next week. Also, Hell's Kitchen is a must every summer. Truly great mind numbing TV!

1. Angelina Jolie in "A Mighty Heart." She reminds her harshest skeptics she is a phenomenal actress.

2. Rosie O' Donnel's blog. You're hooked after one visit.

Stephen Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:09 AM EST

The current cover of US WEEKLY with a pic of kelly clarkson admitting to past bulemia, next to a pic of Jess Simpson and how she dropped 20 lbs. (Did NO ONE on their staff notice that?)

Musttt Tue, Jun 26, 2007 at 12:06 AM EST

Movies- Knocked Up, 1408
Music- The Rocket Summer's "So Much Love"

and randomly, i recently discovered the movie adaptation of RENT, and i must say, its phenomenal.

Jimmy Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 11:58 PM EST

Wanda Sykes in Evan Almighty.

It seems any movie shes placed in, no matter what character role she takes, i laugh hysterically. Shes a comedic genius.

Ep Sato Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 11:55 PM EST

My must is Harry Dean Stanton in Big Love. I loved him as crazy fool "the Brain" in Escape From NY, as the crazed mcguffin case haulin' Repo Man, and as the crazed victim in Alien.

But his previous roles have proven prelide to his stint at a poligamist backstabber who turns his back on kin for the sake of a business deal. Trump is chumpchange compared to this backroom dealer.

White Stripes, Icky Thump. The musical cure for those of us not interested in Paris Hilton's post-prison plans.

Roger Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 11:39 PM EST

Harry Potter podcasts. Especially Mugglecast. it's great for these last few weeks heading up to the fifth movie and final book.

my must for the summer is definately kathy griffin: my life on the d-list. she's hilarious! kathy hunny, while you would rock The View, the d-list is where you belong. and that's why i enjoy the show so much...she is like the hollywood outsider looking in, and that's why we love her for it.

Alexei Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 11:17 PM EST

Right now, Rihanna's "Shut Up and Drive" is my favorite song. It's surprisingly rock-oriented, but is still incredibly hot. This is definitely my song of the summer and I can't wait for it to blow up as her next single.

Alex French Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 11:08 PM EST

I know it's been out for almost four months now, but my Must music right now is definitely Arcade Fire's Neon Bible. My favorite song on the album has changed about five times - always the sign of a great album - including "Keep the Car Running," "Intervention," and the French-fable-based "The Well and the Lighthouse."
Also, on the TV front: Pirate Master. There's no way to watch a full episode without laughing. One captain who serves the crew gruel while enjoying an omlette himself? Another captain who adopted a British accent? A crew member with an unbreakable vendetta? What's not to love?

Stephen Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 11:02 PM EST

CHRISETE MICHELE "I AM"--a jazzy throwback to old-time blues music. Think Norah Jones with rhythm

Chris Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:52 PM EST

I would have to say I am totally hooked on HELL'S KITCHEN. Don't know who I am rooting for yet but I just love the show. So far, I love the new Pirates I wish it was doing better at the box office. Also I just saw and loved 1408. John Cusack's preformance should be on the must list.

Phil Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:35 PM EST

Gotta agree with Fabian there, but in all fairness, Mark Ronson's full cd "Version" is coming out here in the U.S. on July 10th. The previously mentioned single, "Stop Me" Feat. Daniel Merriweather is currently available on iTunes, but I also encourage everyone to purchase the "Stop Me" E.P. which also includes Mark's remake of Queen Of The Stone Age's "No One Knows" which won't be included on the full length. "Version" also features vocals from the current British faves, Amy Winehouse on "Valerie" & Lily Allen & Busta Rhymes covering the Kasier Chiefs' "Oh My God". THE BRITISH ARE COMING! (And my iPod couldn't be HAPPIER!!)

Houstonian Jen in Baltimore Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:34 PM EST

I just finished reading "I Love You, Beth Cooper" by Larry Doyle. He is a former writer on 'The Simpsons' (and he lives in Baltimore). It was a fast and fun read. Basically, a gawky high school valedictorian makes a declaration during his graduation speech...and hijinks ensue. This book is not just for teenagers. As a formerly self-(un)aware nerd, I enjoyed laughing and cringing at the main character's cluelessness. There is an interesting use of illustrations and the pop-culture references are EVERYWHERE. Definitely something for the EW crowd to read.

Roman Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:32 PM EST

Oh and forgot to add "Army Wives" for TV. I know it's on Lifetime and should be complete smuck, but it's the perfect summer show. Same goes for (don't shoot me!)...Flavor of Love: Charm School. Those girls are so effing ghetto.

Roman Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:29 PM EST

I'm thinking that the Must List should include "Transformers" and "My December". I'm crazy excited for Transformers on July 4 because it looks awesome and I'm currently in love with Kelly Clarkson's "My December" which comes out tomorrow.

daisyj Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:27 PM EST

I love travel shows, and Michael Palin has done some of the best. Which is why the top item on my Must List right now is the recently-released dvd for his first one, "Around the World in Eighty Days" (A Python circles the globe!), where he follows in the tracks of Phileas Fogg, only with more time spent on an Arab dhow and less on saving an Indian princess.

Todd Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:26 PM EST

My Current Must List:
Mika - Life in Cartoon Motion (CD)/
Kathy Griffin - My Life on the D List (TV)/
Pandora.com (Great unique online radio site)

Music videos?

Vickie Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:19 PM EST

Little People, Big World is a fantastic reality show that's actually based in reality. The Roloffs are entertaining to watch because they are so real.

Alex Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:19 PM EST

Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad - It's a great summer album.
So You Think You Can Dance - Great performances and fresh music

RaMina Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 10:16 PM EST

The Maroon 5 song "Little of Your Time." I can't wait to throw parties at my new place so I can play this song and dance to it with people and not just alone in my room. I'm also really into "Spring Awakening" right now. The music is fantastic, the lyrics are beautiful, and the performers are incredible. They have such great voices for being so young. If anyone is in New York, I recommend seeing it. Changed my life.

TV:
American Inventor: Amazing slice of America from heroes trying to invient stuff tosave people to cerifiable wackaddos who have invested everything in a version of a stick (almost every city).
TV:
Watching Cash Cab a lot. Funny show and the host is great. But mainly watching so I can try and spot the cab on the street one day. Dont care if I am in front of my apt building, I am getting in that cab one day!
Movie:
Have a feeling that Transformers will be the movie to beat this summer. It is the first big budget special effects movie of the summer that is not a sequal. Which means in two years we will all be disapointed with Transformers Two.
Reading: Nothing new. With Kurt Vonneguts recent death I am re-reading his works this summer.
Music:
With Britny, Lindsy, and Paris all in dire strights I am wondering if we are nearing the end of popgirl power and something else will come along...is it too early for a grundge revival?

So far ahead on the Paris Hilton story that the editor is on Larry King Live tonight.

Movies: Knocked Up, The Bourne Ultimatum
Books: The Ruins, World War Z

For TV- I second DTodd with Confession of a Matchmaker (though it's Patti Novak, not Debbie) along with HK- I love Ramsay's tirades!
For music- I can't get enough of Maroon 5- it took a couple of listens but I'm loving Adam and the boys.

Media Maven Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:44 PM EST

Diana Chronicles by Tina Brown (a snarky insider's look at the life of the late princess).

Foyle's War on PBS

repeats of Friday Night Lights

Jasper Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:41 PM EST

This is hard since I'm used to hearing about stuff on the Must List and then checking it out. Right now the only things that make me happy are Harry Potter and Amy Winehouse (and ice cream!). Winston's pick is good though. In the future though, I'd love if Fiona Apple would put out a new album and Tom Cruise could do a film to remind us why we used to like him so much.

DTodd Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:39 PM EST

I stumbled onto Bravo's "Confessions of a Matchmaker" and I am HOOKED. Debbie Novak tells it like it is and gives some really good dating advice to regular people. Plus, it's set in BUFFALO.

Jenn Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:32 PM EST

To read? Janet Evanovich - Hilarious
To watch? The Real Estate Pros/TLC, Big Brother/CBS, Entourage/HBO, Top Chef/Bravo
For my listening pleasure? the live downloads from AOL and iTunes...mini concerts for my ears. Also, Keith Urban's Summer Concert Tour...pure fun and awesome musicianship in 3 hours (at least last time I saw him it was 3 hours).

Stephanie Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:30 PM EST

I have been playing Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" album non-stop on my i-pod. I cannot get enough of her swearing, sultry, throw-back to Nina Simone style. Favorite song right now: Tears Dry On Their Own.

winston Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:29 PM EST

my pick is michelle pfeiffer! i mean come on! how could u not include a CLASSIC A-LIST actress making her big comeback in '07 with 2 of the summer's highly anticipated films: STARDUST & HAIRSPRAY!

MsDaisy Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:26 PM EST

I'm waiting to see how much bigger Kelly Clarkson's butt is going to get this summer.

Stephen Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:24 PM EST

"On Chesil Beach"- beautiful, artistic, masterful

"My Life on the D-List"- absolutely hilarious but with a big heart

Rebecca Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:24 PM EST

Zen of Fish by Trevor Corson (the same guy who wrote secret lives of lobster) is amazing. I couldn't put it down! And now I have a really bad craving for sushi...

Jyoti Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:23 PM EST

Summer Must List - So You Think You Can Dance. The end of Passions on NBC. Kyle XY and The 4400.

As listed below the Lovely English Lasses of song, Lily, Amy and Corinne. I have their albums on loop on my nano. I'm loving their music. They all have a wonderful old school texture that appeals to my reincarnated soul.

My biggest MUST for the summer though, is Carnival/Kadooment in Barbados. That's a must for Everyone who loves a good party, gorgeous beaches and just a fun two weeks in the sun. Which brings to mind Rhianna and her album, which I'm actually enjoying as well. Even if I'm desperate to get 'ella, ella, ella, a, a, a' out of my head.

dalabillz Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:15 PM EST

my must list for the summer is FOOTBALLERS WIVES and SUNSCREEN YO!
and BUFFY dvd marathons!!!!!!!!!!!!
and the new HARRY POTTER MOVIE!!

sananto Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:12 PM EST

guilty pleasure: ARMY WIVES. It's soap opera style fun & has a pretty good cast. Kim Delaney's always great & Sally Pressman, whom I've never seen before, is pretty cute. Other thatn that, my other MUST is ENTOURAGE(did I redeem myself?)

Fabian Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:10 PM EST

"Stop Me" by Mark Ronson feat Daniel Merriweather

Has potential to be the "Crazy" of 2007. An uber-hot single!!!! Album releases in July

Dara Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:07 PM EST

Feist's new music video for "1234". It's vibrant, joyful and simple in the best of ways.

dahippo Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 09:04 PM EST

I would have to say So You Think You Can Dance. It is more engaging than most competition-based reality shows, and done much better than American Idol, despite having the same producers. Not to mention I sacrificed my sleep for this show (only 2 hours of sleep on Wednesday night!!), and I do love my sleep.

Steph S. Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 08:58 PM EST

My must see TV this summer? The Real Estate Pros (a.k.a. The Real Deal) on TLC. Watching Richard, Ginger and the rest of the gang at Trademark flip houses and make serious jack doing it (all while dropping such memorable quotes as "Save the drama for ya mama" and "Winner, winner, chicken dinner")is a hoot. It's pure Southern-fried fun, and proves that there are some smart, savvy people south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Thane Economou Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 08:46 PM EST

Entourage

Matthew Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 08:32 PM EST

In the Music part of my must list, I have to include all the new female British songbirds that are entering the charts and the music scene in the U.S. of A.
From the bad girls-the sweet vocals reggae/pop beats of Lily Allen and the always soulful Amy Winehouse, to the the songbird Corinne Bailey Rae, and the addictive pop/rock ballads of KT Tunstall and the sweetly addictive tunes of Natasha Bedinfield.
These Brits should ALWAYS be on a must list.

whol Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 08:32 PM EST

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Maribel Verdu...two great actors that recently got invited to become voting members of the AMPAS. Their recent performances in Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth really prove that they deserve it.

Chris Richards Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 08:31 PM EST

"Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife" by Mary Roach. Normally, I don't tackle nonfiction. But this book's premise intrigued me and I have just fallen in love with the dry humor of the author, who both agrees and disagrees with all kinds of different views affirming, denying and wondering about the existence of the human soul, and is there a way to prove it? She travels to India, investigates centuries of medical data, and it's all worth it. I love this book!

Hannah Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 08:25 PM EST

The National's new album called Boxer. Matt Berninger's gorgeous deep voice over lush guitar ramblings. After winning over audiences while opening for Arcade Fire, they're now touring on their own.

Matthew Cruz Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 08:21 PM EST

-Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur
Funky and fresh covers from modern artists induced with the social conscience of Lennon's lyrics, the concept of the CD itself is a must. But for smooth listening, download Christina Aguilera's dreamy rendition of "Mother" and Avril Lavigne's surpisingly tender and heartfelt version of "Imagine."

E.B. Berman Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 07:53 PM EST

It came out a couple months ago, but I just found out: the Detroit Cobras' new album Tried and True. A new set of obscure R&B chestnuts given a garage-rock overhaul. It's hard to believe so many great songs could have fallen through the cracks of time and it's great to hear them revived by Rachel Nagy who's got the the bar-none best female rock and roll voice since Sister Janis.

Aaron Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 07:37 PM EST

New in paperback, I can't put down "Winkie," Clifford Chase's bizarre and eerily relevant novel about a teddy bear imprisoned for terrorism.
