Help Emmy hopefuls compile their highlight reels

Jun 8, 2007, 01:27 PM | by Michael Slezak

Categories: Emmys, Television

Jake_l Last week, we had a rousing discussion about which actors and shows deserved to score Emmy nominations come July 19 — with a special focus on longshot and first-time candidates. Today, I thought it might be fun for all of us to focus on one particular thespian and suggest which episode he or she ought to submit to the Emmy judging panels to increase his or her odds of scoring a statuette.

I'd like to see Medium's Jake Weber (pictured) get rewarded for his work on the Feb. 14 episode "The One Behind the Wheel," during which his wife Allison (Emmy-winner Patricia Arquette) gets possessed by the spirit of a woman who's been involved in a serious car accident. Not only does Weber make his character's pain and frustration completely palpable (and darkly humorous) but he also gets a chance to trade in his resident-cynic cap and try to convince the haughty spirit inside his wife that all this psychic possession stuff isn't completely crazy. If you missed the episode, click here and here, and you'll get a glimpse of why Weber deserves to be in the Supporting Actor in a Drama race (for the no-longer-on-the-bubble series). Which episode best represents your favorite actor or series' great Emmy hope? Reveal all in the comments section below.

poochie Mon, Jun 11, 2007 at 12:49 PM EST

I hope Emmy voters don't forget about "Rome" & "Friday Night Lights."

denny Mon, Jun 11, 2007 at 11:24 AM EST

Sandra Oh just needs to send in her last scene in the season finale of Grey's. She was superb throughout the whole episode, but that scene was the single finest acting moment by anyone on television this past year.

And can we please finally get some love for Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson as Seth and Summer on The O.C.? Hands down the best relationship on TV.

Kristen Bell is always great on Veronica Mars, but she outdid herself in "Spit & Eggs".

Alec Baldwin could send in anything, as he always steals the show on 30 Rock. Same for Jamie Pressly on My Name Is Earl and just about the entire supporting cast of Ugly Betty, especially Mark Indelicato.

A. Gates Mon, Jun 11, 2007 at 10:49 AM EST

Dominic Monaghan for the LOST episode "Greatest Hits." I had waited for Charlie to get his shining moment, and this episode was just right.

Darby Mon, Jun 11, 2007 at 09:13 AM EST

Completely agree about Jake in Medium. He astonishes me every episode with how well he embodies Joe. Would love to see him recognized!

JuJuBee Sun, Jun 10, 2007 at 10:04 PM EST

If the Emmy's like to award exiting shows, PLEASE give one to the entire cast of VM. Even though I know awards shows have never recognized its brilliance, VM should win something on its last year. Others, James Callis & Mary McD on BSG, Lauren Graham-AND Oh, yeah Heroes!!! Most definitely..The guy playing Sylar is creeptastic!!

Sam L Sun, Jun 10, 2007 at 06:23 PM EST

I agree about Medium's Jake Weber being nominated for Supporting Actor in a Drama. I would also like to see win: Jaime Pressly for My Name Is Earl
Zach Braff for Scrubs
Ian McShane for Deadwood
Lauren Graham for Gilmore Girls.

Sun, Jun 10, 2007 at 05:41 PM EST

Best Drama Series: Lost, 24, Heroes, Friday Night Lights, The Sopranos
Best Comedy Series: The Office, My Name Is Earl, The New Adventures of Old Christine, 30 Rock, Monk

jules Sun, Jun 10, 2007 at 04:43 PM EST

Matthew Fox as Jack on Lost in the season finale, "Through The Looking Glass". He was so convincing and heartbreaking in that episode.

Maple Jenny Sun, Jun 10, 2007 at 04:38 PM EST

I know this is an odd choice, but "A Tale of Two Cities" for Jack--I think that was the one where he was doubting Sarah's fidelity, and at the end, when he could find out anything about her now, he asked "Is she happy?" Broke my heart; such a great performance that episode.
On a side note, I wish the Emmy would have an entire cast category like the SAGs. Lots of people are wishing whole casts could get noms, and with so many big cast shows with great acting, why not share the love? Emmys, are you listening?

Sun, Jun 10, 2007 at 04:01 PM EST

I agree. If it were a just world and the Emmy's measured talent rather than popularity (which they usually catch on too late to anyway and award sub par epsiodes of shows that once were good), you'd see noms for the incredible, nuanced work done by Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, and Adrianne Palicki on FNL.

And Katee, Sackhoff, Mary McD, Michael Hogan and James Callis would already have one at least twice.

Spread the love, Emmy!

JillyRose Sun, Jun 10, 2007 at 01:07 PM EST

The actor who plays T-Bag on PRISON BREAK (Robert K). His acting is the bomb, superb, needs a nom as best supporting actor in a drama.

For best supporting actor in a comedy....the guy who plays Mark on UGLY BETTY.

graeme Sun, Jun 10, 2007 at 11:56 AM EST

Julia Louis-Dreyfus "Oh God, Yes"
Calista Flockhart "Mistakes Were Made, Part 1"
Kate Walsh "Time Has Come Today" or "The Other Side Of This Life"
Jenna Fischer "The Job"
Ellen Pompeo "Wishin' and Hopin'"
Lorraine Bracco "The Blue Comet"
Teri Hatcher "Gossip"
Josh Holloway "The Brig"

Josh Sat, Jun 9, 2007 at 10:46 PM EST

Rachel Griffiths has been beyond amazing on Brothers & Sisters, especially towards the end of the season. She should definitely get a supporting actress nod.

Janey Sat, Jun 9, 2007 at 12:05 PM EST

"The Office" needs to get nominated for Best Comedy Series. I love Rainn Wilson and think he should get the nod for the Supporting Actor category!

Dave Sat, Jun 9, 2007 at 11:47 AM EST

I would definitely like to see ROME get noticed this year - in particular Polly Walker for another brilliant, brilliant season.

Every July my fingers are tightly crossed for Veronica Mars (long shot), Lauren Graham (WHY is she still a long shot?!), Battlestar (longer shot!), and Weeds (not a long shot - but more ppl need to be watching).

This season I definitely want to see some love for something OTHER than Grey's & The Sopranos. Nothing's worse than an Emmy ceremony dominated by a couple of shows.

Sam Sat, Jun 9, 2007 at 10:52 AM EST

Best Comedy
The office
the old adventures of new christine
ugly betty
Two and a half men
desparate housewives

best drama
Lost
grey's anatomy
sopranos
brothers and sisters
24

jake Sat, Jun 9, 2007 at 10:49 AM EST

Best comedy series -- funniest show on the air -- THE OLD ADVENTURES OF NEW CHRISTINE. If they would just give it a slot, it has a definite shot of winning.

LOST should be nominated. Evangelline Lilly and Elizabeth Mitchell are Must nominate actors -- are they actress and supporting???

Lauren Sat, Jun 9, 2007 at 09:34 AM EST

James Callis (Battlestar) - before his verdict, when he's a pouting mess, and after his verdict, when he regains his swagger.

Alan (Canada) Sat, Jun 9, 2007 at 12:46 AM EST

Actually LG, Maura Tierney did get an Emmy nod in her first season on ER, though she likely has deserved many more.

I mean, the other Paige Sat, Jun 9, 2007 at 12:12 AM EST

Apparently there are a few Paiges running around. In this thread, I'm the one who DOES watch Medium. Every week.

Paige Sat, Jun 9, 2007 at 12:09 AM EST

Jake Weber and Patricis Arquette AND the kids do stellar work every week.

The premise is supposed to be the hook, but what really gets you is how they relate to each other as a family.

If the hostage story gets Weber his due though, I'm all for it.

Snsetbllaze Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 11:11 PM EST

Michael Hogan from Battlestar Galactica - the one where he has to kill Ellen or the episode of Baltar's trial. Jamie Bamber from same show - Baltar's trial episode. Lucy Lawless for the entire guest star run.

Eddie Izzard for the meth meltdown episode and Minnie Driver for just about every episode of the Riches.

Dominic Monaghan and Matthew Fox in Lost's season finale. Michael Emerson for every episode that he's in.

starchild Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 10:24 PM EST

Not only is Jake Weber a great actor, he's a fox.

Margie Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 09:32 PM EST

Not to burst the bubble of this post, but I thought the deadline for submitting episodes has passed? But the good news is that according to Boomer over on theenvelope.com, Jake Weber did submit "The One Behind the Wheel" for consideration. He does a great job with what could be a one note character on a show that is cooler than most people realize. My favorite line of the season was when his character said something like "I don't have to ask about your day, I already know. You had a dream, someone didn't believe you, but then they did and it all turned out okay."

My favorite dark horse Emmy candidate is Mary McDonnell on Battlestar Galactica. The show is great, although not as great as everyone says it is, but she is really the best thing about it. Her range and strength are inspiring, and she manages to remain personal yet presidential in every scene. If only we could find a female candidate in real life who could strike that kind of balance.

Michael Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 08:38 PM EST

4 I hope to see on the ballot:

Jenna Fischer-The Office
Minnie Driver-The Riches (should win)
Jake Weber-Medium
Vanessa Williams-Ugly Betty

LG Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 08:19 PM EST

Maura Tierney. What else does this woman have to do to get an Emmy nom?

Henry Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 08:03 PM EST

I am not sure why you guys are even wasting your breath---it's going to the sopranos all the way --as it's always is with departing shows --the Emmys love to give an emmy to a departing show --and beteween the sopranos is above the rest of the shows is on TV right now no matter what way you slice it - and that episode where AJ was going to drown brought the best acting in james gandolfini, Edie falcoe, and the actor that played AJ---so as much as I would love to see Mathew fox or anyone from lost get it --it's the sopranos all the way --they will go out with a bang

Iasaiah Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 07:44 PM EST

Oops. That was supposed to say Michael Urie, not Marc.

Isaiah Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 07:42 PM EST

Nominations I would like to see (but know most will probably never come to be):

Best Comedy: How I Met Your Mother, Ugly Betty, Scrubs, Desperate Housewives, Entourage

Best Supp. Dram Actress: Elizabeth Mitchell, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Melinda Clark, Autumn Reaser

bootsycolumbia Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 07:30 PM EST

Dominic Monaghan deserves a nomination for the last two episodes of Lost. I also thought Matthew Fox, who usually seems to be dismissed as a lightweight, was really good this season, so I hope he gets nominated as well. The entire cast of Friday Night Lights should be nominated. I agree with the comments posted already about Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler and Adrienne Palicki, but I'd also like to add Gaius Charles, Minka Kelly and Zach Gilford to the mix. They all had complex storylines to maneuver and all three did so with a lot of style.
I was pi*sed off that Neil Patrick Harris wasn't nominated last year, so I'm really hoping he'll get a nomination this year (the episode that tells how he became Uncle Barney was so sweet, as was the Price is Right episode). Also Cobie Smulders (sp?) for the episode where she revealed her Canadian popstar past. Shades of Alanis Morrisette's early years as Alanis! There must be a few Canuck writers on that show to nail that sequence so well!

Cory Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 07:29 PM EST

I would love to see Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost get nominated, and I think she should submit the episode "One of Us." She was marvelous in it. Additionally, I would like to see Kristen Bell get nominated, as she was great in the series finale of Veronica Mars.

Michael Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 06:42 PM EST

I would suggest that the people associated with How I Met Your Mother submit the episode with the slap bet and the discovery that Robin was a Canadian pop star. I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard at an episode of television.

Annie Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 06:32 PM EST

The entire cast of The Office should be nominated, but I'll be happy as long as Jenna Fischer gets recognized for the wonderful work she's done this season, transforming herself into Fancy New Beesly. She was particularly wonderful in Grief Counseling, Business School, Beach Games, and The Job. I'd also love to see Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop nominated. But that should probably go without saying.

Alan (Canada) Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 06:01 PM EST

For me, the episode of Lost that focused on Yun Jun Kim's character, Sun, and her worries about her unborn child was a classic example of why she's the best actor on that show. Just as with her initial spotlight episode in the first season, this season's episode showed just how effortlessly Kim is able to express so many different emotions simply with her eyes and mouth. Also, Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop from the Gilmore Girls both deserve nods--Graham for the season finale where she has to convey such a wide range of feelings about Rory's impending departure and Bishop for the episode that focused on Richard's heart attack. And Jenna Fisher's work in The Office and Ethan Suplee's in My Name Is Earl also deserve mention, the former for her subtle and dry comedic turns in every scene she's in, and the latter for doing stupidity just right (e.g. the episode where he sings that munchkin song from The Wizard of Oz after inhaling from a balloon, only to discover there was no helium in it

actingup Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 05:57 PM EST

I meant "big success of the show". Yeesh - I can't type today.

actingup Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 05:56 PM EST

Hear hear! Excellent! I love "MediuM" - and a big part of the success of the shoe is due to Jake Weber. His humor and twist he puts on so many of his line readings makes him so deserving of an Emmy nomination.

And I have to repeat earlier posts which I totally agree on - Michael Emerson and Josh Holloway for "Lost" and Lauren Graham for "Gilmore Girls". Her singing to Luke was so bittersweet. And any episode of "The New Adventures of Old Christine" gets my vote. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is HILARIOUS!

Alan (Canada) Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 05:48 PM EST

I'd like to see the Shield and Battlestar Galatica get a little Emmy love this year. Great seasons for both shows. Probably won't happen, though.

Allan Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 05:28 PM EST

Dominic Monaghan in the Lost season finale was so remarkable that he deserves a supporting actor nomination even though his character didn't get much attentiont he rest of the season.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS--should be nominated in all categories. I agree with everyone who has mentioned Connie, Kyle and Adrienne, but I also think Minka Kelly did stellar work in "It's Different for Girls." But seriously, the entire cast should garner wins if it were possible.

Stef Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 04:08 PM EST

I agree with the people that say that the Emmys probably won't get it right. Every year I get excited and hopeful and every year it seems to get worse. Remember the Ellen Burstyn thing last year? It always seems to be the movie stars that "slum it" in television who get nominated, whether they deserve it or not. They usually only get about 3 people right. I'm gonna try not to get my hopes up, but knowing me, I'll probably get excited again.

oh for real???? that sucks... he plays sylar so well! i dont watch medium cause patricia arquette is kinda annoying so i guess im just gonna have to take your word for this guys performance...

Cookie Monster Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 03:32 PM EST

Paige,

Unfortunately, the great Zachary Quinto cannot apply for a regular supporting actor emmy, right? Wasn't he technically a guest star all season. Have to wait til next year, when he's a regular, for Sylar to steal his next power: the power of Hollywood! (AKA the Emmy)
So in his absence, I agree with the Jake Weber suggestion--most underrated actor working right now--don't believe me? Dawn of the Dead (new one)

paige Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 03:14 PM EST

wanna play the nomination game? the rules are: fill 5 slots with the usual categories!
Best Comedy: The Office, Ugly Betty, Scrubs, Weeds, Entourage

Best Com Actress: America Ferrara, Mary Louise Parker, Felicity Huffman, Julia Louis-dreyfuss, Tina Fey

Best Supp. Dram Actress: Elizabeth Mitchell, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Hayden Panettiere

sarah Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 03:11 PM EST

oh yeah I think that Neil Patrick Harris should win for the episode of How I Met Your Mother where he's on the Price is Right. He plays the character Barney soooooo well. He deserves an Emmy if only for all the catchphrases he's made: Legen..wait for it..dary, suit up, etc.

Jen Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 03:10 PM EST

I wholeheartedly agree regarding Jake Weber. I got chills as I remembered the episode while reading your blog. That episode was moving to the core.

Mike Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 03:08 PM EST

Felicity and Laurie for the supermarket shootout on Desperate Housewives is a definite.
Julia Louis Dreyfus for any episode of Old Christine. The writing sometimes sucks, but she is always great.
Also, even though Gilmour Girls suffered in its last season, a sweet parting gift would be nominations for Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop. The best episode would be the heart attack show where the series came together at last.

Mike Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 03:08 PM EST

I agree, Michael Emerson is creepily awesome! I do enjoy Jake Webber but Emerson outshines him! But as far as LOST goes, my fave show, I like Terry O'Quinn and Josh Holloway as leads for noms. Matthew Fox is so blah.

And I love Lauren Graham!

So Drama: Emerson
Comedy: McGinley
Dramedy (?): Graham

sarah Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 03:02 PM EST

someone probably already said this but that guy in the picture looks like a young Ben from Lost shoot.

Nancy Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 02:58 PM EST

I don't watch Medium, and I don't want this guy to win, because that is Michael Emerson's category, Slezak, so step off. Kidding. Emerson should win for every time he's on screen. Okay, little dramatic there...he should win for "The Man Behind the Curtain." He could also be nominated for his performance in the finale.

Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 02:48 PM EST

Henry Ian Cusick in the episode "flashes before your eyes"

Elaine Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 02:47 PM EST

Jenna Fischer - Beach Games, so awesome.
Jon C. McGinley - oh hell, does it really matter what episode? As long as Braff does not get a nom (he did not deserve one this season)
Rachel Griffiths - The next to last episode of Brothers and Sisters (when she and Joe are telling the kids about their impending divorce)
Rainn Wilson - the episode when he quits Dunder Mifflin and works at Staples.

Joe Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 02:26 PM EST

Matthew Fox for the season finale of Lost. The character had become really, really annoying but that episode brought back the Jack that everyone remembered from the first season.

scifiaddict Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 02:17 PM EST

What about Mary McDonnell and Katee Sackoff? They are the best actresses on Tv. Personally thier lack of nomanation show that the Emmy's are nothing but a popularity contest. I think the idea that McDreamy is one of the best actors on tv is laughable. I like him and he's good but not one of the best, especially when you stack him up agianst Edward James Olmos or even his co-star Isaiah Washington(bad person great actor). I haven't watched The Emmy's in years because I think their not about who truly is the best. The Daytime Emmy's actually have more credibility in my books

Ryan Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 02:16 PM EST

Angela Kinsey - A Benihana Christmas
Melinda Clarke - The Cold Turkey
Nicolette Sheridan - Gossip
Tina Fey - The Fighting Irish

Stef Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 02:09 PM EST

Geez, Michael, you are so right about that episode of "Medium." That made me shed more than a few tears, all thanks to Jake's great performance. You could tell how much he loved his wife.
"The Job" was a great "Office" episode for Rainn Wilson and Ed Helms. Plus it was an hour long, so extra time for them. They were so hilarious. Painting the office black to strike fear in his subordinates. Great!

jen Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 02:07 PM EST

I would agree with this addition. He is wonderful on Medium, and even though the ratings aren't through the roof, this show is always solid. I would also say he is Emmy worthy in the episode where his co-worker takes 4 people hostage. He was wonderful in that, along with the episodes following which deal with the aftermath of being traumitized by an incident like that.

Ceballos Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 02:04 PM EST

Walton Goggins and Michael Chiklis for the "Chasing Ghosts" episode of "The Shield."

Watching those two in the scene where the truth about Lem's death comes out...I'll just say Goggins deserved an Emmy just for making me see HIS side of things.

Robert Iler in "The Second Coming" of "The Sopranos"

Michael Emerson in "The Man Behind the Curtain on "Lost"...(before Jacob talked, I thought Ben was a lunatic talking to that empty chair)

Ames Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:59 PM EST

The guy that plays Sawyer on Lost in the episode I think is called the brink, where he kills the Locke's dad. When he kept saying "read the letter" it was so heartbreakingly pitiful. A real honest moment on a show known for gimmicks.

trigrrrcut Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:55 PM EST

As far as THE OFFICE goes "Traveling Salesmen" is really the way to go if you want Steve Carrell and Rainn Wilson both getting nominations. However I might also put in the good word for the "Grief Counseling" would probably work best in Jenna Fischer's favor.

As far as 30 ROCK goes the later in the season the better, I feel like Tina Fey didn't find her skin until she got back together with her ex.

A little off topic: I would love to see 'Human Giant' pick up the 'Mr. Show' slot in the comedy and variety categories, it'll never win but the attention would be awesome.

Roman Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:50 PM EST

I've got to throw my support behind Kristen Bell of Veronica Mars, who, despite an uneven season, consistently shined in every episode. Her best work is a toss-up between the November 28 episode "Spit and Eggs" (which was an all-around fantastic episode and should garner a Best drama nod) or "Papa's Cabin" on February 27, when Veronica thoroughly eviscerated Tim the T.A. as Dean O'Dell's killer. Classic VM for sure and brilliant acting by all involved parties.

Patti Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:42 PM EST

John C. McGinley from Scrubs and Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls

Danny Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:33 PM EST

Mary Louise Parker - Mrs. Botwin's Neighborhood. Her range here is fantastic...she goes from her sly, underplayed wit in dealing with the new, dangerous competition to her growhouse, to tears of true rage when she protects her son from his girlfriend's father. The latter scene is incredible and one of her many highlights in the season.

Felicity Huffman, Laurie Metcalf - Bang. The best and most talked about episode of the season' culminating scene--Huffman erratically challenging the fantastic Metcalf, while being held at gunpoint.

Jim Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:22 PM EST

Jake Weber is a great name that is rarely mentioned. Some others along those lines are Patricia Wettig in Brothers and Sisters, Adrian Pasdar in Heroes, Steven Weber in Studio 60 and Jason Segel in How I Met your Mother.

Steve Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:18 PM EST

Glad to see Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton getting mentions, but I would love to see Adrianne Palicki get a nomination. She took what could have been a stock character (small town trashy girl) and fleshed out a fully realized character that truly stood out from type and from the ensemble.

charlie Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:10 PM EST

kristen bell in every episode of veronica, but particularly in "spit & eggs" when she finds out that mercer is the rpist and she stabs him with a unicorn statue, and the rest of the climax of that episode. or any scene from the finale episode.

Nick Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:06 PM EST

how about amanda peet in studio 60, despite the fact that i am apparently the only one watching it

Kevo Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:02 PM EST

I agree with Jenna Fischer for Beach Games. Also:

Elizabeth Mitchell on Lost for "One of Us"
Matthew Fox on Lost for the Season Finale
Jack Coleman on Heroes for "Company Man"
Chandra Wilson for every scene she steals on Grey's Anatomy
Alec Baldwin for every episode he steals on 30 Rock

Danielle Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 01:00 PM EST

Lauren Graham totally deserves a nomination for best actress, specifically for the episode where she sings "I Will Always Love You". That was an amazing scene.

Jenna Fischer for "Beach Games." Her speech was heartbreaking, uplifting, and exactly what Office fans have been waiting three seasons for. Fischer's work has been fantastic the entire season, but this was her best moment.

Steve Carell-"The Coup." A new side of Michael Scott, and one of his best moments.

oh, ok, it does say a specific thespian/episode - well, John C. McGinley, Dr. Cox, deserves an Emmy nod for EVERY episode. He ROCKS!!

I don't know if you mean specifically drama - but the episode of Scrubs "My Musical" deserves kudos in every category, especially writing!

ROBERT KNEPPER - portrays T-Bag on Prison Break. The man is pure genius in any scene. He deserves our praise, an Emmy and a bow - we're not worthy!

Yay! Another Jake Weber fan! He is a huge reason I watch Medium. The husband character could be such a throwaway character, but he plays Joe so well, I like him better than Allison!

Eddie Izzard on crystal meth and Minnie Driver in about every episode of "The Riches". They are amazing. Robert Iler for his suicide episode of "The Sopranos". And Brett Ratner just for asking Drama if he was retarded on "Entourage". I have often wondered the same thing.

Connie Britton - I Think We Should Have Sex. Most specifically, the scene where she and Julie have The Talk. I actually got that weird tight feeling in my chest that I used to get when my mom yelled at me. From a woman who is not my mother. On television. Now THAT'S Emmy-worthy.

Kyle Chandler - Eyes Wide Open. Especially the scene where he visits Jason in the hospital. The entire scene is played with both men on the verge of tears and with me no longer on the verge, but full on sobbing.

Jenna Fischer - Beach Games, her speech. Quite possibly the greatest moment of the season, and a fitting end to one of the best character arc's I've ever seen.

I have more, but those are my top three. And what a top three they are.
