you're all too old to be eating much candy anyway so it doesn't matter that you don't get it, but this commercial is a huge hit, viral all over the place, one of the top videos on yotube with thousands of people saying it's the best they ever saw so sorry but you people, esp you advertising people, are clueless. but you understand them tylenol ads, right? it a new dawn baby!

Furry:
I think that I was five when that came out but I remember it. My Mom and Dad loved that one and I am not sure why because it was stupid. Sometimes stupid works. A perfect example was the Joe Izuzu commericals. A friend of mine and I were talking about that a week ago. They were stupid, yet effective. I always hated the Carrot Top 1-800 commercials. Then again,I never found Carrot Top funny. He's just a safe version of Gallagher with too much blush and eyeliner.

If we're looking for retarded commercials, you can't do any better than "You can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay..."

To be fair the worst commerical out there right now is the "Go Meat" commercial. It gets the point across but it is retarded.
Stephanie Travitsky Wed, May 2, 2007 at 11:59 AM EST
Yeah, this is the guy who got his butt kicked from Strangers with Candy. The point of the commerical is that we are supposed to laugh at this guy making a fool of himself in the get up. It is a small chuckle, but this was clearly thought up by someone who smoked up and watched the episodes of America's Funniest Home Videos where daddy gets hit in the whoppers with a football. There is no connection between the product and the story. Sorry.

Wow I never thought Buster Brown would make a comeback! Way to go Starburst!
Matt Wed, May 2, 2007 at 02:30 AM EST
Okay, okay. I apologize for the "joyless frumps" comment below. (It's been kind of a bad day, sorry.) And Peter, I detest the comedy of Carlos Mencia and Dane Cook with an intensity that burns brighter and hotter than the forges of Vulcan. I still think these commercials are funny, though.

"Does anyone recognize this dude from "Strangers With Candy"? He used to get punched repeatedly; they should do that in these ads."
LMAO i do he used to say im so jazzed and they kicked the crapped out of him classic
Aloha Tue, May 1, 2007 at 09:34 PM EST
Immature, stupid and ridiculous is how I describe this commercial. I mean who thought of this? It looks like something put together by a bunch of 1st graders. (Not that I'm cracking on 1st graders, but you know what I mean.) I don't like it! It's insane.
berf Tue, May 1, 2007 at 09:07 PM EST
When I saw it for the first time, I thought it was not funny at all and really stupid.
I saw it again and now its grown on me. It's pretty hilarious

These commercials are awesome...and adding that you work in advertising doesn't justify your comments anymore.
Charles Tue, May 1, 2007 at 08:15 PM EST
What's wrong with you people? This is the best commercial I've seen in years. What are you going to remember? This or some generic commercial with a Mellencamp soundtrack?
Just look at the discussion it's generated. I've had dreams about buying berries and cream starbursts because of this. Now that's what I call advertising
Jyoti Tue, May 1, 2007 at 07:27 PM EST
Is it just me or does he look like a shorter ten pounds heavier Jimmy Fallon?
Razor Tue, May 1, 2007 at 05:58 PM EST
Okay, the Quiznos commercials are a rip-off of the "Angry Kittens singing the Vines" site that's been out for several years now...
Compare: www.rathergood.com/vines/
As far as the "Berries 'N Cream" crap... whoever greenlit the flavor itself (which is about one step away from "Berries 'N Lube") needs to be smacked in the ass.
Stephanie Travitsky Tue, May 1, 2007 at 03:53 PM EST
Does anyone remember a commerical I think for a vacuum cleaner featuring a really big white fluffy cat. The cat sneezes (with a really loud achoo) and all of its hair flies off. The camera then shows the cat buck naked. I saw that years ago I think that the company only showed it a couple of times. It was funny and it made a point that the cleaner can pick up a lot of things including cat hair.

You know who likes these commercials? Wook Kim. Wook, explain yourself.
ericalina Tue, May 1, 2007 at 03:30 PM EST
this awful commercial makes me long for the days of the big bucking chicken.
morgan Tue, May 1, 2007 at 03:21 PM EST
you think that's funny? i can't stand that effing commercial.
Peter Tue, May 1, 2007 at 03:02 PM EST
Matt, we have plenty of joy. This crap just isn't funny.
I pity you and your god awful sense of humor. Go back to watching some Mind of Mencia re-runs or a Dane Cook show, and get off the message boards
Peter Tue, May 1, 2007 at 02:46 PM EST
As somone thats makes commercials for a living, I've got to imagine the people behind these attrocities have been fired by now.
matt Tue, May 1, 2007 at 02:45 PM EST
perhaps i was watching a different commercial (or perhaps my taste is not as refined as folks who leave snarky comments on message boards)from the rest of you, but i enjoyed this very much. i also enjoyed the instructional video. far be it from me to suppose, but the rest of you strike me as a pack of joyless frumps. you have my pity.
mike Tue, May 1, 2007 at 02:19 PM EST
One of the most stupid and annoying commercials ever. And not in a good way at all.
roel Tue, May 1, 2007 at 01:55 PM EST
yes stephanie! the skittles singing bunny commercial is hilarious!
this one is just plain stupid and not funny at all. who green lights these things?
EM Tue, May 1, 2007 at 01:41 PM EST
as a both a consumer and a marketing professional, I'm stumped. The commercial with the 2 guys makes NO sense unless you've seen the first piece. The "little lad" is creepy and would make me not want to buy the product for fear that freak would jump out and do a little dance.
Starburst needs to either rein back in the creative guys or find another agency. I am shocked this got approved.
james Tue, May 1, 2007 at 01:08 PM EST
Every company now is trying to create viral videos to sell their product... this one misses by a mile... it's like a bunch of balding middle aged men got together and thought "what would the kids like to see on that there internet?"
clare-clare Tue, May 1, 2007 at 12:24 PM EST
not funny. scary and creepy? yes. i don't have children, but i feel like i should hide them.
Stephanie Tue, May 1, 2007 at 12:06 PM EST
I saw the singing bunny commercial and the only thing that was funny in a sadistic sense, was when the rabbit bit the poor shlub.
JoeyJoJo Tue, May 1, 2007 at 11:47 AM EST
I hope this actor makes a million dollars in residuals, because he's never gonna get a date ever again.
Alex Tue, May 1, 2007 at 11:33 AM EST
Hrmmm, as far as bizarre fruit snack advertising goes, I prefer Skittles commercials.

The one and only funny Starburst commercial is the one that plays off of Lionel Richie's "Hello" music video. I nearly died laughing at that one..
TsuKata Tue, May 1, 2007 at 11:10 AM EST
That commercial totally reminds me of the "Peter Pan looking for Tinkerbell" personal ad website from long ago...I need to go look that guy up.
Stephanie Travitsky Tue, May 1, 2007 at 10:55 AM EST
Ok. Berries and Cream sounds a bit perverted only because this is supposed to be an immature commercial.
This is "pie in the face" funny, and I don't really see the connection between the product and the commercial.
to the ad company: stop smoking the trees and be more creative.
Laddy Tue, May 1, 2007 at 10:28 AM EST
I think it is hilarious, I cracked up the first time I saw it!
Freckles Tue, May 1, 2007 at 10:15 AM EST
This guys creeps me out, has anyone noticed that his eyes have no color? They're so light blue they look white.
Sara Tue, May 1, 2007 at 10:13 AM EST
Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you said NEW commercials... Those have been out for what, a month now?
Ep Sato Tue, May 1, 2007 at 09:24 AM EST
WHile watching the ad, a buddy of mine and I agreed that it's a darned shame someone got paid a lot of money to think up the Berries and Cream guy. Annoying, but I've got this odd desire to eat those Orange and cream starburts...Darn you to heck berries and cream man!
Melissa Tue, May 1, 2007 at 08:43 AM EST

No Brand Woman Tue, May 1, 2007 at 08:24 AM EST
I'm just more confused by this commercial than amused or creeped out. But it does make me chuckle.
Kimberly Tue, May 1, 2007 at 08:04 AM EST
Ew. I hate these commercials. I don't understand them, and they are totally creepy.
bj Tue, May 1, 2007 at 07:48 AM EST
DUDE
I say DUDE
creeps me out holy hell 6 in the morning and that freaks me out
Janice Tue, May 1, 2007 at 07:24 AM EST
Not funny - but EXTREMELY annoying. Rates right up there with Pepsi's "brown and bubbly" campaign from last year's Superbowl.
Brennan Kirby Tue, May 1, 2007 at 07:18 AM EST
I think these commercials are stupid.
Not funny, just creepy.
