Snap Judgment: Scissor Sisters' "She's My Man" video

Apr 3, 2007, 03:18 PM | by Simon Vozick-Levinson

Categories: Music

A sparkly synth-pop melody and darkly allusive lyrics made "She's My Man" one of my (many) favorite tracks from Scissor Sisters' latest LP the instant I heard it. So I was pleased to discover that not only is it being released as a single, Universal Records has also decided to shell out for a video, which showed up online this week. It's a thoroughly silly clip, with little if any relation to the content of the song — but that doesn't make it any less fun. Placed on a minimally designed stage, the band members act out a restaurant scene that quickly devolves into a full-on battle. Things take a turn for the surreal from there; I won't ruin the viewing experience for you, but suffice it to say that one of the Sisters must be a big fan of this popular YouTube skit. What do you think, PopWatchers? Amusing or just weird? And does this clip have any shot at being forwarded as widely as the viral video that inspired it?

This video is awesome. If you can get past the cheesy way you can see the "characters" dressed in black when they move the picture around that is. It's great, it's pure Scissor Sisters and the fact that they recreated it for a live show is even more amazing!

The video is pure art! The Japanese puppetry is awesome and definately ahead of its time here in the states. The Sisters are the best! Keep up the great work the Lady Ana and handsome gentleman! We love ya!

I love the video!! And I adore the Scissor Sisters. (Ana's my favorite!) I can't understand why they aren't properly appreciated in the U.S. Oh well . . .

I love the Scissor Sisters! Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for this video. Where are the freakin' pirates!?!?!

Fantastic! Great song, great vid, I wish they'd do something for 'I can't decide' that would be great viewing!
Saw them on tour and they are awesome!

"LOVE the Scissor Sisters. This video is great, but it mostly makes me wish they'd put "Kiss You Off" out as a single, because it so should be huge. Plus, Ana Matronic is my hero." Hahahaha, you're gonna LOOOOVE the fact that they've just filmed the video for that exact song this week!!

Love the video, the Brits performance was better. The song rocks though. iPod top 25 most played, a yessir.

The Scissters are absolutely AMAZING musicians and entertainers, and this video is a perfect example of that fact. They are more than willing to take risks, both musically as well as visually, and the results are stupendous. They're a breath of fresh air in, what has become, an overwhelmingly obnoxious and monotonous music industry. Thanks Sisters, keep up the fantabulishisness!!! LOVE YOU!

To Sammie: Because they appeal to a narrow demographic which wants to like only what's unpopular.

Brandon Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 07:26 PM EST

That was pretty good. I'll get behind pretty much anything Scissor Sisters puts out, though!

NineDaves Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 05:48 PM EST

Yeah I'm pretty sure I've had that video on my iPod for at least a month, month and a half.

Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 05:37 PM EST

loves it

bburlew Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 05:20 PM EST

I love these guys, but I'm not loving the vid-especially after the last one, which was awesome...

daisyj Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 04:54 PM EST

aramis Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 04:44 PM EST

OMFG...this is the best video ever! I loved the Matrix Pong, but they totally made the concept their own. Oh, and BY THE WAY...I feel I must make note of the hotness, I meant like TOTAL HOTNESS that is Jake Shears. *sigh*...I wish he would marry me.

Sammie Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 04:14 PM EST

I don't get it. Why aren't the Scissor Sisters the biggest thing around? Love them! The video is clever and I bet it is much funnier when it is not tiny. Maybe they should start a music video TV station and put cool vids on it like this. On TV, we could even see facial expressions.

Nick Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 03:49 PM EST

America misses the ball on everything. The Scissor Sisters are the best band to come out in recent years!

tiamria Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 03:35 PM EST

This is the stupides thing I've ever seen ...

Banana Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 03:00 PM EST

I actually saw the scissor sisters vid like a month ago, before I saw the 'matrix pong' one.

Jen Tue, Apr 3, 2007 at 02:55 PM EST

I love it! It really doesn't have much at all to do with the song, but I love the song, I like the video, and I absolutely ADORE the Scissor Sisters! Fabulous!
