Own a piece of Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love's sellin'

Love_l Courtney Love plans to hold a Christie's auction (at a date to be announced) of Kurt Cobain's possessions, website Spinner.com reports. At first, Love doesn't exactly sound like the sentimental type: "[My house] is like a mausoleum. My daughter [14-year-old Frances Bean] doesn't need to inherit a giant Hefty bag full of flannel f---ing shirts ... A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to 'Teen Spirit' — that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just f---ing sell." But in the end, she proves she is: "I still wear his pajamas to bed," she said. "How am I ever going to go form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt's pajamas?"

Do you think, PopWatchers, that Christies (and Love's statement that she'll donate some of the proceeds to charity) will add class and dignity to a sale that, to skeptics, might look like another crass attempt to cash in on her husband's legacy? And will you be bidding?

Courtney, you don't have one millionth the talent Kurt had or you wouldn't be still trying to live off his name.

some of Kurt's high school drawings are coming up for auction April 8, 2008 at Heritage Auctions, but don't think it came from Courtney

I will definitely be trying to get some things from this. The woman is definitely using his legacy. She was quoted with saying that Kurt wasn't her true love, and that it was some other guy.

ryans Sun, Sep 23, 2007 at 05:51 PM EST

ill buy something if its cheap enough. im a broke-ass, but if i had an old pair of kurts socks i would put them on the wall!!

Mandy Mon, May 14, 2007 at 12:43 PM EST

I would never wish her anything bad, but she needs to stay out of the limelight. Everyone knows she was a run-around sue. She made the man's life a living nightmare. She always looked like she needed a bath. At least now she looks like she bathes on a regular basis. The selling of Kurt's personal belongings should matter to his daughter. No one knows what is going on behind closed doors, so we do not know if the young lady is in agreement or not. I don't know what Kurt ever saw in her, but it must have been something-something that no doubt he lived to regret.

mary Mon, May 14, 2007 at 12:28 PM EST

for those of you who still think kurt committed suicide.....you're wrong. if you want to learn more read 'who killed kurt cobain?' and 'love and death'. Or check out Tom Grants web page.

Courtney love is a dirty whore everyone knows she killed him. And now shes gunna live off of his money so she can support her herion or whatever drug shes doing addiction.
Shes a waste of life.
And whats with all you people saying cut her some slack or leave her alone.
Are you out of your minds?!
Shes such and evil person she made Kurts life a living hell and then got her way with him in the end.She wanted him dead and she got that wish.
If you guys knew anything about him or his death you wouldnt be supporting Courtney at all. I suggest you guys go look up some stuff around Kurts death and then maybe you guys will understand the pure HATRED i have for this disgusting human being we call Courtney Love.
That is all.

I think Courtney Love is disgusting. She's famous for having married & killed a musical icon. Kurt died but he will always have loyal fans. He was a genuine artist (not like his fake wife). Now she's selling his things & she thinks no one can see through her actions. I just wish Kurt had the time to sign the new will he had drawn up.

My bottom line is that Frances should get everything. Then SHE can determine what happens to it - not Whoretney.

LKB Tue, May 1, 2007 at 01:07 PM EST

If she's all about giving money to charity, then DONATE the items to charity themselves, and I'm sure that would up the amount that the items fetch at auction. She has been claiming that she's broke forever and has been sued for the cost of her rehab for gods sake. Quit trying to act like she's just hung onto the memory of her husband for soooo long. She got arrested for breaking into an ex-boyfriend/fiancee's home and thats when all of her legal problems started. She likes to play the victim, its what grabs her the most press. So sorry for all the saps who are buying into it. Sorry, but actions speak louder than words.

Leapin' Larry Tue, May 1, 2007 at 12:55 PM EST

What has Love done recently other than make money off Kurt and go to rehab/court/jail? Her 15 minutes is up. She's just gross.

Lynny Tue, May 1, 2007 at 12:02 PM EST

ditto on that, Me. She had a moment around "Larry Flynt" time that her face was great, but it may be too far gone now. Well, at least she seems to be back to Earth- at least for awhile.

Me Tue, May 1, 2007 at 11:11 AM EST

She has every right to sell this stuff. He's been gone a long time.
I wish she hadn't messed around with her face.....

Stephanie Tue, May 1, 2007 at 10:48 AM EST

Cobain and Love have always been strange, and Courtney has been through rehab so many times that there are revolving doors at these centers with her name in bronze. She has other relationships but I don't think that it is possible to forget your real love and my guess is that what Cobain was to her. Does anyone remember her reading his suicide note at his public memorial?

BTW: Courts is not the only person who recently sold stuff. Julian Lennon was in the papers because he sold his rights to some of his father John's music.

Ames Tue, May 1, 2007 at 10:42 AM EST

Watching members of my family turn on my aunt after my uncle committed suicide was hard. Courtney Love had millions turn on her, and its sad. What would people prefer, that she just throw the stuff out? She knows fans want his things. Just let it go.

GT Tue, May 1, 2007 at 10:19 AM EST

The selling of the possessions doesn't bother me that much. It is actually kind of normal. When she sold the rights to his private diaries that was all kinds of wrong.

And to the poster who was surprised that his daughter was only getting a few things, maybe that is all she wants. She is in her teens and probably old enough to make up her mind on things.

Lynny Tue, May 1, 2007 at 08:57 AM EST

Sorry- one more thing to Mr. Mexico- it "doesn't wash" with you. To be honest, what business is it of yours? If she wanted to keep all the money she would be within her rights. I am sure some of it will go to charity and how much is her decision. Sounds like she is "cleaning out" her life. Cut her some slack.

Tina V Tue, May 1, 2007 at 08:57 AM EST

The obvious answer to your question Ron is no! My prior post was not to "villify" you. I just think that wishing someone death is in poor taste.

Ron Mexico Tue, May 1, 2007 at 08:53 AM EST

For those of you that vilify me, let me ask you this. Would you let her babysit your child? Probably not. Why? Because she is self-serving, immature, and morally bankrupt - all evidenced by her lifestyle of drugs and promiscuity.

So we all judge to some extent. That's what keep us from plunging into anarchy. Sorry I had the stones to say it about Courtney here. At least I was honest - or bitter, I guess.

Joe C Tue, May 1, 2007 at 08:04 AM EST

Of course she's cashing in on Kurt's legacy. So what? That's the American way, my friends. Just ask Yoko Ono or those people who keep releasing Tupac Shakur CDS. Next up: 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is licensed to sell tacos...

Gregory Brady Tue, May 1, 2007 at 08:00 AM EST

Look who's back in the headlines for something related to her dead husband! Moving on is fine, but making a big deal selling his belongings publicly is about, again, using Kurt's legacy to bolster her failure of a life. I agree with Ron Mexico. Too bad it had to be Kurt who checked out early. Imagine being raised by single-parent, strung-out Courtney Love. Poor kid.

Tina V Tue, May 1, 2007 at 07:53 AM EST

Ron Mexico: This type of venomous talk from you should be expected. You don't have the say on who lives and who dies.
At least she looks halfway decent in this picture. She usually looks like a heroin addict.
She should at least keep a few things for her child.

To Ron Mexico Tue, May 1, 2007 at 12:29 AM EST

Wow, you seem quite bitter about someone you have likely never met. Saying a human being who has done nothing to you shouldn't even be alive is way too harsh. Get some therapy to find out why you are so angry at a total stranger. sad, you are. :) And, by the way, I am not a big Courtney Love fan. However, I know I have not led her life so I have no need to judge her actions.

Ron Mexico Mon, Apr 30, 2007 at 09:58 PM EST

And, for the record, she was forming other relationships during and after Kurt. So I'm not much buying the whole "she needs to move on" angle. She's been doing THAT for 13 years.

Ron Mexico Mon, Apr 30, 2007 at 09:55 PM EST

Typically, I'm usually tough on Courtney. This time will be no exception.

First of all, I'd like to know how much is getting donated to charity? "Some" doesn't wash with me - it could mean any insignificant amount. With Courtney's history, you really have to question her motives. Sorry, but it's a fact.

I think the thing that disturbs me the most is that Frances will only get a sweater, a guitar, and the lyrics to "Smells Like Teen Spirit". She is the only child of the voice of a generation, and that's all she gets?

The wrong parent committed suicide, Frances. I am so sorry.

Stephanie Mon, Apr 30, 2007 at 06:50 PM EST

I remember the day after his passing. My college cafeteria was so completly silent. Even the ferel cats who roamed my campus would not even meow.

Cobain made the choice to end his life abruptly and I am sure that even today his untimely passing haunts her. However, she must move on and perhaps donating the proceeds to charity will give her some solace.

Anna Mon, Apr 30, 2007 at 05:22 PM EST

I think this will really help Courtney! She is a good girl inside... http://maplejuice.com/2007/04/30/courtney-love-to-auction-off-kurt-cobains-last-things.aspx

Lynny Mon, Apr 30, 2007 at 05:02 PM EST

Anyone else would have gotten rid of their deceased spouse's things long ago. It is hard to have a lot of those things around. When someone close to you dies, you don't keep everything they ever touched, just a few important things, like Courtney said about the things she is keeping for their daughter. I think she is doing what is natural and probably overdue. I am sure she will donate much of the proceeds, as she should. Give the woman a break and let her do what she needs to do.

Swerds Mon, Apr 30, 2007 at 04:30 PM EST

I think it's time to give her a break. She's been in mourning in one form or another for 13 years. If selling this stuff means that she can move on again and be complete again so be it.
